Icon from deleted program in LaunchPad

I am using 10.9.2
I have deleted an app (using the app provider's recommended procedure) but the icon in LaunchPad is still there, but with a grey question mark on it? Can I get rid of this icon somehow? Wondering why there are no user controls for LaunchPad anyway.....

In Terminal write:
defaults write com.apple.dock ResetLaunchPad -bool true
killall Dock

  • How do I delete Aliases in Launchpad?

I have successfully installed WD MyBook external hard drive & backed up using Time Machine. I have stupidly dragged the MyBook icon from the desktop into Launchpad. I now have about a hundred aliases in Launchpad. How do I get rid of them? I have tried to drag them into Trash, but they keep coming back. Help!

    Open Terminal and type:
    sqlite3 ~/Library/Application\ Support/Dock/*.db "DELETE from apps; \
DELETE from groups WHERE title<>''; DELETE from items WHERE rowid>2;" \
    && killall Dock
Finally, open Finder, go to Applications and drag all to Launchpad icon to recover the icons

  • Search icons from forms/reports builder and runtimes

    Hello together,
    who can help me?
I search the icons from the programs forms- and reports-builder and theirs runtimes (the little pictures in front off the filename).
I need these to import in another program. They should have 16x16 pixel.
Where can I find these icons?
    Thanking you in advance.
    Regards,
    Sandra

Not a final answer to your questions as I don't know the directory structure for forms & reports builders, but you can search for *.ico files in the same (unless forms & Reports use different extensions for icon files).

  • Icon from file

Is there anyway possible to get the (windows) icon from a program file?? Like getting the (windows) Explorer icon from explorer.exe??
I watched the API class File, but i couldn't find anything.
You can get a file with
    File program = new File("D:\winamp.exe");
    but this doesnt work
    Icon ico = program.getIcon();
Can anyone help me with this??

Do I correctly understand that you want to read the icon image that Windows finds when it displays shortcuts or when it displays the little icon in the top-left-hand corner of the window? Sort of the opposite of Frame.setIconImage(), but for a non-Java program?
I think you would have to find out the format of how these icons are stored, then read the file and interpret it yourself.
Alternatively, if you know in advance the program, you can copy the icon into the clipboard (use the "Print Screen" button); copy that into Paint or other suitable image program; cut and save just the icon as a GIF or JPG; and then load that into your program.
Not straightforward, I know, but I don't believe Java has a facility for this.

  • Apps to Install and Uninstall Icons from Launchpad

I have found an application by a third party that installs in the System Preference file that allows you to Add or Delete any Icon from Launchpad with just a click.
I have installed the program and it works very good - no problems.
I also run NORTON Internet Security 5 for MAC and the program went though the filters and checks with NO problems.
Below is the link that takes you to the developer and download sight by a developer named Chaosspace.de
    http://chaosspace.de/launchpad-control/
Good luck and I hope this help everyone, this problem is very frustrating!

Why?  In general this type of setup is handled by using standard Windows authentication.  Normal users cannot install/uninstall programs.  The problem solves itself.  You cannot technically prevent an admin from removing a program.
It simply isn't possible.  As an admin I can remove the folder containing your program and it is effectively uninstalled.  I can manually remove any registry entries you create and it is uninstalled.  I can basically manually uninstall anything
that you install as an admin.

  • I cannot download a working version of Firefox at all. Downloads seem normal but No Program in "Add or Delete programs"and NO ICON

I kept getting a mssg "update did not download. make sure there are no other copys of Firefox on your computer". That was on the user account I use strictly for the internet. I keep 3 user accounts, One is the administrator for security, a sort of 3 card monty for security purposes. The one I use for the internet kept repeating that mssg (I sure do miss the firefox spellcheck. I dont like Internet Explorer at all).
In frustration I deleted firefox from all three user accounts and attempted to download a fresh browser. All things seemed to download as normal but after the restart there was no Firefox Icon or any evidence of the program in the "Add or Delete Programs". It simply seems to disappear.
I tried downloading on the administrator account and the other two to the same effect.
I tried to do over and began to notice on the File Download-Security Warning Dialox Box that there were several different addresses beside "From;" from several different countrys, including halifax which didnt appear in the following examples
For exampl the dialog box I have up now says
    File Download-Security Warning
    Name: Firefox setup 6.0. exe
    Type: Application, 13.3MB
    From: mirror.informatik.uni-mannheim.de
    Now I am going to delete this one and click the download from Firefox homepage again and it should be another;
It is. Same Dialog Box but
    FROM: mirror.team-cymru.org
I delete and do that again...and also a different
    FROM: mozilla.mirror.ac.za
    try again..and yes it is different too;
    FROM: mirror.metrocast.net
    try again...the same result
    FROM: mirror.Istn.net
    try again...
    FROM: www.mirrorservice.org
    try again...
and for the first time this session I get a repeat of the last result.
My intuition tells me this cant be normal in conjunction with the fact that after going through a normal download process any of these possibilities needs to restart and then after rebooting there is no firefox icon or any evidence the program downloaded at all.
Perhaps I could do a check of the math on remaing MB space, but there has to be something wrong here.

Using "System Restore" can cause your Firefox installation to get corrupted because not all files are restored (only files in a white-list), so be cautious with using System Restore.<br />
You need to (re)install software that was affected.<br />
Remove the Firefox program folder (C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox\) before reinstalling a freshly downloaded Firefox copy to do a clean install.
You can find the latest Firefox release in all languages and for all Operating Systems here:
    *Firefox 11.0.x: http://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/all.html
Remove all rules for Firefox and the plugin-container from the permissions list in the firewall and let your firewall ask again for permission to get full unrestricted access to internet for Firefox and the plugin-container process and the updater process.

  • How do you remove an unwanted Steam icon from Launchpad?

I found an answer to this question online after some extensive searching. The answer isn't on the Support Forums, so I thought I'd post a link to the page (to credit the author) and copy / paste the wording below.
You don't have to download any dirty third party apps to do this...thanks to Joe!
    FORCE REMOVING ICOMS FROM LAUNCHPAD
    http://joegardiner.co.uk/removing-icons-from-launchpad/
The standard method for removing app icons from the Lion Launchpad is to hold the left mouse button [or old the Option / Alt key] over the app icon, wait for the cross to appear in the corner of the app icon, and then click it!
In some cases however app icons can become orphaned, for example if you use on Steam on Mac, deleting local content to uninstall a game will not remove the game icon from Launchpad. This leaves you with an unusable orphaned icon that seems invincible and does not appear in the Application folder along with the rest of your apps.
    The solution is as follows…
    1. Open Launchpad, find the offending icon(s) and drag them to your normal dock.
    2. Right click on the icon that you dragged to your dock and choose ‘Show in Finder’.
    3. Now drag the icon(s) from the Finder windows that opens up into the Trash.
    4. Finally right click on the dock item(s) that you dragged originally and choose ‘Remove from dock’.
Voila, the icons have disappeared from Launchpad and the annoying orphaned icons that seemed invincible have been thwarted.

Maybe this is an issue I should consult my ISP about??
No question about that. If you can "see" Travis's device, then he can likely "see" your Time Capsule.
I'm just concerned that whomever the APExpress belongs to could be changing settings on my computer or Time Capsule that would cause the issues with me not being able to backup.
Make sure that you have a Time Capsule base station password. Unless a user has that password, they might be able to "see" your Time Capsule, but they cannot access any of the data on the Time Capsule or change the settings.
Open AirPort Utility, click on the Time Capsule and click Manual Setup
Then, click the Time Capsule tab below the icons to see the device name and password for your device. Make sure that you have entered the password and confirmed. Click Update if you have made any changes.
The message I get is "The backup was not performed because an error occurred while copying files to the backup disk.  The problem may be temporary.  Try again later to back up.  If the problem persists, use Disk Utility to repair your backup disk."
I am not sure what this error means, because I cannot duplicate it here to test.
If it were me, I would try this "fix".

  • Removing Parallels Icons from Launchpad

    Hi,
I had a trial version of Parallels desktop, i deleted the app, but the icons are still on the launchpad and can't remove as it won't let me as it says the application has been removed?  Help.......

Seriously? No one knows this? Look at your launchpad, usually the first few pages are your real apps, from the apps folder I assume. Then I have a couple more pages of icons that are just folder-junk. They're not apps at all, and not launchable. What gives?

  • An app will not completely download from the App Store to my iPhone 5S. Neither can I terminate the download by trying to delete it. The app is useless to me and so I would like to remove the icon from my home screen. How can I do this?

I tried to download the app "Google Translate" from the App Store onto my iPhone 5s. However, the download will not complete. As well, when I try to delete the icon from my home screen, it will not go away.  I am very frustrated as this has never happened before and I have gotten many paid and free apps from the App Store. I hope someone can solve my dilemma.  Thank you kindly.

What have you tried to get the app to finish downloading e.g. have you tried logging out and back into your account on your phone, disconnecting and reconnecting to your network, soft-reset of your phone (press and hold both the sleep and home buttons for about 10 to 15 seconds, ignore the red slider, after which the Apple logo should appear and it should reboot) ?
You could also try downloading the update on your computer's iTunes and see if you can sync it over to your phone (or delete the app its Apps tab when connected to your computer's iTunes and sync the new version - deleting the app will delete its contents).

  • How do i delete programs from my MacBook Pro

how do i delete programs from my MacBook Pro?

Most apps may be simply deleted to the trash; all have a small file in ~/library/preferences associated to it, e.g. company.com.name-of-app.plist, may or may not be deleted. Some apps have their uninstaller, if their creator is scrupulous (some are not), if they spread files all over the system.
There are apps targeted at deleting other apps, I have been using AppZapper, but there are some other free solutions, see other comments. Do NOT delete Apple apps, they belong to the system, even if installed later.

With a corrupt disk, the install procedure is most likely going to fail.
    How old it the disk?
You might be able to reformat it to fix the problem. Of course that means you lose all of your data.
The other alternative is to get a new disk drive and put that in your Mac and install OS X
Then put the old disk drive in an enclosure and see what can be recovered from it.

  • I have deleted the Facetime icon from a Contact but now want to reinstate it. How do I do this?

On my iPad Air, I have deleted the FaceTime icon from many of my listed Contacts. Is there a way to restore the icon and FaceTime facility to selected contacts?

Some of my contacts in Contacts have the Facetime icon in their listing, some don't. I guess I've deleted it from those where it's missing, though not sure how! How can I get it back when it's missing? in Edit, I can add new email addresses, phone numbers etc, but I can't figure out how to add FaceTime to a listing.
