ICloud restore from iOS 6 to iOS7 problem

Hi guys,
I have a problem, which I'm probably sure no one of you have encountered before. (But I still have hope).
Last Saturday ( Nov 2nd ), my iPhone 5 16GB (Version 6.1.4) got stolen.
My luck was that I paid for additional storage on iCloud (25GB instead of just 5), so I can back up all my photos (more than 1300) with no worries.
On Monday, I've purchased the iPhone 5S with 32GB, running iOS 7.0.3.
After restoring my iCloud backup of the iPhone 5 (with 5.8GB of data, watch pictures below), to my new iPhone, I've waited for my photos to restore. but they didn't.
All my contacts, messages, notes, apps, settings, everything got restored, except my precious photos and videos.
What I got, is about 40 photos, which the oldest one is from Oct 6th.
I remember that from these 5.8GB of storage, about 2GB or so, belong to my photos.
What I have now, is a about 40 images, with a 5.8 of backup on my iCloud, that basically restored 3.8GB of data.
As you can see on the photos below, the iPhone 5S, has almost the same amount of GB (5.6) when it performed the restore, so I know these photos are out there somewhere.
Can anyone, please, help me out??
Thanks a lot!
David Dudi Jana,
Just to clarify -
Dudi 5 - iPhone 5
Dudi 5S - iPhone 5S
Dudi - iPhone 4S.

Welcome to the Apple Community.
When you restore certain data is put back onto the device and it then restarts allowing you to use it while it downloads everything else in the background. Are you sure you have given the restore enough time.

  • Restore from ios 7.1.2 to ios 7 - new phone old ios?

I am trying to Restore from back up to a brand new iPhone 5c - my iPhone 4 was on ios 7.1.2 and as my new iPhone 5c has ios 7 I am unable to restore from back up (current phone) - How annoying!! Any suggestions please?

You'll have to update the 5C to 7.1.2 (Update your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch) as restoring a backup made on a more recent version of iOS is not supported.  After updating, you can restore the backup as explained here: iCloud: Restore your iOS device from iCloud.

  • Can I search email archive on iCloud server from iOS device, or can I only search what it has downloaded locally?

Can I search email archive on iCloud server from iOS device, or can I only search what it has downloaded locally?
I currently have an iPhone and iPad, and am soon changing over to a Mac. When that happen I'd like to try to see what I can migrate over from the Google ecosystem to the iCloud ecosystem.
    1) Currently I have the Gmail iOS app (a webapp container) that can search server-side of several years of email archive.  Can iCloud do this using the iOS native mail application?  Or is the search just limited to what the device has downloaded locally?
    2) Do I have to use a @me.com address for the full iCloud email sync to take place between server, Mac, and iOS devices?
Believe it or not I've read quite a bit about the iCloud services, but the answers to these questions were far from clear.  Many thanks for the help.

    2)  iCloud only syncs email between .me/.mac addresses.  For other accounts like google, you set up the account in the mail app and if they're IMAP accounts, you can sync between the google server and any devices you have defined that account on.
I'm not absolutely sure about 1) since I haven't had to search going back years - I use MailSteward for that on the mac.  On my iPhone/iPad, when I go into a mailbox and the emails are not immediately available, it downloads them.  I suspect for a search, you need the emails downloaded.

  • "iCloud Restore from Backup" gives error "Incorrect Apple ID or Password"

I have an iPhone 5 (iOS 6.1.2) that was just replaced at the Genius Bar today due to some intermittent camera and home button issues.
Everything was normal when starting up the newly exchanged phone that they gave me. It gets through the activation step in the startup process and when I get to the screen to select "Restore from iCloud Backup" and enter my Apple ID and password it instantly spits out an alert that says:
    Incorrect Apple ID or Password
    Try another Apple ID
    (  OK  )
I have entered, what I know to be, the correct username and password now 10+ times and it gives me the same message.  I know it's correct because I am able to login to icloud.com, appleid.apple.com, the app store on my iPad normally with the same login credentials and everything works.  But something about the startup screen is not accepting my username and password.  They fishy thing about it is that it doesnt seem to check for the server, it just seems to tell me its incorrect before even taking the time to check whether it's incorrect or not.
Naturally, the next thing I did was a DFU restore of the phone to make sure it wasnt a software issue and that it had the lastest software update.  All the same results.  If I go down the path of "Set up as new iPhone" it activates normally and then I can even log into iCloud normally from inside the OS once I've gotten there.  That, however, does not help me get my backup text messages, photos, apps, app data, etc.
Anyone else having this issue? I never usually have issues with my iPhone/iPad and this one is especially infuriating.
Any help/information would be much appreciated.

    Freddie,
I associated my Apple ID in their system as an Apple Reseller account because I was working for a third-party Apple Authorized Dealer a few months ago.  After that point, this is when I noticed this happened.
Tier 2 of AppleCare told me they believe this is the reason I've been having problems being able to restore because Apple Reseller accounts are not "iCloud Eligible"
I replied and told them it was ok for them to remove my account as reseller status and after multiple attempts to reach the advisor assigned to my case, he stopped responding.
I fear I may be out of luck.  Are you by any chance an Apple reseller or associated with an Apple reseller?

  • Various errors, incorrect version of track (from iCloud restore) from an iTunes album

Sorry for being a bit vague describing the problems but they are too complicated to summarize in 1 sentence.
I bought a number of albums from iTunes last December, including LeAnn Rimes "I Need You".  I have a car that allows me to play iTunes music copied onto its HD from a USB drive.  I copied the iTunes music from my MacBook Pro onto the USB drive and then transferred the music to the HD in my car.
I subsequently discovered that some of the music was skipping when played in my car and the dealer thought the HD in the stereo only supports MP3.  It was strange because track 4 in "I Need You" sounded very odd, like it was not the original track from the album but a re-mixed version.  I thought it was corrupted due to the MP4 format not being supported.  At any rate I decided to convert the iTunes tracks to MP3 on my MacBook Pro using iTunes 11.0.4
I selected all the iTunes albums and instructed iTunes to make MP3 copies.
When iTunes got to the 4th track in "I Need You", it reported an error trying to copy the track and stopped.  When I tried to manually copy the track, iTunes said my computer was not authorized to play the track and asked me to log in.  When I logged in, iTunes said the computer was already authorized and that I had 1 computer authorized and could authorize 5.  When I tried to play the track, I got the same iTunes error about not being authorized again.
When I did a "Get info" on the track I noticed it was purchased on the same occasion as all the other tracks in that album but unlike the other tracks it was missing the name of the person who bought it - me.
I deleted the track and enabled iCloud to download another copy.  That worked but the track that was downloaded sounds very strange, not like the original track of the album but like a re-mixed version. like the one that played in my car.  Track #4 "You Are" from the "I Need You" LeAnn Rimes album is from 2001, an old album.  But the re-downloaded version sounds like a recent re-mix.  I know this because I have 2 iPads which also contain copies of this iTunes album.
The newer iPad Mini syncs with my Mac frequently and has weird problems with this same album (phantom duplicate tracks that don't play anything) and when I try to play track 4 it plays track 5 instead.  On the other hand my iPad 2 is still running iOS 5 and it plays the original track #4 correctly and has no strange issues with anything.  The iPad 2 does not get synced very often because it stays at home whereas the iPad Mini travels with me.
I suspect my iTunes library got corrupted by iCloud.  The version of track 4 for "I Need You" is not the track I bought.  There was a recent occasion when I noticed iCloud was enabled on my MacBook Pro out of the blue without my permission and all my music were showing duplicates.  I turned off iCloud and thought it was some sort of fluke occurrence.  But now, I think it may have a connection to my problem today.  iCloud may have downloaded a new version of the track to my iTunes library on my MacBook.
What is going on with this iTunes album???  How can I restore my libraries with the correct album tracks?  Can someone in iTunes please contact me - I can play both copies of the track and you can judge for yourself.  This is really bizarre.
    Thanks.

    j. michael wrote:
I agree the track was somehow corrupted but it was likely not during the original download as it played just fine for over 4 months.  Another USB drive copy of the same track also plays fine on my other vehicle's stereo.  My concern is primarily regarding how it got "munged" on my MacBook.  Maybe it's getting old.  I notice my battery is on its last legs.
Fair enough, although the age of the file really has nothing to do with it. Digital files do not degrage over time like, say, a printed piece of paper.
I suppose what could have happened is the track could have become damaged by copying it around on storage media that might have damaged blocks. But that is just speculation on my part. I don't know how accurate it might be. At any rate a simple re-download from your purchase history, or restoration from your backups should solve the problem.

this device is not registered as part of iphone deveopler program
not it wont activate i never had this problem before when i orignally upgraded what can i do as everything is on icloud as ios 6.0

Pls. use the confidential iOS 6 beta forums, thanks.
However, as you are running a beta in violation of the required agreements I doubt you have sufficient credentials to access the proper resources....I also doubt it matters to you, which explains why you're here - just know that Apple takes a dim view of your situation, and using their forums to avoid their controls is just stupid.

  • I cloud restore from ios 7 to ios 8

I have an Icloud backup from ios7 iphone4 and trying to restore it to my new ios8 iphone5 using only icloud (can not use iTunes), it does not allow me to use this backup, only shows me other apple devises backups which i do not want. Help?

You cannot restore a backup made with a newer version to a device with an older version, however, the other way around works. If it says no backups available that usually means that either the Apple ID is wrong or the previous phone had not been backed up to iCloud. Note that you can back up to a computer or to iCloud automatically, but not both. The two backups are not the same. You can back up to one automatically and the other manually, however.

  • Bought iPhone 5S refurb from service provider 'as new'. After restore multiple Apple ID's are offered,1 of which belongs to me, the others have never been used on my phone. iCloud restore from backup is now permanently incomplete. Ideas?

There are several factors involved here, I shall explain them as best I can and will include all details, regardless of immediate relevancy:
In August of last year I purchased a new MBP15", and 2 months later I purchased an iPhone 5s refurb (unused) from my service provider (02), there were no issues connecting the two or with iCloud. Fast-forward several months to February I had a liquid spill on my laptop that rendered it unusable. After a month my insurance came through and I received a new laptop, and in order to successfully pair my replaced MBP with my 5S I performed a restore on my iPhone after backing up my data on iCloud.
When I turned on my iPhone after the restore, I was presented with the usual set-up process: wi-fi connection was completed without issue, as was enabling location services, entering my Apple ID and choosing my selected back-up.However, I was subsequently presented with an option to transfer purchases from an email address have never used and didn't recognise, so I declined. Immediately afterwards, a second Apple ID (again that I neither used nor recognised) popped up for the same reason, I declined, a third unknown Apple ID popped up, I declined again. After declining the three previous IDs, the old email address for my ID was presented to me, I entered my password to see what happened and it declined, saying 'the email is no longer valid.
After this, the restore continued, I finished setting up my iCloud with my correct ID. Since then (about a week ago) my iPhone has been unsuccessfully trying to 'restore from iCloud Backup', and every time I exit & re-enter a Wi-Fi zone I am presented with the same series of incorrect Apple ID's

The answer is very simple: You were not the original owner of the phone. Target sold you a phone that had been returned. You can verify the date of the original sale here: Apple - Support - Check Your Service and Support Coverage. I suspect you will find that the warranty expiration date is not one year from the date that you bought it.

  • Install new hard drive, restore from Time Machine, File Vault Problems

    Hello all,
I spent way too much time on this seemingly simple task, so I thought I would share my experience with others so they can avoid some pitfalls when upgrading a hard drive in a system that uses File Vault 2 encryption. The basic goal here is to replace a drive in a system that has only one drive, and the OS is Mavericks, and then have the new drive encrypted as before.
The problem is that a Time Machine restore onto a new drive will leave that without a Recovery Partition, which is required for File Vault 2 and some other important things. So we need to build a recovery partition. There are possibly several ways to do this.
Here's what worked for me (this is compiled from many sources that I found and already closed the tabs in my browser so I can't list all my sources):
    1) Make a full backup to an external hard drive using Time Machine.
    2) Go into the App Store and download OS X Mavericks but dont install it (close the window when it pops up asking to continue the install). Do this even if you already have Mavericks. At this point, there will be a folder in your Applications folder called Install OS X Mavericks (or similar).
    3) Insert a USB drive that is at least 8 GB and format it using Disk Utility, naming it the default "Untitled".
    4) Open a terminal and type
    sudo /Applications/Install\ OS\ X\ Mavericks.app/Contents/Resources/createinstallmedia --volume /Volumes/Untitled --applicationpath /Applications/Install\ OS\ X\ Mavericks.app --nointeraction
    5) Wait for this to finish (took me about 30 min). Eject the USB drive and power down.
    6) Remove the old hard drive and set it aside. Keep it for a few weeks until you know the new drive is working as expected.
    7) Install the new hard drive and insert the USB drive. Hold the option key and press the power button. Choose to boot from the USB installer.
    8) Use the disk utility to erase whatever partition shipped with the new drive, replacing it with a Mac OS Extended (Journaled) system. Verify that GUID is the partition type (in Advanced options).
    9) Close the disk utility and install Mavericks. This can take a long time. My new drive is an SSD, and it sat at the "1 second remaining" part for about 20 min. Let it reboot (maybe it was 2 times?) and go through the setup until it finishes the install.
    10) Boot into the freshly installed OS and open a terminal and type:
    diskutil list
    11) If there is a partition listed as Apple_Boot Recovery HD (mine was 650 MB), then you now have a recovery partition. If not, then go into the App store and download Mavericks, but don't use the USB this time, choose to do a regular install (or reinstall to be more correct).
    12) Now there will be a recovery partition on the new drive and Time Machine will not overwrite it when restoring. Power down the system.
    13) Plug in the Time Machine backup drive used in step 1. Press the option key and power on. Choose to boot from the recovery partiton (Mavericks).
    14) Choose to restore from Time Machine backup. Wait until it finishes and log into the old familiar account.
    15) Start a terminal and verify the recovery partition is still there (type diskutil list and see that the Apple_Boot Recovery HD is there). If it's missing, choose to download Mavericks from the App Store again and run the installation from this one.
    16) Once there is a Mavericks recovery partition on the restored data you can simply turn on File Vault from the System Preferences Security section. It will require a reboot and then you login and wait for it to finish.
What a major pain to go through all of this for the sake of upgrading a hard drive. This should not be anywhere near as complicated. I hope this helps others avoid the very time consuming trial and error I went through in developing this procedure.

Talked with Apple last night. Everything we did to restore lost images failed to fix the issue. I did have the images still on my camera's SD card so I was not breaking out in a cold sweat.
All Time Machine backups showed the same issue. HOWEVER, I suddenly remembered I also had a SuperDuper backup and voila. The images were there.
Moral of the story: you can't ever be too rich or have too many backups (I also have an offsite backup).

  • Failed restore from TM, disk now reporting problems.

    Hello,
I have, unfortunately, landed in a bad position... My Macbook was last backed up last May with Time Machine. A few days ago, the internal hard drive in the Macbook went bad and was replaced with a new one by Apple. They installed 10.5.5 on the machine, so the welcome video starts up when I turn it on. At the genius bar, they told me to use the time machine backup option after the welcome video to restore my files. However, when I select that option, the window does not show the external hard drive I use to store the time machine backup.
Since no drive or backup was listed in that window, I assumed that this problem was caused by an incompatibility between 10.5.5 (which Apple installed on the new hard drive) and the older version of the system stored in my TM backups from last May (maybe 10.5.3?). Plus, I can see all the TM backups when I plug the drive into my other computers.
I booted the Macbook off the OS 10.5 DVD, and I selected the Restore from TM Backup option. This quickly pulled up the backup info from the external hard drive, and it began the restore process. Toward the end of the restore, the process failed, and it suggested I restart and try again. I restarted (booting off DVD again) and tried to restore again. This time, it told me that it can't access the files and the disk may have problems. I plugged the disk into another computer and ran "verify" in disk utility. It said "invalid index key," the volume needs to be repaired- Error: Filesystem verify or repair failed."
Here's my problem- I'm not sure that I want to mess with repairing the drive, as I don't want to potentially screw up the TM backup file structure. I don't have another copy of the info in these TM backups, since the original internal hard drive crashed and this is my restore option. Should I use a program like Superduper to make a copy before attempting a repair on the external drive? Is it likely a repair on the drive will screw up the TM backup data? I'm not really sure how to proceed safely.
    Any help is greatly appreciated!
    Thanks for your time.
    ~ Dan

    Hi, Glenn,
Thanks for the suggestions. As an update, I did two clones of the drive using SuperDuper onto two other external drives. Both of those clones were successful, but none of the time machine backup data pulls up through the Leopard DVD, Time Machine itself, or through Migration Assistant. Disk utility finds errors in the data on both of the clones, but fixing the errors doesn't help the situation in any way.
In efforts to clean up the disk errors or pull the data off the drives manually, I have used Disk Warrior, Data Rescue II, File Salvage, and Disk Utility. Unfortunately, none of these apps have worked as a fix. I can't even seem to salvage the individual files to transfer them manually, leading me to believe that Time Machine is a deck of cards when part of the files become corrupted... What is frustrating is that I was able to see all of the backup files when I began the first restore process. Now I can't see them at all. I've never had a problem with the external disk drive, and all the utility programs seem to indicate that the problems are with the files versus the drive.
Any other ideas on how to get these files extracted? Given the 60GB or so of data recorded on the disk, I know the info is sitting there somewhere... I just can't get to it.
    Thanks for the help!

  • Restoring from iOS 6 to iOS 7 - Not All Info Restores

I had to get a new phone. I backed up my iPhone 5 earlier in the morning and was still on one of the iOS 6 version. The new phone has iOS 7. When I restore it, it won't allow me to set up my email, my text messages will not transfer over and it will not let me set up Find My iPhone.  I reset the phone and set up as a new phone and it allows me to set up my email accounts. Can you restore from an old iOS 6? My iTunes was also on an old version which the tech at the Apple store told me I had to update before I can restore to the new phone.

The iOS version installed will be the most current version that your device qualifies for. iPad 2 qualifies for iOS 8.1.2 so that's what will be installed...there's no getting around that and there's no intermediate iOS option either.
You may just want to keep the device at it's current iOS version...unless you need newer apps that require iOS 7 or 8. In that case, you have no choice but to update to iOS 8.1.2.

  • ICloud Restore on iOS 5

I HAVE A QUESTION!!! If I restore my phone on iOS 5, does that mean that all my apps, music, and settings will be restored from the cloud? If so then what about apps and music that were purchased with different itunes accounts? Someone please help if they know the answer. I just want to know if I can completely restore my device with all content that I purchased with multiple accounts. Thank you in advance!!!!!

IOS 5 has not been released yet.
It will likely be more clear when it is actually released.

If 3 unlocked your device and confirmed it, then it should be unlocked.
Did you restore the device with the new SIM? If no, do it and it should be unlocked.
If its still locked, call AppleCare and they can tell you, if they can see in the system the unlock request from your carrier (AppleCare should be avaulable in Turkey now, or trough Skype the UK AppleCare).
If they dont see it there, then 3 did not unlock the device and you need to contact them.

  • Problems opening files in pages and keynote from iCloud. Other IOS-devices show no problem

I have problems in getting files opened on computer from Icloud. For both Pages and Keynote. Happens when they have been opened on Iphone og Ipad

I had this problem this morning also - couldn't open a Numbers file on my mac.  It hasn't been used on ipad or iphone but was shared with another mac user who accessed yesterday.  Now I also can't save a text edit file.  It is sitting on my screen but when I go to save it I get a message saying "the file untitled.rtf couldn't be opened".  My other numbers files (not shared) in icloud also get the same message when I try to open them.  I think this is an icloud server problem.  Hopefully they will fix it quickly.  I can open the files by going to icloud.com and using the webapps.

  • How to create new folders on iCloud Drive from iOS or with document picker?

Recently I wanted to share several files from my iWorks suite with my colleagues. I do not want them to edit these files, instead I made templates in Numbers for easier management of hours worked. Everyone could download their copy and keep a track of their hours themselves. The problem is, not everyone has an Apple product.
Unfortunately, iOS does not support native browsing of iCloud Drive (except the document picker, which, to me, isn't helpful at all), the only way I know of - to create a new folder - is to open iCloud.com in Safari, request the desktop site and make a new folder from there.
Is there another way of creating new folders, preferably an official app from Apple or from within an iWorks app or the document picker that I do not know of? Or is this actually a missing feature?
Also, if Apple could make an app similar to Microsoft OneDrive, that would be great.

Yes, there is a way. Here is the workaround. You can add notes folders directly with your iPad or iPhone.
