ICloud storage management

I like the sync componant to iCloud. My iMac, iPad and iPhone all have shared contacts, etc.
However, I just received an email saying I need to buy more storage. So, I went to iCloud management and thought to turn off Documents and Data only to be told .."all documents stored in iCloud will be removed from this Mac."
Removed as in deleted from my Mac?
What can I safely remove/trim from iCloud to avoid the purchase of additional storage?
Can't just select what will be synced without loosing data altogether?

If you no longer need the old backup, you can safely delete it to free up the space it occupies in your iCloud account.  This only deletes the backup from iCloud.  It won't effect any of your iCloud data or any data on your new phone.

  • My iPhone 4s has loaded my friends iPhone back up to my iCloud in iCloud storage manager. Now it keeps wanting to back up to her phone when I was using her laptop. How do I delete hers and retrieve mine?

I was trying to use iTunes on her lap top w my iPhone, I got distracted & didn't realise it was syncing w her iTunes. Both mine and hers were initially there in iCloud storage manager on my ipone, but when I selected the 'turn off & delete' in storage manager in iCloud, hers reappears. Mine has completely gone & no longer shows when I turned backup back on.

Correction, it's doing it all the time now. Not on her lap top.

  • I have deleted hundreds of pictures, I've deleted apps, deleted emails and texts, and I've turned off and deleted backups of apps on icloud and it is still telling me that there is not enough icloud storage available for my phone to be back

I have deleted hundreds of pictures, I've deleted apps, deleted emails and texts, and I've turned off and deleted backups of apps on icloud and it is still telling me that there is not enough icloud storage available for my phone to be backed up. I am supposed to do this before I go to the Apple store today to get my phone fixed. Can someone please help me? I have done almost everything.

This article explains ways to reduce your iCloud storage: Managing your iCloud storage.  In addition to what's mentioned in the article, if you have lots of photos and videos attached to your text messages, these are all included in your iCloud backup and deleting them can sometimes significantly reduce the size of your backup.
If worse comes to worse, back up your phone to your computer rather than iCloud.  To do this, connect it to your computer, open iTunes and go to File>Devices>Back Up and to File>Devices>Transfer Purchases.  This can be used to restore your data when you get your phone back.  (In fact, it's faster because you don't have to download the data from iCloud.)

  • HT4914 Do you need to purchase more than the basic 5 Gigs of free iCloud storage if you have more than 5 Gigs of all data that can be stored on iCloud if you subscribe to iTunes Match?

I purchased an additional 10 Gigs of iCloud storage in 2012 for my iPhone 4S and iPad (3rd Gen Wi-Fi) for $20 per year through my iPhone carrier AT&T using IOS 4.3 which has been kept updated to IOS 6.13. In 2012 I purchased an iPad 3rd Generation with Wi-Fi only and at the end of my one year 10 gig upgrade I noticed that I had not used any of the additional 10 gigs and was not going to renew the additional storage. However, I decided to move all of my MP3 music library and copy my remaining CD collection of music (a couple hundred CD's) to my Windows Computer Hard Drive so that I could keep them safe.
As I started purchasing new Albums from iTunes I decided to allow iTunes to store all my music in case my Hard Drive crashed. I did not purchase iTunes Match but all of my collections appear to be stored on iTunes as the storage cloud appears on my Apple devices which use the same Apple ID. A week ago I purchased another iPad (4th Generation Wi-Fi only) so my wife and I could use them at the same time. I kept everything under the same Apple ID because I use a lot of music creation apps like AmpliTube, Drum machines, Guitar Pro etc for creating music as well as Photo Apps for my Photography hobby and I wanted access to the apps regardless of which device was handy (including connecting the 2 iPads together for music looping and more).
I still don't see any of the additional Ten gigs used as less than 500 Meg's are backed up into memory from each of the three devices.
QUESTION: What is the advantage of an iTunes Match subscription if my library of some 10K songs are already stored on iTunes and I have not yet exceeded the initial 5 gigs of free iCloud storage? I keep my library in MP3 format for convenience and convert my music library to between 192 and 320 Kbps. Given the choice should I cancel the additional iCloud storage and subscribe to iTunes Match. Is iTunes Match a replacement for purchasing additional iCloud Storage?
Confused as to which service I need?

Only 5gb free iCloud storage is available for one apple ID.
    As you said, 2 + 2.4 doesn't add up to 5gb
These are all the things that gets saved on iCloud
    Photos and videos
    iOS backup
Documents (from Pages, numbers, keynote, documents from other apps)
    Also email from @iCloud.com account
if you go to [Settings > iCloud > Storage > Manage Storage], you can see this.
This should show you what is taking up your iCloud storage.

  • CommonDocuments folder in iCloud storage

On my iPad, under Settings > iCloud > Storage > Manage Storage  I see a folder called CommonDocuments. It has a blank grey icon. It contains a couple of files (a pdf and a jpg) that I copied to the iCloud using an app (Documents) on my iPad. The documents can't be opened or viewed when I am in the CommonDocuments folder, though they can be deleted (swipe).
My question: how can I access these documents on my iMac via iCloud? There's no folder called CommonDocuments, but obviously these docs are there somewhere in my iCloud.

    solved!
after 4 days of sleep, iCloud drive suddenly woke up and synced the rest

  • ICloud storage almost full since updating to iOS 8

I updated my software to iOS 8 and ever since I've had very frequent notifications to tell me my iCloud storage is almost full, which I never had before iOS 8. I've tried to 'manage' my iCloud storage but there doesn't seem to be a way to free up space. Is the only way to free up storage to delete stuff like photos, apps and songs? I would buy more storage if it was a one off payment but it's a monthy payment which is just annoying!

    Hello Laura,
you could delete old backups in Settings > iCloud > Storage > Manage Storage or by deleting content in Apps that storing data on iCloud.
    Best regards,
    David

  • How do I take my old iphone off my icloud storage after I no longer have the phone?

I need help taking my old iphone off my icloud storage.

The only storage it could be using is an old iCloud backup, if you were backing it up to iCloud.  You can remove this from another device that is sharing the account by going to Settings>iCloud>Storage>Manage Storage, tap the name of the old phone under Backups, then tap Delete Backup.

  • Help. Device name deleted iCloud storage

I have an iPad, iPad mini and iphone.  Thought Id be 'good' and delete some photos etc, to free up space, Then went into iPad, settings, iCloud, storage, manage storage, clicked on iPhone name, clicked on delete backup, (think that a message popped up) but I clicked on delete backup. Now in the storage section under back ups, my iPhone name is no longer there on either iPad or iPad mini. And if i go into same bit on my iPhone and on storage section it says iCloud storage details are currently unavailable.
In my wisdom (or should I say total lack of it), i plugged in phone, cable to my macbook, clicked something for backup thinking it would magically make it appear on every device again, but it didn't.
If I log into iCloud, it does say all three things are associated with my iCloud account (mini iPad, iPad and phone).
Have I really messed stuff up?  Can I get name of iPhone to appear back in settings/storage section.  PLEASE HELP..... wish there was Apple shop near me, I don't do instructions = much better if shown what to do, but I have to know what to ask in correct manner... please someone get me out of this pickle

Well not, all, hope is lost, yet
you could have used either of these

  • ICloud storage almost full

I'm getting messages saying my iCloud storage is almost full. It says I have 730 MB of 5 GB available. 4.2 GB of what I've used is Mail. So I deleted all my e-mails (Inbox, Sent, Trash, Junk, everything) and it says I still have 730 MB available.
Can someone help me how to make some space so I can continue using iCloud?
    Thanks

You need to delete from iCloud not from your iPhone.
Settings > iCloud > Storage > Manage Storage > do it here

    Welcome to the Apple Community.
You might try a forced shutdown to begin with, hold down the top and home buttons together until the device shuts down, then restart it.

  • The following message appears when I try to turn on the iPad..."Not enough storage..this iPad cannot be backed up because there is not enough iCloud storage available. You can manage your storage in settings." When I tap Close or Settings nothing happens

The following message appears when I try to turn on the iPad..."Not enough storage..this iPad cannot be backed up because there is not enough iCloud storage available. You can manage your storage in settings." When I tap Close or Settings nothing happens

Reboot the iPad by holding down on the sleep and home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider if it appears on the screen - let go of the buttons. Let the iPad start up.
