Icons instead of thumbnails showing in Bridge

Hi,
Why is it that in some of my directories icons for InDesign files show instead of the thumbnails of the job itself? If I open the files in InDesign and then re-save them, the thumbnails show up. And, in one directory in particular, I've got a lot of IDML files, because, I had to save ID files as that for a colleague who's got an earlier version of ID. Most all of them show up as icons, not thumbnails.
Thanks,
Peter

In FileType Associations in Preferences, it lists InDesign with a series of extensions, followed by an ellipsis to indicate some others. But, I don't see IDML in there. You can't seem to be able to add to it. And, this problems shows up with some InDesign files as well, not just IDML files.
Thanks,
Peter

  • Do thumbnails show in Bridge CS5 if connected directly from a DSLR (via USB cable)?

I have a D90 and none of my thumbnails for my files show in Bridge CS5 when connected directly from the camera. This includes ALL types of files (JPEG, NEF, etc). It shows the thumbnails when I use a card reader though. Is this common with DSLRs?

If you have—misguidedly and unfortunately—done that already, first back up the image files on your computer, then immediately format the card in the camera, which will erase everything in the card and format it to a fresh, pristine state.
What ever possessed you to do a thing like that?
Had you done that to the card containing the raw files you can't open?
Do not be fooled by what the camera shows you anyway. The preview you see in the back of the camera when chimping* is not a preview of your raw file at all, but of the embedded JPEG that the camera creates right after you shoot and records inside your raw file.  The histogram it shows you in the camera is not based on the raw data at all either, but on said embedded JPEG.
The same is true when you review or playback the images later on the LCD display in the back of the camera.
*Chimping is a colloquial term used in digital photography to describe the habit of checking every photo on the camera display (LCD) immediately after capture.
The phrase is most likely derived from comparison between the sounds and actions some make while reviewing images and those of an excited primate (Oooh! Oooh! Aaah!), or when a photographer is completely absorbed in the act of analyzing, admiring or proudly displaying a shot to others.

  • Icons instead of thumbnails, but only on specific file type

I have windows 7 and am using MS 2007.
Thumbnails work for some of my files: images and powerpoint, but not on files for pdfs, excel and word. Except if someone was using Word for Mac and sends me the file.

    Hello KylieJ,
Try one of the below method and let us know the result.
    1. On the picture folder, Click on
Organize, then Folder and Search Options.  Click the
View tab.  Make sure that "Always show icons, never thumbnails"
does not have a check mark next to it.
    2.    In control Panel, Click on the System icon. Click on the advanced system settings link. Under Performance, click on the Settings button. In the Visual Effects tab, Check "Show thumbnails instead
    of icons.”
    3. Run disk cleanup and place a check in front of "Thumbnails."
Hope this will solve your problem!

  • Generic InDesign icon instead of thumbnail

Just upgraded from Panther to Tiger and all went well. But back in Panther, in column view, if I selected a saved InDesign document, a thumbnail of the document would appear in the next column. Since the upgrade, however, all I get is the generic InDesign icon. This happens with documents created before AND after the upgrade.
When I select a .pdf, .tif, .ai or .mpg in Tiger, I get a thumbnail, so it's just the InDesign documents that won't show. InDesign documents are set to "Save Document Preview Image."
I have repaired permissions, run Onyx and MacJanitor, etc. Is there a preference I should delete or something else? Thanks. These forums are invaluable, by the way.
    PowerMac G4 Quicksilver   Mac OS X (10.4.5)   2MB L3 cache 1GB SDRAM

I seriously doubt that will do a thing about this problem, and I wouldn't try it. As an experiment I tried copying an InDesign document and a couple of the other files that aren't showing thumbs from my tower, with Tiger, to my iBook with Panther. The iBook's only Adobe app is PS Elements. Nonetheless in column view it displays the thumb for the InDesign file and for a couple of ai files, none of which show a thumb in Tiger. I believe the problem is Tiger's, not ours.

  • I have just downloaded camera Raw 8.8 to my computer that runs Photoshop CS6 for my Canon 7D Mark II.  CR2 files appear as Icons instead of thumbnails.  Does anyone know a fix

Is there a way for CR2 files that are downloaded to Bridge running CS6 to appear as thumbnails rather than Icons in Bridge

You don't download anything "into Bridge".  Bridge is a just a File Browser, you put your image files wherever you want and you point Bridge to whatever folder you put your raw CR2s in.

  • Tiff's suddenly showing generic icon instead of image preview

All of a sudden I have begun having an intermittent problem with Bridge (CS3) not displaying a preview thumbnail for a very few number (not all) TIFF files- instead I just get a thumbnail showing a TIFF logo rather than the picture itself. I would normally think it was just something about those particular files but it's happened with some files from two other sources all within a few days of one another- on several occasions it has happened to a TIFF that previously had a preview and then once I did additional work and had to save over it, it lost the preview and had the generic icon.
Is anyone familiar with this issue and how to fix it? I already tried purging the cache for the folder, then I tried restarting Bridge while holding down the option key and reset the Cache database. I did not reset the Preferences yet, I have a lot of things set up just so and would like to avoid it if it isn't necessary. The only change I have made is I installed the newest version of Camera Raw, though I am not implying it had anything to do with this.

Purge the cache for the offending folder(s) through the Tools menu in Bridge, NOT through the broken global command in Bridge prefs.

  • What version of itunes would show a ipod icon instead of a music icon on my ipad

I sold this ipad to a friend and now it shows she only has IOS 4.2 and therefore can not load apps.  It also shows an ipod icon instead of a music icon.   It the reason she is having problems the version of itunes downloaded.  And is it possible her old dell computer can't load a newer version of iTunes?

The Version of Itunes is not the problem. Its the version of IOS.  4.2 is quite old.
She'll need to connect the iPad to her PC running the iTunes desktop Application. doesn't matter if its slightly older, to update to a newer version of IOS on the iPad.
Also assuming her Dell isn't really really old.. I'm sure she can run the newest version if the iTunes Desktop Application just fine.  As the Requirements aren't really all that high.

  • Quicktime files only show up as icons, not as thumbnails in my files

None of my quicktime files appear as thumbnails (in their folder), even though I have selected 'show icon preview' in the view options menu. I would love to see the first frame of the video clip to help sort my clips.
I've tried posting this question in the quicktime formum with no response. I'm hoping someone can assist me with this. I would also be amenable to posting it in a more appropriate forum, if someone has such a suggestion. Please advise. Thank you in advance.

Mine are mixed - some QT files show as icons, some as thumbnails. The same is true of .wmv files and other formats - some do, some don't.
I have a feeling this may be related to a long-standing problem with the way OSX generates/displays file icons. I'm no expert at all, but I think that it has to do with the data contained in the resource forks. However, I am fully open to correction on this.
Advice elsewhere in these Discussions suggests trashing the Launch Services plist and restarting or logging out/in: see below for a suggestion I found in another topic.
delete the file: homedirectory/library/preferences/com.apple.LaunchServices.plist and log out/in
I've just tried this myself, and it did not appear to work for me - it apparently fixed just one file and not the rest. However, when I did "get info" on the unchanged files and used edit/cut on the file icon, it then changed the QT icon into a thumbnail.
This may have nothing to do with trashing the LaunchServices plist, but I suspect it might as this didn't happen when I tried cutting the icons earlier. However, it doesn't seem to help with other applications (eg vlc).

  • Saved PSD files show up as small thumbnails oinly in Bridge

Ive been working on some photos in ACR/CS2 and a strange thing happened. After working on raw files I save them in a separate working folder as psd files. Suddenly, for no apparent reason, my PSD files are showing up in Bridge as tiny thumbnails. This just started happening in the middle of working on a folder of raw files. The first few were fine and then the saved files began showing up as thumbnails.
Moving the slider to make them bigger doesnt do anything. I can make all the files smaller by moving the slider to the left, but moving to the right only makes the files thumbnail size. Very weird. This problem seems limited to Bridge. In PS they look fine. Ive even checked their file size and that looks fine. Ive closed and reopened Bridge, but that had no affect.
I cleared ACR preferences and purged the folder; that brought back some files but then others became small. Also when working on new files, the first few were again OK and then again files became thumbnail size in Bridge. I can open the files, save them to another folder and then copy them to the original folder, over writing the old, thumbnail size folder. I suspect all this has to do with cache and some setting, but I can't figure out the random nature of all this.

Actually I found the problem... under Bridge preferences, check to see if the "do not process files larger than ____MB" is less than the PSD file size.... i.e. my psd file was 229.24mb and my limit was set at 200mb... then once you change this go to cache settings and purge, it will reset the thumbnails and clear the small view issue.

  • Best practice to show ICON instead Label for ADF Component

    Hi,
    I am using JDeveloper 11.1.1.6.
My requirement is to use Icons instead Label text for my ADF components. Those are in one Form layout wich means that if I just used a panelgroup horizontal and put then the image and then the input component, the panelForm Layout wont automatically align my components. So I was trying to fallow this link
    http://adfpractice-fedor.blogspot.co.uk/2011/08/panel-form-layout-and-labels-with-icons.html with no success.
Anyone else could orientate me on the right path?
    Thank you

You can try to use af:panelFormLayout and set "rows" property.
Then set simple="true" on your input components.
    For example:
    <af:panelFormLayout id="pfl1" rows="2">
          <af:image source="image1.png" id="i1"/>
          <af:image source="image2.png" id="i2"/>
          <af:inputText label="Label 1" id="it1" simple="true"/>
          <af:inputText label="Label 2" id="it2" simple="true"/>
    </af:panelFormLayout>Dario

  • Raw and TIFF Thumbnails Not Showing in Bridge CS4

    Hi,
I just bought Photoshop CS4 and installed.  I got an installation error and had to remove and reinstall CS4 (and ran the Mac Cleanup Utility in between).  Then, CS4 installed successfully.
Now, when I fire up Bridge CS4, I can preview JPG files, but not TIFF or RAW (*.NEF format from my D200) files.
Has this happened to anyone else and is there a fix I can apply?  I have installed known updates for CS4 and have purged the cache.
I have tried searching adobe and the online communities for this issue, but haven't been able to locate it.  The problem also applies to *.PSD documents.  I have also tried Tools>Cache>Purge Cach for Folder xxx and this doesn't fix things.
Thanks in advance for your advice!!!

    OK, I'm back already.
The bug was easily and instantly reproduced just as I wrote earlier:
With one of the lines under the thumbnails (thumbnail view in
Bridge) set to date created, and the other three to Date Modified,
Pixel Dimensions and Color Profile, respectively. I then invoked the
Global Purge cache command in Bridge CS4. Poof! The date created line
under each and every thumbnail is now blank. The space for the line is there, but it's totally empty,
    blank. >:(
    Invoking
Tools > Cache > Build and Export Cache > for all folders and subfolders restores the data in the blanked lines wiped out by the global Purge Cache command in Bridge preferences.
Thank goodness I had disconnected the FW drives.
I then went again and repeated the procedure one more time. The
Date Created line was again immediately left blank under all
    thumbnails.
    As far as I'm concerned,
the Global Purge cache command in Bridge Preferences in CS4 is broken
, just as it was in CS3 at least until someone tells me how to stop this from happening, reliably and consistently.
