Icon editing in Logic 8

All i want to do is load my virus icon into the environment window!
as usual, the manual refers to a folder that doesnt exist, saying i have to put .png files in it.
anybody know how to actually do this seeing as the people who write the manual dont seem to know!
i'm guessing that the icons are centralised on the system somewhere so that they can be accessed by garage band etc.
any help much appreciated!

Hi LW,
You can create your own icons for tracks. User created icons are saved in the following folder: ~*/Library/Application Support/Logic/Images/Icons.*
+You can create this folder yourself... As I did here:+
These icons must have the following attributes:
*128 x 128 pixels in size
*Must be saved in the portable network graphics format (with the .png suffix)
*Must be given a file name that *starts with a three-digit number*
Note: If this number is identical to the number of one of the built-in Logic Pro icons, the icon found in the user folder is given priority.
You also have the option of directly replacing the built-in Logic Pro icons, which are found in the /Contents/Resources/Images folder *in the Logic Pro package*.
To open the Logic Pro package:
Right-click the Logic Pro icon in the Finder, and choose the *Show Package Contents* item from the pop-up menu.
Regards, Erik.

  • Logic 9 corrupts EXS insts created/edited in Logic 8

OK, I thought this issue was limited only to EXS instruments that used the VSL Performance Tool, but I'm finding that many (if not all) instruments I created or edited in Logic 8 are corrupted in Logic 9.
Something fishy is going on in the EXS architecture between these versions. To be specific, it seems that EXS in Logic 9 doesn't recall certain parameters that I've set in version 8: zone loop on/off, start & end points, crossfade, LFO settings and on and on.
This is an absolute show-stopper: I have HUNDREDS of custom EXS patches I created in Logic 8 alone that are unusable in Logic 9!
    Anybody else experiencing this?

Specifically, mod matrix parameters do not recall properly. On some mod/matrix slots, values known to have been saved with non-zero values are recalled as zero. See the following link for an insight:
    http://www.logicprohelp.com/viewtopic.php?t=45379
"Logic Expert", I admire your optimism though I may note entirely share it. I post feedback because it's one of the few channels we have to report bugs. The value in the forums -- as Jim said -- is to make others aware of problems, get confirmation from other users experiencing the bugs, and, dare I say, vent on occasion. And, of course, to occasionally have a laugh.
For bugs there's also the ADC Bug Reporter, but there isn't enough time in the day to write up reports in the format they (understandably) request. If you're going to go the ADC route you're basically agreeing to be an unpaid beta tester. And the reality of using the Bug Reporter is that you won't necessarily get confirmation of the bugs you report. So you're feeding information into a system that promises basically nothing in return, not confirmation, not a 'thank you'. Only if you're really lucky will you get a response or a request for additional info.
What I don't quite understand is what is so inappropriate about people occasionally expressing their anger because the software they just paid hundreds of dollars for doesn't work as advertised or as expected. Not saying that continual rant-fests is the way to go... far from it. But the frustration is there. It's visible everyday, world-wide on the 'Net vis a vis news articles, blogs, forums, on any number of issues related to Apple products, from laptop batteries blowing up to über-buggy software titles. And Apple's reputation for non-response is legendary.
So what is it about Apple that they should be approached walking on eggshells, or not apprised of the tens of thousands of cumulative man-hours of wasted time and frustration assumed by customers unwitting of the beta-like software they just paid good money for? What is clearly not understood by some power-that-is (and I would also opine that the Emapple guys are not at fault here) is that _people make their living using these wares_. Logic is not a toy! But to advertise it as ready for public consumption and then to see things like this EXS mod matrix bug literally prevent people from making their living is reprehensible.
You speculate that Apple reads the feedback. Sure, I think sending feedback is very important. However, I speculate that the Emapple guys are already aware of some (but not all) of these bugs. But I can't help but think that their hand was forced in putting Logic 9.0.0 out to market when it really should have been put out to pasture with a lot of other RC's.
In terms of being hopeful, yes, let's hope that 9.0.1 comes out REAL quick and fixes, amongst other things:
    • EXS modulation matrix recall bug
    • UNDO history non-recall bug
    • no way to avoid creating take folders when punching into a track bug
    • remainder of punched-into MIDI region shortened when coming out of record
    • tempo event behavior that's vastly different from L8 (a confirmed bug with a fix purportedly in the works)
    • using "select unused" removes BIP files from the Arrange area
    • global track display doesn't function properly in the score editor
    • video thumbnail doesn't display in any Global tracks except those enabled in the Arrange page
The bugs are real, but the rest is my opinion, which may differ from your opinion, YMMV, etc. etc.

  • How to make use of 'Icon Name' in Logical link?

I see the option 'Icon name' in 'define logical links' in SPRO. It does not however has an F4. I tried giving the name of image in the relevant skin. But no image appears besides the logical link. Is there something else that needs to be done to get an image besides workcenter link? How to make use of this 'Icon Name' in logical link?

    Hi,
i guess this icon_name is not possible for every skin in CRM70.
We use nova skin - here it is not possible.
With default skin i saw icons for example on the salespro startpage.
    Kind regards

  • Weird track icon appearing in Logic 9

A weird track icon has appeared in my version of Logic 9. It's on several tracks in a current project and I don't know what it is or how it got there (I can't see it in Logic's chart of track icons anyway, and I've certainly not imported any). If I had a Windows PC I'd suspect a virus or something, but I'm assured by a 'Mac genius' in my local Apple Store that I can't possibly have such a thing.
The icon has two elements which look like characters from some '80s computer game, both orange in colour. One looks like two hard drives stacked one on top of the other; the other is in the shape of a downward-pointing arrowhead or fountain pen nib. The background is black. I'd attach an image if I could see how you do that on this web page!
Can anyone give me information on what's happened here? Thanks very much.

    It's this icon:
    file:///Applications/Logic%20Pro.app/Contents/Resources/Images/LegacyIcons/47.pn g
(paste that into the address bar of your web browser and hit return to open it; it's a local file on your machine, within the Logic bundle)
Logic just assigned one of its legacy icons to the track for whatever reason.
    Don't worry about it.
If it bothers you, select another icon and move on.

  • MIDI editing with Logic Express (Thinking about buying Express)

I currently use GarageBand to write songs using MIDI. When I want to finalize a song, I use Pro Tools to give it some gentle limiting. I'd use Pro Tools exclusively, but I find GB so easy to use that I can't see myself bothering with PT for MIDI.
How are the MIDI editing capabilities on Logic Express? How would they compare in terms of ease of use versus GarageBand (and Pro Tools, for that matter)? Is there another program out there that's great for MIDI editing/programing? Can GarageBand export MIDI (I doubt, though...).
[ I wish I could use the software instruments found (free) in Pro Tools with GarageBand, seeing as how I'd have a little more to choose from and a bit higher quality. How would you rate the software intruments found in Logic Express? ]
MacBook (2 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo, 2 GB 677 MHz)   Mac OS X (10.4.8)   GarageBand & Pro Tools

    Hi Jose,
My version of Protools is 6.4, so the midi editing in Logic Express,
is far better, if you like GarageBand you'll probably Love Express,
apart from the learning curve everything's better.
Better than Express only Logic pro.
Every sound you have in GB you have in Logic ( I believe they share the same audio engine) but with the benefit the plug-ins (32 bits internal process it sounds better) also you can twick the sounds, plus you have Soft synths and sampler with loads of new sounds.
    Cheers,
    Jorge

  • Icons for both Logic 9.2.0. and 9.1.1.

When I upgraded to Logic Pro 9.2.0., it created a new icon for 9.2.0., as opposed to updating the previous version of Logic. This left me with two Logic Pro icons. Now that I have upgraded to 9.1.1., my original Logic Pro is updated, and the Logic Pro 9.2.0. is still there.
I assume I should just delete the 9.2.0., but why is the installer creating new icons.
Does the 9.1.1. update include everything in 9.2.0.?
    Thanks in advance.

You can edit posts up to about 20 minutes after you posted, mainly to correct errors etc.
After that, the typos, bad grammer, incorrect info and "d'oh!" headslapping moments are sealed and locked in time for all to laugh at forever...
So no, you can't edit old posts in this forum.

  • Score Edit makes Logic crash.

Whenever I edit the complete score of my compositions (pretty complex, long), Logic simply crashes. Has anybody here also experienced similar problems?
Also, I'm thinking maybe if I upgrade to version 8, the problem/bug will be sloved. Plus an updated version should have more features that helps me with my music writing. So I think I'm gonna get version 8. But I'm just wondering if version 8 and 7 are compatible. You know, the computers at my uni all run Logic 7 (some Pro, some Express). And if I have an 8 on my own machine, will I be able to continue the work from what I left off from my uni's 7? And vice versa?

Logic 8 does not install over Logic 7, so you are free to use version 7 when you please to do so.

  • Trying to export audio for editing in Logic...

I'm having an issue properly exporting audio from some video I shot... I was able to export the audio as an AIFF file, but when I import it into Logic (to enhance the audio), it plays back at a different pitch and tempo (although when I open the exported file in Quicktime player it works fine...)
Maybe it's an issue with Logic? Or should I change some setting for exporting the audio as an AIFF file?

yes it is possible to do this, but it is a bit complicated. Under the share menu choose export media. In the dialog that appears you can choose audio only. There are options for AAC, AIFF etc. The problem is that it will export all of the audio from your project so if you want only audio from a particular clip to be exported you need to create a new project and then copy/paste the clip into the new project. You can then export that audio as described above. An alternative is to create a new empty compound clip in the browser and open it in a timeline and copy/paste your clip into it. You can then export audio only as above. Once you have edited the audio, import it into FCPX and add as attached clip to the original clip. You can either drag the volume of the original audio down so it is not audible or detach the original audio and delete it. Not as simple as in previous versions of FCP but do-able.

  • PRINTING KEY COMMANDS/ EDITING VOCALS/LOGIC PRO 7 compared with Logic 8

    Dear all,
q1: i am trying to print the key commands. A way to do this is by Copy Key Commands in the Options pull down menu and then paste it onto a text editor (e.g word). My problem is, when I paste it onto word the names of the commands appear but the actual key commands on the right do not, and some symbols appear on the left of the names where they should not. Is there a simple way to print the key commands. My word processor is a 2004 word version and my Logic Pro 7 about a year old.
q2: I am recording a multitude of vocals. Which window would you find most practical for quick and effective editing? the arrange window or going into each region by double click and trim detail there? I somehow seem to prefer the arrange but would welcome any suggestions.
q3: I feel much more comfortable using Logic Pro 7 as Logic 8 does not advance my workflow yet. Am I alone in thinking in these terms. Would you agree on the possibility of users sticking at 7 for quite some time, maybe a year or two before they switch to 8 if at all. I d be very interested to hear anyones thoughts on this
Thank you all for reading. if you can spare a thought ot two I d be so thankful.
    Nik

My experience is that I only learn a few key commands at a time.. ie really use them and remember them. Therefore go to the KC window and open up the commands where you want to concentrate your learning. Then take a Screenshot
(Command + Shift + 4 and draw a box) which appears as a Picture 1 on your desktop. Then just refer to that
many users ( me included) are still working in L7 with occasional experimental forays into L8
Those really on top of L8 have committed early on and really gone for it.. if you dont have a high new info tolerance or are not particularly software savvy.. stick with L7

  • Any easy guide from Pro Tools Editing to Logic Editing?

    Hi,
I am new here. Just switched from Pro Tools to Logic.
Is there an easy guide to translate from one to the other?
I am having some specific problems.
When I try to select with the pointer tool it just drags the whole region. How do I select a section like I do in Protools?
Why do the edits not show up in the sample editor?
Why are the edit tools different in the sample editor window...for example...why can't I use the scissors tool thre?
Is there something comparable to the smart tool in Pro-tools? I am finding I have to go up and click on the tool list every time and it is time consuming. Is there a list of key commands?
I am sure I have even more questions but that should suffice for now.
    Thanks!
    Celia

Here's so more stuff to not take personally:
Read the manual. Complex tasks demand complex tools and complex tools aren't always intuitive.
If I understand your first question correctly, you want to select just a portion of a region while in the arrange screen. If so try esc-E, this will bring up the "marquee" tool. I think that's the one you want for selecting material to cut, copy, etc.
I don't do a lot of sample editing, but I've done enough to know that the sample system really requires the manual for a full understanding. Different screens are used for different activities. Mostly the sample remains the sample and onlly the reference to the sample is modified, truncated, clipped and so forth. Though it's possible, you mostly don't make destructive editing on the sample directly.
Regarding tool access: You can get to them a number of ways. Esc-key calls up the list, you can click one or you can type the associated call-up number/letter. Additionally you can right cllick and it will use the secondary tool. The secondary (and the primary left click tool as well) can also be selected in the upper right hand area just above the main arrange window.
But really, sooner or later, if you want to really understand the thing you have to read the manual or something like the PeachPit publications on Logic/Logic Express.
    Sad but true.

  • Since installing an icon-editing add-on, I can't open tabs any more / I can only use one tab at a time.

Ever since I installed the add-on Favicon Picker 2 that lets you change the bookmark icons, I can't open tabs any more. The second tab will open, but if you try to go to a site, the FIRST tab redirects to that site. Basically, I can only use one tab at a time. Is there any way I can keep this add-on and use tabs?

Oh, wow - look at that, you're right :) I didn't want to uninstall the add-on as I like the feature, but simply by disabling it you can keep the new icons AND use tabs. Thanks dude!
(The add-on is Favicon Picker 2 0.6.2.15 by the way - some of the user reviews report the same problem.)

  • How can I export a movie with audio that I have edited in logic 9 to a quicktime movie

I imported a quicktime movie into logic and added audio and effects but when i export it the original audio from the quicktime movie is still there even though it doesn't sound in logic!

    Hi
One of teh final steps in the Export to Movie process is a dialog box where one can select which of the audio tracks embedded within the movie are included.
You must actively de-select those tracks that you do NOT want to include in the Export.

  • 2 suggestions for Score Edit in Logic

    Hi,
I've just been looking for a place where I could do suggestions to the Logic developers, but couldn't find it.... well, maybe they read this
I'd really like the option of having chords with an alternative bass note (like G/B) displayed with the chord letter and the bass note on the same height. Now, the bass note is lower, and it takes a lot of vertical space. Besides that, it's harder to read. Most lead sheets I've seen have all letters on the same height.
Another hint: what if I could copy lyrics from a text document right into the score editor? Suppose I have the lyrics copied on the clipboard, and Logic would interpret all spaces as the "tab" we normally press to jump to the next note. Just make sure that all syllables have spaces between them, then paste at the first note - ready! It would save me a lot of typing!
    Just my 2 cents...
Having said the above, it's really cool to be able to play a melody, play simplified chords on another track, and have a lead sheet with just a few mouse clicks (using "chord analyze"). It made me drop some friends' jaws so far

    Jaap

  • MIDI recording and editing with Logic Express 8

Hello, I am a beginner. In the literature it is stated that I should "make sure that the latest DRIVER version is installed. I suppose that means the driver from the MIDI system manufacturer which in my case is LIMEX, Vienna, Austria. The MIDI system product name is MidiPro 3, not well known in the US.
Limex does not make/offer a driver. In the audio Midi setup window I was able to install this system and it took it. I can perform single track Midi recordings but when I select three tracks for simultaneous multi-track recording using three different instruments, the recording plays back with one and the same instrument on all tracks.
    What am I doing wrong?
Could this have something to do with the fact that I don't have a DRIVER from my MIDI instrument supplier, Limex?
Someone told me that since I can get Logic to recognize Limex and can record single MIDI tracks it means that I probably don't need a driver and that I am doing something wrong with the set-up.
    PLEASE HELP!

    Hi,
please clarify what you want to do. If you record midi data, this has absolutely nothing do to with the sound. Midi is data only, no sound. So, if you have three tracks containing the same midi data, it depends on the instrument (real or software instrument) you are triggering with this data what sound you'll get.
Example: You record to three tracks at once. Now all three tracks have the same midi data.
Now you set one track to the ES1 Synth, the other to a EXS24 sampler and the third to whatever.
Now all three tracks play back the same notes (midi data), but with different sounds (instruments).
If you trigger an external instrument (is the LIMEX an Instrument or just a midi keyboard?), the midi data has to be set to the correct midi channel and maybe you need a program change event to tell the external instrument which sound bank to use. You can create this Event in the Event List.
