Icon "sticks" to cursor in finder

When trying to drag an application icon off the dock the icon "sticks" to the cursor. Also, in finder windows the same phenomenon occurs when I attempt to move an icon to a new location.
Attempted solutions: restart with PRAM clear, reinstall OS X, clear system caches, etc.
No luck so far. Any help appreciated. Thanks.

Yes, now sounds more like a Finder problem... try this
Go to your Finder "Go" menu hold the option key and choose Library. Then go to Preferences folder and trash these files:
com.apple.finder.plist
com.apple.sidebarlists.plist
Then, restart, or log out and in again.
(You will have to reset a few finder prefs the way you like them.)

Icon Sticks to Pointer in finder

When I click on an icon in the Finder it sticks to the pointer and I can't release it or move it to a new location. This happens on the Desktop or in folders. I have looked for a solution but could not find it online.
I am using a Logitech mouse and a separate Apple keyboard with my MacBook Pro and I found that if I press down on the mouse wheel which is a button it solves the problem and it goes away.
I hope this post helps other people with the same issue.

Have you looked on the Logitech web site in their support section to see if others are experiencing the same problem. You can also check for driver updates.

When dragging mail to a folder in Mail, the msg sticks to cursor and won't let go

(found old post Jun 2012 by ColPanik but no replies)
Mail v.5.3, MacOS 10.7.5 on iMac Oct2006)
When I try to drag a msg out of Mail window to a particlar folder, the icon sticks to the cursor, won't let go, and msg won't drop into the folder. Icon stays stuck until I force-quit Mail. When I restart Mail, the icon is gone but same thing happens again if I try to drag a msg.
The Menu item "Mailbox/Move to Favorite Mailbox" works, but I have lots of other non-Favorite mailboxes!

Update: same thing was happening with Safari 6.1.1 when I tried to drag a URL from toolbar so could save a Webloc. Then I restarted my Mac and both problems went away. Sure hope it's permanent!

Quick Look icon doesn't appear in Finder window?

I've just installed Leopard, and have just read in the manual about Quick Look. Quick Look shows up in the drop-down File menu if I highlight a file or document, but it doesn't show up where it's supposed to in the Finder window, as an eyeball icon. I'm sure there's some obvious fix: can anyone explain what I have to do to get the icon to show up in Finder?

the easiest way to quicklook a file is select the file and hit the space bar. but if you want to call it from the toolbar the icon should be tere too. if it isn't, go to view menu->customize toolbar and drag the "eye" icon to the toolbar.

External hard drive connected and running time machine backups but icon not showing up in finder

My external hard drive has been connected for a couple of years and is using time machine perfectly. i am trying to save my iphoto library on the external drive but the icon is not displayed in finder. Only time machine icon is displayed......thanks for your help!

Did you create a second partition for your iPhoto Library or did you just use the same single partition that TimeMachine is on?

Not really sure what you want to do here. Finder "icons" can be set by dropping an "image" to the QT icon in the Finder "Information" window. On the other hand, "Poster Frames" can be set in either:
1) QT Pro: open file in the QT Pro player, move playhead to frame you want as "poster", use the "Set Poster Frame" View menu option set the frame, and save the file using the "Save" File menu option.
2) iTunes: Select the M4V file in the list, play movie until "Preview" window displays the desired frame, "Control-Click" the preview window to open the "contextual" menu, and select the "Set Poster Frame" option.

It doesn't make sense to me why they changed this. Can anyone tell me the reason for the lack of colour ?
On another note, can the the sidebar be changed back to the right hand side in preview (when opening PDF's). It has always been on the right in snow leopard and tiger.
It seems to me that their has been too many unnecessary changes in the Lion operating system.

You'd have to ask Apple, no one here would know - we are just users like you and aren't allowed to speculate on these forums. You have quite a bit of company though - many people preferred the color.
And, I've not found a way to put the sidebar back on the right side in Preview, but maybe someone else can chime in with that.

You need to try a reset on the phone. Contacts is a native iOS application and cannot be deleted. Reset the phone by holding the sleep/wake and home buttons together until you see the Apple logo and then release. The phone will reboot. If you cannot find it after that, then go to Settings>General>Reset>Reset Home Screen Layout.

Cannot move icons on desktop, or in finder windows

My mother in law creates unusual technical problems and then I go over to try to fix them. It's a fascinating part of our relationship.
This one stumped me. I click and drag on an icon (file or folder; doesn't matter). It highlights, but doesn't move. The mouse seems to behave in other applications-- though now that I think about it, I didn't personally test that and she might not drag much in Word.
Things that didn't help: restarting, repairing permissions, trashing .plists for finder and desktop.
Suggestions appreciated.

t sounds like a Permissions problem.
Are you logged in to the Admin account?
Have you run Repair Permissions?
Yep, as noted above, I have run Repair Permissions.
What happens when you try to drag?
Icon highlights, but doesn't move. The cursor simply moves away from the icon.
How are the Ownership & Permissions set for
the Desktop, the Admin Home folder, and
the Hard Drive, in Get Info?
I didn't check those. Presumably, Repair permissions would have set them to the correct value, right?

Get Icon of a Cursor!!!

Hi All,
I need the image icon used by java for E_RESIZE_CURSOR type of cursor. I need a JLabel having this imageIcon. I saw the source code of Cursor.java. Seems like, it loads images from jdk1/3/jre/lib/iamges/cursors for some exclusive types of cursors. I could not find any image for this type of Cursor and few others.
I can have my own icon on the label, but it would be nice to have exactly the same image.
Any ideas?

That wont work coz' first of all, screencapture does not capture the cursor and second to that, I want my cursor icon to be dynamic. i.e, if the user changes the cursor style from settings panel, the icon should change.
I did some work here. Actually, Windows OS has all the images for cursors in C:\winnt\cursors folder. Java cursor class maps to these images through. Therefore, when we change mouse pointer style from Control Panel, the cursor on java side also changes. I want to simulate this on a imageicon/jlabel.
