Icloud video storage

Can I delete videos from iPad (due to filling up memory with baby videos we are taking) and still have them saved and accessible in iCloud?

No.  Videos are only contained in your iCoud backup, which isn't always reliable and requires that you restore your iPad to the entire backup to access them.  To save your photos and videos, import them to your computer as eplained here: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4083.  After importing them you will be given the option to delet them from your iPad.

  • HT4436 Icloud video storage?

I have some purchased videos stored on icloud that I'd like to deleterious free up storage.  How do I do this?

Anything you purchase form the iTunes, App, or iBooks stores is stored in the store itself, which is 'in the cloud" in that these are internet only based stores.  But purchased items are not stored in your personal iCloud accounts storage allocation.
On your iOS device, go to your iCloud account in Settings, then tap on the "Storage & Backup" near the bottom, and select the "Manage Storage" on the next screen.  Anything and everything actually residing in your personal iCloud account's storage will be shown there, and you can delete things from there.

Where do I go to get a refund or to cancel my iCloud additional storage? I just bought additional storage this afternoon and then found out I can't use it for videos and apps so I now don't need the additional storage. How do I cancel and get a refund?

  • I share a an apple id with my kids. We all use the same credit card for purchases.  Is it possible for only me to use the icloud online storage without making this available or visible to the kids?

My kids and I all use the same credit card and password for app and music purchases.   I'm assuming we all use the same apple ID too. (not sure) We can share apps and music although we all have our own itunes libraries. Is it possible for only me to use the icloud online storage without making this available or visible to the kids or do we all have our own storage?

I just checked and they have already sucked up all my online storage.  Ahhh techy teens!  I think I will just leave it at that and back my own stuff up on my computer. Less confusing
Thanks for all the help!  I am definitely more educated now and I'm off to check that cc bill too.

  • Can you share iCloud drive storage with family members?

Seems like this would be a common question but Apple Support search came up empty. So, can you share iCloud drive storage with family members?

    Welcome to the Apple Community.
You can share they space if they all use the same Apple ID, but that's not really a good idea, because you'll then share contacts, calendars, photos etc etc.

  • Can two different itunes accounts share one purchased icloud backup storage?

My husband and I each have an iTunes account, I purchased 25GB of memory for my iPad and iPhone iCloud backup for the year and am only using about 5 of that.  He is out of free iCloud memory for his iPad and iPhone and I would like him to be able to take advantage of what I've purchased.  Is that possible, if so how?

The only way for him to share your iCloud account storage is for him to share you iCloud account.  However, if he does, any data he syncs with the account will be merged with yours and will appear on all your devices.  Also, you would share the same photo stream and iCloud email account.

  • How can I use iCloud for storage without duplication problems?

I recently set up iCloud to use on my Mac and PC.  With the exception of a single data file that I have stored in the cloud (as a working data file) that I use both on my Mac and PC....I want to use the rest of my 20 gigs of space on iCloud for storage/backup purposes only.  However, I have very little experience with iCloud; and it doesn't seem entirely intuitive to use iCloud.
For example, if I store all of my music and pictures on iCloud, how do I stop Itunes and iphoto from duplicating the results of each music and picture file in those programs?  I ask this question because I have seen iTunes act up way too many times (in other circumstances) when it creates duplicate music files.
Just to be clear, I want everything to remain on my local hard drive.  I only want to use iCloud for storage/backup only.  So, again, how do I stop iTunes and iPhoto from reading music and photo files once I successfully get them on iCloud?  (I am thinking I have to hide the archived files once I get them in iCloud, but unsure about how I go about doing that).  And here's my second question.  To upload my personal music and picture files to iCloud, can I simply drag and drop them into the iCloud drive on my computer and assume they will be successfully uploaded?
My second question seems kind of basic too.  But, once again, iCloud does not seem entirely intuitive to use for a beginner.  For example, I recently purchased some music from the Itunes store.  And while I have it downloaded on my harddrive (like I wanted it)......I don't see it on the iCloud drive (on my computer)....nor do I see it when I log into icloud.com on the web site.  Thanks for any replies.

If you have a Mac signed into your account running iPhoto, you might want to check iPhoto>Preferences>iCloud to make sure Automatic Upload isn't checked.  If it is checked, all new photos added to iPhoto are automatically added to your photo stream.

  • Can I use two Time Capsules? one as an extension of my laptop (for music and video storage) and the other one to back up everything from the laptop and  Time Capsule (for music and videos)

Can I use two Time Capsules? one as an extension of my laptop (for music and video storage) and the other one to back up everything from the laptop and  Time Capsule (for music and videos)

Not via Time Machine.   It cannot back up from a network location.
The 3rd-party apps CarbonCopyCloner and ChronoSync may be workable alternatives.
EDIT:  And, if you're going to do that, you could back up from the Time Capsule to a USB drive connected to the TC's USB port.  Second TC not required.

After activating iCloud, "video" no longer works on my iPhone and iPad.  How can I reactivate "video"?

Which part of video isn't working, playback or recording, could you please provide a little more information.

  • What is the best way to set up an external drive for video storage

What is the best way to set up an external drive for video storage?

Check the formatting. It need to be formatted as Mac OS Extended (journaled). This is also known as HFS+.
FAT32 and NTFS formatting will not work with iMovie.
If necessary, you can reformat using Disk Utility.
Make one large partition. No need for multiple partitions.
Do moves or copies to the external drive through iMovie as detailed in iMovie Help. If you move Events in the Finder, they may become unlinked from the projects that use them.

Thanks John for the suggestion.  I was finally able to dwonload the newest drivers today when I signed on.  Seems like if you let one day go by Software Update will look at your version of the driver and will finally let you download the newest.  That did not help.  Nothing but communication errors.  It would not even let me load the the new driver as it would no longer ever see the printer.
Yesterday, for further explanation, I was working at the computer when I heard the printer chime a few times.  When I looked over the green light, which normally signals it is receiving a file to print, was flashing away.  I was doing nothing and I finally had to turn it off.  I spoke with another techie friend who is a big Mac user and has the same printer and he suggested it may be the USB circuit.  This printer has been on for 5 years with a few days off.  We have concluded the circuits are past their useful life and I will soon send the printer to be recycled somewhere.  A new printer is on the way as I need this device.
Again, thank you for your suggestion and I will mark this solved due to mechanical failure.

  • External storage for early 08 mac pro for video storage and editing

    Early 08 Mac Pro mod 3.1, 2x Intel 2.8 Quad Core Processors. Bus speed 1.6 Ghz.  10 GB DDR2 FB-Dimm 800 MHz. USB2, Firewire 400, 800. ATI Radeon HD 2600 PCIe 256 mbVRAM.  Currently running OS 10.6.8.
I use machine for photo and video storage and editing. I tried using 2x 3TB and 2x1TB HDD internally ( 8 TB total).  All are Seagate Barracuda SATA 7200.  Experienced constant spinning wheel and lockup requiring manual shutdown.  I had upgraded to Lion and to Maverick.  Did not help so I did a clean install of primary with  Snow Leopard and did not install past 10.6.8.  Works now if I don’t exceed 3.5 TB internally.  I also discovered that my Disk Permissions experienced voluminous corruption that could not be repaired if I installed  Java for Mac OS 10.6 Update 17 as suggested each time I check for software updates.
I need to be able to have a total of about six TBs available in my system for storage and editing of video via Imovie. I don’t know the maximum of HDD storage that can be used in the four internal bays without causing lockup and corruption. If 3.5 TB is about the max, then I would like to have some ability to have external storage via firewire 800 if that would facility fast enough transfer for either video edition and or playback. I don’t know if thunderbolt can be installed via PCI card. I could add a SATA PCI card.  However, I assume that would cause the same problem as experienced with 8 TBs installed internally in the four bays.
    I would appreciate any suggestions.

Do you mean 2x2TB and 2x3TB for a total internal capacity of 10TBs?  Are you running Snow Leopard or something else? Actually, I took it to an authorized repair facility who ran checks and said nothing is wrong with the hardware.
Yes, I've got a total of to TB and I'm running Snow Leopard.  If your hardware checks out, that pretty much makes it a software problem,,,  reinstall the OS?
Does the High Point Technologies SATA3 PCIe connect to eternal drive enclosures or does it somehow connect to drives in some of your four internal bays?
Highpoint makes several RocketRAID 2700 series SATA3 controllers for Mac with external mini-SAS connectors, probably the cleanest/least expensive external hook-up. They also offer a combo internal/external board that (for marketing reasons) is listed as not working for internals with Mac Pro.  I believe that this is due to pressure from Apple (who apparently does some business with High Point Tech) but to the best of my knowledge it will. Technically, the "not supported" statement is true since all the internal bays are tied to the motherboard SATA 2 controller, but this can be remedied with a special cable.  HOWEVER... the boards are not bootable, so your system disk needs to be on the motherboard controller.
In truth, I bought one of their 8-port "internal only" boards designated for PC only and flashed it so the Mac Pro sees it as a 2722 board, so I have 8 internal ports.  I'm not recommending you do the same unless you're pretty geeky, but the 2721 would give you half-and-half or the 2722 would give you 8 external with no mods to the board.

  • HT1349 What is the point of iCloud online storage?

Really, I paid for iCloud online storage, 20gb's worth and found out after purchase that it dosn't do anything. The only thing it does is store backup's and a few other little things. You can't use it for anything usful like use it to download apps, or even just app updates, my iPad is only a 16gb and it keeps running out of storage doing app updates, or OS updates, I use my iPad for work, and I require certain apps to do what is required, I had to deleted 4 of these apps just to do a software update, it is rediculess I though the whole point of online storage was to limit these problem, I'm very nearly on the verge of selling my iPad and reverting back to a laptop, but there a bit bulky for what I require. When I 1st got my iPad I thought it as a godsend until storage became and issue, I know what most of you are going to say " get a bigger gb iPad" but the storage issues isn't really my documents and stuff it's the apps themselfs and the fact that some won't function if there not updated, if you turn updates of on a windows system everything still works pretty much.

iCloud is usefull for backing up data and it keeps documents, pictures, calendars synced across multiple devices. iTunes in the cloud offers a way to free up space. You can delete songs purchased from iTunes and if you want them again you can re-download them free of charge. Same goes for Apps already purchased. Photostream keeps the last 1000 photos static on the server for 30 days and keeps them synced across all of your devices like an iPhone, iPad, iPod touch, computer. It is not a complete storage solution or an open hard drive in the sky. It wasn't meant to be. Dropbox might be more of what you are looking for. It doesn't automatically update stuff but you can store things on their server the way you seem to want to.

  • ICloud Data Storage Guidelines

We just got this message from Apple. I'm not a developer by trade, I'm a designer, but I don't recall seeing anywhere in the CS 5.5 App development process that allowed for the level of specificity they are referring to below. Is this something that needs to be handled by Adobe or is there some place in the Apple Developer Portal that these changes can be made?
    Dear Developer,
In recent testing it appears that your app, XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX, stores a fair amount of data in its Documents folder.
Since iCloud backups are performed daily over Wi-Fi for each user's iOS device, it's important to ensure the best possible user experience by minimizing the amount of data being stored by your app.
In addition to purchased music, apps, books, Camera roll, and device settings, everything in your app's home directory, including its Documents folder, is backed up to iCloud.
Data stored in the application bundle itself, the caches directory, and the temp directory is not backed up to iCloud. Your app should store data in these locations according to the iCloud Data Storage Guidelines on <http://developer.apple.com/icloud/documentation/data-storage/>.
Please review these guidelines, make any required changes to your app, and submit an update to the App Store.
If you're not the technical contact for your app, please make sure this email gets to your development team.
If you have any questions concerning this information, please let me know.
    Thanks for developing for iOS!

When we release the set of tools for Newsstand (viewer builder and a VB backend that will build Newstand enabled apps), the code base you build against for Newstand enabled viewers will put the storage of folios in an Apple approved location. Currently we are in a day for day waiting period until Apple releases the GM of the iOS 5 SDK.  Once they release the SDK we will incorporate it into our system, test to insure there were no changes between the iOS SDK betas and GM and release a set of tools as soon as we are confident that viewers built on this code base will pass Apple approval.
Unfortunately I can't provide a timetable because I have no idea when the GM SDK will be released. All I can say is that we are anxiously awaiting the GM drop and are ready to move on it, the minute it is released. We understand the importance of Newsstand to our customers.
Non newstand Viewers built this version of viewer builder against the V15 DPS release will also work for iOS 4 devices and will move the storage of folios into an Apple approved location.

What do you mean by 'downloading'? - does it show in Settings>iCloud? It's additional space on the iCloud server, not additional memory on your iPad.
