ICloud storage for iTunes library

Hello --
I am unclear on how he iCloud works with the iTunes library.
Is all my media files saved there, including items bought from the iTunes store and  mp3 that  add to  itunes  that I buy elsewhere?
Thanks
fpe

Hello there, fpefpe.
The following links provide some great information on how iCloud works:
iCloud - All y our content on all your devices.
https://www.apple.com/icloud/features/
With iCloud, anything you purchase in the iTunes Store, the App Store, and iBooks is automatically available on all your devices the moment you tap Buy. You can also access past purchases from any of your devices.
If you want to have your non-iTunes purchased content in the cloud, then you may want to look into iTunes Match. These articles provide great information on the service as well:

  • Using External Hard Drive as storage for iTunes Library - Problems

I currently use an external hard drive to store my iTunes music, does anyone know why when I copy folders to iTunes library, duplicates appear - sometimes 2 or 3 copies of same song, same artist, album everything. A trud copy. Also, when you are setting up your music folder on the External Hard drive, would you copy from C: the entire iTunes tree - ie. iTunes/iTunes music/iTunes library or just have one folder called iTunes library? Also, when specifying location for finding music in preferences, again would you use entire tree of just iTunes music library.

See Dave Sawyer's post here - it's the easiest way

  • Time Capsule as media storage for iTunes library?

i'd just like to start by saying that i have been searching and reading online now most of the afternoon and any help at all would be greatly appreciated.... seriously.
i'll try and keep my question(s) as to the point as possible: i have a Time Capsule - i am trying to figure out how to use it to store all or some (is some just possible?) of my iTunes library, as i am running out of space on my MacBook due to the size of my music collection. two, if i get all the music copied onto the TC, can i delete some of it off my MB then to free up the space i'm wanting? three, will i still be able to put music from the iTunes on my TC on my iPod?
i would LIKE to still be able to do backups with my TC, but after all the reading i've done it sounds as though it may be an either or situation.... if this is the case, i can always manually place files i wanted backed up on the TC, right?
i apologize that some of this may belong in another forum. i'm new and frustrated and just trying to understand. again, any help would be much appreciated. thank you.

    1 - Quit iTunes.
2 - Copy the entire /Music/iTunes/ folder from MacBook to Time Capsule.
3 - Hold Option and launch iTunes.
4 - Select *Choose library* an select the *iTunes folder* on the Time Capsule.
5 - System prefs > Accounts. Add the Time Capsule to your Login items so it mounts when you login in as the drive with iTunes folder on it needs to be mounted when iTunes is launched.
You can now delete /Music/iTunes/ folder on the MacBook. You can put an Alias of the iTunes folder on the Time Capsule if you wish.
three, will i still be able to put music from the iTunes on my TC on my iPod?
Yes. Everything will work just like it did previously.
i would LIKE to still be able to do backups with my TC, but after all the reading i've done it sounds as though it may be an either or situation
    It's not either/or.
You can put other files on the Time Capsule. The Time Machine backup is a separate folder on the Time Capsule.

  • Can I upgrade iCloud storage using iTunes cards for payment?

I have chosen not to use my credit card in conjunction with my AppleID, so I purchase all of my apps and media using iTunes cards.  Can I pay for upgraded iCloud storage using iTunes credits?  I would prefer to pay one year at a time using those credits, but if it needs to be monthly, that would be fine as well.  I just want to use the iTunes cards instead of a credit card for the payment.

Thank you.  So to clarify, if I put a credit card on file for this AppleID, but I have plenty of iTunes credit to cover the monthly cost, then the monthly fee will be pulled from iTunes credits instead of my credit card.  Is that correct?
It sounds like the credit card is required in order to provide a backup payment option if the iTunes credits are all used up.  Is that also correct?
You're awesome!! Thanks for the help.

  • I'm trying to upgrade my iCloud storage for the new price.

I'm trying to upgrade my iCloud storage for the new price, but it doesn't gives me the option of 20G for $0.99 a month.
    How can I get 20g for $0.99 a month?
    Thanks!

    Katherine,
have you read the message in the panel? Something is wrong with your credit card. Perhaps you have to enter a new date of expiration.
In the small print it says, there is still a purchase, that needs paying,"Ugly Heart" with an amount of R 9.99. And "We were unable to authorise your credit card for this purchase".  You will first have to update your Billing Information before you can proceed to make a new purchase for upgraded storage.  Click "Account Details" in the iCloud panel.
    -- Léonie
If you cannot fix the account from the iCloud panel, open iTunes and sign into the "Store" menu, Then use the "Store > View account" item there to check for problems with your Billing Information.

Can I creat an new iCloud account and make it the primary one for my backups and buy extra iCloud storage for it?  Thank you

    Hey Hindfromlondon,
Welcome to Apple Support Communities.  Since you are posting here, I take it you already have an Apple ID.
You can setup that Apple ID to work with iCloud.  See:
Set up your Apple ID for iCloud and iTunes - Apple Support
And you usually want to stick with one Apple ID as having multiples can cause confusion (especially with purchases).
Frequently asked questions about Apple ID - Apple Support
    What is an Apple ID?
An Apple ID is a user name you use for everything you do with Apple. Creating an account for an Apple service, such as the iTunes Store or the App Store, creates an Apple ID. Apple ID allows you to access other Apple services. You don't have to create a new account for each service—just use your Apple ID.
For a complete list of all of the places you can use an Apple ID, see Where do I use an Apple ID.
    and further down:
I have multiple Apple IDs. Is there a way for me to merge them into a single Apple ID?
Apple IDs cannot be merged. You should use your preferred Apple ID from now on, but you can still access your purchased items such as music, movies, or software using your other Apple IDs.
If you are wondering how using multiple Apple IDs relate to iCloud, see Apple IDs and iCloud.

I encourage you to read all about it as there's lots of information out there.

  • Purchase iCloud storage for other users

Can I buy iCloud storage for other users?
    Thank you.

To the best of my knowledge, purchased storage stays with Apple id it is purchased to. To the best of my knowledge, it is unlike itunes store, and is not obligated to comply with local laws/regulations for downloads.
I wish sometimes that people like you could create tips on do's and don'ts internationally, since we are all a bit shortsighted when it comes to Non our country situation. Unfortunately that tip here will die in the dark.
BTW, I think your switching store may backfire for you, but I am sure you were informed of that on the phone.
    Question:
Is it possible to pay in EU for iCloud accounts valid in China (RMB) and in the US (USD)
They do not care( they will charge in acceptable units and card will take care of exchange rate), as long as card is accepted by corresponding store ( it is if it is on your file, and if not on file -you will find out as soon as you try to put it on it )
As in the end they will end up back in the EU.
What happens if you extend the storage in 1 country and then move to another country with a different currency and extend it again?
I think I already answered that one.

  • Can i upgrade icloud storage for secondary account?

My secondary account is used mostly for email.  I deleted a ton of them but somehow am still voer the 5GB limit.
I'm willing to pay the $100 upgrade to get rid of the hassle, but is theere a way to upgrade icloud storage for your secondary account?

You would probably have to temporarily make the secondary account the primary account to upgrade it.  To do this, go to System Preferences>Mail,Contacts,Calendars...delete the secondary account, then go to System Preferences>iCloud, sign out of your primary account and choose Delete at all of the prompts (your data will still be in iCloud), then sign back in with your secondary account ID and upgrade the storage.
After upgrading the secondary account storage, reverse the procedure to assign the primary and secondary accounts back the way they were.

  • I recently purchased icloud storage for my iPad Air.  I want to store photos in the cloud and learn how to retrieve them.  I need help.

I recently  purchased iCloud storage for my iPad Air so that I can store my photos in the cloud.  I don't know how to do this.  I want to be able to retrieve them as well.

    Hello Janet
With that iCloud storage that you purchased, is used for mainly for iCloud Backup for your iPad Air, app data as in games and documents for like iWork and other apps that save data locally within the app. Dealing with photos in your Photo Stream they actually do not count towards that storage plan. If you don’t think that the storage is going to work for you, then cancel the upgrade you just made.
