ICloud restore on iphone5 takes forever!! (1-2 weeks!!)

Hi guys.
I have had the 3, 3GS, 4, 4S and not the 5.
Since I bought the 5 last october, I've only got nothing but trouble, especially with the Wi-Fi.
I don't know what to do no more.
I reset my iphone last week, and so far it has come to restore 800 out of 4000 pics through iCould.
This is not the first time this happens. Last time it took 2 weeks, but it didnt even restore 800 last pics! So I had to do it again.
What is going on with my phone? What can I do? I'm starting to hate it.

well for what it's worth, I've been having tons of trouble the last few days downloading apps on my iPhone 5.   my iPad is fine.   There is a thread in here that hasn't offered up any suggestions and it doesn't seem to be a big problem for anyone else.

Reason I mention it is because it sounds suspiciously similar to my slow app updating issue.
But I would still consider taking out the 4000 pics when you get this all sorted out.

Had same problem on my iPad2 with the original 8.0 release.  I ended up wiping it completely clean and doing a reset and restore from backup.  That seemed to fix my issues.  I had the same problem when 7 came out and did the same wipe and restore to get everything working well.

  • Is there an easy way to download my music from the iCloud to iTunes library on my new PC desktop so I can sync my iPod?  I have iMatch and cannot figure out how to do it in one fell swoop rather than by downloading each song, which will take forever!

    Hi,
I have taken over my son's old PC desktop tower as it has more memory than my old PC.  I installed iTunes on it and have accessed via my iMatch account my music library that's in the iCloud.  I need to download it to the iTuned library on the desktop so I can sync my iPod.  I can only see how to do it song-by-song, which will take forever for my almost 5000 songs.  Is there a way to dowload the entire library in one fell swoop, letting it download without me having to do each song individually or monitor it?
    Thanks,
    RSG

Select all songs ctrl A, right click - Download.

  • Hello guys! How do I get my photo back after I restored my iphone5??? Ihave never did any backup or logged in iCloud before. Is it possible for me to get them back??

Hello guys! How do I get my photo back after I restored my iphone5??? Ihave never did any backup or logged in iCloud before. Is it possible for me to get them back?? I use " find my iphone" and accidentally locked my iphone then I have to restore it to unlock it. But then I found out everything is gone after I restore my phone, is there anyway I could get them back??

If you never backed them up, where do you suppose you can restore them from?

  • Why does my ICloud take forever to backup all my pictures and apps? Its been two days already

Find faster network, if paying for one is out of the question.

  • When I try to use my iCloud backup it takes forever to backup and then sometimes it says unable to backup

When I try to use my iCloud backup it takes forever to backup and then sometimes it says unable to backup what do I do

If you get the error "Backup not successful" and you've tried deleting the last backup and trying to back up manually without luck, try the following test:   Go to...
Settings>iCloud>Storage & Backup>manage Storage, tap your device name in the Backups section, then look under Backup options.  Turn off all apps from backup and then do a manual backup.  If that doesn't work, then this post will not help.  If the backup works, then go back to the app list and turn some on and try another backup.  If successful, keep repeating these steps.  If it fails at some point, then try to zero in on the one app that seems to make the backup fail.  (I had this problem and found one app failing, probably due to a corrupt data file.)
This process will take time, but if a backup works with no app data being used but clearly fails with the original settings, then somewhere in the mix of apps is a "bad" one.

  • HT1766 how long should an icloud restore take to an iphone?

How long should an icloud restore take to an iphone?

Nobody here would know. Depends on how big the backup file is.

  • When I turn off iCloud, so that I restore my iPhone5, I get a message " Verification Failed - Request Timed Out"

Either use different icloud IDs (accounts) on each device, or on the iPad, turn off iMessage (Settings>Messages).  Or use a different Send & Receive address (same settings page).

  • If someone finds an iphone and its being tracked...then if such person restores it and takes the previous icloud account off, can the phone still be tracked?

In what regard? Restrictions would not impede in iCloud. All they do are allow certain changes (like age-appropriate content on App Store to be changed), and to prevent some apps from being shown on the device if they aren't going to be used, for example, I have restrictions active on my iPhone with the Youtube App turned off so it doesn't show on my home screen, and youtube links don't open into it (i find the application clunky and prefer the website).
If the device is restored; Anything put in place by restrictions and the prior user are renderred null as the settings get completely erased.

  • Restoring new DB to SMB3 Scale Out Server Disk takes forever to initialize

We have a SQL Server 2014 DB installed on a VM running 2012 R2 Standard with Datacenter 2012 R2 as the host. We have a Scale Out File Server (SOFS) running 2012 R2 on two nodes clustered (CSV).  The entire network is 10GB.  SQL server is configured
to use the SOFS cluster for it's databases files (using SMB3 as a network share).  When restoring a backup to the server as a new database restore, the process takes about an hour (it's a big DB 210GB).  When restoring the backup over the top
of the existing database (nearly similar file/DB sizes), the restore takes 10 minutes.  I have read about "Instant File Initialization" but that appears to only apply to directly attached disks where the OS can block allocate the data using
some "Volume Maintenance" permissions.   The network traffic during the "initialization phase" seems to be floating about 700mbs, yet when the actual restore counter starts (reading the backup file and writing the data) the network
activity steps up to 6.5Gbs - sometimes higher - the count down appears to take 10 minutes either way.  So I'm quite sure that the 50 minutes is attributable to the initialization phase.   Which seems horribly excessive.
Has anyone had similar experience using this kind of configuration?

For these databases, we use the simple recovery model.  So the log file is not very large (5GB compared to the 200GB of the data file).
It appears that it is spending it's time zeroing the MDF file:

So it looks like the "Instant File Initialization" settings do not apply to shared disk resources?

  • Videos and pictures received on WhatsApp take forever to download on Iphone5s

Videos and pictures received on WhatsApp take forever to download on Iphone5s

This happens to me once in a while when I download video's to my Dell. Sometimes a TV show downloads in a minute or two. Sometimes it can take as much as forty minutes. For me it mostly tends to do this when I install a new version of iTunes (it happened when I installed the latest version of iTunes). However, it never took 2.5 hours.
Does it always happen whenever you download a video or just that one time??? It might have been just a one time thing.

  • Is it normal for iCloud restore to take three day to download

my iPhone 5 just came back for repair from apple and i did iCloud restore and its been three days know and its still not finished is this normal

It theory, the wifi connection doesn't need to be constant.  If the wifi connection is interrupted, the restore is supposed to be suspended for up to three days and resume when your wifi connection is restored.  In practice, however, it sometimes doesn't resume and can stall out.  It's best to leave it connected to wifi and your charger and just let it finish restoring the backup.  Unless this has changed, you should be able to go to Settings>iCloud and tap Stop Restoring, then erase the phone and start the restore process over as explained here: iCloud: Restore or set up your iOS device from iCloud.

  • Ipod takes forever to turn on

Well what i mean is it takes forever to get to the locksceen? Like I press the power button (not shutting it off) but sometimes when i press it again it wont come on, I know the power button isnt broken, its just really confusing then randomly comes to the lockscreen in a few mintues, sometimes it works fine, just really bugs me

    Try:
    - Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost
Reset iOS device: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Reset all settings
Go to Settings > General > Reset and tap Reset All Settings.
All your preferences and settings are reset. Information (such as contacts and calendars) and media (such as songs and videos) aren’t affected.
    - Restore from backup. See:
iOS: Back up and restore your iOS device with iCloud or iTunes
    - Restore to factory settings/new iOS device.
If still problem, make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store since it appears you have a hardware problem.
