ICS Problems

In briefly scanning the forums I can see that I am not the only one having issues with the new ICS update. While I do like the new layout and some of the new features, I really dislike this update as it has caused my phone to work poorly and also very slowly.
My current issues (I am sure I will encounter more) are:
1. Cannot get any sound whatsoever, even with volume turned all the way up.
2. Cannot access my gallery, cannot locate my pics at all anywhere (probably THE most upsetting issue).
3. A lot of my apps force close often, or don't work at all even after uninstalling and reinstalling.
4. When phone first boots to homescreen after I unlock it, I get this message "unfortunately the process android.process.media has stopped". I have no idea what that means.
These are the ones that I have noticed in the 18 hours since the update. The issue that concerns me the most is my pictures. And second, volume. I would really like to resolve the issues without losing my pics, and it would be really nice to be able to hear my phone when I receive calls or text messages.
Any advice would be helpful, and if possible, please be very detailed as I am not that tech savvy.
Thank you in advance for any help that you can provide.

Thanks so much for visiting our forum, 2themaxx.
ICS was a large file that was installed on the device. At times there may be apps that are not compatible with the new software version.
At this point, it would be best to hard reset the device.

  • Toshiba - PLEASE FIX THE THRIVE ICS PROBLEM or OFFER REFUNDS OR UPGRADES

My story is no different from others on this forum.  I bought a Thrive 10" in January.  Thought it was great.  Installed the ICS update from Toshiba in August and started having the same problems as many others have listed.
Because the Thrive is not my primary computing/surfing tool, I overlooked the problems, thinking that Toshiba would finally post a patch update and the issues resolved.  After waiting 4 months, I contacted Toshiba support to get help.  Though the tech support was courteous, they had no solution other than going through the ineffective process of suggesting a hard reset to "factory settings" which did nothing.  Browser still crashes, unit locks up, SD card issues, etc.
I cannot say this is all 100% factual but here is what I was able to learn from Tech Support.
Toshiba did not develop the ICS update.  It was provided by a third party.
There is no fix/patch that a user can install.  The tablet will need to be sent to a service center.
There is no way for the user to roll back to R3.X (Honeycomb).  That will require a service technician.
There does not appear to be any plan to provide a patch to fix the problems.
Toshiba assumes no responsibility for the ICS problems.  The ICS upgrade was solely at the customer's discretion.  Too bad it didn't work.
This is a software problem.  Toshiba warrants the hardware only.  Even if the Thrive is still under warranty, the customer will have to pay for repair.
I'm just guessing but I get the impression that there are multiple builds of the Thrive, likely using different internal components.  If you consider the level of integration between the hardware and software on a tablet, it could be there is no "one size fits all" fix.
Saying all that, I cannot believe Toshiba, a major supplier, is willing to risk its reputation by not fixing a problem that it has created.  I believe they should:
Provide a patch release to solve the problem.
If the user cannot perform the update, provide the service at no charge.
If it can't be fixed, offer a replacement Thrive or credit towards a new tablet.
Refund the cost of the Thrive.
I will continue to contact/badger Toshiba Tech Support until this problem is resolved and would hope other users on this forum will do the same.

I would say I hope and pray they don't "offer a replacement Thrive or credit towards a new tablet."  I will never buy another Trashiba again after this POS.  I am looking at a Samson now.
What they need to do, is offer the ROM for HC on their site where you can download it copy to the SD card and install from the recovery mode (and recovery mode install is not that hard even a idiot can do it with the proper instructions instructions
Reboot while holding the up volume and power button
when presented with the 2 icons select the one with the box, using volume rocker to select and power for enter
select apply update from SD card
that how it is on most if not all android devices)
But with the problems with the "thrive" and the fact that it not root able nor can you get a replacement rom, I will never buy another trashiba, I have already talked 3 people out of buying trashibas (unhappy customers usally leads to negative recomendations and loss sales but it not like thrashiba cares what 4 customers?)
Plus I am very sure the way they are doing things at thrashiba they are probably in violations of the GNU.

  • ICS Problems with D4

I just downloaded ICS to my Droid 4.  I know ICS is geared around 4G service.  Since downloading, I have had real good service in 4G areas.  However, my 3G area service has been terrible.
I live in a 3G area and before downloading, I would have 3 and 4 bars on my service.  Since downloading ICS, I am lucky to have 2 bars.  And it is not only in my home area.  I was in an area yesterday that is very saturated 3G area.  Where I usually have full bar service.  Most of the day I had only 3 bars of service.
I know that the update was not suppose to have anything to do with signal strength.  But is it possible that it is blocking 3G to an extent somehow?
Someone please help.  I am having serious problem with service at home.  I have contacted VZM tech support.  They tried to call me and the call would not go through.  They have put in a repair ticket, but I always get the same answer from the field techs.  I live in a limited service area.
I do live in a rural area with only one tower.  But I am smack in the middle of the coverage area.  I SHOULD have and have had great coverage in the past, but I don't now for some reason.
I have tired a network extender.  My internet is not strong enough for it to work.
Someone please help.  Any suggestion will be appreciated.  Except to move.  LOL

I did a Factory Reset to my phone after the upgrade.  Phone acting up was blamed on an app that "might" have been causing problems.  Might have been.  I love that line.  When ever someone (VZW or Motorola) has an issue with a phone, right off the bat it is an app causing the problem.
I know a virus can invade a phone and a computer and such, but with all the hype before marketing, I thought that the D4 was such a secure phone.
But to answer the question about the battery life.  I have not seen any issue with my battery life since ICS.
ICS has made my D4 faster.  And some things even work better.  But maybe, just maybe they should think about fixing the bugs next time before releasing a major "upgrade".  I know every bug can't be "fixed".  I totally understand that.  But to me this seems like more than a slight problem with ICS.
Mindy.  My suggestion with the iPhone.  Please don't be a fool.  I will stack my D4 up against any iPhone out there and have on many occasions.  And even with the problems right now with the ICS.  I still take my D4 over an iPhone without even a thought.
I use my D4 daily and not just at a phone.  I watch TV.  I listen to music.  I send and receive emails.  Like any normal phone.  But I have done searches with my phone that iPhone can't do.  I have done internet things on my D4 that the iPhone can't do.  And please, all you iPhone users, don't ask me what.  I have no idea.  I don't use an iPhone.  All I am going by is using them side by side.
People have asked me to do things with my phone that they can't do with their iPhone.  And yes.  There are things that the iPhone can do that the D4 can't do.  But as of yet, I haven't found anything that I could not do without.  In the reverse.  There are things that my D4 does that the iPhone doesn't that I couldn't live without.

  • TS1702 mime-attachment.ics problem

When I'm sent a calendar entry (appointment) from a colleagues pc using Outlook it arrives as a mime-attachment.ics. Until recently I could click the icon and it would register as an appointment on the iPhone calendar. For reasons that mystify me it doesn't do this now. Can anyone please tell me why, and what I can do to rectify this? Many thanks

Outlook does allow for the outlook calendar invite to be forwarded as an iCalendar. Yet when it is sent it is still sent as a '.ICS' attachment.
That's because .ics, .ical, .icalendar are all the same:
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ICalendar
About all you can do is hope Apple implements support for handoff of .ics attachments from Mail to Calendar on the iPhone. You can certainly express your desire for that:

  • WiFi Problem NEO V even after downgrade

now i downgraded my Neo V from ICS to GB 2.3.4 and guess what !!!!!, i have the same Wi-Fi problem, i still can't see and connect on 90% of the serounded networks, so now i have to live with it !!!!!???
i think the phone is harmed, and i think thats the problem. sony didn't just release a bad ICS rom, but also the phone it self is effected

i am glad that i went there! really i am, they come clean from the begining,
    1) then don't support ICS till now.
    2) they only can downgrade to 2.4.5
    3) they have no idea about when the ICS problem will be fixed (but they also tell me that there are  customer happy with it).
    4) i can't leave my phone as i have work calles to do at night so they dongraded the phone but they didn't try the wireless yet as they need time, so they informed me to try it my self and if there is a problem i can come back but i should leave my phone to be tested.
i have the phone now but i still didn't check the wirless problem, my home network was working on ICS so i will wait till tomorrow so that i can check many routers as i will be at work.
the thing is:- i love ICS layout and sittings, new options but after the SC handed the phone to me i sense the deference in the touch , respond , and the speed of the phone.
i will report tomorrow after i test the wireless. i wish to works

  • AT100 in Australia

In Australia the Thrive was released as the AT100 and runs Android 3.0.  Strangely there have been no upgrades available through Service Station since release despite reading here about several releases.
Does anyone know why the Australian users are locked on this old version of Android and with no updates?
    Ray

Don't update to Toshiba's ICS ROM! I think you're lucky that they've neglected to roll it out in all regions.
Toshiba's ISC update (Android 4.x) is full of bugs that most likely will cause reduced funtionality.
In my case, mine suffered from:
Wi-Fi Sleep Bug: Almost every time you awake from sleep after Wi-Fi has turned off to save battery power, Wi-Fi fails to reconnect and you have to manually turn off Wi-Fi and turn it back on again to reconnect. Only solid way around this is to set Wi-Fi to never turn off, but this causes a significant additional drain on the battery while sleeping. Sometimes, the On/Off button get's stuck and you have to reboot to fix it.
Sleep of Death: On occasion the tablet will not awake from sleep mode and you have to do a force re-boot by holding down the power button.
Poor Memory Management: I can't exactly define what that means, but I've heard it results in memory leaks. I've heard this defined as the cause of all the web-browsers that don't have their own memory management constantly crashing (especially when scolling). Currently, the only browser I can use that doesn't crash every couple of minutes is Mozilla Firefox for Android, apparently because it has it's own memory management. I know the browsers in honeycomb had crashing issues, but this update made them much worse.
Lag when updating Apps: Everything tends to lag when an app is updating in the background.
Apparently Toshiba is aware of the issues, but they don't appear to intend to fix it. They're most likely busy with their new tablet line and don't plan to support the Thrive anymore. I think Peter said they have no plans.
I'll eventually figure out how to root this Thrive and install a custom Jellybean ROM from the developers at Thrive Forums (hilarious that third party developers have made more stable ROMS than Toshiba).
Anyway, that's just some friendly advice. The ICS update has only brought me (and a lot of other users) problems. Their latest Honeycomb (3.x) was Toshiba's most stable, I believe.

  • Problem importing ics files into iCal

Importing ics files into iCal is the problem, but first here is the background on why I'm trying to import.
I have an iMac and iPad, and recently changed my iPhone 3G for an iPhone 4S.  Having got the iPhone 4S I have now set up all my devices to use iCloud.  In moving iCal to iCloud an extra calendar was created "automatically" in iCal, called "Me".  This "Me" calendar contains a partial duplicate of my main calendar, which is called "My Calendar".  In fact, some of the events from "My Calendar" seem to have been moved to "Me", and some have been duplicated.
It seems as it I now need to merge the "Me" and "My calendar" calendars to get back to where I was.
I have tried to export one of the calendars and then re-import it into the other.  The export seems to work fine, but every single time I try to re-import the ics file iCal crashes at the end of the import process, and the import is not completed.
Can anyone help?  This has been driving me absolutely crazy today!
I even tried manually moving events from one calendar to another, but they reappeared.  I think this was because my iPhone/iPad were re-syncing via iCloud and overwriting the changes I had just made.
I don't mind if I end up with one calendar with duplicates as I can remove them with iCal Dupe Deleter.
Or if there are any other alternative solutions I'd love to hear them!
    All help greatly appreciated!
(P.S. Is it just me, or is Apple software slowly getting as unreliable as Windows used to be?  I get more problems with software updates now than when I first got a Mac about 8 years ago!)

Not a great answer but I dragged the attachment either to the finder - app - ical or the icon. It placed it on the calendar. I clicked in and accepted. So, no auto populate. Need to drag and drop. So glad I paid the 20 bucks to upgrade to 10.8

  • ICal 3.x .ics import - problem with recurring events and non-unique UIDs

Upgraded to Leopard over the holiday break. Under Tiger's iCal (v2.x), .ics files exported from other calendar programs (Outlook via iAppoint/O2M in this case) and imported into iCal behaved 'normally'. However, in iCal 3.x in Leopard, for recurring appointments in the exported calendar, only the last appointment in the series shows up in iCal (although some meetings show up for about 0.25 seconds during the calendar import, then immediately disappear! This post by MalcolmS provided the critical clue - it seems that for recurring events, the .ics file has all of the events in the series with the same UID. Previous versions of iCal didn't care, but v3 apparently does - and deletes all earlier versions of the event, leaving only the last one with that UID. I confirmed that is the case by opening the .ics file in Word, which clearly showed all of the recurring events, and all the events in a series (e.g. a weekly meeting for the year) had the same UID. After the import to iCal, only the last one is in the calendar (in the above example, the one meeting of the series occurring in the last week of December). Manually editing the UIDs of a recurring series in the .ics file (to make them actually unique) allows them to all show up in iCal after import.
Since many of the events in my Outlook calendar are accepted invites for recurring appointments, re-creating them as individual calendar events in Outlook is not a viable option. The frequency of changes to my calendar means I usually export it once per day (or twice); thus, manually editing the .ics files is also not a viable option.
Any suggestions on workarounds for this problem? Alternatively, any other suggestions for getting the calendar data from Outlook into iCal?
    Thanks in advance!

Moot point, as direct iPhone access to the Exchange server is now supported by our IT department.

  • Problems with stuck/dead pixels, battery life, ICS, and other problems

    Stuck/Dead Pixels:
I bought my Droid Razr at around the 21st of December last year. On or around Christmas, I found a bright red pixel on the very bottom of my screen. Unlucky for me, I was leaving for Florida on Christmas Night. I got back on December 31st. Sometime in the first week of this year, I visited my verizon store and told the customer service lady that I had a dead pixel on my screen and had just bought it. But, she told me that she needed the manager to fix this and there was no manager there. For the next week I was busy with school and sports etc and was not able to go back to the store. It was now past my 14 day return period. So I decided, its only one pixel, most people won't notice it anyway. So here I am 5 months later, just starting to discover more pixels dying on my screen. I now have the one bright red one, two light blue ones, and one dark red. I have no idea what the return policy is on defective phones, and the verizon site is designed so that you can't find anything. And an FYI, I have tried stuck pixel removers and other apps, which  haven't been successful.
    Battery Life:
I have also been finding more problems with my phone. The battery life is terrible when 4G and even 3G are on. I actually see no difference in battery consumption between 3G/4G.  My battery dies  about 4-5X faster when data is turned on, compared to using no data. I know it isn't because of the apps I installed since when I use WiFi, the battery is alright. I also make sure that my RAM isn't above 400MB, so that the processor doesn't use a lot of battery. I feel like I completely wasted my money buying the Razr. Mainly because of the fact that the Razr Maxx was announced two weeks later, which has about 80% more battery. Not only this, but I've seen the Razr selling for only ONE PENNY on amazon over the past month and it still is. I payed $300 on my Razr.
    Ice Cream Sandwich:
After these major problems comes another one, that I bet all Razr and Razr Maxx customers are still thinking about. When will I get Ice Cream Sandwich? It is very disappointing when you are told that you will be getting an upgrade in early 2012, and are still wondering where your upgrade is 5 full months in. From what I understand, we won't see an upgrade until the end of June, since Motorola has posted on their website that "rollouts" would begin in the second quarter. Even if they release it by the end of June, when will it get to your phone? Maybe another week or two for some people. This is another thing that I feel I wasted my money on. My brother told me to get the Nexus because of ICS, but I trusted Motorola that they would upgrade my phone in a timely manner. WRONG.
    Phone Freezing:
One more problem that I've had is that the phone will freeze. Usually you only need to turn the screen off and on, but once in a while, you have to completely reboot your phone. When I was coming back from Florida, right as I was about to get home, my phone completely froze. I was about to go return it, but after about 15-20 minutes, it became unfrozen.
    Motion Sensor not functioning:
Another problem, an annoying one, is that sometimes the motion sensor that controls portrait and landscape mode will just stop working. Some of the games I play are completely dependent on the motion sensor. It is very embarrassing  when you are trying to show off to an iPhone friend and major components of your phone aren't working. They always tell me "why didn't you get an iPhone?". And I really just wanted to have a phone that didn't look like everyone else's, but I guess that comes at a cost. When the motion sensor stops working, I have to shut down my phone and restart, which takes a couple minutes.
    Problems with camera:
My last problem would be with the camera. Sometimes if you bring the camera close to something, like a barcode, it will keep trying to focus, but never will. Another problem is photo quality in low light situations. It seems like the camera can't focus because it goes from being very dark into being bright because of the flash. I doubt this can be fixed because it's hardware, but a potential fix could be having the option to keep the LED light on during picture mode, that way the camera will be able to focus correctly.
    In Conclusion:
I really just want someone to tell me how to return my phone for a new one, due to the dead pixels. I also wish I could be upgraded to the Razr Maxx because of the poor battery life on the Razr, but from what other people are saying, that probably won't happen. And finally, if anyone has more info about Ice Cream Sandwich, that would be awesome.

Well since it's a Manufacturing Error it should Fall under your Warranty if you got one with your Razr. You know you can Call C.S. an they can Assist you with the Matter on it.. Just remember to have another phone so they can Trouble shoot the One that is Experiencing the Issue an when you talk to them go over thing. An they should send you C.G.A.N unless they request you to send it in before you get anther one. If you feel Better going to the Store try that. And Good Luck..

  • Wireless router connection problems after ICS update

    Good Morning (sort of)
I just got ICS on my Thunderbolt and now the wifi connection cycle between "save", "obtaining ip address" and "connected".
It will not stay connected. I've forgotten the connection and reestablished it to no avail. The connection is WEP to support
    a couple of old devices.
Any help would be greatly appreciated - I have a home server that I now can no longer connect to because it's on the LAN side
of the router and my phone is not.

I've been having the same problems keeping a wifi connection (both at home and work) since I upgraded to ICS as well. I just tried the "forget" (as suggested in this post) here at work and it seems to be working better now--connected for about 30mins now. I'll have to try this when I get home tonight. Thanks!
