Icloud sends mail to my phone, but not to my computer.

Start by actually posting the error message,
"The only message I get is something about iCloud failing to contact the SMTP server"
is not very informative.

From time to time (about once/week), I cannot get my mails to send via iCloud and they end up in my Outbox for hours. The only message I get is something about iCloud failing to contact the SMTP server. I've tried using the default iCloud setup as well as the smtp.mail.me.com. The defined smtp one seems to be more reliable, but for some reason Mac mail seems to want to try the iCloud server first before it will use the defined server - not sure how to change this. I don't think this is an ISP issue because 90% of the time, things work fine - it's just when they don't work, it's incredibly annoying. Any suggestions for anything I should be changing in my setup? I'm running Mountain Lion 10.8.2.

I'm using ipad2 with ios5. My outbox won't send mail. I guess i need an outgoing server and can't find it anywhere.

My problem is i don't have an outgoing server spot on my menu. These are my selections. After getting to the menu that where i enter my password for hotmail, i have the following menu choices: Email, then server (bay-m.hotmail.com, then domain (empty), then username, then password, thendescription, then Use SSL, then S/MIME
I don't see or can find an outgoing server choice. My daughter has an ipad2 using Ios4 and she has all the choices that are illustrated on. All the help sites. I only have the ones listed above.

Outbox won't send mail

Had a problem earlier with my email account (Yahoo) being hacked, After resetting password all seemed to be well, but now my iPad won't send mail, it goes into OUTBOX but won't send. Receiving mail is no problem.
I am new to iPad and need a bit of help.

My iPad did resume 'normal service' after an overnight rest. I did not know that there was an imposed 24hr quarantine, but I do know that all's well now.
I found The BT staff in their technical help desk were good at fixing the original hacking problem on my laptop, but totally helpless at sorting the iPad issues out.
I had to talk to Apple help desk in UK who in turn put me through to the USA. Their consultant was great, but he undoubtedly didn't seem to aware of the quarantine imposed by Yahoo. I will try to get this information through to him for future information

My message to anyone who reads this topic and has been hacked on Yahoo (or btinternet) is
1 update security passwords on laptop. New password required. Delete all traces of hacked messages (inc failed delivery notices and real people's responses)
2 uninstall your mail settings on iPad and reinstall with new mail password on iPad.
3 the iPad mail system should then receive, but not send mail (goes into Outbox)
4 wait 24 hours then everything will be back to normal.
As a brand new user and about to go on a long holiday, it was a nightmare, but ended up fine!
Now in Singapore at 6am local time, can't sleep so catching up on my machine which functions perfectly!

MBP won't send mail

I have both a MBP & MBA. For some reason the MBP has stopped sending mail from the mail app. The out going server is the same with both; smtp.me.com:user name. However, the MBP won't send mail.
I thought it was a MobileMe problem. Then this morning I picked up the MBA and as soon as MobileMe did a sync there was the out going mail that was in my out box on the MPB. MobileMe did a sync and immediately sent the mail. I'd already tried MobileMe Express Lane this morning, but the site isn't working ... come back later.
I'm stumped as to why the MobileMe mail works on the MBA and not the MBP where the mail originated.
Any ideas?

Double check with your ISP for the correct Outgoing Mail Server format.

After years of use, AOL mail now won't send mail using firefox

My icloud will not send email said numbers app. Or it won't cc. me. Can anyone explain?

I'm not certan how to tell whether or not it is jailbroken but it's only when I use a specific charger and it's been fine ever since I threw that stupid thing away, No problems with the phone other then simple things I can handle. lol I seriously hope that madness never happens to anyone else!!!!

Mail won't send mail when in wireless mode but works fine when wired

Ok, this happens all the time. I have several pop email accounts, all of which work fine when I am hooked in to an ethernet cable, but Apple Mail won't send any of my outgoing mail form any of my accounts when i'm am working wirelessly.
I always get a message like:
Cannot send message using server smtp.name.net
I try to switch servers and I cycle through all of them, getting them same message, followed by things like:
The server response was: 5.1.2 Bad or missing RCPT domain k39sm5757680wah
Any advice.

Go to Apple Menu > System Preferences > Network, choose Network Port Configurations from the Show popup menu, and make sure that the configuration used to connect to Internet appears at the top of the list. Leave checked (enabled) only the port configuration needed to connect to Internet and Built-in Ethernet (in that order if not the same), uncheck (disable) the rest of network port configurations and see whether that helps — if it doesn’t, turn ON again the ones you want enabled.
You may use “network locations” to more easily switch between network settings if necessary, as described here:

Only one Mac won't send mail

I have 4 macs in the house, and suddenly one won't send email. all the others will. No changes, upgrades nothing. I have tried all the suggestions in the discussion for this problem. Also it is intermittent. Works sometimes, other times nothing. I have both a cox and .mac account

Iphone won't send mail - does receive

This seems to have been discussed ad nauseum, but I can't figure out the solution for me. I get the following message when trying to send or reply to emails "iphone won't send email a copy has been placed in your outbox. the sender address ______was rejected by the server". On wifi everything works, not when I am off though. My email provider is Roadrunner (.twcny.rr.com)
Everything was fine up until yesterday. I don't know what could have changed.....
Any help would be appreciated.

I'm having same difficulty. Was on tech support this AM and they couldn't figure it out either. I'm setting up a home wifi in next few days, will be interested to see if situation changes. My iPhone seems convinced that I'm [email protected] and tries to originate email from that address, only to be rejected by server as you describe. I can receive email that is addressed to [email protected], but even replying to such mail gets the same error. I'm beginning to suspect an ios5 bug, or there's something else about authorizing email addresses than is covered in documentation.

The mail app on my macbook pro and iphone will not send mail, but they can recieve mail. I deleted both accounts and reloaded them and they still won't work. After that I ran repair permissions and it found nothing wrong. Has anyone experienced this problem and how can I fix this?

I had same problem with my MBA and Mac Desktop (don't have iPhone)...could receive but not send emails after Lion upgrade. I only experienced it at home versus at work (inconsistently on both on my macbook air and my desktop mac).
For me the solution was when you compose an email there are two dropdown listboxes next to From: ...in the second one select smtp.me.com:yourusername Until Apple makes a change you might need to do that each time you send or reply to a message.
I think it has something to do with if you don't do that then port 25 might get used which can be blocked by a lot of ISPs.
Apple support helped me solve this problem and said it was a known issue they are working on.

Yahoo won't send mail

Any help with this would be appreciated; Yahoo mail will let me do everything but send mails or save them as drafts. I press the send button and nothing happens! This is the same in both Safari and Explorer...
Any thoughts?

I have started having the same problem. All functions in Yahoo mail work fine, except several buttons such as Send, Save as Draft, Spell Check and Cancel buttons in the Compose Mail panel. I am using Internet Explorer:Mac 5.2.3. OS X 10.1.5. Any suggestions?

Entourage won't send mail

I can send mail through my (mac. mail application) but I prefer using Entourage. My mac. account expired and I subscribed for a new one, Ever since then I can't sen e-mail through Entourage. I get the massage that an unknown error ( - 17199 ) occurred. The account which created the message could not be found. connection to the server failed or was dropped.

I think your guess is reasonable.
When Entourage sends a message it first goes through the Outbox and once sent successfully is moved to the Sent Items folder.
If your company is running an OWA server for web browser access, check its Sent Items folder. If your message is there then it's definitely making it to the server. Beyond that Entourage has no control.

IPod won't send mail.

I've set up my iPod mail by syncing with iTunes. Everything is fine - all mailboxes sync and inward mail is coming in ok. But I can't send mail. I've checked all the settings, including that the port is the same as the port set on the iMac. I'm trying to send mail on my home wireless network. The send icon twirly thing just spins around and never sends an email. help!

have found a way round it. now my Mobile Me is working properly the email on the ipod is working too. Not sure what the underlying cause was, but its working now!

OSX Mail won't send mail from outbox

I'm having a problem with Mail not sending messages from my out box. Everytime I compose a new message, it ends up in the outbox. I used the connection doctor and my pop and smtp connection is fine. I tried deleting some of my old email messages. I've repaired permissions, ran Diskwarrior even move my old email from a holding folder, deleting the old mail account, created a new account, transfered the old email back into the new account. It still doesn't send email from the out box. I know my pref settings are correct because I also have a G-4 desktop running the same OS and it sends mail just fine. I'm stumped.
Any info will be of great help.

If no error message is provided, the Outbox mailbox may have some corruption.
With the Mail.app quit and using the Finder, go to Home > Library > Mail > Mailboxes > Outbox.mbox.
The Outbox.mbox folder represents Out in the mailboxes drawer which appears only when a message cannot be sent and is shared by all accounts.
Delete the Outbox.mbox folder and empty the Trash. This will delete any messages contained in the Outbox mailbox so before doing so, you need to move any messages contained in the Outbox mailbox to the account's Drafts mailbox.
Launch Mail and a new Outbox.mbox folder will be created automatically by Mail within the Mailboxes folder.
