  • CS3 windows icons, slow to open

    Hi
I have CS3.  In windows explorer, when I right click on a graphics file such as a .pdf, it now takes a long time to open.  Because Adobe prepares a snapshot of that image.  But all I really want to do is to rename the file, I don't need to see the image.  IS there a way to tell Adobe to stop this?
    Thanks
    Steve

That is not normal. A complete reinstall may be the best approach.  This is what should happen when right clicking in Explorer:

  • ITunes 9.0.1 slow to open!

Im just checking to see if anyone else has had problems with the latest version of iTunes 9.0.1 being slow to open. When I click on the iTunes icon, it opens quick but then the main window freezes, then I see the beach ball spinning for about 30 seconds or so then the rest of the screen "comes alive" and then I can access the entire application.
It was never this way prior to version 9. I DID download the update that was supposed to solve these issues but I have not seen any difference in performance.

You might want to check that your certificate that you made has been applied to iTunes.app
    try this code in Terminal"
    codesign -dvvvv /Application/iTunes.app
Does the name on the certificate match the one you created?

  • Since installing OS X 10.8.2 Safari is very slow to open sites

Since installing OS X 10.8.2 Safari is very slow to open sites

Do you get a notice that Safari has quit unexpectedly? If so, please do the following.
Launch the Console application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Console in the icon grid.
    Step 1
Make sure the title of the Console window is All Messages. If it isn't, select All Messages from the SYSTEM LOG QUERIES menu on the left. If you don't see that menu, select
    View ▹ Show Log List
    from the menu bar.
Enter the name of the crashed application or process in the Filter text field. Select the messages from the time of the last crash, if any. Copy them to the Clipboard (command-C). Paste into a reply to this message (command-V).
When posting a log extract, be selective. In most cases, a few dozen lines are more than enough.
Please do not indiscriminately dump thousands of lines from the log into this discussion.
Important: Some private information, such as your name, may appear in the log. Anonymize before posting.
    Step 2
Still in the Console window, look under User Diagnostic Reports for crash reports related to the process. The report name starts with the name of the crashed process, and ends with ".crash". Select the most recent report and post the entire contents — again, the text, not a screenshot. In the interest of privacy, I suggest that, before posting, you edit out the “Anonymous UUID,” a long string of letters, numbers, and dashes in the header of the report, if it’s present (it may not be.) Please don’t post shutdownStall, spin, or hang logs — they're very long and not helpful.

  • ITunes is suddenly slow to open

    Hello
My iTunes has suddenly become noticeably slower to open. This is when opening it for the first after starting the computer from cold. It used to really zip to open. Now, the icon animates, but the window is slow to appear. I haven't added any new music to it, so it's a bit odd.
Once open for the first time, with the ram loaded, Tunes can be closed and then when opened again, it zips open. Odd.
Wouldn't mind so much, but I've got the same thing already going on with my Word programme. My MacBook is only 2months old.
    Thanks!
    MacBook   Mac OS X (10.4.8)

Same thing here, I start iTunes and it takes forever
to start, no window no nothing, then a few minutes
later its up and running. Then when I quit the window
goes away but the dock icon still has its arrow and
it shows up in the "Force Quit Application" window as
"Not Responding" and no matter how many times I force
it to quit it is still there. No window just the dock
icon still has its arrow and it shows up in the
    "Force Quit Application" window.
I have to restart the Mac to get rid of iTunes. I
tried downloading iTunes 6.5 but it will not
    install.

    2.4 G5   Mac OS X (10.4.8)
This is exactly the same thing that is happening with my iTunes. And today, other applications are refusing to open. Could it be that latest security update? Think I'm just going to reinstall the system and start again. But if anyone has any ideas?

  • Satellite L955-S5370 Slow to Open Applications

Ever since it was first powered on, not quite 2 years ago, my Satellite L955-S5370 has been very slow to open applications. By this I mean: When I double click on the application shortcut for any program or any control panel, there is a pause of a few seconds, then the item's icon appears in the Windows taskbar for a few seconds, then finally the program or control panel itself opens.
I thought that with some careful maintenance, like reducing unnecessary background processes or regular defragmenting, that I could solve this problem. However, nothing I tried succeeded in reducing the time needed to open a program or control panel.
This laptop has been factory re-installed twice - but there was no improvement in the time needed to open programs and control panels.
I thought perhaps that laptops just aren't as responsive as desktops. However, I have tried laptops on display in stores and they operate quickly, even with less powerful hardware than my laptop.
Is this particular model - L955-S5370 - known to be slow? Is there anything I can try to make it respond more quickly?
Or did Toshiba simply make underperforming laptops in 2012?

    Hi Jerry:
Long time since we last corresponded.
Thanks for the link to a description of my laptop's specifications.
Thanks also for the link to updates for my computer. Remember this discussion from just about a year ago?
I upgraded to Windows 8.1 by following the directions in the article you posted.
Perhaps I should have mentioned that I already tried unchecking things from the System Configuration Utility. I actually used Autoruns, which is more comprehensive. No change.
For the record, I long ago got rid of virtually everything that Toshiba put into Windows startup. Now, only three items run at Windows startup:
    1. the Intel RST (Rapid Storage Technology) driver, without which my computer would run even slower;
    2. the Intel graphics driver; and
    3. the Realtek sound driver, without which I'm stuck with Windows' own driver.
All drivers are the most recent.
The low hanging fruit were picked long ago. Remember I said my laptop behaved this way out-of-the-box (it was actually slower then than it is now.) Whatever is causing this is part of Toshiba's build.

  • Yosemite slow to open App Store

Since upgrading to Yosemite, the App Store is very slow to open.
Also some web pages are also slow to open. Have removed web site data as mentioned in other posts but to no avail

Since you restored from a backup, check free drive space.
Right or control click the MacintoshHD icon. Click Get Info. In the Get Info window you will see Capacity and Available. Make sure you have a minimum of 15% free disk space.

Why have I been prompted to refresh when don't remember any problems except slow to open? Don't think I reported this, but need to. It is a huge problem, most times takes >3 min for browser to open! I click on task bar icon and wait. Then right click & choose Moz FF. Eventually 2 screens open. I hope I don't have to refresh to clear this up. TY, Gracie

When certain parameters are exceeded in Firefox operation, the internal Firefox Health Reporting feature make a "decision" inside your Firefox installation to raise that message recommending a "Refresh". It's your option to do the "Refresh" or not. I you don't "Refresh" whatever is causing your problems isn't going to be corrected or reset.

  • After installing Mavericks, computer is slow and applications are slow to open

Mavericks has slowed my IMAC to a crawl. Applications are slow to open. Disc burning is slow as well as photo editing. Any Idea's

We need more info about your iMac other than "My iMac is running slow."
What year, screen size, CPU speed and amount of RAM installed?
To find out info about your system, click on the Apple symbol in the upper left of the OS X main menu bar. A drop down menu appears. Click About this Mac. A smaller popup window appears. This gives you basic info like what version of OS X your iMac is running, the speed of your iMac's CPU and how much RAM is installed.   Click on the button that says More Info. A larger window appears giving you a complete overview of your iMac's hardware specs. Highlight all of this info and copy/paste all of this into another reply to this post, editing out your iMac's serial number before actually posting the reply. This will tell us everything about your iMac so we may begin to help with your iMac issues.
How full is your Mac's hard drive?
Locate your iMac's hard drive icon on the OS X desktop. Click the icon once, then use the keyboard key combination Command-I. This will give you additonal info about your iMac's internal hard drive.
How many applications do you run simultaneously in the background while working in another application?
Do you run any antivirus software on your Mac? Antivirus software can slow down the normal operation of OS X.
Conpletely uninstall any virus software you have installed following the anti-virus deveolper's instructions.
Do you run any "crapware" like Mackeeper or any other type of "crapware" like so called hard drive "cleaning" apps?
Another her possibilty is that some hardware, like your iMac's hard drive, could be failing.

Hi,  from the last two days my iphone( iphone 4 with ios 5) have very slow to open the apps and very slow when i check the notification window , it taking too much time to open when i tap to down . help me to resolve the issue.

    The Basic Troubleshooting Steps are:

Try this First... You will Not Lose Any Data...
    Turn the Phone Off...
Press and Hold the Sleep/Wake Button and the Home Button at the Same Time...
Wait for the Apple logo to Appear and then Disappear...
Usually takes about 15 - 20 Seconds... ( But can take Longer...)

  • Open and Save Dialogs Slow to Open and Populate

In all of my apps, the Open and Save dialogs have become very slow to open and populate since installing Snow Leopard, when the machine is connected to a Windows server. Disconnecting from the server solves the problem; reconnecting causes it to reappear.
This only happens on some of my machines, and not others
Any thoughts on what this could be. The delay is significant (about 10 seconds in all).

    Roy,
I've got the same problem. I've been charting the slowness, i.e. the time until the app responds and opens the save dialog box, and most apps hover around 2 minutes of waiting.
My home network consists of a belkin n+ router (running only with the N radio, and WPA2 security), one ethernet-connected powerbook with a USB-connected hard disk (640GB+), and my MBP connecting by wireless. The USB HD is used as a Time Machine backup disk, and the backups are extremely slow, on the order of 2 GB's per hour at most.
That said, I called up Apple Tech Support and they had me flash my PRAM, restart the machine, and Reset Safari (since that was the app I called about). These efforts, unfortunately, did not fix the issue.
I will be passing on the fact that Tech Support's efforts did not solve the problem--maybe they'll get back to me on the issue. If so, I'll post it here.

  • Report slow to open in Crystal

Some of my reports are very slow to open in Crystal Reports 2011. It can take up to a minute for a report to open.
Once the report opens, generating data is quick.
Consequently reports are slow to open in the Crystal viewer within my application as well.
It does not happen with all reports, any suggestions as to the cause or some solutions to try.
    Thank you
    Luke.

    Hi Luke,
    Moved to the SDK forum.
Any reason is you may have the Verify Database options checked on. Or it could be your report is looking for the printer in the report across your domain.
Typically though if the Verify is checked on a one minute time out happens for ODBC data sources if the DSN is not available.
    So need more info:
What version of CR Designer are you using?
What SDK and version are you using?

  • Pages on my iPad3 has become very slow to open documents after upgrading to ios7. I've clicked on a folder 5 minutes ago and am still waiting. The work-around seems to be to force-close it, but I've needed to do this many times in the last few days.

Pages on my iPad3 has become very slow to open documents after upgrading to ios7.
I posted on here about this a few weeks back and someone suggested force-closing Pages -- and that does indeed enable me to open things -- but I have had to force-close many times in the last 24 hours, which is worrying. Are there any other suggestions?
I am sometimes also finding that, when I have been writing something and then click on "documents" the screen goes blank, there is a wait of around a minute and then the same document is re-displayed, before clicking "documents" again lets me look at other documents -- which is a pain if I am trying to move between documents repeatedly. Again, words of wisdom on this would be great.
Pages under iOS6 opened quickly, and there was an immediate loss of performance when I upgraded. I am finding this very frustrating because I don't feel that the new Pages has added to the facilities I was using, but a slowness to open documents is frustrating.
    Thanks
    Mark
