Icon size in Photoshop panels

Hello,
what's the recommended size for PNG icons (to be used in a Photoshop panel)?
In the CS5 version of the Photoshop Panel Developer's Guide they still uses 50x50px.
I asked to a friend of mine, who looked inside the application resources: she told me that icons are 128x128, 48x48, 32x32, 16x16.
If you measure a screenshot (like the one below), the icon border that appears when you mouse over is around 26x26 pixels.
Is there any official number buried in the documentation?
Thanks in advance,
Davide

This may be coming too late, but as far as I can tell, the panel icons need to be 23x23. If you make it smaller, they'll get scaled up. This info is based on my personal tests (my 21x21 kept scaling up) and digging through the default installed plugins. The Kuler icon is 23x23.

  • Icon size in Favorites panel changeable?

I'm using CS2 Bridge (1.0.4.6), a couple of steps out of date, and trying to make use of the Favorites panel. I understand how to get things into it (I'm dragging pictures to it) and out of it (only one item at a time, ASFAIK). The icon that goes with the file name is so small as to be pretty much unusable, and I'm left with a lot of file names like _DSCxxxx.jpg which is useless. Is there any way to change the icon size in this panel?
Click once opens the file immediately in PS, option click does nothing, ctl-click gives the remove/reveal choice.
Are newer versions of Bridge better in this regard?
    Ben

    Ben,
    >(I'm dragging pictures to it)
I had missed that earlier. The icons I was referring to in my previous post:
    >The size of the icons on that panel on my machine are
    very
    large
    are
    folder
    icons, not
image file icons. I now see that you would like to have larger thumbnails of your image files on your Favorites panel.
I have never, ever put anything other than folders there, and it never occurred to me that anyone else would. Obviously, I was wrong.
Obviously this clarification doesn't help at all with your problem, but I wanted to apologize in case I misled you win my earlier post.

  • Photoshop CC 2014 UI Menu Text And Icon Size?

so i really like that adobe has added the "experimental" option to increase the ui menu text and icon size in photoshop cc 2014, it was almost unreadable on my 2560 x 1440 27" monitor with photoshop cs4 and illustrator cs4, but the lone 200% setting is too big... seems that 125%, 150%, or maybe even 175% would be much better solutions. in fact, for reasons i can't quite understand, the ui text and icon size in illustrator cc 2014 is spot on, absolutely perfect on my monitor, even tho there is no option for increased ui size as far as i can tell, it was spot on the moment i installed and launched it.
in short, the photoshop cs4 and illustrator cs4 user interfaces were identical in size as far as i could tell, and far too small on my 2560 x 1440 27" monitor. in terms of cc 2014, the illustrator ui is perfect out of the box on my monitor, considerably larger than illustrator cs4, while the photoshop cc 2014 ui is identical to cs4, tiny, but can be enlarged 200% which makes the ui too big. why couldn't/didn't adobe just make the photoshop cc 2014 base ui the exact same size as the illustrator cc 2014 ui? it would have been perfect (for my monitor size).

thanks... just wish illustrator cc 2014 wasn't so perfect in terms of ui size, i mean it's just great and, consequently, makes it seem as if the ball was dropped with photoshop cc 2014... i mean how can one be spot on while the other be so far off?

  • How to customize size of "Swatches" Panel in Photoshop CS 4/5?

    Hello,
    1) Using the edge of the bottom right hand corner you can drag a swatches panel to a smaller or larger size.
The picture above was taken when the swatch panel's dimensions counld not be further dragged down into a smaller size. I want to reduce the swatches panel's dimensions to only show one row of small colour thumbnails to increase space of my workplace within Photoshop CS5.
    2) Also, I would be eternally thankful if any one of you could tell me how to assign shortcut keys for custom colour swatches that I select using the eyerdropper tool and save into the swatches panel.

You can collapse your panels down to icons, arrainge them in a single column, and dock them to the side of the workspace. Clicking on the icon will open the panel, and clicking again will collapse it back.

  • [SOLVED] KDE Panel - Application Launcher Icon Size

With the standard KDE panel, when I add an application launcher widget (it doesn't matter which one) the icon size of the launcher is too small. Increasing the size of the panel makes the icon get bigger to a point, but then it shrinks again. Is there a config file that I can override the icon size? I don't see one in ~/.kde4/share/config, is that the right place to look?

That was it! The "Panel" setting only changed the launcher icon. I guess I assumed that it would change all of the icon sizes, but so far it looks good. Thanks!

  • Photoshop panel scrollbars and size

    Hi,
If you take a look at some of the included Photoshop panels, like the kuler panel, it has a minimum size you can scale the panel. When you do this with a panel you created in Flex, even with the samples that are included with the developer guide, you can always scale the panel down as much as you want and the panel gets the flesh scrollbars.
How can I make a panel to acts more like the kuler panel and the built in photoshop panels? Is there a way in Flex to tall the photoshop panel what is the minimum size?
    Thanks...

  • Screen (Window) maximum size in Photoshop (ScriptUI or something?)

    Hi!
I can't get the right dimensions of the maximum screen size in Photoshop. Neither with javascript nor with Actionscript. I'm trying to use Window.maximumSize but when Photoshop is fullscreen-d, it returns the height value, as if Windows Taskbar is on, while it is not. (In docs it is said that the height value will be screen size minus 50, but in my case it returns minus 100 or like so).
I have to stick a panel to the bottom of the screen in every Photoshop state - so I have to know the size of the screen area. How can I do it the right way?
    Thanks!

The ability to programmatically maximize a frame was only introduced in JDK 1.4.
Someone posted an ugly solution that used the Robot class to programmatically click the maximize icon in the title bar. Search the forums for it if you want to give it a try.
Somebody else proposed to position the window at (-2, -10) or something like that to hide the title bar and make it larger than the screen to hide the the borders.
No real solution until 1.4, I'm afraid...

  • Small Icon sizes in Open Dialog Box

When I upgraded from Snow Leapard to Lion I was very impressed that the icon sizes in the File->Open dialog boxes varied in size (per folder) on how you viewed them in Finder. For example, I would set my Finder Pictures folders and contents to a larger icon size to see them easier, then when I would open Photoshop and use the File->Open menu option, the icons would be the same size as how I viewed them in Finder.  It was beneficial to have a larger icon to view pictures when I would use File-> Open in Photoshop to select a photo. Since I have upgraded to Mountain Lion, it seems this feature has gone away?? It went back to the way it was with Snow Leapard. All icons are really small no matter how you view them in Finder.
Is there a way to change the icon sizes in the Open/Save dialog boxes to be larger in Mountain Lion? Possibly using the command prompt? Please help?!

I've used the Quicklook to get a larger image, but it's still not as convenient as it used to be with Lion. I'm confused on why the change was made to go back to small icons as a default?  When using Lion, you could have the icon size whatever you wanted.

  • Xfce application menu plugin icon size

I'm trying to figure out how to make the application menu icon size larger than the window button icon sizes with the Greybird theme, just like it is for Greybird Classic in the picture.
I have tried the "panel-applications-menu" string in both my .gtkrc-2.0 file and in xsettings but it is either not being respected or I'm not using it correctly. What specifically controls the icon size for the applications menu icon size?

  • Icon size ('open file' window)

As a newcomer to ML, I have found that the icon size in 'open file' windows is far to small to identify jpg image files
I have increased the icon size that appears in finder windows when set to 'icon view', but this makes no difference

I have found a workaround answer to this in the 'preview' function activated by the space bar, but when using the File>open panel to select files for upload to a website, it only works on 1 file at a time
So I would still be grateful to anyone who knows how to increase the icon size

  • Gnome Topicons changing icon size

    Hello,
I am using the extension topicons to display tray icons in the top panel.
Yet the size of the icons is too big for my taste. Can they be reduced?

They could. It would be pretty simple if the extension made use of a CSS stylesheet as most gnome shell extensions do, but I'm seeing it doesn't have any. I just installed it for testing purposes, but did not even work.
Ask developer to implement a CSS: leave a comment on the site you just provided or look for developer's email, which should be written down in the metadata.json file inside the extension folder. You should be able to find that under  ~/.local/share/gnome-shell/extensions if you installed via website. Or ultimately, make your own stylesheet.css if you know the code internals (I really don't), and append it to the extension folder. It should not be very difficult since the main program (extension.js) is very short as it is now. Maybe someone else could help you write the css in less than a couple minutes.

  • Gnome: changing application icon size

Before gnome 3.10,according to wiki, to change app icon size it was necessary to edit "/usr/share/gnome-shell/theme/gnome-shell.css".
From upgrading to 3.10 and now with 3.12,it seems it doesn't work anymore and so I have to keep large icons on my shell.
has anyone experienced the same issue?

If you downsize the panel, the icons will be downsized too..
There is also the drawer applet, which can contain the icons...

  • [SOLVED] Gnome 3.16: icon size not remembered

Every time I open a new "Files" instance from the Activities screen, the icon sizes default to "Medium", despite setting them to "Small" using Nautilus' setting slider.
Is there anyway to set the icon size globally to "Small" which sticks across new instances of Nautilus/Files being launched?
Last edited by sultanoswing (2015-04-12 06:28:05)

When Nautilus is open, click on the top panel where it says "Files", then Preferences, and set the defaults.
I think it's another "by design" decision by the GNOME devs, just like the stupidly big "small" icons.

  • How do I turn off and on the icon size slider bar at the lower right status bar of a folder window.

I have been trying for days to help a friend with a new iMac to turn on the icon size slider bar that on my iMac appears at the bottom of ever folder when it is open when in the "view" > "icon" mode.  I cannot find anything that discusses this slider bar.  I can turn this status bar off and on on both my machine and my friends machine, but I cannot turn off or on the slider on either machine.

This did not help.  I am a Mac User since 1984 and generally I am never stymied buy the Mac OS, but this one has me.   I can open and close the lower status bar, as you described, and that works fine for me because I have the icon slider bar already there and it works fine; however when I open the lower status bar on my friends machine there is no icon size slider bar, and I can't seem to find out how to get it there, as it is on my machine or at all. The icon size can be controlled from the View menu, but as a photographer, it is really handy to have it at the bottom of the folder window.  Thanks for trying.
