ICloud, Safari, and Mail on MacBook Pro and iPhone 4

My MacBook Pro has OSX 10.7.5, iPhone is 4g, and Apple Mail is Ver 5.3.
Currently, Apple Mail on the MacBook Pro is setup on the iCloud and I have many folders in the Cloud to store email.    The iPhone depicts all mail similarly as the MacBook Pro.  In addition, on Safari, I have a bookmark to iCloud.com.  Have used iCloud.com to send email, edit contacts, and calendar.  Seems to work well.
Was wondering if one can discontinue using the Apple Mail client on the MacBook Pro and delete all the emails and folders without adversely impacting the mail and folders on iCloud.com?
I suppose the same question applies to the calendar and contact applications on the MacBook Pro and iPhone.  If so, it appears one can use all three of the applications at iCloud.com without having to use them separately on the MacBook Pro.  Please advise.
Thanks.

  • I have a music library on an iMac and I got a new iPhone and a new MacBook Pro and I want some of the songs from the iMac library to be on my phone and my MacBook Pro and I have a new Apple ID on my phone and my Mac book pro

I have a music library on an iMac and I got a new iPhone and a new MacBook Pro and I want some of the songs from the iMac library to be on my phone and my MacBook Pro and I have a new Apple ID on my phone and my Mac book pro, is this possible if so how do I do it?

Providing specifics on all the ways to do this will take more time than I am willing to spend here these days.  You can do some of this with Home Sharing.  You can transfer the entire library from one computer to another, If you do that you can delete what you don't want from the transferred library.
Quick answer if you use iTunes' default preferences settings: Copy the entire iTunes folder (and in doing so all its subfolders and files) intact to the other drive. Open iTunes and immediately hold down the option (alt) key (shift on Windows) so you get a prompt to select a library, then guide it to the 'iTunes Library.itl' file in the moved iTunes folder. If you put the copied iTunes folder in the default location of Macintosh HD > Users > *User Name* > Music then you don't even need to start with the option key held down, iTunes will automatically look for it there. (Make sure there isn't anything already in the iTunes folder there that you want to keep since you will be replacing it with the one you are moving.)
You do not want to use a new AppleID.  Change the  AppleID on the new phone to the old ID.  Purchases made with one AppleID cannot be transferred to a different one and it will be a royal pain to manage two Apple IDs.
Change iTunes Store account on an iOS device - Log out of your current account with Settings.app > Store (Settings > iTunes & App Stores on iOS 6) > tap on your AppleID. Log in with a different account. Note, turning on automatic downloads or re-download past purchases may tie the device to that account for 90 days - http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4627 https://discussions.apple.com/message/18484935 - "In order to change your Apple ID or password for your iCloud account on your iOS device, you need to delete the account from your iOS device first, then add it back using your updated details. (Settings > iCloud, scroll down and hit "Delete Account") When you delete your account, all the data that is synced with iCloud will also be deleted from the device (but not from iCloud), but will be synced back to your device when you login again."

  • Mail on Macbook Pro and iMac

Just got a Macbook Pro, transferred all my data and programs from the iMac to the Pro. Noticed some funny behavior in mail. I deleted a bunch of transferred mail on the Pro (no need to keep it on two computers) but noticed missing email on the iMac. Mail server is mac, are they connected somehow? I was totally surprised to see iMac mail gone...am I crazy or are they connected somehow??

If they're IMAP accounts, then deleting them from one machine will have deleted them from the other machine, too.
    Mail server is mac
Don't know what you mean, exactly, but depending on your preference settings in Mail.app (that is, if you've chosen to store deleted messages on the server), your mail may still exist for a period of time. If you've emptied the trash, then no.

  • ICloud access for mail on MacBook Pros

Starting several days ago, email access via iCloud has been disrupted and will not connect.  Web access to iCloud is unimpaired.  Apple support indicates that the problem has been experienced by others using MacBook Pros--but not iPads or iPhone as is my case as well.
What is the status of this problem?  Why isn't there any public disclosure or discussion on the Apple Support web site?  When is the problem going to be addressed?
Any information from others affected by this problem would be appreciated.  Any status information from Apple would be especially appreciated.

There is no one from Apple here...just fellow users, like yourself. Apple does not respond to postings in these forums.

  • Connecting and viewing from macbook pro and tv - hardware in hand - how to do it?

Trying to connect my macbook pro (purchased 12/2011) to Sony TV.  Have the mini display port to hdmi cable and plugged in from computer to tv hdmi.  What do I do next to view computer items (Iphoto for example) on tv?

Go to settings-display and make sure that the tv is enabled as either mirror or a second display. Example here http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5019.  Also make sure your tv is set to the correct input.

  • TS4002 Incorrect Mail count on iCloud account in Mail on MacBook Pro only; running Lion

My iCloud account in Mail always displays 1 unread email message even when all are read or if there are multiple unread emails.  The iCloud account on the iPhone displays the read email count correctly.  iCloud mail works properly in every other aspect.

Actually, when you choose the "Unread Mail only" option it removed the ability to pick which mailbox to designate, so it chose all mail messages, even those I had in imported mailboxes and are offline.  I had to go in and mark all of those as "read" even though they were offline, (during the "archive" process it remarked all of them as unread) so that I could eliminate them as a source of the problem.
This issue occured after I had to do a clean install of Lion a while back due to a problem with the OS install the first time around.  I've just lived with it.  I just upgraded to iOS6 on my iPhone and was building the courage to install Mountain Lion.  I figured I should resolve the iCloud problem before I went down that road.
I want to avoid having to go through the clean install process again.

  • HT4207 Archiving gmail e-mails on MacBook Pro vs iPhone: Same action, different results

    The core issue:
The same action yields different results.
    The details:
First, I'm on my laptop looking at an e-mail sent to my gmail account and want to archive it so I hit archive and it goes to the archive folder; Second, I'm on my iPhone looking at an e-mail sent to my gmail account and want to archive it so I hit archive and it goes to the "All Mail" folder in my gmail account. The second part doesn't make me happy because it doesn't make any sense. In other words the same action results in two different results.
    Ideal solution:
Please tell me how to make the archive icon on my iPhone act like its righteous twin does on my MacBook Pro.
    Thanks!

Same question, but the reverse. I want Apple Mail on Mountain Lion to work like iOS with regard to archiving Gmail messages.

  • File sharing permissions issue between Macbook Pro and iMac

    Hi,
I'm having trouble sharing files to and from a Macbook Pro and iMac. Both are brand new, and connected via a firewire cable (Due to large file sizes)
I can share files between both computers no problem, but the files are set to 'Read only' by default once moved to the over device and can't be moved or renamed without requiring a password every single time.
Is there a way to totally share files without having to enter a password every time I want to move or rename it?
    > File sharing is turned ON on both computers.
    > Share files and folders using AFP is ticked
    > Share files and folders using SMB is ticked also.
    Thanks

Try disabling SMB File Sharing, & in the Sharing Pref Panes>Sharing>Options, see what users are listed.
Also, try logging into the other Mac with the Other Mac's username & PW, not using the name & PW of the one you're on.

See here:  If sharing options and Markup are missing after you install OS X Yosemite
This resolved the issue for me.

  • Migrated to a Macbook Pro, and iCloud.  Now Mail is a mess

I recently bought a Macbook Pro and used a time machine back up to migrate everything over to the new Macbook.  Everything is fine apart from mail.  I upgraded to iCloud and just opened Mail, and now all my inbox mails are jumbled.  By jumbled I mean the subject lines don't match any content in the emails.
I am not sure what to do really.  Everything else is fine such as my iPad and iPhone but Mail on my Macbook is completely out of whack.
    Any help appreciated!
    Thanks.

I'll give that a go and see what happens.  I'll report back shortly.
Okay, worked a treat!  Thanks so much.

  • HT4759 I have macbook pro and i don't have icloud in it after i reformat my laptop. I also can't find a lot of my applications.

I have a macbook pro and i reformat my laptop. I don't have many of the appictons or even icloud no more. How do I get all these back in?

Your signature says you have 10.6.8 - is this correct? There is no iCloud on 10.6.8 - if you had upgraded to Lion, but then reformatted and used the disks which came with your Mac you would have installed an older system, presumably 10.6.8? You will need to go through the upgrade process again to get Lion, so that you can access iCloud.
As to the apps, those which were not part of the installed system (such as Mail, Safari, etc.) will have to be reinstalled either from the original installers or a backup, and your actual files will have to be restored from a backup.

  • I've updated my Macbook Pro and my iMac with Maverick, updating the various apps. On my Macbook, everything functions perfectly. On my iMac, I get the Your System has Run out of Application Memory, and it's based our Mail, the only app not updated. Ideas?

    Maverick and Your System message
I've updated my Macbook Pro and my iMac with Maverick, updating the various apps (Pages, Aperture, iPhoto, Numbers & iMovie, too) in the process.
On my Macbook, everything functions perfectly. On my iMac, I get the Your System has Run out of Application Memory message. But it's not Calendar, it's Mail that not only won't open, but when it does now, it takes the entire system out with it.
I open Safari, and it works. I open Firefox, and it works and Safari still works. I open Calendar and it works, Safari and Firefox continue to work. I open Reminders, and everything still works.
I open Aperture, and it opens Finder instead, showing the 3.5 update that was installed two days ago (and Aperture has functioned), but doesn't seem to update the app; after about 20 seconds the update disappears and I can now open Aperture and it shows I'm now opening the updated Aperture, which it didn't show before.
I click on Mail, and the cursor spins for ten minutes. The mail window finally opens, but the cursor spins and does not connect to upload new mail, and I finally Force Quit Mail. Since the Maverick update, even though Mail was not updated (and maybe because Mail was not updated), I have been able to receive emails twice, and then the program crashed.
Besides the Aperture app, Pages didn't fully update on the iMac, and I had to remove the old Pages icon from the dock after the new program loaded up from Applications.
    Any ideas?

  • HT4864 Thank you! This may sound lame but are these instructions for the blackberry? I'm receiving iCloud emails without problems on my MacBook Pro and I'd rather not mess w/ settings there.

Thank you! This may sound lame but are these instructions for my blackberry? I'm receiving iCloud emails without problems on my MacBook Pro and I'd rather not mess w/ settings there. Thanks again!

You don't need to start a new thread to continue a conversation, you can just tack onto the original one. The settings I referred you to are for the Blackberry, since that's the device which is not receiving mail: anything which is working can be left alone.

As Bob says, any iMap service can do this. GMail can, iCLoud mail can too.
Both of these can be used with Mail on any device.
