Icons NOT on desktop.........

Since Installing Leopard, my external hard drive, digital camera, flash drive, etc.,. does/do not appear on my desktop. I can find them by using "APPLE-F" and drag them into the trash when I'm through using them, but I cannot figure out why they don't/won't appear on my desktop (like they used to before installation of Leopard).
Any ideas?

Ini the Finder Menu, and Preferences, then Sidebar tab. Check the appropriate boxes. Also, if this is a Monitor issue, where it shows in the Desktop (from the Sidebar), then try resetting your monitor resolution to less resolution, back to the current resolution.

• Why is Fusion drive icon not on desktop?

I have been using my new imac with a Fusion 3T drive for well over a month and there has never been a HD icon for it on my desktop until today. ( I thought maybe they had done away with it) But it showed up for a few hours today before disappearing again. The computer seems to work fine. I am just confused - what's with the HD icon disappearing act?

Have you ever configured the Finder and Desktop? Click on the Finder window to activate it, then select Preferences from the Finder menu in the menubar. Click on the General icon and check the desired boxes:
Next click on the Sidebar icon and configure it as well:

• When I click to open Mozilla icon on my desktop, the page does not open & I cannot access it unless I type it in an Internet Explorer page?

When I click to open Mozilla icon on my desktop, the page does not open & I cannot access it unless I type it in an Internet Explorer page? When clicking on the Icon sometimes it will flash to the right of my desktop screen but does not open for access.

Hi Dave, thanks for your answer.
I have tried a several times to repairing permissions, restarting the mac, relaunched Finder, but no difference.
I copied the download folder to the dock...there I can open the files, but not deleting them or copying them.
When I open finder, then I click on the folder Download, after a while of thinking, it throws me out and back to the desktop.
already tried to sign in with the guest user account, then I am able to open the download folder.(but not seeing my files)
When I am trying to change the download folder in Safari, it also throws me out and gives me a error report ,for sending to Apple.
I think it's a settings fault or i think my download folder is locked. Almost desperat, already called support center,
They couldn't help, for free, due the 90 days free online help i have reached. If I want to solve this problem, they could try it , but it cost me almost 50 euros.
hope there is someone, who's knowing this problem.
By the way, I think it also could be that I dragged some downloaded music to the desktop, and dragged some folder that has the settings. Now its changed???
Or I was downloading something, and deleted the files in the download folder while it was unpacking and reparing the files.
It's not easy for a beginner Mac user (3 months) to already solve this problems.
Can you follow me? And seems this problem familiar to you?
Thanks in advance

• Hard Drive Icon Not Showing Up on Desktop

Hey folks, this might be a very very noobish question, but I guess I'm fairly new to OSX...
My Hard Disk Drive icon is not showing up on my desktop for some reason...if I open a New Finder Window, I can't see it on the upper left hand quadrant in columnar view, but I can get to all the shortcut folders in the lower left hand quadrant (Applications, Documents, Movies, etc.), but can't navigate to the root directory unless I use Terminal (yup, I'm root user).
When I go into Disk Utility (/Applications/Utilities/Disk Utility.app) then I can see the drive itself as well as the Windows partition I created for Bootcamp purposes. I tried Verify Drive and Verify Permissions to see if there were some weird problems with the drive itself but both came back perfect, and still no HDD icon on the desktop.
I have a feeling it's just some weird setting I may have inadvertently tweaked, so any feedback, advice, or information on how to get it back would be very welcome and appreciated. In case it's any help, here is the HDD Information from Get Info:
Name : HDD_loc

Additionally, I'm not doing any kind of Full Disk Encryption whether using Apple's built-in encryption or some third-party such as PGP.
Thanks in advance!

Thanks ElBiggus, I neglected to add that I had already done this. "Hard disks" is checked, as is "CDs, DVDs, and iPods", as well as "Connected Servers".
If I drop down the "New Finder windows open:" menu, I see "Home", "Documents", "Computer", "iDisk" (greyed out), and "Untitled", which is my Windows partition.
This is a very strange one...can't seem to figure it out

• When I click on an Icon on my desktop to take me to a site (such as google) I get a message that it could not find the loaction. Then it goes ahead and opens a Firefox window with the site anyway as if the message never happened.

When I click on an Icon on my desktop to take me to a site (such as Google) I get a message that it could not find the location. Then it goes ahead and opens a Firefox window with the site anyway as if the message never happened. Then when I close the window I see that the message is still there. I have to close it separately. Any suggestions? Oh, and this only happens if Firefox is NOT already active. If I have another Firefox window open when I click on the Icon, it just opens as expected. This message appears no matter which site Icon I select. It did not happen before I upgraded to ver 9.0.

Hello BassoonPlayer,
Since you are using one of the the school's Macbooks, it is quite possible that the time and date are not properly set on the computer that you are using. FaceTime will not work if you do not have the proper time zone set up for the location that you are in. This past week, there were a two other Macbook users I've helped by simply telling them to set the Date/Time properly. By the way, you described your problem very well, which makes it easier for us to help you. Hope this solves your problem -- if not, post back and I can suggest other remedies.

• Why does the Firefox icon on my desktop read1788 and not Mozilla?

Recently the Mozilla icon on my desktop changed from reading Mozilla to 1788 (the writing right under blue the Mozilla Firefox symbol) . Is this something Mozilla has done or is there an issue I need to resolve and if so how to I resolve this issue?
Also are there any free virus protection, that work with Mozilla?
Thank you in advance for any help you can give me in this matter.

No, the desktop shortcut hasn't been renamed. First, make sure it's really pointing to Firefox and not something else:
1. Right-click the icon and choose Properties.
2. In the Properties window, click the Shortcut tab.
3. Make sure the Target field says
"C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox\firefox.exe"
4. If it does, then click the General tab.
5. In the text box at the top, enter the name you want for the shortcut.
6. Click the OK button when done.
I take it you're having problems with the avast! Online Security add-on, which is why you have it disabled? Any add-on that scans every link on every page is bound to add a delay to loading time. If you're having more severe issues, you can ask for help on the Avast forum:
* http://forum.avast.com/index.php?board=2.0
That add-on isn't required for virus and malware protection. Here are some alternatives to the features it provides:

* Site Correct (automatic correction of mistyped web URLs)

• Desktop Problems(Icons not showing up) Not Active?

I turned my computer on the other day, and none of the icons on my desktop showed up at all. And I can't even put anything on the actual desktop. All the destop items are still in my finder (still under the desktop tab) but they are still not on the actual desktop, I can't even put anything on them. I did use the trail of the program cocktail to change around expose a little bit so I didn't know if that was it, I tried to change it to default on cocktail with no luck, so I think it must be some other issue still. Any help would be great, thank you.

Hi deltagay!
Does the Hard Drive icon still appear on the Desktop?
If you have more than one user account on the MBP, make sure that you are logged in with your user account.
If you are logged in to the correct account, and the icons are still not apparent, did you by any chance change the Short Name, of your user account?
If so, the info, in one or more, of the articles linked to below, may be helpful.

While holding down the option key, select "Go>Library" from the Finder. Navigate to the Preferences folder and you'll find "com.apple.finder.plist". Delete that file and restart.
