Icons on top of home screen

Can anyone tell me where I can find the meaning of all the icons on top of my home screen? The newest one that showed up is a bright red square with a white asterisk inside it. Some of them worry me. Thanks

I have Accu-weather, and their severe weather symbol is a red triangle with a yellow ! in the center. I believe that Weather Bug also uses the same type of symbol. It just may be from a weather alert. If you live in Florida and along the east coast, you just had a tropical storm visit you.

What happens if you tap on open?
Remember, if you ever want to find an app quickly, you can slide all the way to the left (iOS 6 and lower) or pull down (iOS 7 and later) to get to an app.
If you know for certain that you have deleated the app, please try restarting your phone. There are many ways to do this, but the safest way would be to hold down the power button and then slide to power down.
Once powered down, restart and try to find the icon on your screen. If you still can't find it, go into the App Store and then find the app you were trying to access. It should have an iCloud download symbol since you've purchased it before, rather than saying "install."

How do I get the Photo icon back to my home screen? I don't know how I managed this - but my lovely 'happy' photo icon is gone from my home screen and I can only access it through the double click - I would like it back on the home screen...any ideas???

You looked on every page & in every folder(if you have folders)? Still don't see it? If so: Settings>General>Reset>Reset Home Screen Layout...see if you see it now.

Internet icon ? at top of home screen

For the past week, I have a "1" and "a globe icon" located at the top of my home screen, next to where I would get an email alert icon. what is this? it was never there before.

"lock" icon on top of view screen

i have a "lock" icon on top of my view screen; the "hold" button is not "on" but i'm not able to turn "on" my ipod; i noticed the "lock" icon when i plugged ipod into my computer; when not plugged into computer, ipod screen is blank and doing the "reset" process does not work;
I can't find any information in the support/training guide that refers to the "lock" icon; it shows other icons and what they mean, but nowhere do i find a pic of the "lock" icon and its definition.

The lock on an iPod screen is displayed when the hold switch is on, it sounds like yours is stuck in the on position. Try toggling it back and forward to see if that will release it. If the problem continues contact Apple or your retailer:

Find which screen, folder it was moved to, and hold down the icon until the icons start shaking. Then drag it to the left or right edge of the screen, and it will allow you to move it to which ever screen you want it. When you have it there, tap the Home button to stop the icons form shaking.

This makes no sense... if it's not on the phone, it's not on the phone. A search of the device would never find it.
Is the issue possible that the app is simply on another home screen or in a folder? Have you possibly filled the 11 page max of home screens?

Changing Mobile Website Icon When Added to Home Screen of a Mobile

Bookmark saved in phone homescreen would be favicon of your site , which you can change from Site properties.
Regarding adding site favicon in homescreen , you can add the browser bookmark in homescreen first and then from browser settings , add bookmark with site name in home screen.

What do the icons on top of the screen on my ipod touch mean

Next to the batter I hvae a padloc with a circle around it. Yesterday I had an arrow head point diagonal to the right. What do these mean?

The circled padlock means the screen rotation is lock in portrait mode
From page 27 od iOS 4.1 Touch Users Guide:
Lock the iPod touch screen in portrait orientation (iPod touch 3rd generation or
later): Double-click the Home button, flick the bottom of the screen from left-to-right,
then tap (icon black square round arrow)
The portrait orientation lock icon (circled padlock) appears in the status bar when the screen
orientation is locked.
I do not know what the other one means. Try looking at the users guide.

my airporst icon in the top right of the screen has disappeared. any suggestions on how to bring it back?

No icons on bottom of home screen just grey bar.

I just installed the latest software, backed up and totally restored my ipod touch and there is no icons on the very bottom of the homescreen. Where there used to be Music, Photos, Videos and Itunes it is just a grey bar. How can I rectify this?

Does that happen after you double click the Home button? After you double click it the bottom shows the last four opened app. Scrolling to the right shows more apps if opened and scrolling left shows the screen lock and music controls. If you click the Home one the screen returns to normal.

Tap and hold the icon until it starts to wiggle. Drag it to where you want it.
