Icons Change in Dock

I have a document that I open frequently.  I changed the icon of the file by using Get Info, clicking the original icon, and pasting the new icon.  I then drag this file to the right side of the Dock.  After a few openings and closings, the new icon disappears and the original one replaces it.  Any ideas about how to prevent this?

+I don't have the display as setting. When i right click on the folder shortcut in the dock, I have Sort By View As Remove from dock Show in finder and Open "folder"+
I didn't say right-click on the Applications folder in the dock, I said click and hold, then you will get the menu as shown below. As you can see the Applications folder with the 'glass' icon shows fine once set to 'Display as Folder'

  • Change icon size in dock

I upgraded to OS X 10.9 from Mountain Lion. The icons on my dock (which I have on the right hand side of my screen) all became smaller with the upgrade. When I move the slider bar in dock settings (in system preferences) from small to large the icons do not change size as they did in Mountain Lion. Is this a bug in Mavericks or do I need to do something besides moving the slider bar from small to large? Thanks.

You should consider downloading the 10.6.8 combo updater and applying it again.

  • HOW DO YOU CHANGE THE ICONS IN YOUR DOCK

I have went onto the apple site and downloaded fun icons to spice up my desktop and folders and I have been successfull in changing the folder icons but do not know how to change the icons in the dock.....can someone please help me out.....thanks in advance

here's how i do it... it may not be the most elegent way but it works.
    1) download the icons you want to your desktop
    2) right click on the one you want to use and select "copy"
    3) go to the application (in your application folder, NOT the dock) and right click on the application, and select "get info"
    4) a pop up window will open with all this stuff in it. left click on the top icon in the info pop-up window
    5) go to the finder bar (the bar on the top of the desktop) and pull down Edit, then select Paste.
    6) drag the old icon off the dock into the trashcan
    7) drag the new icon from the application folder to the dock

  • Changing icons on the dock back to the originals

I changed most of the icons on my dock to the ones that resemble a periodic table. I did this by clicking "get info" on the application and copying and pasting the new icon into the icon slot. I was wondering how I could go back to the old original icons for the apps. Thanks in advance.

If you open the Get Info window, you can select the icon in the upper left corner the same way you originally put the icon there. But instead of pasting, either cut (+X) or press the delete key. Should be back to normal.

  • Changing icons on the dock

    Hi,
i just get some new funny icons i'd install on my dock instead of the defaults one.
Anybody knows how i get to it?

First, you need to change the application's icon in the Finder window. Some utilities exist to do this for you. And an application called ShapeShifter will apply sets of icons to your whole entire computer.
They can be added indiviudally if you only want to change a select few icons.
    -First, open a Finder window
-Find your application, Right/Control-click on the app, and choose "Get Info..."
-You will see a tiny version of the icon at the top left corner. Click on it, and you will see a blue area around it, indicating that you've selected it.
-Now find your icon, and Get Info on this file. Select it in the left corner and then choose "EDIT > COPY"
-Then select the app's Get Info window, select the icon, and paste it.
-You may need to take the icon off the dock and then put the new icon into the dock to update the icon.
Version Tracker You cam find all different sorts of apps here to change your icons, as well as the app ShapeShifter.
Remember to mark as helpful or solved.

  • I can't change the Icons in my dock

    Hello,
I bought the update version of SL and love it and no real complaints. I just have a issue with one aspect, the dock icons. Before i upgraded to SL, I used to have different icon pictures for different programs. So when I upgraded to SL it changed the icons to the standard/original icon pictures for the programs. Now i go into INFO in applications when i click on iTunes, and try to copy and paste a picture icon again to change the dock icon picture. But no such luck.
    Any Ideas?

one option is to use a 3rd party app like Candybar which will let you change those icons.
for another option see this post

  • After You Drag an Icon Into the Dock, Can You Change the Way it Looks?

I work with files that are on a few Windows servers, so I can't change the icons of any files or folders that are on those servers. I've dragged each of the servers' icons into my dock so I can access them quickly, but all the icons in the dock look the same. Is there a way I can change the icons in the dock that represent those servers? There's no "Get Info" for them so you can't copy and paste the same way you can with folder/file icons that reside on your hard drive.
I created an alias (shortcut), copied it onto my desktop, changed that icon, then dragged that into my dock, and then deleted all the original aliases, but it doesn't hold the link, so I want to be able to drag the server icon into the dock and then access that icon and change it.
    Any suggestions?
    Thanks,
    Lloyd

Anything on this yet? The whole "alias/shortcut" thing didn't work. I actually got it to work but after restarting the computer the icons in the dock show as question marks.
Isn't there a resource file or something I can dig into to change those icons in the dock?
    Thanks...

  • Dock Stack Icons Change = Annoying - Fix?

We do a lot of peer-to-peer networking in the office and I have other people's icons in my dock for quick access. I've assigned everyone a descriptive icon:
But (now in Leopard) when I actually connect to these people the icons change:
Not only is this ugly and messy but it makes finding a particular person harder. I'd really like them to retain the original icon. Is there a way I can make that happen? Thanks!

The 'top' icon of a stack varies but you know that it is always the top icon in the window when you look at it in list view. Knowing this, like many people, I've created a folder, named it with several leading spaces, and sorted the window alphabetically. The stack is now always represented by that empty folder.

    - Apps are locked to the account that purchased them. Thus it appears that yor sone purchased the app.
    - To update apps you have to sign into the account that purchased the apps. If you have apps that need updating purchased from more than one account you have to update them one at a time until the remaining apps were purchased from one account.

  • Icon change in the dock

A usual news for all of you that I just turned Mac after using Windows for more than 15 years! Never saw Mac desktop before and know nothing about it either (just reminds me the first time I bought my own PC).
Anyways, I wanted to have a folder on the dock which should contain all the applications. I just dragged the application folder and placed it on the dock. The stupid icon of this folder changed, now showing "Address Book"-icon on top of the folder. I want to change the icon on the dock ONLY! How can I do that?

It was right there under my nose... Got it confused with the "View Content as"... Anyways, thanks for the quick reply.

  • I was changing the appearance of the icons in the dock....

I was changing the appearance of the icons in the dock.  And I decided to try doing the same thing to the icon in the sidebar in Finder.  I ended up making one icon into a grey square.  How do I restore the original sidebar icon?

I found an easy solution (it doesn't require the operating system to be reinstalled). And here's what my finder sidebar looks like now:
Just follow the simple instructions here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bjiVTcCvMTI&feature=youtu.be

  • Seeing multiple iPhoto libraries when I click on the iPhoto icon in the dock?

I can't figure out why I am seeing multiple iPhoto libraries when I click on the iPhoto icon in my dock.  I am running Lion on an early 2008 MacBook Pro (4 GB RAM), and when I click and hold on the iPhoto icon in the dock, it brings up a dialog box.  From top to bottom, this is what I see:
    iPhoto Library
    iPhoto LIbrary
    iPhoto Library
    Options
    Show Recents
    Open
I can't figure out why it shows three iPhoto libraries when I only have one on my computer.  I've tried deleting the icon from the dock and then putting it back in the dock, but it still shows three libraries for some reason.  If I search for iPhoto in spotlight search or in finder, it only shows one iPhoto (in the applications folder).  Any help on how to resolve this weird issue would be much appreciated!

I have the same issue.  I see four iPhoto libraries when I right click on the iPhoto icon in the dock, but I only actually have two libraries.  The other two simply do not exist on my computer.  And when I click on the libraries that do not exist, obviously nothing happens.  In the image, only the bottom two libraries are actual photo libraries.  The top two do not exist.
I have relaunched Finder, restarted the computer, and even restored the entire computer from my Time Machine backup.  Nothing changes.  No matter what I try, the non existent iPhoto libraries continue to be present when I right click the iPhoto icon in the dock.  BTW, there are only two iPhoto libraries in the pictures folder.
This is very frustrating and annoying.
