Icon missing in Folder View (WinXP)

My Lenovo T400 laptop running WinXP SP3 has Adobe Acrobat 8.1 installed as part of CS3.
When I open a folder to view files, any item that is a PDF does not have the Acrobat icon. Instead, the items have the generic Windows "there is no icon file" icon for the file. It does recognize that the file is a PDF, however, by saying this in the Type column. I tried renaming a file to have the .pdf extension but it didn't change anything.
The system knows to open PDFs with Acrobat as well.
Any suggestions on why the file icon isn't showing up?
I have done all WinXP and Adobe updates available through today.

You may have to simply go to the files menu of explorer (TOOLS>Folder Options>File Types) and set the icon there. Other than that, I am not sure.

  • Sub-Folder View Icons Missing in List View (Finder)

    Since upgrading to Lion, the arrows in Finder for viewing sub folders has disappeared from Finder in list view and cover flow. At first, I just figured it was another nice feature of OS X they decided to kill off, but I was looking at my boyfriend's computer, and his still has the triangle icons, and he's using Lion.
    I've tried a few things to try to fix it, but nothing seems to help. Using the Command + right arrow key combination causes some weird glitch folders to appear below the folder I'm trying to view the contents of. The names of those folders is always stuff like "Folders", "Applications", "PDF Documents", among others. Here's a screenshot of my Finder view, and those odd folders:
    Does anyone know how to fix these issues? Thank you for any replies. =)

    Wow, Woolgatherer was right on on this one! What was bugging me, besides not having the up/down sort arrow buttons in the columns, was I was backwards on the arrangement. In essence, when I had the arrangement in "Kind," the items were from "z to a" instead of "a to z." The arrangement view is nice to look at, because it separates the types of items into groups, but you can not reverse the order quickly.
    If you do as Woolgatherer says, and turn off the "Arrange by" to none, and then the folders display the up/down arrows to go in alphabetical order from top to bottom or bottom to top. Once you toggle the header arrow, then you can actually go back to "Arrange by" to "Kind," and it is in the opposite order. What I mean by this, if you sort from the header "a to z" and then go to the Arrange by "Kind," it is now in the order of "z to a." This is very weird.

  • Export and Print icons missing from report viewer

    I'm currently embedding crystal within a wicket application in which I'm making use of the getHtmlContent() method to retrieve the report's HTML.  For whatever reason, I'm not able to get either the export or print icons (on the top left side of the viewer).  Is this because I'm using the getHtmlContent() method or do I have something misconfigured somewhere?  Setting the setHasExportButton(true) and setHasPrintButton(true) on the report viewer object has no effect.
    If I run the same report using the generated JSP outside of my application (within tomcat), I see the export/print buttons.  I notice the JSP makes use of the processHttpRequest() method.  Any help will be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks!
    Louis

    Hi Louis
    - The getHtmlContent() method handles the user's request to generate the HTML for the report and returns the HTML as a String.
    Note: Either the getHtmlContent method or the processHttpRequest method can be used to handle the user's request to generate the HTML for the report, depending on how you write your JSP. If the viewer's content is displayed more than once, then the getHtmlContent method is more efficient, because the request is processed once and the resulting HTML string can be used multiple times. In this case, you must set the content type of the HTML, as recommended in the table. Additionally, using getHtmlContent sets setOwnPage to false and disables exporting and printing.
    - The setOwnPage(true) and  processHttpRequest() method should be used if you want the export and print button to appear in the report viewed through Crystal Report Viewer.
    Following is the snippet of code which shows you how to use these 2 methods.
    //Get the IReportSource object from sesion and pass it to the viewer
         IReportSource reportSource = (IReportSource)session.getAttribute("reportSource");
    Create the viewer and render the report -
         //create the CrystalReportViewer object
         CrystalReportViewer oCrystalReportViewer = new CrystalReportViewer();
         //set the reportsource property of the viewer
         oCrystalReportViewer.setReportSource(reportSource);
         //set viewer attributes
         oCrystalReportViewer.setOwnPage(true);
         oCrystalReportViewer.setOwnForm(true);
         //set the CrystalReportViewer print mode
         //oCrystalReportViewer.setPrintMode(CrPrintMode.ACTIVEX);
         oCrystalReportViewer.setPrintMode(CrPrintMode.PDF);
         //process the report
         oCrystalReportViewer.processHttpRequest(request, response, getServletConfig().getServletContext(), null);
    Hope this helps you .
    Thanks

  • Kde4 folder view icon text

    I'm still getting used to kde4, and at first I hated it but now it's slowly starting to grow on me. My question is: is there a way to change how much text is displayed and the spacing of icons in the "folder view" widget. Right now folder view displays the first 8 characters of a file, and that's not quite enough.

    I got kde 4.2 today and the problem even got worse, now I cannot go into any configuration-menu... and at one point I couldn't even get into kde..! I installed gnome, which runs just fine, but I want back and toy around with kde. I've tried completely removing kde from my computer, but the same problem I get when I install it again.
    I did a 'locate kde' which shows a lot of kde-things even though it should be removed from the system.
    I am thinking of doing a complete archlinux reinstall, but that is against my principles... so, how can I completely remove kde from my computer and start all over again?
    Oh boy, no need for this.  It won't even help you a thing.  Just mv you .kde4 folder to i.e. _kde4_bak.  This resets completely.

  • Why are my desktop folder icons missing?

    why are my desktop folder icons missing?

    Yes I have tried a restart, a shut down and restart, a coling off period for 5 minutes anda restart, an examination of view options and I still get nothing, no destop folders icons, just the title of the folder.  The folders without icons will open and their contents are displayed, just not the icons.  The only icons I see are the hard drives, I have 4 in my old mac pro.  So what gives?

  • Icon in Application Folder Grid View is not displaying correctly

    Hi there,
    It seems that whenever I download and install a new program into my Applications folder, the icon appears incorrectly in Grid View. For example, I just downloaded a program called Dragster, installed it and dragged it into my Applications folder. However now, when I click on 'Applications' on the dock, the icon for Dragster is white with a circle and line through it (similar to a non-smoking type of sign).
    If I drag the icon to the Desktop and then back into Applications again, the icon appears as normal - the correct icon for that folder. Why does this happen? Why does the icon display incorrectly when I drag the program directly to my Applications folder... this is what I am supposed to do isn't it (am a reasonably new mac user)?
    Thanks in advance.
    Nicola

    hey, i've been experiencing the same problem... i really hope that there is a better answer than "get used to it" b/c, like you said, if i drag the icon to the desktop, and then back to the applications folder, the icon appears normal without the "no smoking sign" circle and slash. also, the icons are normal in the finder window, but have the circle and slash when i click on the applications folder/stack in my dock and it opens in grid mode (when set to "automatic). just wondering if you've had any luck finding out how to fix this problem...

  • Inconsistent icon sizes within same folder view

    Subject says it all - each of the folders (as you could probably surmise) are just the extra documentation and such from some of the apps I use. But I don't know why the one folder's icon is smaller than the others in the same folder/view - that just strikes me as odd. Has anyone else noticed behavior as such?

    I believe that is a custom icon from the TidyUp authors....not something you can control unless of course you want to replace it....speak up if that's important.

  • Deleting Palm Tree Icon - Missing Photos

    I searched for a bit here but didn't find an exact answer to my question, so I thought I'd post a "fix" for an oddity that I ran into.
    I was recently using iPhoto (9.4.2) to edit some photos I had just imported on my iMac (OS X 10.8.2) and for some reason iPhoto crashed.  When I reopened it the photos I had imported were missing replaced by two palm tree icons showing zero photos in Events view.  Of course after importing I deleted them from my SD card - lesson learned.  Thankfully I was able to recover them from my SD card using Klix - phew!
    Now I was left with the two palm tree icons in my Events view.  I tried deleting them, but no response.  However I found a way to easily get rid of them.
    First I merged them to create one item, and then drug the icon to iPhoto's Trash file.  Done.
    Hope this helps others that find themselves in the same boat.

    I hope that any poor soul following this discussion reads this post and your's too:
    The receommendation you provided was exactly what I was looking for (right click top parent folder, select 'find missing folder'). For reasons which I don't follow, but which were almost certainly my fault, this didn't work on my first catalog. I have now moved my second catalog, and the 'negatives' into the places I want for them. LR tells me that the hard drive containing my negatives is off-line; each folder is labelled with a question mark and your right click recommendation works perfectly - thanks.
    As a result my second catalog is been set up in LR in about 2 minutes, compared to the 12 hours it took me for the previous catalog!
    So my advice for those who are going to reconfigure their set-up is as follows:
    1. Back up your catalog and LR settings/preferences/presets/plug-ins etc (following Ms. Bampton's detailed advice to be found elsewhere in this forum - or Google it)
    2. Back up your negatives (preferably TWICE - on different hardware devices, dummy!)
    3. Complete your system re-install. (Huh; that's easy for you to say....)
    4. Re-install LR.
    5.Decide where your catalogs should be (follow Scott Kelby's advice) and copy the .lrcat and .lrdata files to there.
    6. Decide where your negatives should be stored and restore your backups to that location.
    7. Open LR and point it at your chosen catalog
    8. In Library, open the parent folder where LR things your negatives are (assuming that they are now in a different place). The sub-folders will be prefaced with a question mark.
    9. Right click on each question marked sub-folder, choose the 'find missing folder' option, navigate to the new folder location and select the relevant folder.
    10. Repeat step 9 for all sub-folders.
    11. Back-up/optimise/tune the catalog. and you are now ready to revert to your normal work-flow

  • Desktop drive icon missing for just one of several USB external drives

    I have a Mac Mini running OS 10.8.2 Server. There are 12 Seagate Flex USB drives (attached through two USB 2.0 powered hubs) and 3 Western Digital Firewire drives, and until last week all functioned absolutely normally. Last week the desktop icon for one (just one!) of the Firewire drives dissappeared, but the drive is still mounted in /Volumes. It is even correctly shared and can be remotelly accessed on another Mini and a MacBook. Disk Utility shows that it is mounted, and the Repair Disk function unmounts, checks, reports all is well and remounts. I'm just missing the icon in Finder.  Where is it?
    Before you suggest it.... Yes, hard disks is checked under Finder Devices preferences. All the other drives do show as expected in both the root folder view and on the Finder sidebar. This one drive is mounted and visible in ls -ls /Volumes, but missing from desktop, root folder and sidebar in Finder.

    I am having the exact issue with both 10.8.5 and 10.9.1 servers.
    The server is doing well and then one day without notice or failure the desktop icon for the shared volume is gone. The share remains mounted and available to users. The volume is not showing damaged or any other problem. The volume can be found in terminal and by doing a finder go to the /Volumes area and all is there. But, even though disk utility shows it mounted and all else is good, Server app then starts to loose the volume for maintenance and propogation etc, it still shares but can't be seen or touched by GUI's.
    I also was easily able to get back all through Backups that were up to date so no data loss, but this is quite disconcerting.
    One possible variable is that both that I have seen are software RAIDs (Disk Utility raids).
    If anyone has any thoughts I appreciate it.
    The two servers are Mac Pro 2012 4 core 10.8.5 server and Mac Pro 2008 early 4 core 10.9.1 server.
    Thanks MDB

  • PI 7.11 sp6 Integration Builder - folder view error

    Experts,
    We recently installed SAP NW PI 7.11 (ehp1) up to sp6.  This is a new install.  We did all the wizards, etc and things are basically ok.
    we execute SXMB_IFR, then go to "integration builder" link and login.
    If I change the view from "object view" (icon of 2 people) to "folder view" (icon of folder), we get the following error:
    class com.sap.guid.GUID:library:core_lib at com.sap.engine.boot.loader.ResourceMultiParentClassLoader at 2353f67e at alive incompatible with interface com.sap.aii.ib.bom.gen.XiReference:sap.com/com.sap.xi.directory at com.sap.engine.boot.loader.ResourceMultiParentClassLoader at 79c008cf @ alive
    I found this note, but it does not quite describe my problem:

    I searched all through SDN and OSS, nothing yet.  I'm going to put in a message but I was wondering if anyone out there has seen this?
    Thanks!

    experts,
    FYI, ready my problem details but I wanted to add one thing.  Apparently were were at sp5 for a brief time and our developer did create some object while at that level.  He reported the issue since we moved to SP6

  • Duplicate folders NAME~1 appear in PSE9 Elements 9 Orgainser folder view

    I am running Photoshop Elements 9 (PSE9) in windows7 and I am having a problem of apparently empty duplicate folders in Organiser's folder view (thumbnails on the right, Windows Explorer type folder list on the left).
    A new apparently empty folder structure has appeared on in the folder view, identical to my main set of photo folders but containing no thumbnails and with a truncated folder name, eg DigitalPhotos becomes Digita~1 and FamilyandFriends becomes Family~1.  If I delete any of the apparently empty subfolders in the duplicate folders, it deletes all the real jpgs from the hard drive and they show up as a missing file when I click on the proper thumbnail in the proper folder. It would appear to me that the catalog is referring to the same underlying file at two points for my whole catalog.
    As the folders are apparently empty there is no ability to use the delete file option and uncheck delete file to delete only from the catalog
    I have tried..
    - catalog optimise
    - catalog repair anyway (no faults found)
    - catalog repair rebuild visual similarity index
    - deleting the thumbnail file from ProgramData\Adobe\etc. then rebuilding all thumbnails (took hours) - I thought this had solved the problem when I checked very late last night but it wasb back when I turned on the computer this morning.  I am now questioning whether in fact this solved the problem or if this was my imagination/ lack of sleep
    They clearly shouldn't be there and I am concerned that double-links to the same underlying file will cause me corruption-related trouble.
    Any ideas?  I am really concerned the whole thing is going to crash on me and erase endless hours of work.
    Thanks
    Kimberley

  • Single click folder name to expand folder in folder view?

    As with prior versions, in [Windows] Explorer's main window, you can enable hovering to select and single clicking to expand the folder (but that is a pain in the rear when working with files). Windows XP folder view nicely allowed single clicking the folder name to expand the folder. Was that removed from Windows 7? Looks like the only way to expand a folder in folder view is to either click on the small plus sign or to double click on the folder name.  Or is there a switch somewhere I am missing? Thanks.

    "...Things are worse than that now... When you single click on a folder name in the folder list, the folder contents show in the right hand file window, as usual. But, when you use an arrow key to move to a folder name in the folder list, the folder

  • How to select a group of icons in a folder?

    This may seem dumb, but I'm a new Mac (OS X) user. In windows I used to be able to shift-click a group of adjacent icons within a folder to select them, in order to copy them etc. On my Mac, I can only seem to do this in list or column view, and as a visually orientated person, I don't find this helpful - I want to see the icons I'm selecting. How do I do this?
    Thanks,

    From the Help menu 'selecting items':
    +Click to select a single item. Drag to select a group of items.+
    +Press the Shift key and click other items to include them in the selection. Click a selected item to deselect it.+
