ICloud storage limit

I have three Apple devices, but I only seem to have 5 GB of iCloud storage.  Shouldn't I have 5 GB for each device or is 5 GB per person all you get?

You have 5GB per Apple ID unless you buy more.

"If you exceed your iCloud storage limit, photos and videos won't upload to iCloud, and your library will no longer stay up to date across your devices."  Really?  Can't we support the existing "last 1k photos will be available in the cloud" model?  If we don't do this, won't this kill auto-sync of new photos from iOS devices to our libraries on our Macs (if the Mac's Photos app has auto syncing with the cloud turned on) once we go over our 5gb limit?  I have 350GB of photos in my Mac Photos library - I am not going to pay $20/month for 1tb iCloud storage.  Please advise, Apple.  Thank you.

I agree and am baffled by this also.  At first I was really excite about this new feature.  Mostly because I would be able to seamlessly sync videos along with my PhotoStream.  I just assumed there would be some systematic way to handle large libraries.  Like removing older files as the current PhotoStream does.  However, it appears that this new feature will simply 'shut down' when you reach your storage limit.  This just makes no sense to me.  I would have to double check, but I have all my photos and videos in iPhoto and stored on a 3 TB external hard drive and I think the full library is over 1 TB.  So, even if I was willing to pay $20 a month for photo syncing (which I am not) I couldn't do it because my library is too large.  Again I am just baffled why Apple cannot blend this new service with the existing PhotoSteam model.  My favorite aspect of PhotoSteam is that is uploads all my iPad and iPhone Photos to my Mac for permanent storage and it seems this is lost in the new version.

  • Match and iCloud storage limit

My iCloud account for the first time has sent me a message saying that my storage has reached it's limit; also advising that my iPhone can not be backed up any longer.  Is my service with iTunes Match affected by this status, meaning that Match also cannot take on any more files from my iTunes?

    Hi Jimzgoldfinch:
I have two simple questions about iTunesMatch:  Can you check on how much it currently being stored in Match or do you just have to wait until they notified you that it's at the limit.  Also, whenever I get new music I put in my own label for genre - I also sometimes change the date to be to the original vinyl release instead of the "incorrect" CD date, though I never change the actual name of the song file.  Does changing this information make Match think of the file as a distinct file that they do not have and thus must be uploaded into my memory space or can Match determine a match even though I've changed some of the info on the file?

  • Do photo stream pictures count against the iCloud storage limit?

    Aloha all,
My iPad is my only Apple device, so my concern is not having multiple devices synced.  I am more interested in having a backup of the pictures and video I take with my iPad.
Mahalo for your time and help

Photo Stream is intended more for sharing your photos and syncing them between devices. You should look at DropBox or other dedicated photo sites if you are looking for more of an online backup. But the best backup is to get your photos synced to a computer and back them up to a backup USB drive as well. I will go another step and burn CD/DVDs of my photos as well.
I like to use DropBox as an online back up when traveling till I can get home and get a copy of my photos into my photo library and it's more permanent backups.

  • HT4847 refund of additional icloud storage

I received an email telling me I was about the exceed my iCloud storage limit then got a system message saying I had exceeded the 5GB free storage. I purchased an additional 10GB but after this process checking my iCloud storage, I have not exceeded to 5GB free limit!
Does anyone have the link to request a refund from Apple as the online help just goes around in circles?

You can cancel an iCloud storage upgrade within 15 days of buying:
Apple have made this as difficult as possible. However two posters have managed to achieve this. Elizellen was able to use Express Lane to get a refund:
    https://discussions.apple.com/message/19323996#19323996
However if you use Express Lane may find you cannot proceed without entering a hardware serial number which is still eligible for AppleCare.  julia22 managed to find a way round that by phoning them - please see this post:
    https://discussions.apple.com/message/16968425#16968425
it gives the USA number - if you don't live there you will have to find an equivalent number from the 'Contact Us' link at bottom right of this page.
If it is more than 15 days since you purchased the storage you cannot cancel it for a refund; you can downgrade your plan as from your next renewal date. Please see
    http://help.apple.com/icloud/#mmd602084a
and expand 'Downgrade your storage for the next plan year'.

  • HT4914 Does the music upload limit of 25 000 songs to iCloud is aside of the 6gig limit offered by iCloud for stocking/saving data or is it the same? Will I have to pay for an storage limit update for iCloud because I take iTunes Match?

And will I have to pay for an update storage limit for iCloud because I take iTunes Match?

No, your iCloud storage is seperate. I have 42GB of music in my itunes match account and I still have almost all of the 5GB of storage space free. You only have to pay for itunes match once and as long as you don't have more than 25,000 songs in your itunes, you are good to go.

  • ICloud exceeded storage limit - but I haven't.

I have searched everywhere to find a discussion on this, but haven't yet.
I've received the email telling me I've exceeded my iCloud storage and that my emails will be debilitated until I delete messages.
I have only used half of my allocated 25gb, however.
I thought there used to be a way to allocate how much goes to mail, how much goes elsewhere, but I'm no longer seeing that option. Am I missing something here? Is only so much allowed for email to begin with?
    Please help.
    Thanks.

Thank you. I delete a bulk of unused emails everyday and have far less than most people I know in my business, and have nothing else but my contacts synced with iCloud. I contacted Apple Support by phone and they are unable to figure out why I received the email either. They said there is no allotted amount for Mail only and verified that half my storage is still available.
Interestingly, my boyfriend has been receiving this same email for the last month or so even though he has plenty of storage available as well. I sincerely hope it is not a numbers game on Apple's part, thinking that a certain number of people will just panic and upgrade their storage without doing the research.
    Thanks for the response.

  • Can i upgrade icloud storage for secondary account?

My secondary account is used mostly for email.  I deleted a ton of them but somehow am still voer the 5GB limit.
I'm willing to pay the $100 upgrade to get rid of the hassle, but is theere a way to upgrade icloud storage for your secondary account?

You would probably have to temporarily make the secondary account the primary account to upgrade it.  To do this, go to System Preferences>Mail,Contacts,Calendars...delete the secondary account, then go to System Preferences>iCloud, sign out of your primary account and choose Delete at all of the prompts (your data will still be in iCloud), then sign back in with your secondary account ID and upgrade the storage.
After upgrading the secondary account storage, reverse the procedure to assign the primary and secondary accounts back the way they were.

  • TS3899 I get the following message when I try to send email from my IPAD, "a copy has been placed in your outbox, " it tells me I have exceeded my storage limit. How can I rectify this. The account works fine on the IMAC just not on the IPAD?

When I try to send an email from my iCloud account on my IPAD I get the message that a copy has been saved to outbox as my storage limit has been reached. It works fine on the main computer but not on the ipad. How can I mend this?

I have just encountered exactly the same issue for the last 24 hrs - mail goes to outbox from iPad yet send OK from icloud account on my powerbook. Tried resetting the push email settings on the iPad but no chnage.

  • How can I delete the photos or files in my iCloud storage that is no longer needed?

How can I delete the photos or files in my icloud storage that is no longer needed?

Explain how it didn't work and what you are trying to delete.  Since icloud doesn't store photos except for those in a backup (then delete the backup); photos in photo stream do not count towards your storage limit.

  • How can I find my iCloud storage breakdown?

I am over my storage limit and don't want to buy more storage. I used to have no problems before videos on photo stream skyrocketed my data. I've deleted all videos and delete my iCloud data.  So now I have approx 500MB of photos and nothing else of size but my iCloud acct mgr says I need nearly 6GB of space. What besides video could need that much data?
ICloud seems like a an intentionally designed trouble spot so clients almost always need to buy extra storage.

  • Can I reset my icloud storage?

Can I reset my icloud storage and start over using the same Apple id???

Essentially, you can delete your back up, contacts and calendars. All togehter should not take longer then five min. Once you do that if that is only about size you are pretty much golden to start over. You don't even have to touch contacts and calendars if that is only about storage limit.

  • Advise needed in regard to iCloud storage 5GB

Can anyone please advise me in regard to the iCloud storage of 5GB:
I have 2 devices using iCloud: iPad and iPhone.
iCloud has said to me it is almost full and I really am not sure why? I have deleted all music from the 2 devices, hoping this would free up a lot of space. But this did not seem to improve the space level very much.
I have on the devices: No music.  A few apps. Alot of podcasts. No videos. 40 photos. Not many documents.
I have looked at the backups for the devices: iphone: 2.3GB and iPad 2.1GB.    So, this explains to me what is causing the 'full' limit almost being reached.
So, I still would like to take my music with me when I travel. At the moment, in order to do this I have cancelled using iCloud on my iPad.  But was this the right thing to do? Should I only have one device using iCloud?
Any advise would be appreciated. Thank you

Removing music from your devices won't remove it from iCloud.  The music stays there in case you want to download it again.

  • How can I turn off iBooks iCloud storage?

It's messing with my total allowed storage (putting me over the limit) and I just want it turned off. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

    Settings
    iCloud
    storage & backup
    manage storage
    (select your device )
Below is all the apps set to back up to your cloud, turn off and delete stored data from any App you like.
Below each App is the amount of cloud storage is uses.
Usually Photo and video are the GB hogs.  Use dropbox on your iPod, iPad and computer to automatically download photos you take daily, so they don't need to be backed up to the cloud.
Mapping apps take up a ton of storage.
Books don't usually take up much data, but you may have 1000's while I have a couple dozen.
