Icon problems

So I am bored with my SL drive icon so I DL some icon files (like I have done many times in the past) and copy them over to my drive icon. Problem is the ones I want to use .ico files or .png files seem to be weird. While I can see their icon in the finder, if I click get info on them the icon in the upper left corner is the generic image icon with the photos and jewelers loop. Here is an example http://tmpro.com/auction/Screen%20shot%202009-12-31%20at%207.00.25%20PM.png
I am not sure what is going on but these files need to be .ico format to have the transparent background I believe and while I can make a jpg version and it works it has a white square around it kind of killing the desired effect.
I use to do this all the time before Snow Leopard with no problems. Of course back then I could see the "preview" of the icon in the upper left corner of the "get info" window as well.
I even tried loading a png version of the file into Photoshop CS3 and saving back out as PNG but it has the exact same issue with the "get info" window.
Needless to say when I paste this into the drive icon I get the generic image icon for the drive.
Any ideas?

Again ( http://discussions.apple.com/message.jspa?messageID=11068179#11068179 ) this set of instructions repeated from Apple's Mac 101 Support ( http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2493?viewlocale=en_US ), doesn't work. At least on my case, and many other reported ones.
There's nothing on Preview or the ICNS file, be it inside the APP file or copied to outside of it, that I can use to either copy n' paste or drag n' drop to the APP file, or any other file.
It will just set the icon as a Preview ICNS, just like the icon from the original ICNS file's info.
Instead, the only solution I've found, is using icns2rsrc.app found on versiontracker or elsewhere free on the net. I would love to know why some people insist in this method, tho. Does it work to you Andrew? If it does, could you track down to why and how? I'd love to see it.

  • Icon Problem vs Warranty

    The icon problem happened to me and after trying everything I put it in a Apple dealer. Is this type problem included in the Warranty? The product just had 3 weeks and it stoped working properly. The dealer says I have to pay the repair.
    Thank you.

    I've also tried that. The iPod is already in repair and the retailer said I had to pay, I was just seeing if I had the right to argue on this subject. Guess not.
    Thank you for your help. It's a shame that so many people are having these problems and Apple still has no answer.
    Well hope the next one to buy has more luck or chooses another product.
    Thank you once more.

  • Crystal Reports Viewer - pdf, prompts, icons problem

    Hi all,
    I am a new in BO.
    I have some answer about Crystal Reports Viewer (not about setup.exe but about CRV application that I uploaded on Tomcat)
    1) The old version (11.5) works good, only Export to PDF functionality is wrong. There are in the pdf file wrong display of specific czech characters (charset)
    2) A new version, Crystal Reports Viewer 2008, show the same pdf mistake. I have J2SE Runtime Environment 5.0 Update 4 and Apache Tomcat 5.5.9.
    I upload application on Tomcat, configuration (web.xml, crconfig.xml and context.xml) is the same with version 11.5.
    Crystal Reports Viewer 2008 displayed reports, but the problem with PDF is present. The second problem is the look of CRV. First one, the icons (for export, print...all icons) are not displayd. I can copy old jar files into java (in application folder C:\WebReports\WEB-INF\lib), but then CRV looks like old version.
    And CRV 2008 doesn't display listbox in dynamic prompt on crystal report. What shall I set to displaying prompts in CRV 2008 (on CRV or on report in Crystal 2008)?
    Have you some idea? What and how can I set and configure application and where?
    Veronika

    Hi,
    To confirm, are you talking about "Crystal Reports Viewer 2008" http://www.sap.com/solutions/sapbusinessobjects/sme/reporting/viewer/index.epx
    I suggest sending in the report, in the viewer, select "Help" - "General Feedback" and then pick the option to attach the report.  In a couple of months there will be a refresh version of this view which will have Czech language support so it would be good if we could test out your PDF issue.
    As for showing parameters in the prompt panel in Crystal Reports Viewer 2008, since the viewer cannot refresh the data, make sure the parameter does not used in the record selection formula but only in the saved data selection formula.

  • Ios 7 icon problems still persist in air 3.9.0.1030

    In the release notes of air 3.9.0.1030 sdk it says:
    Notable bug fixes:
    [3622405] [AIR] [iOS7] - iOS7 requires 5 new icon sizes: 76px, 120px, 152px, 40px, 80px
    But i cant still select those icon sizes when publishing? is still being any problem?

    You can edit the xml then compile with command line. But I am still having a few tweaking issues but it should work this way.  But yes I hope we get a new build soon.....

  • Icon problem in photoshop cs4

    when I place a tool icon  such as the move or hand over a picture it shows up three times exp: ( ### )
    how can I correct this problem?  to show only one exp: ( # )  using Photoshop  cs4

    It has to do with your text size.  This should help.
    Solution: Change the Windows text size to 149% or 151%.
    To change the text size:
    Choose Start > Control Panel > Appearance and Personalization > Display.
    Choose Set custom text size (DPI) in the menu on the left panel.
    Type in 149 or 151 into the Scale to this percentage of normal size field.
    Press enter and click OK.
    Choose to log off and then log on to make the change.

  • Firefox icons problem.

    I create and run my application in Forms 10.1.2.
    Running it using MSIE it works fine, using Firefox I've a problem with "greyed" menu icons.
    When I run it all disabled icons in my menubar are crunched.
    I prefer firefox because it's, by far, faster.
    Is it a known problem ?
    Is there any workaround ?

    I peeked inside frmmain.jar and found the following, which appear to be the SmartBar icons:

         oracle/forms/icons/prvrec.gif
         oracle/forms/icons/pset.gif
         oracle/forms/icons/save.gifI suggest that you create a simple test menu bar that uses Oracle's icons, like the ones listed above. (They can be specified using short names, like canqry,copy,cut,delrec,ellipsis, etc.). Be sure to disable some of the menu items, since you mention that disabled items exhibit the problem you are having.
    If this menu bar displays correctly, I would conclude that the format of your images is somehow confusing Oracle. A quick thing to try would be to extract one of your images, open and resave it using a graphics program (e.g. Microsoft Photo Editor, Adobe Photoshop or PhotoDeluxe, etc.), rejarring and retesting. A more thorough approach would be to compare the properties of Oracle's images with those of your own (most graphics programs allow you to view file/image properties.)
    Hope this helps,

  • ShowDetailHeader icon problems

    I have created my own skin, and I have a problem with the showDetailHeader component, it doesn't render the header icon. With oracle skin the header icon appears, but with my skin it doesn't. It also doesn't appear in simple skin.
    Any idea how to solve this?

  • JTree node lazy loading + icons problem

    Hi all,
    I need to build a large tree (10000 nodes). Since this is large to load all at once, i want to load the last level dynamically using the 'treeWillExpand'
    Level 1
    --Level 2
    ---Lever 3
    ----Node loaded dynamically 4.1
    ----Node loaded dynamically 4.2
    ----Node loaded dynamically 4.3
    What i do is, i load all nodes in level 1,2,3 when application is initially loaded. In the Level 3 node, I add 1 dummy child node. I call it 'Waiting ...'. This I do because I want to display the 'handle' next to Level 3 node. Later on, when i click on the Level 3 'handle', I use this 'treeWillExpand' code:
    private void TreeWillExpand(javax.swing.event.TreeExpansionEvent evt) throws javax.swing.tree.ExpandVetoException {
            path = evt.getPath();
            //3 - Level 3
            if (path.getPathCount() == 3) {
                //here I get rid of the 'Waiting ...' node
                computerNode.removeAllChildren();
                //here I add all level 4 nodes
                Iterator it = ArrayList.iterator();
                while (it.hasNext()) {
                   .. here i load all Level 4 nodes
    Questions:
    1.
    Is the approach above a good approach, how to load children 'lazilly'?
    2.
    I also use custom renderer to display different icons for every "tree" level. When I initially expand the 4th level, everything works fine !!! Then I collapse the 4th level and expand it again and here my problem starts:
    - my 4th level icon is set to 'root level icon' instead of '4th level' icon. This does not happen, if computerNode.removeAllChildren(); method is removed from listening above
    My custom renderer:
    class MyTreeRenderer extends DefaultTreeCellRenderer {
        Icon rootIcon;
        Icon siteIcon;
        Icon computerIcon;
        Icon computerUnscannedIcon;

            super.getTreeCellRendererComponent(
                    tree, value, sel,
                    expanded, leaf, row,
                    hasFocus);
            //we can draw 4 icon types here
            DefaultMutableTreeNode node = (DefaultMutableTreeNode) value;
            String nodeType = (String) node.getUserObject();
            int level = node.getLevel();
            if (level == 0) {
                setIcon(rootIcon);
            } else if (level == 1) {
                setIcon(siteIcon);
            } else if (level == 2) {
                //make difference between scanned and unscanned computer
                if (node.getDepth() > 0) {
                    setIcon(computerIcon);
                } else {
                    setIcon(computerUnscannedIcon);
            } else if (level == 3) {
                setIcon(softwareIcon);
            return this;
    }Any idea, what am i doing wrong?

    and for all this nodes i have to make compares.
    is there a way to force the DefaultTreeCellRenderer to not run the entire tree???
    Thanks

    You need to make sure that your TreeModel interprets your group nodes to be non-leaf nodes (one of the methods in the TreeModel interface is called isLeaf). If you are using a DefaultTreeModel with DefaultMutableTreeNode objects, you can use the askAllowsChildren property of DefaultTreeModel and the allowsChildren property of DefaultMutableTreeNode to control this. See the API for more details:

  • Icon Problem

    In the past week or so I have had this problem on a sporadic basis.
    There are times that my desktop icons (alias') become non functional. Finder works. Dock works. Opening applications from the application folder works.
    Just the desktop icons stop working. The only way I have found to correct this is to restart.
    Any ideas??

    I'm having intermittent icon-stops-working problems, on the dock. I never thought to restart, to see if they'd work all of a sudden. Impatient, I just deleted them from the dock, found the orig source spot, aliased it, shortened the name of the alias and dragged it to the dock. This has been a hassle. But I still find myself doing it, when I see the question mark superimposed on a dock icon.
    [I need to know whether the following needs a new topic, though it is related:]
    (Now that I've replaced icons for documents and downloads, they never fan or grid anymore. And I liked the curved fan especially. I'd like to see the grids and fans return, but they never are there any more. )

  • Icon problem in 10.6.7

    Since i updated to 10.6.7 i have the following problem.
    Fonts get weird, and icons disappear randomly. Whats up?
    And what is Apple doing about this update?

    Normally indicates corrupt fonts and a mucked up LaunchServices database. For the former, launch Font Book, select all fonts, and validate them and resolve all duplicates. For the latter, launch the Terminal app, copy & paste this one liner into the window that pops up, hit the return key, quit the Terminal app, and restart:
    /System/Library/Frameworks/CoreServices.framework/Versions/A/Frameworks/LaunchSe rvices.framework/Versions/A/Support/lsregister -kill -r -domain local -domain system -domain user

  • Navigate icon problem (go back)

    Hi,
    I am having some problems with some navigation icons that has
    been set up with the destination to “recent” and the
    page to “go back”. The way that I am using them is to
    move around a menu window. For example, the first option in the
    menu is like an introduction but once in that window it is possible
    to go to another option from the menu. This is why I set up some
    navigation icons, just to move back to windows I was before. Now my
    problem is that once I use the navigation icon and then go to
    another option in the menu, when I use the navigation icon in a
    different window the piece jumps to the windows that I used the
    navigation icon for the first time, not the window where I was
    before. And if I keep checking all navigation icons in every window
    related to that menu, they keep accumulating before I get to go
    back to the slide I begin with, in other words, I have to keep
    clicking in all the back buttons in order to get to the first
    window.
    I’ll appreciate any ides on how to fix this problem
    Thanks
    -Nando

    how about a home button that takes you direct to the first
    window.

  • HOME screen icon problems

    On a web page everytime i click the + button to add it to home screen, it works but now all my icons for each one i bookmark are the same. They used to be snapshots of the webpage mostly or an official icon like google etc. Now its a set of weights for the icon which is annoying as now i ave about 7 with the same icon.
    Any help would be appreciated

    Here is the problem. If the web site does not have a custom made icon in the 'root' directory of their web server, the icon will look like the web page you are bookmarking.
    If you want to add an iPhone/iPod touch Home screen icon for your website, create a 57x57 pixel .png image file, name it "apple-touch-icon.png" and upload it to the 'root' directory of your server.
    Here is one I created for Macsimum News.
    Here is what it looks like on the screen. The iPhone/iPod touch automatically scales the round corners on the image.

  • J2ME Icons Problems

    I bought "Beginnign Mobile Game Programming" by Michael Morrison, and I'm working through his very first program example. Its a basic MIDlet that displays the color depth, alpha levels, screen size, and free memory on the screen.
    My problem is that it has an icon that I can't seem to get the program to display beside the name of the MIDlet in the list when I run the app on the KToolbar Emulator. I think its a problem in my Manifest.mf file so I'll post it now:
    MIDlet-1: Skeleton, /icons/Skeleton.png, Skeleton
    MIDlet-Description: Skeleton Example MIDlet
    MIDlet-Name: Skeleton
    MIDlet-Vendor: NewJunk
    MIDlet-Version: 1.0
    MicroEdition-Configuration: CLDC-1.0
    MicroEdition-Profile: MIDP-2.0
    The book tells me to repackage every time I rebuild the project and I do. I still can't get the image to display. Its the required 12x12 pixel image. Just a black and white Skull like the book has. I've copied it all letter for letter trying to find a syntax error, but I can't!
    Any help would be great, thanks!

    i dunno, but i think it will be much more easier using NetBeans.
    just right click your project once it is opened there and go to properties. just add the location of your icon in the libraries section so that when you want to change the icon of your program, i think just go to the Midlet section and click the icon logo.. the logo that you have created will be there.
