Someone did over in the AW forums. They said they tried it at one of the Apple stores and it was fine.

  • Intel Mac Mini stuck in reboot loop

I just upgraded the hard drive in my 2007 intel mac mini core duo. Drive formatted successfully, contains GUID Partition Table.
    OSX 10.5 installed successfully.
Machine rebooted, I ran software update to 10.5.7 successfully.
Upon installing Adobe Flash Player, Adobe Acrobat Reader, machine began to react slowly to commands.
Rebooted machine, went to Grey Apple Screen with spinning dash wheen icon.
Machine rebooted itself, once again going to the grey apply screen with the spinning wheel.
After about 15 minutes of letting the continual reboot cycle happen, I inserted the installation DVD for 10.5, held the power button in to power off the machine, and booted from the disk.
I ran disk utility. Disk Utility shows the hard drive, shows the partition (GUID Partition) correctly.
I Verified Disk, which verified as "OK"
    Repaired permissions.
    Restarted machine.
Once again, it loaded to the grey apple screen, stayed there with the spinning dash wheel for about 3 minutes then continued to reboot over and over (everytime it reboots it sticks on the grey apple screen for 3 minutes before rebooting.
I once again powered off the machine and reset the PRAM.
Machine stuck again on reboot cycle.
I powered off the machine and reset the mini's SMC.
Machine is still stuck in reboot cycle.
I have also taken the mini back apart and verified that all RAM and connections are seated properly.
Any advice on what to do at this point will be very helpful.

+And I promise I will not download and install a hundred different programs this time.+
    Good idea.
Any time you install software in OSX, there is a small, but finite, chance that the installation process won't be able to access a needed file because it is in use. This can mess up pre-binding, or even prevent files from being updated.
So the best advice is not to run any other programs while doing software installs or updates. And when in doubt, run DiskUtility afterwards and fix permissions one more time.
I cringe whenever I think of a post I read a while back about a Mac user who boasted about what music he likes to run in iTunes while doing system software updates. Not a good idea. It's "Russian roulette" with maybe 99 blanks in the "gun", but one real bullet that can kill your Mac's installation.

  • Can I use a Power PC non intel Mac Mini as an external HD with my iMac 3.06

Can I use a Power PC non intel Mac Mini as an external HD with my iMac 3.06 Intel Core Duo
I can't figure out how to get this to work. Is it possible?

    WildBull wrote:
Will it work if I connect via usb instead of firewire?
No. There is no "USB Target Disk Mode".
Just so we're clear, when you start your Mac mini in FireWire Target Disk Mode (TDM - holding T on startup), do you see a FireWire icon on the Mac mini's display? IIRC, it's not required that the Mac mini be connected to a display for TDM, but it would help diagnose whether or not the mini is actually starting in this mode.

*Firefox 4 versions and later do not run on a PowerPC Mac.
*Firefox 4 and later require at least OS X 10.5 and an Intel Mac.

  • Flash Player 10.2.153.1 upgrade not working on 64bit Intel-Mac in Safari 5.0.4

I feel robbed! I want to use my Safari.
The latest upgrade of Flash player does not work.
I don't even remember downloading it, it must've been an automatic update!
I can not play youtube videos nor can I play any games on Facebook.
Who knows what is not working in my Avid!! I have not been working on that lately.
The flash player still works on FireFox, but i have no intention on switching to that.
The first aid has been run a few times.
It will download the free flash player for Intel Mac and it says the install is successful, but it is not there.
I have CS4 and it never bothered or disrupted the free flash player before.
I uninstalled it just in case and nearly lost it! When I tried to reinstall Flash, it said my disc to was blank!
Luckily, a friend in the business of fixing computers was able to get that back! whew.
The flash player from the CS4 is showing up in a folder and will even open when clicked on, but it does nothing. It is version 10.0 r2.
When I go to the place where they say to "see what version of flash you have"
I just get that icon that says to "Get Adobe Flash player".
It down not show the suggested "missing plug-in" pictures.
Yes, I read there is compatibility issues with the 64 bit Mac, but it always worked before!!!
    Help!! Please!!

So the Shockwave Flash plugin in FF is Installed and Enabled. That's why Flash Player is working and why you were able to see the Flash Player logo animation. On the other hand, evidently the Shockwave Flash plugin is either not Installed in Safari or if it is it is Disabled. And that is why it's not working and you can't see the Flash Player logo.
Yes, I know Flash Player can be Installed in any supported 64bit OS. Also I thot that the 64bit browser in Mac was the "default" browser and the "Compatibility layer" had to be used. Similiar to the PC IE8 or IE9, switching over to the Compatibility feature in the browser.
Do you need to activate the Compatibility feature?  I have had other Mac users tell me that their problem was they were using the 64bit browser and found out they had to use the 32bit browser, so I thot it was something they had to do. I would think if it was automatic they would not have had to "do" anything. But like I said I don't use Mac so can only relate what they tell me.
With Safari on either of the test sites, no Flash Player version was displayed?
Look into the HD/Library/Internet Plug-ins/ directory and see if you have the below two files:
    Flash Player.plugin, flashplayer.xpt
After that see if this thread is of any help: http://forums.adobe.com/message/2725949#2725949

  • MPEG on Intel Mac

I'm just wondering if anyone else has had issues playing .mpg
files in authorware on an Intel Mac? When I try to play them I get
and error about 'unable to load external movie driver'. These
videos work find on non-Intel macs and they even play fine in
QuickTime on the Intel macs but when they are played through
    authorware I get the error.
    Appreciate any suggestions

Not yet having an Intel-Mac, I can't try this nor offer
    certain
    suggestions...
How are you trying to play the movies in Authorware? Using
    the movie
icon, I'd guess. And that should be fine...
But if that's not working, try the QT Sprite (Insert >
    Media >
Quicktime)? Just as something to try.
Since that would require QT to be loaded on the PC version,
    if it works
as a solution, you may have to setup two movies - one the
    movie icon and
one the QT Sprite - and play either one based on OSNumber...

  • Can't Migrate from G4 to Intel Mac Mini

    Hi
I have been unable to migrate files from my old G4 destop to my new Intel Mac mini. I wonder if anyone could help.
I first tried first using the migration assistant on the Mac mini and used the G4 as a fire wire drive. Failed twice, the process froze both times.
Erased Intel Mac mini and tried to do a restore from G4 using Disk Utilty. Failed twice. Didn't complete process.
I then tried the same twice using Supe Duper. Completed process (took hours) but in both cases couldn't boot Mac mini. Get the folder icon on boot indicating can't find system (I think).
I though I would then clean re-install system files from restore disks that came with MIni mac and start a fresh, but won't allow me to do this !! Spent two days and no further forward.
    Any suggestions ?
Would erasing Mac mini and and trying Carbon Copy Cloner work ?
Can I add files manually from G4 to mac mini ?
    Thanks in advance.
G4 ibook. G4 desktop, mac mini (intel)   Mac OS X (10.4.7)

Exactly which model G4 tower do you have? The
PCI-graphics G4 towers do not support FireWire Target
    Disk Mode.
If FWTDM works, have you replaced the hard drive that
came with the G4? Technically, Apple claims FWTDM
will only work with the OEM (original) hard drive
that came with the G4 tower. If you've replaced it or
added a second drive, it might not work correctly in
    "target" mode.
If you do have a new hard drive, you should be able
to put it into a FireWire (or USB) external hard
drive case and use the Migration/Setup Assistant to
    copy your files over.
If you're still having trouble, you can copy your
files over manually. Do you know which files you're
interested in copying? If your G4 tower works in
"target" mode, but the Migration/Setup Assistant is
having trouble, you can usually just drag all the
files and folders from your user's old home folder to
the new folders on the new computer. (Macintosh
    HD/Users/YourUserName/Pictures > NewMacintosh
    HD/Users/YourUserName/Pictures)
    -Doug
Yes I did change the hard drive to a bigger one so that may be the problem.
When I use the Traget mode I do see my "old" drive (both partitions) on my desktop so it suggests firewire is working.
Won't take everything across including applications, library etc.
Will let you know how I get on.
Thank you for your time. Geatly appreciated.

  • Printing issue when using Intel Macs to print wirelessly via Airport

We seem to have a problem. It has come to light since using Intel based Macs running 10.4.7 and Airport to connect wirelessly to the internet and to print to a Acculaser C1900N with intel printer driver installed. When setting up by Bonjour and then printing to the printer it fails and an exclamation mark appears on the printer icon in the Dock. Appletalk is enabled for the port, just in case you ask.
Browsing the internet works fine, but the printing side fails every time.
When we insert a Ethernet cable everything works fine.
As far as I can see its not a System Software problem related to old macs running 10.4.7, but to new Intel macs running 10.4.7. I have tried this on a Intel Mac Mini and also an Intel MacBook the results are the same.
Please has anyone got a solution as we start a new term with these new macs in about two days and printing is a integral part of school life.

I have just configured a new Airport Extreme and I have just printed sucessfully to our printer. Weird its just a Graphite Airport base Station Issue. I am not sure if the problem occours with the Snow Airport Base Station....Ill have to try that one out. I am so happy that it works you wouldnt believe it.

( this error message has happened before.) I am using Firefox 3 and also tried with Safari-- same thing.

  • Normal + 3 chimes at startup with intel mac mini

I posted this in the mac mini forum, but didn't get a helpful response. So maybe someone can help me here.
I have a 300GB USB drive (formatted as Mac OS extended (journaled)) connected to my intel mac mini with the drive's power on all the time. When I start up the mini after the USB drive has spun down I get the regular startup chime plus 3 lower volume startup chimes. The activity light on the USB drive flashes during the 3 chimes. Then the system starts normally with the USB drive icon on the desktop. I can read and write to the USB hard drive with no problems.
If I shutdown the mini and start it up again but now the USB hard drive has not spun down, I get just the normal single chime. Also, if the USB drive is disconnected, I get the normal single chime. I've tried a different USB port, but still got the same behavior.
I've connected a USB flash drive, but it exhibits normal behavior, that is, just the single startup chime.
Are the subsequent 3 chimes at startup OK and just telling me that there is an external hard drive? Or is there a looming problem? Has anyone else experienced this?
Intel Mac Mini Core Duo   Mac OS X (10.4.7)   Apple BT Mouse & Keyboard

Thanks. But the article says you won't hear the normal startup chime but some number of beeps if there is a problem with 3 beeps meaning no good banks.
I hear the normal startup chime, then 3 of the same chimes but at lower volume. Must be something about the USB hard drive.
When I bought the drive, it was formatted for windows with NTFS. I used disk utility to format is as Mac OS Extended (journaled). I've copied about 100 GB of data to it.

  • Shutterfly Export Assistant for Intel Macs

After successfully downloading/installing Shutterfly's Export Assistant plugin for iPhoto 6.0.5 I soon realized that the "Shutterfly" tab was missing from the iPhoto File/Export menu. Searching Apple's Discussions I found posts of Jan '06 that say that Shutterfly currently does not support this plugin for Intel Macs. In fact, one of the posts gave a link to a Shutterfly page (http://www.shutterfly.com/downloads/sys_req.jsp?sw=osx) which unfortunately states, "Note: New Macintosh computers using an Intel processor are not yet supported." Bummer. I sent email to Shutterfly requesting when their plugin will work. In the meanwhile, does anyone have current informtion that can be shared on this topic? Thanks!

Here is the response from Shutterfly on how to get their Shutterfly Export Assistant for iPhoto on Intel Macs to work. I personally haven't had time to try this yet but plan to soon.
    "Thank you for contacting Shutterfly.
We are sorry to hear that you have been having difficulties in using your plugin. We have heard from a few Mac customers that there are problems using the iPhoto plug-in on computers set up with multiple users. You can certainly try to use the plug-in, but be aware that it may only function for the main (root) user on the Mac by default.
To fix this, you need to go to the iphoto icon in applications, apple/click get info. go to the plug-in section, select the Shutterfly plug-in, click ownership and change it to everyone as opposed to a particular user. This will solve the problem.
Also please note that, there are two versions one for Intel Macs and one for Power PC Macs uninstall the one you currently have installed then reboot your computer go back and redownload the upload assistant and make sure you have the correct version for the processor your using. If you still find you are have these issues please give us a call at (800) 986-1065 and ask to be transferred to technical escalation so we can help you further. • Firefox icon appears on mac desktop every time app starts

every time i use firefox on my mac, a firefox drive icon appears on the desktop. I have installed the program properly and a firefox icon is in the apps folder as well as in the dock. Yet, each time I am finished using it, I have to quit the program and then "eject" the icon from the desktop to get rid of it. How can I prevent this icon from appearing every time I open firefox? Make sure that Firefox gets installed properly.
Open the DMG file and drag to Firefox program to the application folder on your hard drive.

  • HELP WITH TRANSFER FROM IBOOK G4 TO NEW INTEL MAC

    HI
I just got a new intel mac and want to transfer all my stuff from my ibook G4 ... I tried the migration assistant, I plugged in the fire wire and turned on my ibook whilst pressing the T down. I get the firewire icon on my old machine but the new one still says 'waiting for old machine to restart' It just wont do anything when it gets to that point.
I dont think I'm doing anything wrong but the thing is gettting me aggravated to say the least.
    HELP PLEASE!!

Karen can't help there but wanted to warn you.
I did the same thing--iBook G4 to intel iMac, did a "transfer all my stuff" and had problems. At least one G4 program caused my iMac to crash at start-up (it was a special anti-virus program). Also some messy things like the iMac though it was on a wireless network after the copy (like my iBook was) when it was, in fact, on a wired internet connection (it still worked but I got errors in the console log). Just messy.
Once you get your problem sorted out I'd be careful about which programs I transfered over.

  • Will Intel Macs run all PPC software?

I'm thinking of buying a new MacIntel computer and running Quicken is an absolute necessity and Virex (7.2) a close second and I was wondering if anyone knows if they will run on it as neither is Universal.
Are there any applications that won't run on the Intel Duo chips?
    Thanks
It would be nice if there was a specific Forum for these kinds of questions.

    Hello,
Not all PPC programs will run on Rosetta, but most will.
Virtual PC is the only program I know of right off, that will not run on Intel Mac's. But, it's not needed as they can run Windows without Virtual PC.
Also, any program that installs a control / icon in the Preference Panel is supposed to fail as well.
Maybe someone can comement on one, but as far as
I know none of the virus programs have gone
Universal and work correctly on a Intel Mac.
    Norton Antivirus is Universal.

    I prefer the free ClamXav.
But, ClamXav is not as novice friendly as people are accustomed to. It is better as a limited scanner.
It's e-mail integration is not as friendly, and can be quite damaging if you make a mistake.
But, it's manual scanner, and folder watching scanner are great.
I have it set to monitor everything I download to my desktop.
With the reported problems, and less than friendly e-mail integration, I would not use it to scan incoming e-mail.
For a free antivirus program, ClamXav is great. But, for those who want the ability to just install and forget it, you'll be better off with a commercial program.
Many web-browser plug-ins are also not yet universal. So, you'll have to run Safari in PPC mode to use some plug-ins.
You can read about that at:

You can read about running programs in PPC mode at:
