ICloud will not accept my mobileMe address

Having moved from MobileMe, I have sorted out Contacts and Addresses (with some heartache)
I now try to set up iCloud mail. So I go to Preferences>iCloud and check the Mail button.
I am asked for an e-mail name. So - of course - I put in my MobileMe address.
But it says that is already in use....
So I go back to MobileMe to try to delete my address from there.
But it says that the address has been moved to iCloud.....
Totally mystified
If I choose a new (unchangeable) iCloud address - which I DO NOT WANT TO DO - what happens to all the mail sent to my old @me address if I want to see it one the iCloud web interface

Yes - I had my old email address in Mac Mail
So I have moved ALL my mail into On-my-Mac for safekeeping
Then I deleted that account from Mac Mail
I then tried - once more - with Preferences>iCloud to get my MobileMe address onto iCloud
and got the following....
So that does not help
Back to Mac Mail and re-install my old account and it looks like this
So its an iCloud account .... ? and [email protected] is my old mobile.me address
So why can I not access it from my iPad, which now wants me to "Create a free @me.com email address to turn on iCloud Mail". If I do that, how do I get my old @me address working on the iPad.
Really Apple has not excelled itself with this migration...

I have installed the Sun ONE Messaging server 6.0 as part of an evaluation of the Java Enterprise System. This was installed along with Directory Server 5.2 and Identity Server 6.1. During the installation I created a top level organization (o=internet) knowing that I would want to create multiple email domains within it and a default domain. After the installation was complete I used the User Management Utility (/opt/SUNWcomm/bin/commadmin) to create some users within the default domain. I provided each user with a primary email address ([email protected]) and an alternate email address (mailAleternateAddress = [email protected]).
In testing the system I find that the Messaging Server will not accept messages sent to the alternate email address whether sent from the same server (via Messenger Express) or from an external server. It returns the error message: 550 5.1.1 unknown or illegal alias.
In attempting to trouble shoot this problem I have watched the Directory Server's access log when such an email is sent. It shows a query using [email protected] even though the email message was sent to [email protected] In any event the DS finds the user, but the Messaging server rejects the message.

Both the primary and alternate email addresses are the same as the domain of the user.
Here is what I want to do. Email is sent to a primary email server (not this machine). Mail for some users stays on that server to be read and mail for other users is moved to a geographically separate server (the one in question) by specifying that the mail be forwarded to the specific host: [email protected] > [email protected]
On this second server I want to host two (or more) independent email domains. I do not want one of the domains to be a subdomain of the other. So during the installation I used o=internet as the root suffix and then used a different default domain (representing one of the registered internet domains). After installation I used the commadmin tool to create a second domain so now I have what looks something like this:
o=internet,
__ou=People
__ou=Groups
__o=domain1
____ou=People
____ou=Groups
__o=domain2
____ou=People
____ou=Groups
I then created some users under domain1 and some under domain2 so one user's dn is:
uid=user, ou=people, o= domain1.com, o=internet.
Mail sent locally to user@ domain1.com gets delivered correctly, but sending to [email protected] does not.
host2.domain1.com is the fully qualified domain name of the server.

There is nothing in the registration screen which should prevent you from entering any valid email ID unless and untill you are mentioning the same ID in both the "E-mail" and "Confirm E-mail" field. Could you please confirm that?

Welcome to the Apple community.
This feature has been introduced to make stolen phones useless to those that have stolen them.
However it can also arise when the user has changed their Apple ID details with Apple and not made the same changes to their iCloud account/Find My Phone on their device before upgrading to iOS 7.
The only solution is to change your Apple ID back to its previous state with Apple at My Apple ID verify the changes, enter the password as requested on your device and then turn off "find my phone".
You should then change your Apple ID back to its current state, verify it once again, delete the iCloud account from your device and then log back in using your current Apple ID. Finally, turn "find my phone" back on once again.

Did you try Firefox's Safe Mode? If it goes away with add-ons disabled, then one of your add-ons is the problem.
First, I recommend backing up your Firefox settings in case something goes wrong. See [https://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/Backing+up+your+information Backing up your information]. (You can copy your entire Firefox profile folder somewhere outside of the Mozilla folder.)
Next, try starting Firefox in Firefox
[http://support.mozilla.com/kb/Safe+Mode Safe Mode]. Be careful not to "reset" anything permanently if you didn't back up.
Does that fix it?

HT201365 I had to change my email address because I was locked out of my previous address and change my Apple ID password due to the iOS 7 upgrade. Now iCloud will not recognize my new address nor my new password. Everything else on my apple devices accep

I was forced to change my email address, (was locked out of it). I also was forced to change my Apple password due to the iOS 7 upgrade. Everything on my iPhone and iPad, including iTunes, accepted my new email address change, except iCloud. And because I was forced to change my password, it doesn't recognize my old password or new password either. There is no way I can find to change my email address on iCloud, and so I'm stuck. I cannot delete iCloud account without proper email and password and it still shows my old email and doesn't allow it to be changed.

If Settings>iCloud is showing your old email address, go to https//appleid.apple.com, click Manage my Apple ID and sign in with your current iCloud ID. Tap edit next to the primary email account, tap Edit, change it back to your old email address and save the change. Then edit the name of the account to change it back to your old email address. You can now use your current password to turn off Find My iPhone on your device, even though it prompts you for the password for your old account ID. Then go to Settings>iCloud, tap Delete Account and choose Delete from My iDevice when prompted (your iCloud data will still be in iCloud). Next, go back to https//appleid.apple.com and change your primary email address and iCloud ID name back to the way it was. Now you can go to Settings>iCloud and sign in with your current iCloud ID and password.

I have not used my ipad in many months, Today I go to use it and iCloud tells me I need to back the ipad up, then asks me for my icloud password. I preseume it is the same as my apple id password, but it wont accept that., then tells me I can reset it but wont take me to the internet and keeps coming back to the logon page.

Some people have multiple Apple ID's and iCloud accounts and forget their passwords because of that reason. Nobody here knows that you used the correct password. You never said that you entered the correct password. When you said you had not used the iPad in months, the natural assumption would be that you did indeed forget your password.
Try this and see if it lets you bypass that logon screen. You will not lose any data if you do this.
Reset the iPad by holding down on the sleep and home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider if it appears on the screen - let go of the buttons. Let the iPad start up.

This is in my Mac. For some reason, FaceTime does not seem to be on my iPhone 4S, but that's another issue. On my Mac, which is running 10.8.1, it lets me log in with my Apple ID, but then it asks for an email address, and when I put in the @mac.com address I use every day and is associated with my Apple ID, I get a window saying, "FaceTime Activation Could not verify the email address. Please re-enter and try again."
On the forum page for FaceTime, there is a drop-down saying, "You must choose a community" but all the choices are iOS related, so I picked one..

http://appleid.apple.com and verifying my email address.
Not sure why, as I've been using the same AppleID for years and never had a problem until now.
Select the option to have them resend the verificatin email and, once verified, everything should work from there!

Apple ID's can be used for anything, a single ID can be used for all your accounts (ie iCloud, iTunes, MAS, Apple community etc), ideally this would be the way forward. So far as iTunes goes you need to continue to use the same ID as you have always used or you will lose access to your previous purchases and your iTunes match subscription.
If you are using a second ID for iCloud, you can continue to do so or use the ID you use for iTunes, but if you choose the later you will need to move all your calendar, contact etc data to the account using the ID you use for iTunes.
When (if) you change which account you use you would delete the account on an iOS device and log back in with the correct details, on a mac you would sign out in the iCloud system preference pane.

ICloud Will Not Accept Password

I downloaded the iCloud today on my PC running Windows 7, and everything seemed to go fine. I had forgotten my password, so I had to reset it. However, when I attempted to log in to my iCloud account using that password, I received the message, "This Apple ID is valid but is not an iCloud account". I know it is the same password that I created earlier with the iCloud, but it does not work. I have attempted it repeatedly with no luck. I tried logging in to the iTunes store using the same password, and it worked just fine. Naturally, I would like to be able to use the same password for both and thought that's what I was doing. Any ideas or suggestions?

The only point of having an iCloud account would be if you had an Apple device. iCloud allows Apple devices to keep data consistent across them. If you only have a PC, there would be nothing to sync with.
Apple provides the iCloud control panel so people with Apple devices who also have PCs can keep the data on their devices consistent with the data on their PC.

I have an answer, "If you haven't got an iPhone, iPad, iPod touch or Mac, you can't use iCloud until you get one of them." It appeared in my email inbox, but I don't see it here.
Anyway: I can play iTunes and movies on my non-Mac PC. I've purchased a movie which plays on my PC. Since I can use the media on my PC, why can't I have an iCloud account? I want to play the movie on my Android tablet.
And besides, iCloud came pre-installed on my new Windows 8 computer. Why put it there if it's not accessible?

Those are the obvious candidates to try unfortunately.
So long as you can access itunes store to peruse rentals/YouTube etc you must be connected to the interent.
Ensure your country location is correct in Settings, though it shouldn't really matter, and if you've not done so reboot the AppleTV by unplugging at the mains.
Resets/restoring AppleTv would be other options to try.
