  • ICloud mail problem with 10.8

    Hi folks,
having updated today to OS 10.8 and encountered a problem to get my icloud e-mail work in Mail 6.2.
As I found on the support page here it seems that others had these problems as well for weeks.
I tried to sign out and in from icloud in the system preferences, trying to activate mail there did not work ("iCloud Mail couldn't be enabled from the iCloud Preference Pane.").
Having also deleted the icloud mail in Mail 6.2 and added it again several times without success.
It seems to me that the greyed "incoming mail server" field is resonsible for this as discussed several times here. However, is there any sloution available?
BTW iphone and ipad both working fine...
    many thanks for your help
    Alfred

Make note of the information in the three sections of the iCloud mail preferences, Account Information, Mailbox Behaviors and Advanced.  Then delete the account and add it back again.  See if that won't jump start the account.
This is what my Advanced pane looks like:
Check that first to see if yours is the same.  If not change it an try again before deleting the account and adding it back.

  • Mail problem on iCloud

My Macbook running 10.7.5 no longer lets Mail access my me.com and iCloud.com mail account.   The incoming server box is "greyed out".   Any suggestions please?
The problem arose about two weeks ago, and I have been unable to solve it.
I should add that Mail has worked fine with mobile me for several years, and continues to work fine on my iPad and iPhone.    I just can't send or receive on my MacBook using iCloud, but my Gmail account continues to be available on all three devices.
    Appreciate any help or suggestions.

Thanks Paul.    I swallowed hard, and after saving 4100 emails in a new 296 Mb file on my hard drive, I deleted my Apple Mail me.com account, and after shutting down and rebooting I made a new iCloud.com account.    It did pick up all the folders and their messages as well as the several hundred which had come through on my iPad in the meantime.
    Really appreciate your help!

  • I am having problems getting into ICloud and Mail etc from System Preferences.  Do I have a virus or malware problem?

A few months ago, I had a problem with my Mail app going offline constantly.  Since then, for no apparent reason, that problem has gone away and another has taken its place.  Now I cannot get into ICloud or Mail, etc. from my System Preferences on my MacBook Pro.  Do I have a virus or malware?  Should I immediately take my notebook in for repair or can I wait a couple of weeks until I return home?

Probably not a virus or malware, as both are relatively rare on Macs.
Probably not a hardware problem that requires "repair".
This is probably a software problem that can be fixed with a little thought and routine maintenance maneuvers and troubleshooting.
Here are some basic troubleshooting and maintenance maneuvers:
    1. restarting your computer
    2. repairing your hard drive When to Run First Aid in Mountain Lion's Disk Utility - For Dummies
    3. repairing permissions About Disk Utility's Repair Disk Permissions feature
    4. starting up in safe mode OS X Mountain Lion: Start up in safe mode
    5. a test user account Isolating an issue by using another user account
If you are not comfortable with this then you could take it in to your local "geniuses" at the Apple store. You could certainly wait a few weeks. Make sure you have a backup of any important documents that you don't want to lose, first.

  • HT4864 Thank you! This may sound lame but are these instructions for the blackberry? I'm receiving iCloud emails without problems on my MacBook Pro and I'd rather not mess w/ settings there.

Thank you! This may sound lame but are these instructions for my blackberry? I'm receiving iCloud emails without problems on my MacBook Pro and I'd rather not mess w/ settings there. Thanks again!

You don't need to start a new thread to continue a conversation, you can just tack onto the original one. The settings I referred you to are for the Blackberry, since that's the device which is not receiving mail: anything which is working can be left alone.

  • What's happening with iCloud e-mail?

A couple of weeks ago my iCloud e-mail address (@mac.com) went down for 5 days. Apple told me at the time that others had the same problem and that they would straighten it out which they did but all e-mails sent to me during that time bounced back to the senders.   My e-mail went down again this morning and has not returned.  Are others having the same problem?  What's going on?
    Thanks.

Unfortunately according to Apple support, I need to contact every provider asking them why they are blocking MY email address particularly... (including gmail, hotmail, msn, orange, etc.)
Which is obviously NOT a solution...
Or, it may be a virus (I've run an antivirus and none was reported)
So my only solution is to move to another provider

  • HT4864 iCloud e-mail not working in Outlook

My iCloud e-mail suddenly stopped working in Outlook. I verified all of the settings and it still won't connect. I can't use iCloud control panel as I need two versions of Outlook.

    Hi,
Yes, I do have version 12 (and 9,10 & 11) - I tend to have lots of testing versions so that I can see what others are talking about when they have problems.
Going from 10 to 12, at first I didn't like the new light backgrounds but I am now getting used to it. I think that the organizer has now better facilities providing you are using the tagging system. So far, the editor seems to be slightly better.
Orginally I wasn't going to upgrade from version 11 because I didn't see many benefits for me but I gave in after a while. The jump from 10 to 12 would probably be a good value.
    Do you like version 12?
Now to be honest, I have changed over to Lightroom for organizing my images and only use the Elements Editor to do the processing that I can't do with Lightroom. I find that was much better for me once I had picked up the basics of Lightroom.

  • Attachment on iCloud VS Mail 7

Why does iCloud online mail shows attachments file (with name, size etc) on top of the email (clicking "More" or clicking the "paper clip" icon) and Mail 7 instead, still, showing you just a paper clip icon and the attachment files all the way down... scrolling and scrolling to find them.
Or that "hover" function that shows that micro-icon that clicking it, finally shows a list of attachments... is that all the new achievemnt?
Why is there not a "More" option that set once for good, all the attachments visible, as in iCloud online?

    Hi
you may check SAP note 1035644. It says
    Symptom
If you display an HTML attachment of a document in the non-control-based display (for example in transaction SO01x), the system issues the error message "The document does not exist" and the process terminates.
    Other terms
    HTM, HTML, attachment, SO01x
    Reason and Prerequisites
This problem is caused by a program error.
    Solution
The Outlook replacement with Trojan warning may be a result of your OUTLOOK security and virus scan settings and/or the HTML contents. Try to send the attachment manually to one of your outlook receipients and see what happens.

  • Can;t set up iCloud in Mail with Mavericks

    Hi,
I am unable to set up icloud in mail.  II used migration assistant tto migrate from an older macbook pro running mavericks to a new one and for some reason there was an issue with iCloud Mail.  I then tried to add the account and despite no error messages, it fails to display in Mail.
I am able to set up other accounts like Gmail and Exchange and they behave properly.  I have the latest version of Mail v7 (updated) and have successfully set up iCloud using a test account on my mac.  This means that the problem is user specific. I have tried removing mail dir in library and plists in preferences to set up mail again but with no luck.
    Does anyone have any ideas?
    Thanks

    Hello,
I just got a Mac for a first time and I'm trying to configure Mail 3.5 with my gmail account and even after having followed all the steps seen on this forum, I just can't do it. The messages that come up are:
"The IMAP server "imap.gmail.com" is not responding. Try checking the network connection, and that the server name is correct. Otherwise, the server might be temporarily unavailable. If you continue, you might not be able to receive messages"
    AND
"The SMTP server "smtp.gmail.com" is not responding. Try checking the network connection, and that the server name is correct. Otherwise, the server might be temporarily unavailable. If you continue, you might not be able to send messages"
it might be very basic but I can't manage. Can anyone help??
    Thanks in advance!!

  • Change my Apple ID e-mail address to my new iCloud e-mail?

I've had an Apple ID account for many many years and it was a "hotmail" account. I recently created a new iCloud e-mail address (@me.com) address and tried to change the current (hotmail) address to the new (@me.com) address but an error message comes stating "You cannot create an Apple ID using a MobileMe account. If this is your email address, it is also your Apple ID". I searched the problem and appreantly it's a very common issue. I realize it is impossible at the current time to have this issue resolved, but are there any options? I don't want to use my current hotmail account anymore! But Apple keeps sending my receipts and uses my current hotmail account for communication. What to do? Could I at least let Apple use my (@me.com) address to receive iTunes receipts and notifications? It's good that I could use my iCloud e-mail to log in but the hotmail account still appears as my primary e-mail address. Please help. Thanks.

Unfortunately you can not change the primary address to an existing me.com or mac.com email address, but you can change your hotmail address to an other email address from another provider (like gmail, yahoo, gmx) and setup this account to forward all emails to your me.com address.
If you want an Apple ID with a me.com primary address. Then you will have to sign up again to create a new account. In this case you have to choose "free me.com address..." during the set up process. But note that you have no option to megre accounts, your former purchases will stay with your old Apple ID.

  • TS3988 what is the iCloud incoming mail server setting?

what is the iCloud incoming mail server setting?

imap.mail.me.com - but you shoudn't need to enter this manually. If you are having problems, sign out in System Preferences>iCloud, then sign back in again and enable Mail in the checklist. Your data will disappear from your Mac when you sign out but will return when you sign back in.

  • Why do I not receive iCloud e-mails when there is a specific group of "To:" addresses in the body of an e-mail

I noticed this when I started my iCloud e-mail account a few months ago. I am not receiving iCloud e-mails when there is a specific group of "To:" addresses in the body of an e-mail. I can receive the e-mail on my outlook & local cable providor e-mail accounts with all of the addresses listed. If I strip out the "To:" addresses and send it from my local cable providor e-mail account to my iCloud e-mail account than I will receive the e-mail in my iCloud account (minus all of the "To:" addresses that are in the body of the e-mail. This has caused me to miss a lot of e-mails.
Following is one of the e-mail that I can send from my cable providor account and not receive it in iCloud. If I strip out all of the "To:" addresses I will receive it in iCloud. I have a case open with Apple but it is not going anywhere. This occurs from multiple sending internet service providors (ISP's) so I think it's an Apple iCloud e-mail processing issue.

I've been having a very similar problem to what ziemsen describes, for about a week now. The Mail app has stopped delivering new messages to the Inbox, even though I can view the newly incoming messages on the server via Webmail. I am able to send email through Mail with this email account, and as for the other email accounts that I have on Mail (which are also hosted by the same server), I am able to both receive and send email with no problem.
None of the mail settings have been changed, so how this happened all of a sudden is very puzzling. I have checked Account Info on the problem account - Mail recognizes that there are messages that are on the server yet to be downloaded, but it won't download them.
I've checked what other users have suggested here in the Discussions Forum, and tried: 1) deleting the problem Mail account from Mail and re-adding it; 2) creating a new machine User account and setting up Mail with that User; 3) setting up Mail on another machine; 4) archiving and re-installing OS, and even 5) wiping the HD entirely and reinstalling the OS. None of these have worked.
Ernie, your suggestion of deleting the MessageUidsAlreadyDownloaded file sounded like the solution to the problem, so I just tried it - but to no avail. Mail delivers messages that are on the server to my Inbox up until the same point that it always stops at, and there are almost 1000 new messages since then.
I am pretty lost at this point - I have no idea what else I can possibly do to resolve this problem. The strange thing is, when I tested my email accounts on Microsoft Entourage and Mozilla Thunderbird, they don't have this problem - both deliver all of my incoming mail. I may have no choice but to switch to one or the other at this point, but I'm attached to Mail and would really like to continue using it if I can. Any advice would be much much appreciated.
    very best,
    biteringo
