ICloud Sync time limit - deletes ical details

Hi
I've discovered a bug of sorts. If I have an event in iCal on both the iPhone and the Mac, then shut down the mac, after a yet undeterminable time period (like over night or a good 6 hours) if I change the details on the iPhone then start the mac up it reverts to the details on the mac and deletes all the info I've put in the iPhone.
This is quite annoying for me as I'm out and about all day sometimes just with the iPhone and entering a number of job details through out the day. When I get home and start up the mac it basically deletes everything I've enetered that day.
I also think that if you're not connected to the internet all day on the mac the same thing happens and if you enter a similar event details,(namely the same time) independently then it won't recognise that it's the same event and it doesn't show up as an event on the other device.
Any ideas?
Thanks
Dave

A little more research, and I found the answer. It seems that iCloud does not like duplicate events, even on different calendars (this is actually a good thing).
The solution is to export the data, delete the calendar, then import into my archive calendar.

  • Running iCloud every time I delete old bookmarks in my menubar they come right back.

Running iCloud every time I delete old bookmarks in my menubar they come right back. Have tried to delete the bookmarks on all my macs. iCloud keeps putting the bookmarks back on my bookmark bar.

This took me a alot of playing around to get things working correctly. I was having the exact same duplication issues everyone else was having. Here's how I managed to get things working correctly.
    1. Turn off bookmark syncing on every single OS X and iOS 5 device you own.
    2. Select a "master" computer where you can clean up your bookmarks. Export your current bookmarks to play it safe.
    3. Now clean up your bookmarks so they are setup exactly how you want them. While you're doing this make sure you deleted every single "folder" listed in the bookmarks pane on the left side of the browser window. The actual book marks that are displayed are the ones listed under the "collections" line. The blue extras being sync from iCloud.
    4. Exported the "clean" bookmarks.
    5. Turn on iCloud bookmarks syncing and agree to the merge.
    6. Go to every other OS X and iOS device and delete bookmark on all these devices.
    7. By now the only thing on iCloud will be the cleaned up bookmarks from the "master" computer. Turn on iCloud bookmarks syncing on one of your devices and wait for the bookmarks to sync.
    8. Once you know that the second device has synced correctly (it will if you deleted all the extra stuff as directed) then try your next device and continue with all your remaining devices.
This will work as you expect it to as long as you clean EVERYTHING out of the folder collections from the "master" computer. From this point forward things will sync nicely.
    Hope this helps!

  • How to change iCloud primary account without deleting ical entries on existing primary account?

Hi, I've got a bit confused and befuddled with my icloud account(s), as I had a MobileMe account before icloud and an itunes / Apple account.  On my iphone and ipad, I've set up icloud on my itunes / Apple account details, which means I have a photo stream that works between these two devices. I also have something silly like 7 ical calendars on my iphone / ipad; two on an icloud account under the same log-in as my itunes, one on my gmail email account (which is the email account that is also my itunes / Apple account name) and four on a @me.com account I acquired from the old MobileMe days.  Although not perfect, it's worked ok for a while, until I wanted to move photos from iphoto on my mac to my photo stream, and realised I had two photo stream accounts, and the one linked to my mac wouldn't enable photos to be seen on my iphone or ipad.
So I read a lot of stuff on here and decided I needed to change my primary icloud on my mac, ensuring it was my itunes account rather than my icloud account. I did this last night and all the diary entries in my mac ical disappeared. I then went back and deleted the itunes account details as my primary account and reinstalled the icloud details. On doing this, I realised I only have four calendars in my mac ical - and these are all on my @me.com account, none of the gmail calendars appear.
What I'd like to do, if possible, is migrate all my @me.com calendars and photo stream into one icloud account, using my itunes log-in details. This will, hopefully, mean I can cut down on the number of calendars on my iphone and ipads, ensure everything synchs across the mobile devices and my mac, and ensure I can use photo stream across all three.  Can anyone suggest how I can do this please?

When you delete an iCloud account from a device, that has no effect on the iCloud accounts on other devices or the content in that iCloud account. You are just deleting that account from that particular device.
Her content will still be in iCloud.

  • ICloud sync with Outlook deleted recent and upcoming appointments

I recently decided to enable iCloud Sync on my iPhone, and more recently I also enabled it on Outlook.  It had been a while since I synced my phone to my computer, but the result ended up being that when I enabled iCloud Sync in Outlook, it deleted all appointments I had scheduled since I last synced to my computer.
Is there any way to get these back?

  • ICal audio stream alarm time limit

I have set up an internet radio schedule in iCal using Automatot scripts as iCal alarms. However when iCal opens a stream in Windows media player ths stream does not stop once the time limit in iCal is reached, for instance when I want that stream to stop and a new stream to open in iTunes.
Anybody know how to set a time limit either in the original Automator workflow or in iCal that will stop a WMP stream?
    Thanks
    Michael Irvine

Definitely a code problem. You have not lived until your phone is blatting stridently as you are meeting with a patient. It has happened so frequently I cannot bring my phone into my office and need it for work.
According to this thread this issue has been in existence since at least 2013. So MAJORLY annoying bug and has been around for over a years and STILL not addressed. How do I know?
I was running a 4 and this was a problem on it, one I attributed to its being a technological dinosaur. I recently upgraded to the iPhone6+ & guess what? Problem is there too. Yes I have powered it on & off, done hard and soft reset. Yes I wiped BOTH phones. Yes I made sure BOTH phones were updated to the most recent software. Yes I made sure my MBl had the most recent version of iTunes, synched, tried wiping iTunes from MBP then reinstalling & resynching, wiped phones (again) and resynched. Checked all settings for alarm in "settings" and "alarm". After all the above, problem still there. Maybe should address the existing problems before releasing a new version? Last 4 years in my personal (extremely expensive) experience Apple has been taking the Microsoft approach of reseae it bugs & all.
I remember when Apple really stood behind their products -- I sent much business your way back then -- and their customer satisfaction was the first priority (well after making cool stuff). Now? Their behavior has me, a former Apple geek, feeling EXTREMELY disillusioned (sold me several very expensive defective products that never worked & they never fixed just offered to sell me another $5,000 paperweight). The above problem -- a minor one, yes, but to spend this much $$$?!? -- just illustrates that from big to small, the mind set has changed drastically. [End Rant -- Sorry, so frustrated with Apple in general could not help myself -- have a beautiful day & may your alarms always work!]

  • ICloud is randomly deleting iCal entries

At several points over the past week, I thought my calendar appeared unusually "thinned out". Then last night I noticed an appointment I had been delaying for a while was nowhere to be seen.
At first I thought it may be somewhere on my calendar, a week back or so.  This is because I had been rescheduling that appointment often, so I had moved it back, a day here and a day there, every week for the past month or so. I knew the exact title of the entry so I did a search for it.
It was gone. Apparently deleted. I refreshed everything and even checked my iPad & iPhone calendars for it Nothing...
I blamed myself, re-created the entry, and moved on. At this time I also made several new entries and planned my week. Then today I went back to my calendar on my Mac, opened iCal, saw the appointments for today, that I entered last night, disappear before my very eyes. I then picked up my iPhone to view the calendar there, and they were gone.
Next I picked up my iPad and turned off Wi-Fi as quickly as possible. Once Wi-Fi was disconnected and I was no longer online, I opened iCal and there were my appointments. There were five different instances of appointments scheduled last night that we're now deleted and gone. This is important because it rules out an accidental deletion. I took a screen grab to preserve my data, and went looking for answers. I found none.
I'm freaked out. I live & die by my iCal and I'm worried this has happened before where maybe I didn't notice.
The only recent change I can possibly link to this iCloud synced iCal, is that I allowed an app called FlightTrack Pro to "Sync with iCloud". Which is relatively reassuring, only because it was a fairly new addition, therefore decreasing the likelihood that there were problems in the past. IF its this access causing the deletions.
    Any ideas?

I had the exact same thing happen several times. I too independently concluded that it could only be the updated FlightTrack Pro App feature as you stated. It was the only new thing on my devices.  My Apple tech support expert told me to read your entry. I agree and disabled the 'SYnc with iCloud' feature. But I'm still allowing the 'SYnc with Calendar' option. But if the iCal entries that I just made disappear again, I will then disable that button on FT Pro. A major pain.

  • I created a new apple id account so that I didnt have to share my icloud with my brother, if i plug my phone into my computer onto my new account and sync it, then delete my old icloud from my phone will my new icloud be backed up and have all my pics ect

I've just created this new apple ID account and i need to know that if i plug my phone into my computer and sync my phone onto my new account, then delete my old icloud and apple account from my phone will my things be backed up onto my new icloud? such as my pictures notes contacts music ect... ?

Providing your Apple ID is not a .me or a .Mac address, you can change it with Apple and continue to use your account.
Start here, change your country if necessary and go to manage your account.
Once who have done this you can then correct it on your mobile device.
In order to change your Apple ID or password for your iCloud account on your iOS device, you need to delete the account from your iOS device first, then add it back using your updated details. (Settings > iCloud, scroll down and hit "Delete Account")
When you delete your account, all the data that is synced with iCloud will also be deleted from the device (but not from iCloud), but will be synced back to your device when you login again.
If however, your Apple ID was a .me or a .Mac address, then you will need to create a new account, follow the instructions above for deleting your account on your mobile device and then tap the "create Apple ID" button to create a new account.

  • Ical bug: updates to outlook events with iCloud sync do not work

I have a bug that needs to be submitted to Apple Developers. I am not sure that this is the correct forum, but here goes.
I have a calendar that syncs from my Mac to iCloud. If I get a calendar invite from someone using outlook, everything works fine. I accept the invite and it is added to ical (6) and syncs with the iCloud calendar.
Now if I get an update to the invite - especially a change of time, the local version on my mac updates to the changed event. Up to now everything is fine, but as soon as iCal syncs with iCloud, the iCloud server thinks that I am trying to change an event that someone else is the organiser of. It then disallows the update. This in turn pops an error up on my mac - 'The server responded: “403” to operation CalDAVWriteEntityQueueableOperation'.
I have looked for workarounds/fixes but believe that none exist and that this is a core bug with iCal/iCloud sync and the way it tries to prevent updates to meetings organised by another party.

    Hello vmepani
maybe I can suggest to you a way to circumvent the problem.
Why are you keeping a local Calendar copy under "my Mac"?
I do have my calendar shared through iCloud between my Mac Mountain Lion, the iPhone and the iPad (both alread IOS7) but don't need to keep any local copy of it in neither device. Anyway I'm able to see the calendar on each device even if I'm offline.
That's way I never had the problem you mentioned.
Not sure if this would work for you as well.
    cheers
    gg

  • Server Error Each Time I open iCal on iMac, no trouble on iCloud

There is an event that opens up each time I open iCal on the iMac.I get a message, "The Server Responded with an Error" followed by the event.  I copied the info from a Facebook post to create the event, but I can't seem to delete it or get rid of the event; iCal is frozen and I have to forcequit each time. There is no trouble on my iPhone, iPad, or iCloud. I don't know how to find this event file to delete or clear it out. I've searched under .ics files, but they are all from 2013, seems nothing from this year.
    Any suggestions?
    Thanks,
    Jennie

    Jennie,
Disconnect your computer from your internet connection.
From the  Menu, select Force Quit...>Calendar.
Paste this text ~/Library into the Finder>Go>Go to Folder...window and select "Go." This will open the Users Library Folder.
Then open the Calendars Folder in that Library Folder, and move any any files with "Cache" listed in the name field to your Desktop.
Next open the Preferences Folder in the same Library Folder, and move the com.apple.iCal.plist file to the Desktop.
Log out/in or restart, and open Calendar.

  • After an erroneous contacts delete on the mac, they've been removed from icloud and all the synced devices. I was able to restore the contacts from a backup, but since the iCloud version is newer than the backuped one, they are deleted every iCloud sync

After an erroneous contacts delete on the mac, they've been removed from iCloud and all the synced devices.
I was able to restore the contacts from a backup, but since the iCloud version is newer than the backuped one, they are deleted every iCloud sync.
Now I have an iPhone with the contacts and iCloud deactivated, but I lost all the contacts on the Mac and the iPad.
There is a way to tell iCloud "restart using the contacts I have on this device"?

An iCloud backup will save the state of your Camera Roll at the time of the backup but, if you delete photos from the Camera Roll, they will not be in the next backup taken.
If you are using the iCloud Photo Library (beta) read this FAQ which will tell you what happens when you delete photos from one of the devices sharing the Photo Library.
iCloud Photo Library beta FAQ - Apple Support
    The relevant section is:
How does iCloud delete photos and videos from iCloud Photo Library?
Deleting a photo or video from your Photos app will also remove the item from iCloud Photo Library and from your iCloud storage allocation. Photos and videos you remove can be recovered from the Recently Deleted album for 30 days. After 30 days, your content will be removed from the Recently Deleted album. Photos are backed up on our servers for up to 30 days after they're deleted from the Photos app. If you need to recover these photos during that time, contact Apple Support.

  • Can I force sync *to* iCloud? All contacts delete themselves.

In MobileMe, you could force a sync in the direction you needed, but I don't see any way of doing that with iCloud.
For some reason, the first problem was that if any contact was in a group, that contact disappeared. But I have a backup made with the Address Book export feature. (I make a backup every couple of days. I distrust syncing where I can't force the direction.)  I deleted all my contacts on the Mac, imported the backup, and everything including contacts groups is back to normal ... but only for about 20 seconds.  During that few seconds where the Mac's Address Book is empty, the iCloud address book emptied itself as well.
Since the Contacts at iCloud is also empty, it appears that the syncing mechanism assumes that iCloud is correct, and deletes everything on my Mac and iPhone.
One solution *might* be to disable iCloud, turn MobileMe back on, import contacts, then sync upward to MobileMe. Then, switch back over to iCloud.  But before I try that, does anyone know of a more elegant solution that forces my Mac to be the base data and force an upload to iCloud?

    Tim Murray2 wrote:
Update: It appears the iCloud preferences are lying to you. In the preferences I disabled syching of contacts, but contacts still disappear after an import. The only way to retain them is to turn off internet access. BUT, about 20 seconds after I reattach to the internet, my contacts disappear.
Further, upon import and with no internet connection, the Address Book section that populates itself is the iCloud > All iCloud section. The "All on My Mac" is empty. This clearly isn't correct.
This clearly is correct, assuming that you want iCloud to handle your contacts, 'On my Mac ' does not sync to iCloud (actually nothing does, you subscribe to your account in iCloud, not sync to it, Google CardDav for a fuller explanation)
If you want your contacts in the On my Mac account copy them there from iCloud, but they will not distribute to any other devices that way, if you want them on multiple devices (like an iPhone) then they have to be in iCloud (or you could sync with a wire via iTunes). Or use a different service.

    It still didn't work...
Within this commonfiles\apple folder, there is only one folder, labeled "Internet Services." Within this folder, there are 6 folders, labeled:
    APLZOD.resources
    BookmarkDAV_client.resources
    CoreDAV.resources
    iCloud.resources
    iCloudServices.resources
    ShellStreams.resources
Within all but CoreDAV and BookmarkDAV_client, there are multiple different folders, all labeled starting with a two letter (acronym I believe, for different languages) then .lproj (for example, a folder is labeled "ar.lproj".
In each of the folders of APLZOD.resources, there is a file labeled "APLZODlocalized.dll."
In all of the folders containing the multiple .lproj folders, there are likewise "name"localized.dll files contained.
In the BookmarkDAV_client and Core DAV folders, they each contain only one file, "Info.plist"
I attempted to delete all of these files, and still, the FileAssassin could not delete them. I unlocked one of them for instance, and I tried to delete the file myself (thru windows explorer and just clicking delete), and I still had the same issue of coming eventually to the window requesting me to "try again" to have permission.
What can I do?? I'd like to avoid Unlocker, but if it really is a reliable and SAFE program, and someone knows a SAFE place to download it from, I'd appreciate it very much so!!
    thanks!!

How can I restore my data from iCal? I didn't make any backup, but I use  time machine with an external HD. I deleted iCal when I deleted my gmail account. I have tried to restore, but I can only restore the iCal software and not the data.

    So what is your question?
If you forgot your encryption password:
Warning: Make sure it's a password you will remember or write it down for safekeeping. If you encrypt an iPhone backup in iTunes and forget your password, you can't restore from backup and your data will be unrecoverable.
If you can't remember the password and want to start again, you must perform a full software restore and chooseset up as a new device when iTunes prompts you to select the backup from which to restore.

You can't. Why on earth would you attempt to manage 2500 emails with setting up a folder structure or some means of doing so? Simply keeping them in an single inbox is not realistic, no matter what email client you use.
