Icon size in Mountain Lion

I just upgraded to Mountain Lion and it's great, but I used to be able to change the size of icons just by pinching on the trackpad and whatever the opposite of pinching is. I know I can't "right click" and bring up "View Options" and change it that way, but that's not nearly as convenient for as often as I use this tiny feature. It sounds silly, but I got really used to it for what I do for work and it's been annoying not being able to figure it out. Thanks for your help!

I guess you mean icons in the Finder icon view? If so, I know what you mean.  That was a pretty cool feature.
I believe the only other thing you can do now is to enable the status bar (command /, or from the View menu), and use the little slider that is there.

Which MBA do you have? It needs to be Mid 2011 or later for ML mirroring to work.

  • Icons fuzzy in Mountain Lion

Using Mountain Lion the past 8 days I notice that the icons (especially images, some photos etc) are not clear.  They are fuzzy!  For example, I go to my home folder and open the Pictures folder.  The icon for the iPhoto library is fuzzy --- and if I increase the size to 512 x 512 (i.e. the maximum) it is blurry and fuzzy and just awful!
Yet I open a photo file in FINDER just now with hundreds of photos and it is clear! (i.e. viewing the photo in the Finder is clear - might take a micro-second to go from pixelated to clear, but it gets very sharp, very clear).  BUT the other icons are super fuzzy, including some photo (.jpg) files.
It seems if I restart this sometimes gets resolved - but it is a problem I have NEVER had in Leopard, Snow Leopard, Lion…
Is anyone else experiencing this?  MacBook Pro-13", mid-2010 with Core Duo 2 and 8gb RAM.
Thanks for your comments, this is just weird and not acceptable---  a "bug" in ML?
    Best regards,

    Hello,
now that I read all posts here, I must confirm the critical point about ML. Maybe some users dont realize it, but on nearly 10 iMacs and two very new MacBooks (july 2012) at my work there is the same fuzzy icon problem. After a restart it is gone (sometimes), but it appears again when i update the app or change something in the folder with the unsharp blurry icon.
I use an iMac of 2008 at home, never had any problems with my icons until now. And I did a clean install of ML on an external firewire disk, but: same problem here. The older the icons are, the fuzzier they appear. I hope this could be solved soon. Wasn't this one of the main argument to buy an apple instead of a windows pc where icons disappeared and so on...
    Please excuse my bad english

  • IPhoto library doubled in size after Mountain Lion

Okay so I upgraded to Mountain Lion and the new iPhoto update that was released about the same time.  Everything installed fine and runs fine.  I noticed last night that my iPhoto library more than doubled in size.  I have a "referenced" library which allows me to keep the library on my internal SSD and the originals on the hard drive.  My library on the SSD was under 50GB prior to the upgrade but now it is about 115GB.
    What could be causing this?
I know the libraries for iPhoto and Aperture can now be the same but this increase seems unrelated since it is so excessive.  I started iPhoto with command/opton and used the "rebuild" library option but that didn't do anything to shrink the size.
    Anyone else notice this?
I even verified the size via Time Machine prior to upgrading just to make sure that I wasn't just thinking it got bigger.
    Thanks in advance.

Thanks Terence!  My thinking this was Mountain Lion related was incorrect.  I also at about the same time (maybe day before or after) started to sync photos to my iPad from iPhoto.  This slipped my mind or I didn't think it could have anything to do with the library growing.  The largest folder is about 65GB and it is the "iPod Photo Cache".
I assume that I can just delete this safely after a sync or just stop syncing photos this way.  It seems strange it would use so much space but definitely not worth it to me to lose 65GB from my 256GB SSD just for syncing.
    Thanks again!

  • Images turn pink when not at original size in Mountain Lion

Hi. My wife and I both have mac book pros running Mountain Lion (10.8.5). When viewing images both online and in PDFs, the images change such that they are overlayed with a semi-transparent pink rectangle.  Is this an issue with my Adobe programs or an apple bug? I have found no mention of this problem using google. Thanks.

    Back up all data.
Please triple-click anywhere in the line below on this page to select it:
    defaults delete -g CGContextHighlight2xScaledImages
Copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C.
Launch the built-in Terminal application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Terminal in the icon grid.
Paste into the Terminal window by pressing the key combination command-V. I've tested these instructions only with the Safari web browser. If you use another browser, you may have to press the return key after pasting.
Wait for a new line ending in a dollar sign ($) to appear below what you entered. You can then quit Terminal. Test.

  • How to change system font size in mountain lion

Have they came out with a patch to adjust system wide font sizes?

Have they came out with a patch to adjust system wide font sizes?
Not to my knowledge. One way of changing the size of the text is to alter the resolution. Admittedly it's a less than perfect solution but many on here seem to manage with it.
System Preferences>Displays - click on Scaled and select another resolution.

  • Address Book size under Mountain Lion is very big...

    Hi!
I've recently upgraded to ML, when I Backup my address book "File>Export>"Contact Archive" my 230 contacts become a 1.4GB file.
Is that normal with only 230 contacts? My old backup files are lik 70mb.
    Thank You!
    Nandor

Ok, I managed to get it down to 8MB vs. 1.4GB
    This is what I did,
    1. Backup Contacts.
    2. Turned off Contacts under iCloud, I selected Delete contact from Mac.
    3. Deleted everything under user>Library>Application Support>AddressBook
    4. Started Address Book, came up all empty nice and clean.
    5. Turned ON contacts in iCloud, in a few minutes I had all contacts with pictures back
    6. New Backup file size is 8MB
    I hope it helps someone.

  • Cannot get progress to show in app store download of Mountain Lion

Having to re-download Mountain Lion on my mid 2009 MBP from overseas. The ML app shows "downloading" in dock with progress bar under it (and just a hint of blue for hours now), but in the App Store on the Purchases tab it just shows the Mountain Lion app with a gray "Download" button. I want to see the progress of the download since I'm overseas and it could take a couple days. If I click on the "Download" button it goes clear for a minute but goes back to the gray "Download". I've tried closing and re-opening App Store, restarting the computer and I've also tried doing it all in Safe Mode. No difference. I can't be sure something is actually happening without a progress meter. Any ideas out there?

There may be no apparent "progress bar" in the App Store. It may be a bug associated with this particular download. Unfortunately I am not in a position to determine if this is related to you being overseas or not.
To determine if it is actually downloading use Launchpad. You should see a fairly obvious new icon with an associated progress bar. Make sure you check every Launchpad page by swiping left / right.
The downloaded file will also be in your Applications folder. When it finishes, it looks like this (Mavericks icons are shown; Mountain Lion is similar):
Check your Downloads folder. Before it finishes downloading, it will have a "progress bar" at the bottom. While it is downloading it looks like this:
If it's paused, click the icon to restart it.
Once it completes the icon will appear in Applications and Launchpad, it's just easier to find in Launchpad.
    Launchpad equivalents:
When it's finished it looks like this:
If it really is not downloading read Mac App Store: How to resume interrupted downloads
    Open the Mac App Store.
From the Store menu, choose Sign In.
Enter your Apple ID and password.
Click Purchases to get to your Purchases Page.
Click the Resume button next to the app name.
If that doesn't work, "sign out" of the App Store, and sign back in again.
If that doesn't work, try restarting your Mac.
If that doesn't work, write back.

  • HT2638 I tried absolutely every trick, from reinstalling Mountain lion and iPhoto to buying iPhoto library Manager. NOTHING worked

Your photo library is damaged or unreadable and cannot be opened. Please restore from a backup.
I went through all the repair/rebuild options when pressing cmd/optn and pressing the iphoto icon
I reinstralled Mountain Lion, ran software update, reinsalled Iphoto and ran software update,
I restored old copies of the iphoto library from Time Machine.
I bought Iphoto Library Manager and tried to retrieved and/or rebuild the library
ABSOLUTELY nothing worked and I still get this error message.
I went to the Apple store in Geneva and they told me that deleting Iphoto, reinstalling it and running software update will fix it. It didn't
Can anyone please help or shed some light on what could be wrong ?
OSX 10.8.2 and Iphoto 9.4.2 on Mac Pro 15 in

Library Manager opens the Iphoto Library and I can see all of the photos, about 12,500 of them. But when I open Iphoto afterwards, I get the error message again "Your photo library is damaged or unreadable and cannot be opened. Please restore from a backup."
I tried to create a new Iphoto Library using Library Manager, but LM was unable to create one as it needed to access Iphoto back and forth and Iphoto would not allow it access because of the error, therefore LM was unable to create a new clean library.
After opening the iphoto LIbrary within the Library Manager, I opened Iphoto and tried to repair/rebuild etc.. without success.
The problem first occured after I upgraded my Iphone to IO6.02 then I transferred my Iphone photos to Iphotos. I alo synced the Iphone with itunes.
Thank you for looking into this on Christmas day !!!!

  • When Installing  Mountain Lion, showing error and taking 8-10 hrs for download and unable to Install

    Dear All,
I purchased new Macbook Air.When I download free Mountain Lion is given by Macbook, which is taking 8-10 hrs to download a littile bit and showing error message, try again...but I could not download and Instal the same.again and again showing error message.when I download this Macbook is going to sleep mode and pause. How can I cure this?PLease help me.

Try turning off the Firewall in System Preferences > Security & Privacy > Firewall
Some ISP's have a download quota that limits download sizes. Mountain Lion is a 4.35GB file.
Check with your internet service provider. You also may need to upgrade to broadband high speed internet since Mountain Lion Recovery requires broadbaand access to the internet via Wi-Fi or an Ethernet connection.
Check Sleep settings in System Preferences > Energy Saver.

  • Just want to ask about the full screen icon that used to be on the play bar but seems to have disappeared since upgrade to mountain lion, any way to get it back?

Since upgrading to mountain lion I've noticed the full screen icon which used to be on the playback bar in quicktime has gone, I know you can go to the menus to make it full screen but if you're watching something online like with apple trailers I can't seem to make them fullscreen anymore, is it me or have they just taken this option away now?

I've been playing the trailers in my browser and the full screen option has gone for me,
As already stated, the icon was replaced by the "Share" pop-up menu icon in the same location.
and the command-f keys don't work either when I'm playing in a browser and it's truly only been since I upgraded to mountain lion.
Strange! It works for me. Here is a link to a screen recording of me wayching a trailer in Safari and later watching a trailer download. In both cases the trailer could be expsnded for full screen viewing and then reduced back to the size of the original 720p player display screen. If you can't do this then you may have a player problem also.
    http://downloads.walker4.me/downloads/Temporary_files/ScreenFlow_6.mov
Why did apple make these changes when they worked perfectly the old way, I mean if it ain't broke don't fix it!
Only Apple whould know for sure but my guess would be that other users may have requested the "Share" pop-up more. Makes no difference to me because I normally use the key shortcuts anyway.
