Iconia 8 ONE (B1-810) --- Inadequate Volume Range from Internal Speaker

Apologies for the lengthy post. I've seen this question posted before but never really answered in terms of a fix. So here goes: I own an entry-level Samsung Tab III but I'm totally new to Acer. My issue/question has to do with the narrow volume range (too low at max) for the built-in speaker. The built-in speaker on my recently purchased Iconia 8 ONE (B1-810) at max volume is half the output of the Samsung Tab 7, and roughly 3/4 that of a basic prepaid smartphone. I don't hear any distortion, buzzing or popping sounds to suggest the speakers are defective. It sounds clear, it just doesn't get all that loud. At max volume the sound level is fine for indoor use in a quiet room. It's not so good if I'm walking around a larger room listening to a podcast or audio book. Meanwhile, it's virtually unusable outside with any ambient background sounds whatsoever, even if it is relatively quiet (a light breeze, a couple of birds chirping, some distant traffic noise). I can have the tablet sitting right next to me with the speaker facing up and it can't be heard well in an outdoor setting where there are no walls to reverberate off of. (On the other hand, if I plug in headphones I am free to blast my eardrums out — it gets more than loud enough through headphones!)  I bought this tablet because it is bigger and easier to read. The HD screen is an improvement over the entry-level 7" Samsung Galaxy Tab III, which has a low-res screen. However, I don't like to be tethered to headphones. The only workaround I've found so far is to use an external speaker but that detracts from the portability and "get up and go" convenience (pretty much a deal killer for traveling with this tablet). Is there any solution for this? I listen to a lot of podcasts and audio books, and the built-in speaker ought to at least be adequate for that (I'm not expecting the internal speakers to do miracles for music!).  I don't suffer from hearing loss but I tried the Accessibility menu in the hope that there might be a workaround via an accessibility feature for the hard of hearing, but it looks as if the Accessibility options are for people with vision loss. I've also verified that there isn't another app installed that is overriding the volume. Finally, I tried a couple of volume-control downloads from the Playstore that didn't do much (although I'm still open to suggestions if anybody knows of a specific volume app that works). At this point, I'm not sure what else to do other than to ask if this is merely an Acer tablet characteristic — or a defect. Anybody else have a problem with these Tabs having a lower max volume output than their smartphones and/or other tablets?

I guess I was a "little" excited about the volume. I had a chat with Acer tech support and after a complete disk clean and reset and re-boot in safe mode, the volume is now at acceptable levels for a tablet. It's always good to let off a little steam to keep the tension from getting to high(blood pressure).So, for everyone out there: 1.Power off the tablet.
2.Press and hold the Volume up button, which is located closest to the touch screen lock switch.
3.While holding the Volume up button, press and hold the Power button for 3 seconds then release it. Continue holding the Volume up button.
4.Once the tablet screen turns on, stop holding the buttons.
5.On the Android system recovery <3e> screen, select wipe data/factory reset. Use the Volume up and Volume down keys to navigate through the menus and use the Power button to select the desired option.
6.When prompted to "Confirm wipe of all user data", select Yes -- delete all user data.
7.Select reboot system now. The above steps  do a very effective factory data reset.
 It will re-install the Android OSHave a great day everyone and HAppy computing.

    we have following situation- we had certain issues with the system where most of the data got curreptrd except data relative to procurement for dates March 7 to March 30.  We have extracted the procurement data - PR / PO etc for the dates March 7 to March 30 and we want to upload this data in the uncorrupted enviornment dated  March 6 using the old numbers originally assigned by the system.
    I need to change the configuration for PR and PO number range from Internal to external so we can upload PR and POsfrom March7 to March 30 and then swich the number ranges back to internal so we can enter new data dating from March 31.
    What is the best way to do this?

    Create external number range and assign  it to theno. range external in that Document type then you can use both internal and external number ranges for that doc without disturbing the system once completed remove the external number for that doc type. while creating the PO give the number you want before saving so that the PO will be saved with the number you had given.
    Note: Make sure that you are not using duplicate PO no already assigned

  • Internal Speaker Volume

    I have all of the audio settings set to maximum, but the volume of the internal speaker can barely be heard over any background noise in the room.  The volume through the headphone jack works great, so it doesn't seem to be a soundcard issue. 
    Does anyone else have similar issues?  I'd like to determine if this is normal, or if I might have a bad speaker.

    Same thing, I expected something better. I wanted to use for skype but I can't hear a thing even at maximum volume in a quite environment. It was supposed to compete with Ipad...but Ipad is much better . I'm disappointed.

    Hopefully one of these steps should solve the problem.
    1. Remove the headphone.
        If you see red light in the headphone port, plug the headphone
        in and out of the port 5 or 6 times to flip the microswitch inside.
        Sound output may be stuck in the digital mode.
    2. Reset PRAM.  http://support.apple.com/kb/PH4405
    3. Reset SMC.     http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3964
        Choose the method for:
        "Resetting SMC on portables with a battery you should not remove on your own".
    4. Applications > Utilities > Audio MIDI Setup
        Audio Devices window
        Side Bar
        Click the Built-in Output.
        Under Mute any of the boxes checked? If so, uncheck it.

    While the number of master pages is not unlimited, you can have quite a few in any file. I've never seen the limit documented, but it's in the hundreds, or more likely thousands. There is, I believe, a page limit of 9999 pages per document, but I don't know if that includes the masters or if they are counted separately.
    You can choose a page range in the Pages panel, then assign a master to them manually, and I beleive there are some scripts floating around that can assign a master page based on the appearance of a paragraph style (for chapter start pages, for example).

    I keep losing volume output from one of the Tracks from my Song Project. The Strings volume, at first, was there but, when I sent the Song to my iTunes Library the strings volume was absent. Can any help? I've experience this before on another project, where for some unknown reason I've lost the Orchestral Choir volume. Sometimes, if the volume on a track disappears, I close everything down & then restart-this temporarily sorts it out but losing a track in the final mix is a different problem...please help!

    1) My font size problem is over i have used the tablename.setFont(new Font("Arial",Font.PLAIN,20)).It does change the font size of the JTable contents but the JTable Header still remains the same.I want to change the font size of the JTable header as well.How to do it?

  • HFR Range from and to - Not working correctly for hierarchies?

    Hi All,
    Can anyone help me with my below issue relating to ranges in Oracle’s Hyperion Financial Reporting Studio tool.
    The issue I’m experiencing is that when I create a report and use the ‘Add Relationship’ -> ‘Range’ option for my month dimension, the correct months are returned as long as the start month and end month are not the same.
    In our setup we have 2 month hierarchies, one for the fiscal year (July to June) and another for the calendar year (January to December). The problem that I’m noticing in the report, is that when I enter a range from July to July, that instead of returning July, it returns July, August, September, October, November, December, January, February, March, April, May, June, July. My though it that it is looping through both the fiscal and the calendar hierarchies to return the range, instead of only the fiscal hierarchy. Both these hierarchies have the same members, however ordered differently.
    Does anyone know of a way to resolve this within HFR?
    I noticed that when creating the range, there is an option to ‘select a hierarchy’. At the moment there is only 1 choice ‘ Period’, however I’m curious if I could create and link a hierarchy to the fiscal hierarchy, that this might resolve the problem?
    Any ideas?

    IIRC Range uses the first (main) hierarchy - so you'll need to move the Fiscal year one to be first in the outline.

    How do I get rid of the volume noise that plays when I switch from internal speakers to external speakers? I'm trying to watch something on my TV through an HDMi cable (& apple adapter) and when I go to switch the sound control in preferences from internal speakers to SONY TV, the annoying "popping" noise occurs on my TV's speakers.

    Go to Edit > Preferences > General > Import Settings and check the box for error correction, and then try one of the problem CDs again.

  • Erratic Volume Output From Speakers (App notifications, keypad tones, Ringing Volume)

    Just purchased a Z1 over the weekend and was happily fumbling with the new phone. Got it updated to the latest 4.4.2 as well.
    Noticed a glaring problem with the volume output from the speakers.
    During use of instant messaging apps like Whatsapp and LINE, notification tones come in at times at the level that i set it at (max) and sometimes they come in really soft, to the extent i can't even hear them and sometimes none at all. All these happening when i've set the volumes to MAX on each of the available options under settings>sound>volume. Might i also add that the volume for notifications is really too soft even at MAX.
    I'm not sure if this is happening due to the updating of the software or it was already an issue prior to the update. I've seen a couple of posts online where some users are experiencing the same erratic behavior of the internal speakers. 
    I hope someone can shed some light on this so we don't judge too quickly on an otherwise excellent phone.

    My daughter has had her Razr for about 9 months now.  About two weeks ago she picked up her phone in the morning on her way to school when she noticed two cracks, both starting at the camera lens. One goes completely to the bottom and the other goes sharply to the side. She has never dropped it and me and my husband went over it with a fine tooth comb. We looked under a magnifying glass and could no find any reason for the glass to crack. Not one ding, scratch or bang. Our daughter really takes good care of her stuff, but we still wanted to make sure before we sent it in for repairs. Well we did and we got a reply from Motorola with a picture of the cracks saying this was customer abuse and that it is not covered under warranty. Even though they did not find any physical damage to back it up. Well I e-mailed them back and told them I did a little research and found pages of people having the same problems. Well I did not hear from them until I received a notice from Fed Ex that they were sending the phone back. NOT FIXED!!! I went to look up why and guess what there is no case open any more for the phone. It has been wiped clean. I put in the RMA # it comes back not found, I put in the ID #, the SN# and all comes back not found. Yet a day earlier all the info was there. I know there is a lot more people like me and all of you, but they just don't want to be bothered so they pay to have it fix, just to have it do it again. Unless they have found the problem and only fixing it on a customer pay only set up. I am furious and will not be recommending this phone to anyone. And to think I was considering this phone for my next up grade! NOT!!!!

  • Problems with volume control, built-in speaker on HP ProBook

    Recently installed Arch on a HP ProBook 4330s. Initially sound was working perfectly, but now I'm having problems with the built-in speaker.
    Using alsamixer in the terminal, I can independently control the volume of the headphone jack and the speaker, but it seems like the speaker is linked to the headphone volume instead of the speaker volume. Thus raising the speaker volume in alsamixer has no effect on the speaker itself, which only outputs sound as long as the headphone volume is raised and the loopback box is checked. This also means that the speakers cannot be muted while using headphones.
    I installed pavucontrol to see if I could gain any insight, but trying to select "Speakers" as output port seems only to have an effect the volume sliders in alsamixer. So no settings in PulseAudio UI could solve my issue.
    I have googled wide and far, but haven't found anything helpful. I tried reoading kernel modules snd-hda-intel, snd-hda-codec-idt, snd-hda-codec-generic, but nothing changed.

    I do have all those packages installed. The volume controls were working perfectly for about 3 week, but now suddenly they are not behaving as expected. I don't know of any changes I made to my system that could have caused this. I suspected it might be a problem with the drivers, so I tried to find the appropriate driver at https://www.kernel.org/doc/Documentatio … Models.txt
