Icons w/in a new tab

When I open up a new tab in Safari, I see the 15 sites/folders I have on my menu bar of my MB Air. Most of the items are sites, (NBC, Wikipedia, Google, Tiny Desk, and Wells Fargo) and all but one, Wells Fargo, show their logo. The rest are folders with a number of different sites inside of them.
I have two questions: First, do you know why Wells Fargo doesn't have a logo on the page? Second, is there a way for me to add a logo to the folders? Even if it's something generic like a guitar for the Guitar folder?
Thank you.
Chip

That is probably the about:newtab page that you see.

  • Tabs only open in a new window. Ctl T opens a new window NOT a new tab help-last update this problem started. How do I set FF back to open tabs in 1 window

Tabs only open in a new window. Ctl T opens a new window NOT a new tab help-last update this problem started 2 days ago. How do I set FF back to open tabs in 1 window?
There is no plus sign and going into optins and changing settings has not worked. I have uninstall FF and reinstall-keeping my personalization-and that was no help.
Right clicking on FF Icon to open a new tab, or going up to FF drop down tab and clicking on new tab both do not work.
Help everything opens a new window not a new tab. there seems to be no way to reset this or to chose a different optin. I just downloaded new tabs at end addon and it didn't do a thing.

as a first troubleshooting step - does it work like normally when you open & run firefox in [[Safe Mode|safemode]] by pressing the shift key while you open firefox (all other instances have to be closed before)...

  • How do I get new pages in new tabs to automatically go the same setting as my home page? Google is my home page, and I want the opening in new tabs to default to Google also.

Whenever I open a new tab, I want the new page to open to the same setting as my Home Page (in my case, Google). Instead it takes me to Bing. Even my Home Page reverts to Bing after I've set it to Google.

The default New Tab in Firefox is a blank page and there is no built-in option to change that.
*CTRL+left-click the Home icon will open a new tab to your set home page.

*This Add-on will open a new tab when clicking the new tab "+" icon (or when clicking New Tab from the menu) to whatever page you set in the options for the add-on:

  • No blank thumbnails on new tab page

    Page is completely blank.

Does it help if you open the about:newtab page directly?
Are there any (empty) slots on the about:newtab page?
If the page is blank and there is a (possibly faint) grid icon in the top right corner then click that icon in case the new tab page is hidden (pref browser.newtabpage.enabled = true).
Start Firefox in <u>[[Safe Mode|Safe Mode]]</u> to check if one of the extensions (Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Extensions) or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Appearance).

  • Garbled screen when opening a new tab

Anyone have an issue like this...
Basically, often but not always, when I hit the little + icon to open a new tab (by default to the Top Sites view), nothing happens for a few seconds, then I get the spinning disc for a few seconds, then a garbled screen for a few seconds before it appears correctly.
The garbled screen seems to be made up of enlarged dock icons, or sometimes parts of recently closed QT video.
Not sure if its a Safari glitch, or a graphics glitch that may warrant further investigation. I have horrible memories of all the nVidia nonsense, and already having logic boards replaced.
Have done all the usual maintenance stuff - clearing Safari cache, repairing discs.
Any advise very welcome - its not just safari, but generally, the machine (MBP) is starting to be a bit sluggish as if its a PC - just a few little things that on their own are practically nothing, but are starting to become a bit frustrating.

    HI,
Download and install the 10.6.2 Combo Update which includes a fix. *a graphics distortion in Safari Top Sites*
    Then repair disk permissions...
Quit any open applications/programs. Launch Disk Utility. (Applications/Utilities) Select MacintoshHD in the panel on the left, select the FirstAid tab. Click: Repair Disk Permissions. When it's finished from the Menu Bar, Quit Disk Utility and restart your Mac. If you see a long list of "messages" in the permissions window, it's ok. That can be ignored. As long as you see, "Permissions Repair Complete" when it's finished... you're done. Quit Disk Utility and *restart your Mac.*
is starting to be a bit sluggish
Check to see how much free disk space there is. Right or control click the MacintoshHD icon. Click Get Info. In the Get Info window you will see Capacity and Available. *Make sure you always have a minimum of 10% to 15% free disk space at all times.*
From the Safari Menu Bar, click Safari / Empty Cache. When you are done with that...
From the Safari Menu Bar, click Safari / Reset Safari. Select the top 5 buttons and click Reset.
Go here for trouble shooting 3rd party plugins or input managers which might be causing the problem.
Safari: Add-ons may cause Safari to unexpectedly quit or have performance issues
Since you are running Snow Leopard, *make sure Safari is opening in 32-bit mode, not 64.* Right or control click the Safari icon in the Applications folder, then click: Get Info In the Get Info window click the black disclosure triangle next to General so it faces down. Select 32 bit mode. Also, (in that same window) make sure *Safari is NOT running in Rosetta.*

Web pages now include a small icon or 'favicon' which is visible in the address bar and next to bookmarks. These icons take up disk space and slow Safari down. It is possible to erase the icons from your computer and start fresh. *To delete Safari's icon cache using the Finder, open your user folder, navigate to ~/Library/Safari/ and move this file "webpageIcons.db to the Trash.*

  • After opening a new tab, when I click on my home page (the house icon), it duplicates and opens a second window...it's never done this before?

I just installed Firefox on a new laptop. Google is my home page. My opening tab is always Google. But, when I open a New Tab, it doesn't open in Google. So, I've always clicked on the house icon to take me straight to Google. Now when I do, TWO tabs open in Google. (it duplicates)

I tried all of the above, I've reinstalled Firefox and I've checked if value set to 3 in browser.link.open_newwindow which it is, but the problem still happens.
Regarding what you say re what is written in the article Tab preferences and settings, I understand what this means. However I am using FireFox in my work. I have a CRM where I constantly click on a button that automatically opens my order system on a new tab, or email templates in a new tab etc. The tab opens next to the tab I am currently on. However ever since I was prompted to Refresh Firefox earlier, it now opens these in a new window. Therefore the size of these pages has nothing to do with it, as this was not a problem before.
This is irritating, as no I have to go from one window to another, and where I have multiple tabs open it is making my life difficult.
    Not happy!

  • New tabs do not include the history icons as before. The option to show images on a page does not appear in upper right of page.

The solution in the FAQ's is clear, but the small icon that is supposed to be showing in the upper right of a new Tab page are not showing up so that I can get the images to appear. I recently installed Java 7 and after that they had disappeared. Can you help me get them back? They are very helpful.

You can reset the browser.newtab.url pref on the <b>about:config</b> page via the right-click context menu to the default value.
You can open the <b>about:config</b> page via the location bar and you can accept the warning and click "I'll be careful" to continue
You can use the SearchReset extension to reset some preferences to the default values.
Note that the SearchReset extension only runs once and then uninstalls automatically, so it won't show on the "Firefox > Add-ons" page (about:addons).

  • Is there a way to have the 'new tab' icon on the toolbar AND have the "new tab" button at the right end of my tabs, as before? It seems to be either/or.

Under the previous version of Firefox I had the "new tab" option in both locations. When I upgraded, the one at the end of the tab line had disappeared. I used the suggestion from the forum to reset to default and it did reappear, but the icon in the toolbar had disappeared. Since there is no + in the customization window I cannot place a new one, and if I drag and drop from the tab bar it moves to the toolbar, but will not duplicate itself. I use either of these interchangeably, and having only one or the other is a real annoyance, and does slow me down when doing multiple searches or otherwise utilizing multiple tabs.

Hi, I have a similar problem with 12.0 of Firefox. The 'Add New Tab' tab has moved from the righthand end of open tabs to the left hand end.
If I right click on an empty tab area and select customize the "Add New Tab' tab disappears and an Add New Tab icon appears at the right hand end. I can drag and drop this icon into the Customize Toolbar window.
However if I drag it from the window back to the Tab toolbar area on the right. It initially appears on the right. Then clicking 'Done' on the Customize Toolbar window converts the icon to a tab but places it back at the left hand end of the tabs.
I'm sure this didn't happen before - so it's a possibility I have messed something up but I can't seem to correct it?

  • I used to be able to click the Home icon using my center wheel to cause a new tab to open with my home page. This feature no longer works. Please advise.

Suddenly, when I click the Home icon in the upper right of my Firefox page using my center wheel, a new tab no longer opens as
my home page. Now, nothing happens when I do this.

There's an extension or two, or a combination of extensions which seem to be causing that in Firefox 6.0.2. One that has been mentioned is TabMix Plus.
    http://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/troubleshooting+extensions+and+themes
You need to figure out what is causing it, and disable that extension/s until they are fixed by their developer.

  • Is there a way to open a new tab/window by clicking the Safari dock icon?

Is there a way to open a new tab or window by clicking the Safari dock icon? Right now, the default behavior seems to be that Safari simply un-minimizes or displays the last window in focus.
I want to be able to quickly fire up a new tab or window in Safari when it is out of focus, such as when Finder is in focus. The workaround right now is to right-click on the Safari dock icon, and select "New Window", or to allow the last window in focus to appear, and cmd+t or cmd+n. But this is too many steps over the course of a day for a highly frequented task like this.

I'm glad that helped. Thanks for posting back.
... when I save this as an application as "run only", it's relatively quick to run, but there's a delay to load... I assume it's opening Script Editor every time?
As long as the script is saved as an application -- Run Only or not -- it should definitely not cause the Script Editor to open. You can verify this by closing the Script Editor application altogether prior to clicking on the docked script icon that you saved. You should notice that the Script Editor does not open when the script is run.
FWIW, I went back and saved a version of the script as a Run Only app, and I didn't notice any difference between it and the original, which was saved without the Run Only option checked. The delay that you're noticing might be accounted for by the fact that the script, because it was saved as an application, will be activated just as any other standalone application would be. This happens prior to Safari being activated. Watch your menu bar when clicking on the docked script icon and you should see the name of the saved script app appear for a split second before Safari gets activated.
The only time I can think of that you might wish to save the script as a Run Only application would be if you wanted to conceal the script for some reason. If, for example you were publishing the script as a part of an application release and didn't want its contents known, or you didn't want an end user to be able to edit the script, you might select the Save As > Run Only option. To illustrate this, try dragging and dropping a script saved as a Run Only application onto the Script Editor's icon. You should see a warning dialog to this effect:
*Unable to read the file because the script is not editable (it was saved as run-only).*
Whereas if you drag a script that was not saved as a Run Only app onto the Script Editor's icon, the script should open in the Editor, and it can be edited.
I played around with the "stay open" option for saving the script as an application, but it appears I have to close the app and reopen it before I can get it to work a second time.
The Stay Open option is appropriate for scripts which use an "On Idle" handler, which really wouldn't apply in this case. Check out more on Idle Handlers here and here.
Is there a faster way to use this multiple times throughout the day?
One way you might speed up the action would be to save the script +as a script+ by choosing Save As > File Format: script from the Script Editor's File menu. The resulting script can then be activated by assigning a hot key to it using one of several 3rd-party keyboard shortcut programs available on the Internet. (I used Spark, assigned a function key to the script I posted earlier, and found the action to run significantly faster.)
    Good luck.

  • How can I create an icon for "New Tab" (not "new window") on the toolbar?

I want to have an icon for New Tab on the toolbar. I cannot find such icon on the Customize option.
    Is this possible?
BTW I tried to check options-->tabs-->open new windows in a new tab instead, but this does not help and when clicking the "new Window" icon on the toolbar, indeed a new window - and not a new tab - opens.
    Thanks.

You can open the Customize window and drag the New Tab (+) button form the tab bar on another toolbar. It will become a regular New Tab toolbar button.
Open the Customize window via "View > Toolbars > Customize" or via "Firefox > Options > Toolbar Layout"
