Icon of download folder

Is there a way NOT to have the download folder change its icon to the latest file in there?
(I'm used to things like that staying put, easier to find)

control-click on the Downloads stack in the dock and select "display as folder".

    Hi geezer,
when you open your 'Downloads' folder choose 'View'  in the Menu bar and choose:
    'as List'
    'Show View Options'
In 'View options' window you tick:
    'Always open in list view'
    'Date Modified', or
    'Date created'
Now inside the 'Downloads' folder click on 'Date Created' (or 'Date Modified')
column to get items alined from oldest to newest date (or reverse)…

If there are problems with updating or with the permissions then easiest is to download the full version and trash the currently installed version to do a clean install of the new version.
Download a new copy of the Firefox program and save the disk image (dmg) file to the desktop
    * Firefox 7.0.x: http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/all.html
    * Trash the current Firefox application to do a clean (re-)install
    * Install the new version that you have downloaded
Your profile data is stored elsewhere in the Firefox Profile Folder, so you won't lose your bookmarks and other personal data if you uninstall and (re)install Firefox.

  • Download Folder Icon

Recently, the icon, fan, grid, or any view setting for checking my download folder on the dock has stopped updating any changes made to it. If I delete a file from the Downloads folder, the icon or any view on the dock will still show the file listed as if it had not been deleted.

    Not a problem.
    1. Folder creation
Open your user home folder in Finder and from the 'File' menu, select 'New Folder', and name it 'Downloads'. Press return for it to register.
    2. Folder icon restoration
Now, with Finder as the active application, click on the 'Go' menu and select the 'Go to Folder...' menu item. In the window which appears, copy and paste the following line (no line breaks) and hit return.
          /System/Library/CoreServices/CoreTypes.bundle/Contents/Resources/
In the location which appears, double click on the file named DownloadsFolder.icns, which will open it in Preview. In Preview, type cmd+c to copy the image. Now, go back to your home folder and highlight the 'Downloads' folder which you created. Type cmd+i to bring up the info panel. Click once on the generic folder icon near the top of the panel to highlight it. Now type cmd+v to paste the copied image. It should now look like the original Downloads folder.
    3. Setting proper permissions
Open a Terminal window (/Applications/Utilities/) and enter the following sequence of command lines..
          cd ~
          chmod go-rx Downloads
          exit
    .. and then quit Terminal.
    Concluding remarks
And you're done. I'm not entirely sure if the recreated folder will function without issues. But as far as I can tell, for all intents and purposes, it shouldn't be any different from the original folder.

  • Downloads folder icons problem

    Hello
I´m a Imac newbie, and i´m having a problem with the downloads folder.
Now the icons instead of a images it showns as a square enclosed by a dotted line
    Any suggestios?
    Thank you

I think the problem is solved
When I delete the files from the downloads folder...  the problem is not solved.
Later when I wanted to delete files permanently from the trash, a message appeared:
"X file can not be deleted because it is being used"
(it was a big size file about 2gb)
When I finally unlock the file and delete it from the trash, the icons were recovering their pictures in all affected folders
Somehow it seems that the file interfered with the icons
I hope it does not happen again
    Thanks to all

  • Download folder (stack) on the doc does not have icon on it.

I just restored the download folder on the doc (after deleting it by mistake).  The folder that displays on the doc now is the correct download folder but it does not have the little download icon on it.  Is there a way to restore the picture that it originally came with?

  • Restore "Download" folder icon

    Hi,
I moved my Download folder to another partition and created a sym link in my HOME dir to that location.
The problem is that now in Finder, I see the Download folder with a "link" icon. Is there a way of restoring the previous icon ?
I tried dragging the icns file from
    System ▸ Library ▸ CoreServices ▸ CoreTypes.bundle ▸ (control-click) Show Package Contents ▸ Contents ▸ Resources
to the icon which is shown when I open the Info of the folder but instead os seing the original icon, I see a white icon with ".icns" written on it.
    Thanks,
    Tex

    No it doesn't work.
I Googled and found this page http://forums.macosxhints.com/showthread.php?t=83832
So there is a info.plist file which says which maps icons to elements placed in the Finder's sidebar (/System/Library/CoreServices/CoreTypes.bundle/Contents )
    <dict>
    <key>CFBundleTypeIconFile</key>
    <string>ToolbarDownloadsFolderIcon.icns</string>
    <key>CFBundleTypeName</key>
    <string>Toolbar Downloads Folder</string>
    <key>CFBundleTypeOSTypes</key>
    <array>
    <string>tDwn</string>
    </array>
    <key>CFBundleTypeRole</key>
    <string>None</string>
    <key>LSTypeIsPackage</key>
    <false/>
    <key>NSPersistentStoreTypeKey</key>
    <string>Binary</string>
    </dict>
I think what my system is now missing is the
    <string>Toolbar Downloads Folder</string>
and doesn't know what is my Download folder.

  • When I tried to move the Firefox icon to the folder after downloading the update, it says I do not have suffient privileges to do this. What does that mean?

I can't seem to complete downloading the new version of Firefox. I got to the point where it said to drag the icon to the folder, but then I got the message that I don't have sufficient privileges to do that. What does that mean and how can I complete the download?
    Thank you.

    You can ignore that.<br />
That is referring to the time stamp of the Firefox 6 file that is older than the time stamp of the Firefox 3.6.x release.

  • How can i make my Downloads folder icon in Dock bounce again?

I accidentally removed my downloads folder from the Dock and when I added it back onto the Dock, it would not bounce when i downloaded something.
Before I removed it from the dock, it would always bounce whenever i download something and the thing i downloaded would appear on the icon. How can I get this setting again?

Note if you don't have any folders on your Dock, note the trashcan is on one side of the dock with a divider between it and applications.  Minimized windows (with the yellow button on the upper left corner) will go between the trash and that divider.  You can drag folders into the section between the minimized windows and the trash.

  • Downloads Folder

    Hey everyone!
I'm sorry if I asked the wrong question in a wrong place. I really do not know where to got to ask this question. Here we go. I know how to change my icons on my Mac from Finder to the trash can, but I do not know how to change my Download Folder, and what not. I mean I know how to change it, but when I change the icon to a basket. The stuff I download are not in the basket. They are usually infront of the basket where you can't see the basket, or behind the basket where you can't see what I downloaded. How can I set it up where I can see the basket, and the stuff in my basket. I know this is a hard question to understand. Maybe some of you do know what I'm talking about, but I do need some help please. I would really appreciate it. Thanks!
    -Tyson

Are you talking about changing the icon that shows up in the Dock where the Downloads stack is? I assume you're using the method where you put an empty file/folder with the icon you want in the Downloads folder (not actually changing the icon of the downloads folder itself).
The Downloads folder is sorted by the date the file was added (so you can see the order in which you downloaded files). You can right-click it and sort by name to keep a certain icon in front (so the basket would show up above the others).
If you update to 10.5.2 or later, another method that might work better (but you wouldn't be able to actually see the stuff in the basket) would be to set the icon of the Downloads folder itself as the basket (Get Info on the basket, click the icon, copy, get info on the downloads folder, click the icon, paste), and then right click and Display As Folder. This will set the downloads Stack to show the basket (and only the basket, with nothing behind or "in" it) as its icon. When you click it, it would still pop out all of the files in the Downloads folder.

  • DOWNLOADS folder in dock... all of a sudden DOCUMENTS folder!

What the hayhay? Seriously... I was just getting used to the new download folder, and it magically switched to the "documents" folder. And, I have no idea where my downloads are now going.
    Help?
    e

Spotlight (the magnifying glass icon in the upper right of the screen) can help you find where your downloads have gone. Most likely they are still going to the Downloads folder, which is just a standard folder in your home directory (the one that has your login name in the Finder).
The Documents and Downloads icons in the Dock are just pointers to the actual folders in your Home directory. If you click and drag one of them away from the Dock it will go "poof" and vanish -- as you have just removed it from the Dock.
To replace it in the Dock, open up a Finder window showing your Home directory, and drag the folder you want (Downloads in your case) back into the Dock on the Trash can side of the Dock's divider bar. The "real" Downloads folder will stay in your Home directory and you will get a new pointer (a "Stack" view) of your Downloads folder in the Dock again.

  • I can't get in to downloads folder.

I can't get in to downloads folder and it's seem like i can't move or delete files in downloads folder what should I do?

With the Finder active, press the following key combinations, in this order:
    Shift-Command-H
    Command-3
    Command-I
The Info window for your home folder will open. Click the lock icon to authenticate. In the Sharing & Permissions section, you should have read & write access. If not, make it so. Select "Apply to enclosed items" from the action (gear icon) menu.

  • Downloads folder missing

Hi.  I accidentally deleted my fanned out downloads folder from my dock.  A plain downloads folder shows in trash but when I remove it and insert it in the dock, it dones not function the way the original does.  How can I get the other one back and have it fan out from the dock?

You are saying there is no Download folder in your Home folder? Just a folder icon with an arrow in the lower left. That's an alias. Delete it. Press COMMAND-SHIFT-N to create a new folder. Name it Downloads. Drag it to the Dock's right side. Of course nothing will appear until you put some downloaded files in it.

  • How can I change the view of Download Folder in Dock

I used to have my Download Folder in my Dock show up as a vertical string of icons with the latest at the bottom, when I clicked on the Folder. I recently had to drag the Downloads Folder back into the Dock after it had disappeared from there.  After doing that I now notice when I click on the Downloads icon in the Dock, it now shows up as a page full of icons.  I prefer the original vertical listing.  How can I change it back?
Hope someone can help on this one.  Thanks.

That's not an option. Under Display As, you have the view options for Downloads
