ICloud sync created duplicate iTunesU

After upgrading my iPhone 4 to iOS 7, I was able to access all of my iTunes U courses via iCloud. I then upgraded my MacBook Pro to Mavericks so I could again sync my computer and phone. However, after plugging my phone into the computer one time to charge it (syncing being handled through iCloud), I now have an iCloud duplicate for every iTunes U course I have. There is only a single subfolder for each in the iTunes folder, and deleting any of the iCloud versions deletes the original as well. Can anyone tell me why this happened and let me know what the smartest way is to get rid of the duplicates without either losing the originals or resetting the record of which lectures I've listened to? Thanks.

My Contacts Backup Pro has a 4+ rating, but it's up to you if you want to try it or not.  If you haven't done so already, you might want to take a look at Apple's KB article on duplicate iCloud contacts: http://support.apple.com/kb/TS4147.  It's not a very common problem, and can be caused by things like attempting to sync contacts with both iCloud and iTunes.
If you have cleaned up your contacts only to see duplicates reappear on their own, you might need to get iCloud support to help you with this one as it's a rare problem.  Then may need to have a senior engineer take a look at your account to determine what's causing it.

  • Icloud sync created duplicate contacts...can't get rid of them

Ever since I began syncing my iPhone via iCloud, multiple entries have popped up in my Contacts.  In some cases I'll have 4 or 5 duplicate Contacts when I started with just one.  I tried deleting them manually (which took forever) but they just come back.
I tried shutting off iCloud sync and doing it the old way, but I realized that many contacts were missing.  (i.e. I must have deleted them from locations other than iCloud, and that's the only place where they reside now.)
I feel stuck.  This is very frustrating.  iCloud was supposed to make my life easier and it's screwing things up.  Any suggestions?
PS - I have an iMac running OS X 10.8.4 and an iPhone 5.

  • Do iCloud and Wi-Fi auto sync create duplicates when work same time?

Do iCloud and Wi-Fi auto sync create duplicates when work same time?
I assume iCloud should do same that "Sync with this iPhone over Wi-Fi" in iTunes does.
    How do they coexist?

Thanks for reply but somehow desagre as I just drow attention to the iTunes that Sync iCal Calendars indicates:
quote - Your calendars are being synced with iCloud over the air. You can also choose to sync calendars with this computer. this may result in duplicated data showing on your device.
    unquote-
Same about Bookmarks, Mail and Contacts.

  • Calender sync creates duplicate entries!!

Everytime an update comes out out for either iphone or itunes, my calender sync creates duplicate entries. One of them is being duplicated for atleast 7 times.
Please guide me to resolve this issue and if there is a feedback for developers, they should try to resolve this issue in future updates.
    Thanks.

Hi and welcome to the BlackBerry Forums
I never hear this, but try this.
If you have all the correct data in outlook, my suggestion is wipe the device (all the data is erased) and synch the device again.
To wipe the device go to menu,  options, security options, general options, press menu, and wipe handheld.
If I help you with any inquire, thank you for click kudos in my post.

  • Firefox sync creates duplicate search/form history results

I have Firefox synced on 3 PCs and a laptop. Some of the sites I visit, sync creates multiple duplicates in form/search boxes. Two that I know of for sure are outlook/hotmail (the box you enter your e-mail address) and my bank website (where I enter my account name). For example, I would see 2 or 3 options to select the same e-mail address in the dropdown history box. If I go to delete all but one of them, it disappears completely the next time so I have zero options.
This also only happens on some of my computers. Some of them only have one option (which is how it should be).
Minor issue, but it's kind of bothersome.

I don't use any sync add ons. The add ons I use are flash video downloader and custom new tab.
The duplicates are only on my 'other' devices, not my main device (the one I use the most and the one I created my sync account on). I'll have to wait until I get time to go on my other devices to take a screenshot. For now, this is what I mean. Here is the outlook/hotmail sign in page:
    http://www.icts.canterbury.ac.nz/graphics/outlook.com%20login%20screen.JPG
When I press the down arrow in the account name box, I see 2-3 entries of the same e-mail address. Again, on my main PC, I would only see one entry of my e-mail address (like I should). This also happens on my bank website.
When I try to delete the duplicates and only keep one entry, the next time I visit the page, they're all gone. So it seems like there's some bug in the search/form history sync.

  • Iphone sync creates duplicates

AHHH Itunes syncing confuses me. First it created duplicates tracks on my Iphone when I synced it to my itunes library on my mac pro. Then it deleted, somewhat randomly it appears, music I had purchased on my mac form the itunes library there. I'm obviously not managing the settings regarding syncing very well. How do I delete the duplicated tracks on my Iphone?

Um... that does not contain "duplicates".
It's just a view that shows you everything that's in your other albums and events in one place...

  • HT2513 Older iCal calendars (used with MobileMe) now won't sync with iCloud without creating duplicates. How do I sync to my other devices without iCloud?

I've been using iCal for years for my business and have over 15 calendars on it (to color coordinate projects) and used to sync them with MobileMe.  Now that I've upgraded my mac and have Mountain Lion and can only use iCloud to sync Address Book, Notes etc - iCloud doesnt even acknowledge my 15+ calendars unless they are DUPLICATED.
I've turned OFF iCloud and tried to sync via iTunes telling it to sync to iphone/ipad from "Calendar on this Mac" - but it sees nothing.  My device Calendars are blank (iCloud off on them too).
    HELP!!!

I share a similar situation (usb iTunes sync with Outlook with my corporate laptop; personal calendar on icloud).
With IOS7, at first, iTunes/Windows does not propose Outlook sync anymore. I need to switch off calendar from iTunes to enable usual usb sync with Outlook. I had to sync it twice while checking "replace iphone data" to get a stable behaviour (like before) IOS7.When I try to re-enable icloud calendars, it proposes me to merge them...
I did not test merging so far...
IOS7 and iTunes 11.1 are not completely polished ;-)

  • How do I prevent/fix iCloud from creating duplicate CONTACTS "notes" and recurring CALENDAR items?

    I use a PC with Outlook 2010 at my office.  At home I use and iMac. My mobile devices are an iPad & iPhone.  I just upgraded all operating systems and switched from Mobile Me to iCloud.  Everything (new appointments, new contacts) seems to sync as it should with a couple of exceptions;
    1) In the "notes" sections of my CONTACTS I now have triplicates of all of my "notes" for each individual contact (with thousands of contacts it would be impossible to clean this up one at a time).  Does anyone know how to easily fix this so that I only have 1 set of notes for each contact?
    2) Regarding the CALENDARS...in Outlook and the other devices, I'm only running the iCloud calendars (all others are unchecked) however, there are multiple Calendars that seem to have been created.  I've deleted all calendars that aren't necessary or don't appear to be used, however in my iOS devices (iphone & ipad) when I tap the CALENDARS button to open the SHOW CALENDARS pane, I can scroll down and see a section that says "Other" and has a "Birthdays" calendar which is obviously pulling the data from Outlook.  This "birthday" calendar doesn't show up anywhere in Oulook.  95% of my contacts were originally created in Outlook and when known, I have put their birthdays, anniversaries, etc. in the corresponding fields.  Normally, this would create a recurring event/reminder in Outlook but now I have 2 to 4 of the same event in each device.  If I delete the redundant Birthdays/anniversaries, etc. (shown in grey & blue on my  calendar vs. another little icon of a birthday present) on the iOS devices the calendar on Outlook will no longer show these events (90% of the time I'm relying on my Outlook calendar at work for these reminders). I would like to be able to see the same data as only 1 occurence of each event across each of my devices. Any suggestions or help would be much appreciated.

The problem may be that the iphone is immediately syncing with icloud and losing the newly restored data.  You might turn off your router.  Once restored, turn off icloud on the device, turn on the router, then turn on the iphone.
(I'm going by memory on this, and that hasn't been too reliable lately.)

  • ICloud installation created duplicates in address book on all contacts.. how to correct?

After syncing my iPad, iPhone, and Mac with iCloud, all entries in my contacts list are duplicated. How do I get rid of the duplicate

  • Contacts- icloud sync + deleting duplicates?

I am ripping my hair out.
I have lived with duplicate contacts on my iphone for years.  Today I started to clear out the duplicates by hand.  But as soon as I would delete one duplicate contact on my iphone, I would be brought back to the list of contacts,  I would see the remaining contact that now does not have a duplicate, then there would be a loading icon in the top bar, and that contact would then vanish!
I quickly went to my macbook, turned off the wifi, and exported a copy of my address book to my desktop.
I turned wifi back on, on my computer, then navigated to the "Contacts" application that is syncing with icloud and saw that both duplicate contacts were also vanishing from here.  So, I sighed and, imported my saved list of contacts, to replace.   But alas!!! the contacts that I deleted by hand would display for one second, the list would refresh and the contacts would again vanish!!!!!
So, I navigated to icloud.com where my list looks ok. The duplicate contacts are lost here.  BUT there are no duplicates displaying on icloud.com.
How do I force icloud contacts to put preference on my desktop contacts.  Or what can I do? to stop this deletion of my important contacts?  Do I have to live with duplicates?

Thanks for trying to help oscarluke.  Yes I'm fully up-to-date with the latest version of IOS7.0.2 and no, I don't have any linked accounts.  My point, that Csound1 failed to understand, is that I don't even have my PC's Outlook contacts any more - the only address book I'm operating from is my iCloud one which my  iPhone, iPad and PC all sync from.  So logically when I directly edit an address in iCloud (on the iCloud website) they should all show that one, updated address.  As you posted in Feb, unfortunately my iPad and my iPhone just add a duplicate contact - a corrected version - but leave on the old uncorrected version next to it - even though iCloud only shows the latest, most up-to-date one.
I have linked my computer's email account to my phone and pad to receive my emails there but I have only linked it for mail and notes, not contacts.  I wonder if the problem is something to do with the hierarchy of which bit of kit updates what.  If I update a contact in my iCloud address book on Outlook and then hit the refresh button it updates my phone and iCloud.  But if I don't manually force Outlook to sync and update it like that straight away, then the next time I go into Outlook my PC contact has been 'updated' by my phone back to the old address even tho' the system is supposed to work both ways.
My phone seems to have the ultimate control, but as you said before, if I delete the incorrect address on my phone then anything to do with that contact vanishes and then they start vanishing from iCloud, my PC and iPad.  The only guaranteed way I can do it is to write down on a piece of paper (I can't believe I'm even typing this) the correct contact details, delete them from everywhere and then key them afresh on my phone.  As I have about 500 contacts I never seem to get very far with the job.
iCloud certainly works a lot better than the bad old days of MobileMe which I also suffered through, but sync is still far from perfect.  If you can think of anywhere else there might be a hidden link or changeable setting that I can try I'd welcome any advice.
As for Csound1, your advice is not helpful, and the comment you made with regard to my post about Outlook is wrong.  With regard to the first - there are no groups in my Contact app - only one long list of iCloud contacts called All Contacts.  And with regard to the second - when you link an SMTP email account through Outlook, iCloud takes over all your contacts and your Outlook address book vanishes.  Not only that, but because the Outlook database formats differently to the iCloud part of some addresses were chopped off so there are random street names and numbers missing.  I have had to make a contacts backup to keep on my desktop which I update from time to time because if I didn't and the Apple servers went down I would have no Contacts at all, anywhere.  In fact iCloud has made a total mess of my contacts and I wish I could figure out how to stop it starting with these wretched duplicates.

  • Syncing creates duplicate Notes

I backup and sync my iPad and 3G iPhone to my iTunes library on my MacBook Pro. And since my Mail, Contacts and iCal sync wirelessly through my MobileMe account, they work fine. But my Notes app, which syncs via USB cable, has created at least 8 duplicates of each note so far. On my iPhone, iPad and in the Notes in my Mac Mail.
Has anyone else had this issue? And has anyone found a solution?
    Thanks in advance.

Count me in. I create notes off line on my iPad (iOS 4.2) and sync only to iTunes by cable. Most notes get duplicated. I also sync an older iPod classic through iTunes.
I also noticed that the audio book I listen to has forgotten where I was when I played it on the iPod after syncing both iPad and iPad yesterday (both have the book on them).
It seems to me this behavior has started with the latest iTunes update(?)

  • ICloud sync causing duplicate entries...

I have an iPad2 that is configured (authorised) with my work computer.  I sync my Contacts, Calendars, Notes from Outlook to my iPad.  Please note that my work computer is Windows and is the primary computer I use (it is also synced to my work Blackberry - and that is seamless).
Recently, I purchased a MBP and authorised my iPad onto the MBP.  Thereafter, I enabled iCloud on both the MBP as well as the iPad.
Now, when I check Contacts / Calendar on my MBP, I see redundant entries (on My Mac, on ICloud - 3 times).
I have a personal Blackberry that I synced manually (only once thus far) with my MBP (through the BB Desktop Software).
Needless to say, I want just one set of entries so that life is easier.
I feel a bit lost and unable to figure out how to go about this.  How do I clean up and have one set of entries across my work computer (and thereby office Blackberry), iPad, MBP and personal Blackberry?

  • IPhoto-iPhone sync creates duplicate photos

Every time I sync my iphone with iPhoto, it duplicates photos. It's not photos that were taken with the iphone, but photos that I have imported from other sources, such as wallpaper images. Every week or so I go through and delete hundreds of duplicates. It does this even when specify NOT to import duplicates. Is there any way to stop this behavior?
    Thanks!

Try deleting the iPhoto preference file - quit iPhoto and delete it ("your user name" ==> library ==> preferences ==> com.apple.iPhoto.plist) launch iPhoto and reset any user preferences you have changed and if you have moved the location of the iPhoto library repoint to it

  • Facebook/Flickr sync creates duplicates

When syncing albums with Facebook or Flickr, I get duplicates of some picture with almost every sync! Some old photos that had been uploaded before are simply uploaded again. It seems that Aperture "downloads" the already uploaded versions of the pictures and then uploads them again. The worst part: the "downloaded" duplicate of the photo has the wrong date and I would usually delete it, BUT this version has all the comments and tags attached to it on Facebook/Flickr! So the only thing I can do right now is to delete the original from the Facebook album in Aperture and then end up with a photo with wrong date, which never updates when I edit the original in Aperture. I would also have to check for duplicates and delete them on EVERY sync. Is this a bug? Am I doing it the wrong way? How can I solve this?

It works but not before losing some info. Actually, iPhone does not recocgnize the FB's photos anymore as its. I mean, when you go to the original event from which you shared your photos, originally in the "More info" tab you should see that this photo is being shared in FB and you are able to see all the comments, "I like", etc... Now, after erasing the FB account and adding it again, iPhoto download those photos as FB's and doesn't link the internal photo with the FB's ones anymore. In fact, in Facebook tab of iPhoto you will see that the photo has been downloaded from FB. Well, it is better than nothing, but not as good as it should.
Hope you understood something of what I said.

  • Address book sync creates duplicate contacts imported from .cvs file

Contacts on my iPod are weird--there are duplicate entries for some people, but one of the duplicates contains only email addresses whereas the other has all the remaining info. Everything seems normal in Addresss Book--no duplicates, and all the info. is there. Not all of my contact entris have this this duplication/split info. problem. Those that have the problem were originally imported into Address Book from an Excel .cvs file. I also sync with a Motorola Razr and the same names were duplicated fully on the phone, with each entry having all the phone numbers that should have been synced. Anyone know what's going on or how to fix this?
