Icons acting up

Whenever I restart my computer the icons appear in a different position and then i will move them back to the configuration i want and sometimes some of them will not silect it is like they bcame part of the desktop picture. what is wrong and how do i fix this? thanks
Austin

You may want to try trashing your com.apple.finder.plist file. You can find it the Library folder in your User directory. That will correct many Finder issues. If you find that it doesn't solve the problem, you can move it back out of the trash.

  • Flash Drive Icon acting funny

    Hello,
    I use a flash drive San Disk mini Cruzer 512, and it always showed as a removeable media. Today it came up on the finder as a folder icon with no ejection symbol, clicking on it gave me a "could not be found" error. Yet my backup utility would read the contents fine when the finder would not display them. When I pulled it of the port, I got a device removal error. I trashed the plist Finder file and did a relaunch, now the drive comes up as a hard drive! I would think this a problem. Any one out there know. A second flash drive I have works normally. Do these things wear out?
    iBook G4 1.25   Mac OS X (10.4.9)

    I can't reproduce that behavior, so I have no idea if this will help, but you could try going to your home/Library/Caches/com.apple.finder folder, and delete the file there, and then logout or restart.

  • Printer icon acts as hyperlink to preceding page

    Hi there,
    I have a website running asp .net 2.0, Crystal Reports .NET and a report pages that uses a CrystalReportViewer.  One of the reports won't print.  When I click the print button the application doesn't print and jumps to a previous web page.
    Any ideas why the print button acts as a hyperlink?
    Thanks.
    Paul O

    Hi, Paul;
    You say that this affects one report. Are other reports hosted on different aspx pages, or this same page? There should not be any reason for the print button to behave in this manner. If you create a new ASPX page, add our viewer to it, and view a report through it, does it work fine? If so, compare the code behind on this page to the problem page.

    Jonathan

  • I would like create a folder on my desktop who's icons acts like the trashes.

    Apple script and or automator help.
    I have a folder on my desktop that has a trash icon. I want the icon to automatically change depending on if there is something in the folder or not.
    Is it a folder action with some scripting in it? How would I do that?

    This was a feature of OS 9 & earlier.
    There were many tools to emulate this behaviour, this old one claims to be… Updated For Mavericks!
    http://www.northernsoftworks.com/trashx.html
    Try that app if you really want this feature, frankly I think now may be time to consider moving away from this behaviour.
    Search for other apps if that one is bad, it has been done before.

  • Turning an icon into a button in a table

    Currently, I access a database in my program, and if I find an 'X' in a specific column, I place an icon in that field. What I would like to do is have that icon act as a button, that will pop up a screen with further information about the table line item. I am new at Java, and not sure what to do next.
    Here is the code for my table model:
    class sciTableModel extends javax.swing.table.DefaultTableModel
         public sciTableModel()
              super();
         public sciTableModel(java.util.Vector data, java.util.Vector columnNames)
              super(data, columnNames);
    and here is the code for my renderer
    class IconRenderer extends DefaultTableCellRenderer
         public Component getTableCellRendererComponent(JTable table,
         Object value, boolean isSelected, boolean hasFocus, int row, int column)
              ImageIcon iconl = new ImageIcon("info.gif");
              String headerText = (String)value;
              // System.out.println(headerText);
              JLabel headerComponent =
              ((JLabel)super.getTableCellRendererComponent(table, value, isSelected, hasFocus, row, column));
              headerComponent.setHorizontalAlignment(SwingConstants.CENTER);
              if (headerText != null)
                   headerComponent.setIcon(iconl);
                   headerComponent.setText("");
              else
                   headerComponent.setIcon(null);
                   headerComponent.setText(null);
              return headerComponent;
    In the public class I set the renderer, and in the actionevent that runs the database access I use the tablemodel.
    Any help on how I can turn this icon into a button would be appreciated.

    In A JTable, the render has the job of drawing one or more cells, but it's a rubber stamp -- it doesn't
    respond to events like a true component. What you describe isn't the job of an cell editor either,
    since, obviously, nothing is being edited. That leaves JTable itself: I suggest you write a mouse
    listener for your JTable and respond appropriately when the right cell is clicked:
    import java.awt.*;
    import java.awt.event.*;
    import javax.swing.*;
    public class Test {
        public static void main(String[] args) {
            JTable table = new JTable(20, 5);
            table.addMouseListener(new MouseAdapter(){
                public void mousePressed(MouseEvent evt) {
                    JTable t = (JTable) evt.getSource();
                    Point point = evt.getPoint();
                    int col = t.columnAtPoint(point);
                    int row = t.rowAtPoint(point);
                    if (col != -1 && row != -1) {
                        int modelCol = t.convertColumnIndexToModel(col);
                        System.out.println("clicked on model cell (" + row + "," + modelCol + ")");
            JFrame f = new JFrame("Test");
            f.setDefaultCloseOperation(JFrame.EXIT_ON_CLOSE);
            f.getContentPane().add(new JScrollPane(table));
            f.pack();
            f.setLocationRelativeTo(null);
            f.setVisible(true);
    }As the code demonstrates, don't forget to translate from view columns to model columns.
    By the way, why are you subclassing the default table model? You aren't changing any behavior...

  • How do I stop desktop icons from moving around - Windows 7 Professional 64 bit?

    This just started occuring 7/8/12.  Recently added UPromise turbo saver to my Internet Explorer.  Also did a Java update.  Can't really remember if they were done before or after problem began.  Now, all my desktop icons flip around and will not lock into where I place them.  How can I stop this.

    Hi there makeyesup!:Well you have 2 choices; go to Control Panel then look for System Recovery then follow what you see on your monitor if you see a calendar, that is System Restore select the latest date that you can remember your icons acting normally then restart anew & wait until the program straightens it out it should be as good as new
    2. right click your rodent & look for anything that says Arrainge icons... hit auto or whatever gets them normal
    3. restart PC then before the desktop shows up press the F8 key the look for & select "Last good configuration that worked" then restart
    good luck
    hope this helps

  • Ringer Volume icon

    When I attempt to change volume using the home page icon,the icon acts like it is locked and won't open to allow me to change volume.Help

    Hello kufan1,
    Welcome to the forums.
    We are not sure what icon you are referring to. The speaker icon on the main screen of your device is a profiles icon and it is not used to change the volume of your device but rather change the device profile. Are you referring to a 3rd party application you install to have the ability to change the device volume or are you in fact referring to the profile icon?

  • Mail Icons Bug

    I noticed that if I am in the middle of writing an email on my iPhone
    and I sleep the iPhone with the top power button, there is a problem
    when I turn it back on to finish writing the email. Instead of
    popping up my email with the usual ".?123" "space" and "return"
    buttons at the bottom of the screen (below the keyboard), it pops up
    the five icons that are usually at the bottom of the page when a
    regular email (NOT one I am writing, just one that I'm reading)
    appears: the icons for refresh, move to a new mailbox, trash, reply,
    and new message. When this is happening, the "refresh" icon acts as
    the ".?123", the "move to a new mailbox," "trash," and "reply" icons
    all act as the "space" bar, and the "new message" icon acts as the
    "return" button. The other problem is that the top of the screen,
    above the message, is blank -- the "cancel" and "send" buttons are not
    there. This bug is fixed by going back to the main menu, then
    re-opening the message. It would be great if this could be fixed!

    I just did the exact steps that you said and when my iPhone came out of sleep it went right back to the email as nothing was wrong. It sounds like you might need to do a restore in iTunes to correct the problem. A fresh install does wonders.

  • Show Custom Icon in a Dock Stack, Grid View?

    Hi, I have a folder with lots of pdfs placed in my dock as a stack. Is there any way to tell the Dock to show my custom icons, when present, or the default preview snapshot as it does now?
    When I click on my folder in the dock, I have it set to show as a grid. When the contents are shown, the finder generated document preview icons are shown. For some documents, I have created custom icons for quick visual identification. When I view the document in a finder folder window, the custom icon shows, as expected, but not when I view the folder contents in a dock stack.
    Thanks

    I have placed a network drive in the dock to act as a stack so that I quick click of that icon will mount the drive, and then the icon acts as a stack. This network drive has a custom icon. When I have the stack set to "display as stack", I get the stack icon in the dock. When I then change to "Display as folder", the custom icon appears in the dock in place of the stack icon UNTIL I click on the icon to display its contents. When I click again, the icon reverts to the generic network drive icon. I'd like the custom icon to remain in the dock. Any thoughts?

  • Pages won't open in Lion

    I saw someone else posted about Numbers not working back in June, but no one had an answer for them, so I'm hoping someone sees this.
    I downloaded Lion a few months ago, but haven't used Pages with it until now.
    I tried opening a couple of files in it (.docx and .pages), but the dock icon acts like it's booting up (bounces around) and then quits.
    Any ideas?

    May you open your eyes before posting.
    I'm not asking here, I'm trying to help !
    More,
    (a) upgrading to Lion doesn't remove Pages. So normally there is no need to re-install Pages
    (b) as the OP prove to be unable to say exactly what he installed it's difficult to help him.
    I listed the Pages '09 versions numbers but knowing if he use Pages as a component of the iWork package or Pages as a single application bought to the MAS would be useful too.
    If reinstalling Pages (or iWork) is required, before doing that, the first thing to do would be to uninstall completely the existing copy.

  • Can I access a label inside of an MC and then go back to the main time line

    Here is my current set up.
    I have a labeled section on main time line which has icons of 12 different videos. Each icon acts as a button and brings a user to a labeled section with a FLV Video Playback component impemented to play the corresponding video. These labeled sections are located on the main time.
    This methog makes my main time line very long. Is there a way to make an additional MC which will hold all the video buttons and then have this MC separated into labeled sections.
    In other words can I access a label inside of an MC and then go back to the main time line?
    My present code for accessing the label located on the main timeline is:
    HowTo_maininfo_mc.theArrangement_btn.addEventListener(MouseEvent.CLICK, theArrangement_btn_amimated_btnDown);
    function theArrangement_btn_amimated_btnDown(event:MouseEvent):void {
    gotoAndPlay("theArrangement");
    How would it look if my label "theArrangement" would be located inside of an MC?
    Is there any specific code if I want to have a close button located on the label inside of an MC and it needs to fire out to a label located on the main timeline?

    Oh, WOW! It is working perfectly now.
    My mistake was that I was specifiying the var sourceVar:String;
    for every single button. It was not clear to me from the first example that it has to be specified only once.
    I made a small test Flash file and everything works now. It still doesn't work on my big flash file, I guess some other code messes it up and I can' not figure what it is exactly.
    I would like to include the OUTPUT error message in hopes that you can spot right away what a mistake could be:
    VideoError: 1000: Unable to make connection to server or to find FLV on server
              at fl.video::VideoPlayer/stop()
              at fl.video::FLVPlayback/stop()
              at acolyteVideos_fla::mainsite_mc_2/stopF2()[acolyteVideos_fla.mainsite_mc_2::frame484:21]
              at flash.display::MovieClip/gotoAndPlay()
              at acolyteVideos_fla::mainsite_mc_2/onClick_GoBackToHowTo2()[acolyteVideos_fla.mainsite_mc_2 ::frame484:13]
    If there is no immediate cure for it, I will go through code line by line. Since it is working on the test it must be something wrong with my main file.
    Additiona question (please let me know if I should paste it as a new thread)
    I have similar set up with UILoader. Where different buttons set up to bring a user to individual labeled sections with individual UILoader. Should it be arranged in the same way that it is only one loader and "var sourceVar:String;" code is the one which brings up different content for each button?

  • How can I "hide" borders for buttons ?

    Hello!
    I have a toolbar with several buttons on it. If I run my application, these buttons appears initially with a border around.
    I made a custom button, class which implements MouseListener (extends JButton of course) and for each event like mousePressed(...), mouseEntered(...) I set a specific border for my button.
    If I move the mouse cursor over the button the border will not be visible because I use (setBorder(...) in my class) an EmptyBorder(...). I want to happen this when my application starts.
    With respect,
    Cristian

    I changed a little your code to figure what's wrong; here it is modified code:
    import java.awt.*;
    import java.awt.event.*;
    import javax.swing.*;
    import javax.swing.border.*;
    public class Test extends JFrame {
         public Test () {
              getContentPane ().setLayout (new FlowLayout ());
              ImageIcon icon = new ImageIcon("images/"+"save.gif");
              Action actionNew = new AbstractAction("save", icon) {
                   public void actionPerformed(ActionEvent e) {
              JToolBar toolBar = new JToolBar();
              CustomButton save = new CustomButton(actionNew, "save");
              toolBar.add(save);
              getContentPane ().add (toolBar);
              setDefaultCloseOperation (EXIT_ON_CLOSE);
              setTitle ("Button without border");
              pack ();
              setLocationRelativeTo (null);
              show ();
         public class CustomButton extends JButton {
              private Border emptyBorder;
              private Border lineBorder;
              public CustomButton (Action act,String text) {
                   super((Icon)act.getValue(Action.SMALL_ICON));
                   //super (text);
                   setFocusPainted (false);
                   emptyBorder = BorderFactory.createEmptyBorder (1, 1, 1, 1);
                   lineBorder = BorderFactory.createLineBorder (Color.BLACK);
                   setBorder (emptyBorder);
                   setToolTipText(text);
                   addMouseListener (new MouseAdapter () {
                        public void mouseEntered (MouseEvent event) {
                             setBorder (lineBorder);
                        public void mouseExited (MouseEvent event) {
                             setBorder (emptyBorder);
              public static void main (String[] parameters) {
                   new Test ();
         }And I realized that if I put my buttons on a toolbar they will be bordered and I don't now if I need to customize the toollbar too in order not show borders arround.
    To run this code you should have an image called save.gif placed in images directory.
    Thanks Levi, I will search further !
    Kind regards,
    Cristian

  • Taskbar Hover Glow Doesn't Go Away

    Sometimes my taskbar lookes the ability to know when my cursor leaves the taskbar.  For example, I point at a running app, and I see the color light up and the preview appear.  Then I move my mouse away and the color effect stays and the preview
    won't go away.  I click on something on my desktop and the preview disappears, but the color effect is still on the icon acting like I'm pointing at it.
    And no, I'm not gonna kill the .explorer.exe process, and I don't want to restart my computer every 5 minutes for it to away, because it comes back again, every time and it is random. I don't have installed any themes or tweak programs, the Windows is completely
    vanilla. It doesn't matter what programs I install or have installed, I already formatted, then installed only the basics (Internet driver, browser, audio,etc) and it still happened, and again, it's NOT a graphics driver issue, I tested it.
    This is not a driver related problem, this is a Windows Seven bug. Is there any way at all to fix this? Or remove that yellow glow completely? This is really annoying!
    Here is a picture of it, in case you don't know exactly what I'm referring to:
    Notice that even though the folder is selected, the glow freezes on any program/folder on the taskbar you hover your mouse. The windows thinks that the mouse cursor is still there, so it never goes away.

    It's stunning how people answer to questions not reading the entire question first.
    I said clearly that it WASN'T, I'm going to repeat it ok? Just read it: It ISN'T a graphics driver issue. It happened on my brother's computer as well, on a generic graphics card, plus I installed an old version of the graphics driver before posting this,
    and it still didn't work (I had the latest graphics driver, then I tried and older version, both of them didn't solve the matter).
    Like I said, this is a WINDOWS bug, not a driver or aero problem. Windows just stops registering wether or not the mouse pointer is hovering the taskbar, so it glitches (basically he thinks the mouse pointer never left the taskbar, so of course, the glow
    glitches. Pointless effect is pointless).
    If anyone gonna answer this question, please don't say basic things that anyone with a brain would have already tried.
    Again, just so you don't forget: It's NOT a driver problem of ANY kind, nor is it Aero themes or any other third-party themes. Read the entire OP before posting.
    Thanks.

  • ICS update woes

    Received the ICs/4.0.4 update yesterday afternoon.  My Samsumg keyboard no longer works after the update.  Also, the wirless icons seem squirrely and I keep getting a message saying it is connected to my wireless access point every few minutes.  It keeps scanning for wireless access points and connecting to the weakest one, ignoring the strongest one.  The 4G icon is active with no bars at the same time while I am supposedly connected to Wifi,
         Basically, ICS has almost bricked my tablet.

    Got the keyboard working.  Thanks Verizon, do an update that changes settings and don't tell anyone about it.  That is how you get bad reviews.  Had to uncheck installed virtual keyboard to make the external keyboard work.
    Still having issues with wireless icons, acting very strange.  Wifi Icon in tray shows little signal, but when I go to setup wireless it shows full scale signal.  The other icon which normally shows 4G, shows full scale, but no 4g or other icon.
