Icloud: Says problem completing backup

First backup ever on ICloud: Says there is a problem completing backup.  Fix?

I deleted the backup, and tried a new one. It created a new backup, but it's marked as incomplete, and I'm still getting that same error message.
Anyone?

Yep, that's the only message that popped out. Nothing else. Yes, it's running on the latest ios and I still can't restore it. I called apple and they told me it's probably something wrong with their servers. Anyway thanks for the advice.

  • ICloud Error: There was a problem completing backup. Try again Later.

I have my iOS5 installed and everything is working correctly except for iCloud.  For some reason I cannot backup to it.  My sister and I are both on my apple id account and hers works fine, but mine doesnt. It says the next backup will be 0Bytes; to me that doesnt make any sense.  I have tried switching it on my computer to make from back up on this computer to back up on iCloud.  But I havent been able to fix it yet.  Can anyone help me???

1 ipod touch has this error.  Another one will backup but shows the date as unknown.  An iPad works fine.  I can't believe it is a server error.  I can run the iPad backup at the same time as the others and it works.  Also I restored the touches to factory and the backups still failed.  Swapped AppleID's and the errors followed the Id's.   I wish there was a way to validate that the backups were good on the web side.  In the manage storage on the one that fails completely, it show there is a backup with a size  and allows you to turn off the apps that are backed up but I know it has never completed successfully.  Even iTunes updates the date of the backup in the summary panel even though it has failed.  This feedback in iTunes Summary and the Manage panel on the device could give a false sense of security.   This needs some fixing from Apple.  At least iTunes backups are working as I have restored aa few times now under iOS 5/iTunes 10.5.

  • ICloud says cannot restore backup

    Hi guys,
I need help. I was trying to restore my iPhone from an Icloud backup and all it says is "cannot restore backup". That's it, nothing else. I've tried the same backup on iOS 7.1.1 and 7.1.2 and it gives me the same error. How on Earth do I fix this.
im using a 5s over wifi and cannot see a reason for this to be happening. Please help

That error message doesn't give you much to go on.  Hopefully it doesn't mean that the backup is corrupt and cannot be restored.  You might want to just try again later in case it's a server issue at Apple's end.  Otherwise, you can contact support here: http://www.apple.com/support/icloud/contact/.

  • I am having problems backing up icloud. the message says, "the last backup could not be completed."  Has anyone had this problem?

I just purchased more icloud space and I ham having problems backing up icloud on my iphone 5.  The message says,"the last backup could not be completed."  Anyone know why this is happening.

This may be caused by a corrupt existing backup that needs to be deleted, or by data on your device that is causing the backup to fail.  To troubleshoot these, try deleting your last iCloud backup (if you have one) by going to Settings>iCloud>Storage>Manage Storage, tap your device under Backups, then tap Delete Backup and choose Turn Off & Delete at the prompt.  Then go to Settings>iCloud>Backup and turn iCloud Backup back on and try backing up again.
If it still won't back up, you may have an app or something in your camera roll that is causing the backup to fail.  To locate which one, go to Settings>iCloud>Storage>Manage Storage, tap the name of your device under Backups, under Backup Options tap Show All Apps, then turn them all to Off (including camera roll) and try backing up again.  If the backup is successful, then the camera roll and/or one of your apps is causing the backup to fail and you'll have to located by process of elimination. Turn the camera roll On and try backing up again.  If it succeeds, turn some of your apps to On and try backing up again.  If it succeeds again, turn some more apps to On then try again; repeat this process until it fails.  Eventually you'll be able to locate the problem app and exclude it from your backup.

  • HT4847 my iphone says that an icloud backup has not been completed in 2 weeks , but I have tried several times to complete a backup, & each time , after a certain amount of time where it says it is 'backing up", it then says "the last backup could not be

My iphone says that icloud has not been backed up in 2 weeks...but after several attemps to back up, it continues to say "the latest backup did not complete"...I did have the phone plugged into my computer & connected to wi-fi..and it was locked...any idea why it won't complete the backup? it says total storage is 5.0 GB & available is 3.3 GB

    Welcome to the Apple Community.
You might try a forced shutdown to begin with, hold down the top and home buttons together until the device shuts down, then restart it.
First check that your device is correctly connected to the wifi/internet (settings > wifi)
If your back up continually fails, you might try turning off back up on your mobile device (settings > iCloud > storage & backup) and then deleting the backup file from iCloud by swiping the backup file on the mobile device (settings > iCloud > storage & backup > manage…) and then turning back up on again.
If this doesn't help, try turning off some items for back up in a pattern to try to establish if your problem is being caused by specific data on your device.
Being able to back up to the cloud can be very useful, especially if you don't have access to a computer or have infrequent access to one, however unless you specifically need to use iCloud for back up, you will find backing up to iTunes significantly more convenient and possibly more reliable.

  • HT4859 What do I do every time I tap "Back up Now" (through iCloud) it always says "The last backup could not be complete". My iPad is plugged in, locked and connected to wi-fi.  I still have available 11GB storage from 15GB total storage from iCloud.

I'm having exactly the same problem. I have a new iPad, my iCloud account is set up and verified (I wouldn't be logged in and writing this otherwise), auto backups are turned on, but it's never completed a backup. If I manually select 'Backup Now' in iCloud Settings, it times out while estimating time remaining. Strangely, today my iCloud free storage space went from 5G to 4.9G then back to 5G. Annoyingly, I'm now getting reminders that I've never backed it up! The iCloud help I followed from the forum didn't cover this error message.

  • HT3275 This help article says Red "i" message: "Unable to complete backup. An error occurred while copying files to the backup volume."  Restart, then try the backup once again."  OK, I've done that a few times and still receive the same error message. No

My Time Machine backup is repeatedly failing -- instead I receive a message saying it's unable to complete backup because an error has occured.  The only "Help" advice is to restart the computer and try to back up again, but that did not solve the problem. Help, please?

Restart the whole network.. not just the computer.. restart in correct order with everything off.
    modem
    TC or router
    clients
    2min gap.
If you still have trouble, give us the whole network layout.. what broadband? what modem? any other router? are you using wireless? what mode is the TC in?
I am assuming you are using a time capsule.

  • When I backup from my iPhone via iCloud backup and for some reason it only completes half, then will it save the half completed backup

My iCloud backup only completes upto half steps(sometimes) so will it save the half completed backup in iCloud

This needs to be addressed because you will not be able to use an incomplete backup.  Not being able to back up to iCloud can be caused by a corrupt existing backup that needs to be deleted, or by data on your device that is causing the backup to fail.  To troubleshoot these, try deleting your last iCloud backup (if you have one) by turning off iCloud Backup in Settings>iCloud>Storage & Backup, then tap Manage Storage, tap your device under Backups, then tap Delete Backup.  Then go back and turn iCloud Backup back on and try backing up again.
If it still won't back up, you may have an app or something in your camera roll that is causing the backup to fail.  To locate which one, go to Settings>iCloud>Storage & Backup>Manage Storage, tap the name of your device under Backups, under Backup Options tap Show All Apps, then turn them all to Off (including camera roll) and try backing up again.
