'iCloud says storage is full'  - But it shouldn't be?

My iPhone will not back up because it say my iCloud is full.  I have looked at the breakdown of what is due to be backed up and it says  I have 4.9GB on the Camera Roll.  But I have transferred all the pictures and videos off my phone so it is completely empty.  So why is it trying to backup 4.9GB of pics that don't exist?
Cheers,
Carl.

My ipad mini says that my stirage is full but i have dleted everything and its still the same, i cant download apps, or take photos and camera and photos seems to be taking up the most GB even though i have delted everything from my photos. Does anyone know what this is? thank you!

When you delete photo in 8.x it puts them in a deleted folder,  it lets them in there for 30 days.  You need to delete the photos / videos in the delete folder ( may have different name. )

An easy check.  Go into the settings on your iPad, and under your iCloud account, check the setting for "photos".  If there is a setting for "my photo stream" and it is on, then you are using Photo Stream - My Photo Stream FAQ - Apple Support
Note from that FAQ that Photo Stream never used any of your personal iCloud storage anyway, so buying more personal storage does not increase space for photo stream.  Photo stream is a system intended for synchronization of images across multiple devices and was never intended to be used as permanent storage or backup.  It is a temporary parking place for images to allow for them to be shared across multiple devices.
With iOS 8.3 and OS X 10.10.3, there is a new service, iCloud Photo Library which actually IS online storage of your photo's - all your photo's.  It does use space in your personal iCloud account.  Since the default free storage is only 5GB and is used for your iCloud mail, backups, synchronized files and data, the default setting for iCloud Photo Library is to keep all photo's on the device as they are, in order not to fill up your free iCloud storage.  If you purchase additional storage and want to remove photos from an iDevice or computer, then you need to change the settings on the device to clear out space once it has uploaded images to your iCloud account.
If, in your iPad's settings, general, about just look at the "version" line.  If it is not showing 8.3, then you cannot possibly be using iCloud Photo Library and must be using Photo Stream.  Until you upgrade to iOS 8.3 you would not even have the option to use iCloud Photo Library as it is a new service, introduced with iOS 8.3.
If you are running iOS 8.3, under your iCloud account settings, under "Photos" you will have three settings:
    1. iCloud Photo Library - enable this to use your personal iCloud account storage for cloud storage of your photo library
    2. My Photo Stream - enable this to synchronize photo's across all your devices that share the same iCloud account.  This does NOT use any of your personal iCloud account's storage.  Images will be automatically deleted from your stream after 30 days.
    3. iCloud Photo Sharing - allows you to create albums which can be shared (viewed) with others.

  • My phone keeps saying "storage almost full" I have 6GB available of phone storage and 4.5GB available of iCloud. Can anyone help me?

My phone keeps saying "storage almost full" I have 6GB available of phone storage and 4.5GB available of iCloud. Can anyone help me? I obviously have space but I don't know whats going on...

The taking of photos requires storage capacity on the phone itself. iCloud storage has nothing to do with picture taking, that is backup storage area. You will have to remove content from the phone to increase storage on the phone to be able to take photos.

    Close your iTunes,
    Go to command Prompt -
(Win 7/Vista) - START/ALL PROGRAMS/ACCESSORIES, right mouse click "Command Prompt", choose "Run as Administrator".
    (Win XP SP2 & above) - START/ALL PROGRAMS/ACCESSORIES/Command Prompt
In the "Command Prompt" screen, type in
    netsh winsock reset
    Hit "ENTER" key
    Restart your computer.
If you do get a prompt after restart windows to remap LSP, just click NO.
Now launch your iTunes and see if it is working now.
If you are still having these type of problems after trying the winsock reset, refer to this article to identify which software in your system is inserting LSP:

my iphone 4 wont download apps, says my storage is full, but when i delete photos/apps, its still says my storage is full. whenever i try to backup my phone, it doesnt work. anything i can do?

Go to Settings - General - Usage and see which apps are taking up a lot of space.
In my experience, if you haven't cleaned out your Messages that is where a lot of space is consumed.

  • I have 25.0 GB and 23.4 GB available space yet I can't download a show, it says storage is full

I have 25.0 GB and 23.4 GB available but my iPad will not download a movie, says storage is full??

Settings / General / Usage is where to go and see what's eating up the local space on the device, and where.
Movies can't be viewed remotely so they have to be downloaded fully before they can be played.

my iCloud says account not verified but doesn't send me an e-mail for verificationl, have tried this maney times but no e-mail reply ?

Check your Mail rules and filtering, the verification mail may be going to a junk folder or even being deleted altogether. You may also wish to contact your mail provider to see if their spam filters are removing the email before it gets to you.

  • My icloud storage is full but i can't see where all the data is.

I am using an iPhone 4S.  My iCloud (free) storage of 5GB is approaching full usage.  When I try to free up some space, the documents and data only amount to less than 20MB.  I can't see where the rest of the 4.88MB is used and is totally invisible to me.  Please help

    Hey Dragonfly1981,
    Welcome to Apple Support Communities.
Take a look at the article linked below, it provides a lot of great information that will help you find out what’s taking up the other 4.8 GB of data and choose what you want to be backed up.

  • Can't take photos and prompt keeps appearing saying STORAGE ALMOST FULL, YOU CAN MANAGE STORAGE IN SETTINGS but get stuck once I go to settings

Can't take photos on my iPad and the prompt keeps appearing, STORAGE ALMOST FULL YOU CAN MANAGE STORAGE IN SETTINGS. Which I do but don't get any further!

Do you have a computer around?  You could try plugging your iPad in and deleting uneeded apps, songs, movies, etc. using iTunes.

  • I keep getting warnings that my icloud space is almost full, but I have almost 1GB left

I recently upgraded my iPhone 4S to iOS 8, then a couple of days later got an iPhone 6 (obviously with iOS 8), 64GB. I've removed the backups from my old phone, so in my iCloud, it's telling me there's a backup for my iPad of around 800MB and my (new) iPhone of around 3.2GB. All this seems right (it's mostly photos). I am now getting periodic pop-up warnings from iCloud (running on Windows 7 64-bit Pro) that say "iCloud storage almost full". It's showing that I have about 975MB free which while not a lot, is sufficient since each backup should continue to be around the same size.
The thing that's annoying is that I seem to be getting this warning pretty frequently. I haven't timed it, but it seems like these warnings are happening every 10 or 15 minutes. Is there some threshold of free space that I need to maintain to prevent these warnings?
Would deleting my backup and creating a new one help?

In answer to your first question, unfortunately you don't get allocated more iCloud storage as you buy more devices - it is 5GB free per account.
Regarding the pop-up, I too find it annoying but you won't find a resolution to it on these forums - best thing to do is to submit feedback to Apple and hope they improve it.

  • Storage is full but I can't remove anything from my iphone 5s

Hi there. I just upgraded to an iPhone 5s (16GB) from an iPhone 4 (16GB). While still using the iPhone 4 I enabled iCoud and iTunes Match and synced them across all my other devices (iPad and PCs). Now when using my iPhone 5s I constantly receive a message stating my storage is full (this didn't happen on my iPhone 4). When I sync my iPhone 5s to iTunes (version 12.0.1) it shows me that I have +7GB of music on my phone and +2GB of photos on my phone. However, because I have iCloud and iTunes Match enabled, I cannot locate any physical files on my phone in order to delete them. Has anyone else come across this issue, or have useful suggestions on how to fix the issue? Is there a trick to locating the files that may actually be physically on my device? Thanks for your help!

Sorry everyone, but with a bit more digging I was able to solve the issue. However, after locating the rouge music files, now iTunes shows I have +8GB of "other"! I think I've found some advice on getting rid of most of the "other" stuff. Sorry for the post...I should have done a bit more research before posting.
