  • Solaris: Increase the swap space

    Hi all,
I am the developer, not the DBA, but actually should make some DBA-job.
On our solaris server I should increase the swap space, but I don't know how to make this...
From time to time I get the following error message in system log files:

    Many thanks!

Check what is using the memory and if that is necessary.
    1. can you safely shrink the SGA ? you would need to check the AWR reports, or recommended sizes.
    2. can you safely shrink the PGA ? you would need to check the AWR reports, or recommended sizes)
    3. can you reduce the number of processes ? (are there lots of idle processes ?)
    4. can you tune sql to use less memory ?
If you can't reduce allocated memory, check if you can add RAM to the server / container.
If you still think you need to increase swap, you may need to add another disk (what is /dev/md/dsk/d60 ?). You can easily google for the Solaris commands to add swap, but if you are not familiar with this process I would not recommend you do it by yourself. Ask Oracle Support to provide the commands, and TEST them on a DEV box, followed by reboots etc to confirm it works.

  • Problem of swap space

when i install the free downloaded solaris 8 for intel on a
    machine which has a 7899 card, a 17G hard drive and 1G
RAM, therecome warning saying /temp file system full, swap space limitexceed......no swap space to grow stack...... then the installprocess stopes there. i create a boot partition, a
solaris partition and a swap space of 1G, 5G and 8G
respectively. besides, every time i create partitions and reboot
there will be another small active boot partition. any help will
    be appreciated.
    thanks

  • Swap space

    Hi
I intend to install oracle 10 R2 on redhat linux 5 , my system have 64 gb ram
how much swap space i need to setup for this size of ram
i check some installation docoment it mention
if the memory is 1 to 8 gig then it should be double
if it is more than 8 gig then it should be 0.75 of mrmory size
if this is the method then for my ram size i need to set 48 Gb
is this is right size , i am wondering this size seems like very huge size
pls advise what is the right size for 64 gb RAM
    RDS

    The documentation states:
http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/B19306_01/install.102/b15667/pre_install.htm#i1011296The system must meet the following minimum hardware requirements:
swap space ... More than 8192 MB -> 0.75 times the size of RAM>
So, probably it will work with less memory but if you want a supported configuration, then assign the required space, hard disks are so cheap.

Wrong version of what? Solaris was installed from JumpStart CD and patched appropriately. NFS server components came with the installation.
What steps should I take to have NFS in service? More patches? Which ones? I really need NFS running ASAP.

  • Jul 30 15:01:23 server scsi: [ID 107833 kern.warning] WARNING: /pci@1e,6000

    Hi,
I need help regarding below kernel warning message :
    Jul 30 15:01:23 server scsi: [ID 107833 kern.warning] WARNING: /pci@1e,6000
I am new to solaris, and am unable to understand this.I want to know,
    1) What this warning exactly means.
    2) Is this warning important or can be negated.
    3) what causes this warning to generate again and again.
Please let me know if you want any further information regarding this.
    Thanks & Regards,
    Girish

That error message is something to do with a storage device. But its cut off, /pci indicates a pci card, and 1e,6000 is a partial address to the card. You need to post the next few lines as well.

    Hi.
Unfortunetly you not write what server you have.
*/pci@8,700000/scsi@1* look like Internal SCSI controller in Sun Fire V880.
For this server Target 6.0 is CD-ROM (DVD-ROM).
So it's look like problem with device.
    For check you can use:
    ls -la /dev/rdsk/*s2 | grep "/pci@8,700000/scsi@1"
iostat -EnCheck internal cable to CD-ROM. Replace or disconnect CDROM.
    Regards.

  • How to set the limit for the warning 'running out of disk space'

I am wondering if there's a way to set the number of GB before I get the system warning 'running out of disk space'.
I saw this question asked in 2010 and it did not get an answer. It was archived so I am asking again. I know how to monitor the available space on my startup disk, and how to empty the trash to clear up disk space. I am looking for an OS X setting that I can change.

My guess is that you want to lower the limit. IMHO I think the limit is alreay too low.
If you are seeing this warning regularly then your disk is severely overfull and needs to be replaced with a larger one.
Running the free space low eenough to get the warning greatly increases the chances for disk corruption. Once the disk gets corrupted then then next thing that happens is data lose.
You have a serious problem with your Mac that should be dealt with immediately.
Backing your data up would also be a good idea if you are not already doing that.

  • [SSIS.Pipeline] Warning: Warning: Could not open global shared memory to communicate with performance DLL

    Hi All,
I am running an SSIS solution that runs 5 packages in sequence.  Only one package fails because of the error:
[SSIS.Pipeline] Warning: Warning: Could not open global shared memory to communicate with performance DLL; data flow performance counters are not available.  To resolve, run this package as an administrator, or on the system's console.
I have added myself to the performance counters group.
I am running windows 7 with SSIS 2008.
Any ideas would be appreciated.  I have read that some have disabled the warning, but I cannot figure out how to disable a warning.
    Thanks.
    Ivan

    Hi Ivan,
A package would not fail due the warning itself, speaking of which means the account executing it is not privileged to load the Perf counters, and should thus be safely ignored.
    To fix visit: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2496375/en-us
So, the package either has an error or it actually runs.

  • " Title on the warning : warning, a problem occurred"

I've just bought final cut studio 2. i've installed it and everything seems ok, BUT... when I switch on the mac, a window now appears, bearing the symbol of FCP and it says, more or less (I translate it from french) :
" Title on the warning : warning, a problem occurred"
I've reinstalled FCP, I've trown the prefs, I've updated to 6.1... but nothing... the message remains, everytime I switch on the mac....
It actually doesn't seem to affect the applications... but it quite affect my nerves, after having spent 1000€ for this app... ;-)))
    If anyone can help...
    thanx!

thanks javabob, but I cant find it
...maybe in my french mac it's called in a different
    way.
could you kindly tell me the complete name of the
file and where you found it in your mac precisely?
that would help me a lot in matching the correct
    file.
    hanks
    found it!
it's in system preferences/accounts. in 'open programs' you can delete anything you don't want to appear when you restart the mac. I had actually a few programs that would lauch themselves automatically.... by deleting them here I solved all these problems, including the annoying 'alert' pop up window!

Are you installing using the Installation CD?
If so, try booting and installing with the Software 1 of 2 CD.
    Hope that helps.

    Taher

    Hi Taher,
And i had really hard time installing ADI today. I did install ADI but was not able to configure. I copied the tnsnames.ora file from $TNS_ADMIN(8.0.6 O_H) to c:\orant\network\net80 and c:\orant\network\network. But it says could not connect to database. What is the complete error message?
    What is the ADI version?
Did you run "ADI Diagnostic Wizard"? If yes, does it show any error/warning messages?
And there is another directory orawin95, this also contains the network,net80 folders. Should i copy tnsnames.ora to this directory as well. And should i remove sqlnet.ora from these directories as well..You will have to copy the file to both directories. Btw, what does the tnsping return?
Plz any step by step document for installing it. I followed the UVA (University of Virginia) documents and configured it properlu. Still the same problem. There are many documents available and I believe the installation of ADI is strightforward. However, you may see these documents.

  • Swap space limit exceeded

We come across a problem that the swap space ( 1GB) used up eventually without any warning and that causes the system down.
How can we find out what causes this happen?
We have Oracle 8i server running on this machine (Solaris 7). Does Oracle cause this problem?

I fixed this stupid activity a couple of weeks ago. Since "edd" seemed to be the problem, I found "edd" skulking as "/opt/SUNWssp/bin/edd" and simply chmod'ed it to "000."
"edd" doesn't seem to serve a purpose (except to tie up all your memory), and this solution has fixed the problem. Whatever it is that calls "edd" in the first place, it can't make it run any more! :-)
I suggest using the same procedure... find out what program it is that's consuming all your swap space, and then zap it (if you can afford to not have it available).
