Icon Shown On Top-Left Of Get Info

Believe me, I've searched for an answer.
Take to jpeg photos. Use 'Get Info' for both. One shows the actual photo on the top-left, the other one shows a 'Preview' icon. Why the difference? What do I need to do, to have the actual photo shown?

After spending a couple of hours of looking at various photos for some reason for this discrepancy, I've noticed that if the photo's icon does not have the white border around it, I'll have the same photo showing at the top of the Get Info display. If it does have the white border around it or the icon is not showing the actual photo, but the generic icon, the same generic icon is at the top of the Get Info display.
I also have a collection of icons of photos that have a black border around them. They also show the actual photo at the top of the Get Info display.
The white border around the icon, appears to be the problem. If it has no border or if the border is black, everything is copacetic.

Hey, my moms ipod nano won`t sync to her computer. Now it has a lock icon in the top left corner and i can`t get it to go away. Can anyone help me?

I assume you have made sure the hold switch along the top of the Nano is set to Off?
If none of the 5 R's are able to resolve the issue, it's likely a hardware issue, meaning you'll need to have the iPod serviced/replaced either by Apple or a third party service.

Firefox supports Vista so that shouldn't be a problem. What version of Firefox are you attempting to install? (From the tags on this ticket it looks like 19.) Can you share the link from which you downloaded Firefox? Did you get it from http://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/new/

  • I just downloaded Firefox 4 but there is no "connection scale" on the right hand bottom of the screen and no icons on the top left of the screen like a "home" for home page etc. top

On the old Firefox 3.0 I had a 'connection scale" on the bottom right hand corner (just above the time) which shows you the extent of connection. I also had icons on the top left hand corner of a 'home' for home page...etc. On Firefox.4.0 these are missing. Can they be obtained by the "settings"?

I'm not sure what you mean by "connection scale". If you are referring to the padlock, this has been replaced by the site identity button, for details on using it see https://support.mozilla.com/kb/Site+Identity+Button
The Home button by default has been moved to the right hand side of the navigation toolbar, you can move it back. For details of how to do that see https://support.mozilla.com/kb/how-do-i-customize-toolbars
If any buttons are missing, you can restore them as shown here - https://support.mozilla.com/kb/Back+and+forward+or+other+toolbar+items+are+missing

have a problem with my MacBook Pro.5,3 and monitor.  Intermittently, the desk top screen becomes broken up into vertical sections, which appear in the wrong order, creating a haphazard picture.
The Apple icon, usually at top left corner, appears in top right corner  in a strip including all that left hand.  When the computer is restarted, the screen goes back to normal.  But I have to move the mouse to the far left of the screen and then up until it reappears on the far right hand side of the screen so that I can hit shut down button.
It seems to happen randomly though always on desk top and sometimes when I move mouse and computer switches on from rest mode.   My large flat screen is relatively new.
The video card on this computer, which is approximately two years old, is Nvidia FeForce 9400M.
Any help would be welcome as my usual source of assistance is not available and I am not well versed in workings of the Mac although I have used one for many years.

That sounds like a Hardware problem.
You may be able to confirm that with Apple Hardware Test, or make an appointmenst for a free Genius Bar evaluation.

    hi

Since about 2 weeks ago for no apparent reason, the internet on my iPad suddenly stopped working (when I open Safari, it says: "Safari cannot open the page because it is not connected to the Internet"), even though the Wifi icon in the top left corner still shows full signal. However, I noticed when I went into Wifi settings (Settings>Wifi) that there is no checkmark next to my network name (only the spinning circle icon, as if it's trying to process something). This only happens at home (I can browse the internet while connected to  Wifi at university). My other Apple devices (MacBook Pro and iPhone 4S) work perfectly fine at home.
I've tried resetting my router, restarting my iPad, resetting Network Settings on my iPad, and tried following Hynes' instructions on this thread:https://discussions.apple.com/thread/2453187?start=15&tstart=0, but nothing has worked so far (although I have to admit that I found the instructions on that thread somewhat confusing, so there is a chance that I accidentally did not follow them properly).
Could someone please help? It'd be VERY much appreciated.

You cannot directly. If you have a jFrame (e.g.) with your own icon you can use one of the JDialog costructors using (Component owner, ... ). Then the dialog will display the same icon.

  • Icon Stuck in Top Left Corner of Screen

I have an icon of some sorts stuck in the top left hand corner of my screen. It's not really an icon, it's a tiny box and it was a box with a folder icon inside and when I would click on the folder it would show me the contents. Than I deleted the folder and now it's just a question mark inside a box and when I click it it says empty. I try to move/delete it but I can't. It's like stuck there. It's just a tiny square with a question mark inside. It's not part of the desktop though because when I swipe down with all four fingers on the trackpad to do Expose, it shows up as a program that's running but I can't get it off my screen. I tried restarting and shuttting down my computer but still nothing!

Press Command-Option-Esc and see what it's called in the window that pops open, you can Force Quit it from there but it also sounds like it's in your StartUp/Login items and should be removed from there too ? (System Preferences/Accounts - yourname Login items)

  • Document icon in Finder window differs from Get Info icon

I've been noticing unexpected document icons in Finder windows for quite some time.
This is especially true for PDF files. Since the early days of Mac OS X, I've configured my Macs to open PDF files in Adobe Reader, and I'm accustomed to seeing an Adobe PDF document icon on each PDF file. For some time, I've been seeing different PDF icons, e.g., a document with fuzzy text lines and a black ring binding on the left edge.
I thought this might be a custom icon. But when I do a Get Info on the PDF file, the conventional Adobe PDF icon appears in the Get Info window.
Is this different between the Finder icon and the Get Info icon a bug or a feature?
    -- Ward

It's a feature. Any window that has the View Options set to "Show Icon Preview" will do that. It actually is rather handy in a folder that is set to icon view, with nice BIG icons, you can often see the first page (which is what is displayed) clearly enough to recognize exactly what the file is. In List view it isn't at all helpful, nor is it helpful in those cases where you have icon view set, but the icons are quite small (as is the case on my Desktop, and, I suspect, on most people's Desktops). A pdf that has multiple pages will additionally show the "binder" along the left edge. The Finder is drawing these custom icons on the fly from the contents of the file. The only way to defeat it is to turn of the Show Icon Preview for the folder(s) where you don't want an essentially useless and often counter-productive icon. Do that from the Finder's View menu item, Show View Options. Oh, and every folder has different options for each view. So you can turn it off for List view, but have it turned on for icon view, where it might actually be useful.

  • New icons always at top left of window

When I create a new file or folder its icon is always created at the top left corner of the enclosing Finder window, even if there's already something there. In previous versions the icon would be positioned in white space somewhere, which was much more useful for me. I don't want to keep my icons sorted or otherwise automatically arranged, I'd like this behaviour classed as a bug and fixed.
I've tried this on other machines and it seems to be the default behaviour.

Hi, ueli — and Rev. Andy and Pam, should you happen to revisit this thread —
b>(1) Apparently, you're not alone. Other have expressed problems with this issue — several posts in Will Mardis' "Icons of downloaded files overlap is an example. But I've never experienced it (I seldom use icon, or list, view), so I'll reply as if it were brand new...
b>(2) Font compatibility? Is there any chance that a font compatibility issue is involved? You can check this using /Applications/Font Book, looking for duplicate fonts demarked by a "•" beside them and using Edit »» Resolved Duplicates. File »» Validate Font may also be helpful. From within Font book, Help »» Font Book Help explains...
    b>(3) View option settings?
I've just tried to replicate the behavior that I think is being described — and I can't.
I'll explain — just in case there's something helpful hidden subtly among my attempts that's helpful to you:
      (a) I created a new folder named "Testing" inside ~/Documents/ with "list view" selected
      (b) Since you've all mentioned icon behavior, I set its View »» View options as follows:
          • Icon size: 48 x 48; text size: 12 pt.; Label position: bottom
          • Show item info and Show icon preview are selected; Snap to grid and Keep arranged by: aren't.
      (c) I created three very simple TextEdit documents named Testing 123, Testing 456, and Testing 789.
      (d) I saved the first two directly into the "Testing" folder; the third I saved into ~/Documents/, then dragged it into "Testing."
      (e) I checked the folder after each "save." After the first file — which was naturally placed in the top-left-hand corner of Testing's Finder window — the other icons were placed ("in white space") at appropriate distances to its right. None overlapped, "took over" the left-hand-side, etc.
    (4) How are you doing this differently — if you are? Can you replicate what I've described — or help me to understand the problem definition more clearly?
I honestly don't understand why some folks would experience this consistently, others, intermittently, and yet others not at all — unless it's solvable. Perhaps Mac OS X Feedback or BugReporter (requires free ADC membership) would be appropriate.
    HTH!
    Warm regards,
    Dean

  • I reset my toolbars and now no longer see the "page back" or "page forward" icons on the top left corner of the screen

just loaded the new version of firefox. i went into "library" and told the computer to forget the mp3tube toolbar and it got rid of all the toolbars and also shows no search engine in new tabs, and has no page back or page forward arrows in top left corner of screen. how do i at least get the page back and forward function enabled?

Make sure that you do not run Firefox in Full Screen mode with all toolbars hidden.
    * Press F11 to toggle full screen mode (Firefox/File > Full Screen)
If the menu bar is hidden then press the F10 key or hold down the Alt key, that should make the menu bar appear.
Make sure that toolbars like the "Navigation Toolbar" and the "Bookmarks Toolbar" are visible: "View > Toolbars"
    * If items are missing then open the Customize window via "View > Toolbars > Customize" or via "Firefox > Options > Toolbar Layout" (Linux, Windows)
    * If a missing item is in the toolbar palette then drag it back from the Customize window on the toolbar
    * If you do not see an item on a toolbar and in the toolbar palette then click the "Restore Default Set" button to restore the default toolbar set up.

  • IPad home screen icons stuck in top left

Ok so I was playing angry birds then I quit and went to the main part of the home screen. But when I got there all of the preinstalled apps were in the top left. Intrestingly, they all worked fine, but I could position them anywhere (out of the usual restricted grid). The original icons in their original places were there, but I couldn't click on them. Although it is pretty awesome, the main home screen is pretty messy and I would like to know if there is any fix to it, since it isn't going by switching on and off etc.. Thanks for any answers in advance.
