ID CS6 Kindle Plugin Export Error

I'm using InDesign 6 v 8.0.1 on a Mac Pro running OS X 10.7.5 Lion.
After giving up on the Kindle Plugin for InDesign last year -- I couldn't install it, like others -- I finally managed to get the plugin to install today.
I fired up one of my simplest current projects: a single document, no images, no links, two paragraph styles. Then I happily went up to the File menu, selected Export for Kindle..., was shown a Save dialog, hit Save....
And got the following error message: Bad argument list
Once I hit the OK button, another error message popped up:
An attached script generated the following error:
object does not support the property or method 'merged'
I gather that there's a runtime error in the export script somewhere -- but the script doesn't show up in my script folders, so even if I knew what I was doing (which I wouldn't) I can't find the plugin script.
What gives? I know it's an Amazon plugin (I'm posting on the KDP forums as well), but has anyone else here run into this problem?

I'm afraid I'd only be guessing at this point. I don't do epub at all. I do know, however, that CS5.5 tends to work better than CS5, and CS6 better still.
One thing would be to make sure your CS5 is fully patched to the 7.0.4 update.

  • Kindle plugin export only converts one file

I am using InDesign 5.0. I installed the lastest version of the Kindle Plugin. I open all my individual indd book chapters (14 in all) and then create a book file which I save (and make sure the TOC styles are copied into the primary Style Source file). When I click the Export to Kindle option, the plugin only converts whatever single indd file I have selected in the window (however all are open in the window). Why is it not converting all 14 of my book chapters at once into one file? I am a new user of InDesign (less than a year) and maybe I am missing something that is so very obvious that I cannot see it -- if you know what I mean. :-) Can anyone explain to me the error of my ways? Thank you! ~ Carolyn

  • Do I need to make folios when using "export to kindle" plugin?

I am making an interactive magazine (links and pictures are clickable) that is composed mostly of pictures. I've gone through lots of tutorials on how to make folios and preview them on your ipad which works great. I would now like to upload it to Amazon to be bought as an e-book and have downloaded the "export to kindle plugin", which shows you can export a document. Can I export a whole folio or do I have to make my magazine be in one single document and then export it?
If anyone has an alternative way I can upload my folio to Amazon ebooks, that would be great.
Also I have one more question: the folder structure for folios shows I have to have a "links" folder in ever folder within the folio, what is supposed to go in here? (please be specific, I'm a newbie)
    Thankss

  • Export project to Kindle (plugin)

    Hi:
I need to export my Indesign project to Kindle...
There used to be a Kindle plugin for the CS 5 and 6 version but now I do not see one for the cloud...
How am I going to export my project  ready for Amazon Kindle readers?
    Any suggestions or ????
    Thanks

  • Every time I start Illustrator CS6 I get an error message: "Error loading plugin AIHostAdapter.aip.

Every time I start Illustrator CS6 I get an error message:
"Error loading plugin AIHostAdapter.aip. I have tried reloading the program, updating, everything. I've checked the forums but no one seems to have a solution

I am not sure. Here is a screenshot.  Many people are having this problem. I am wondering what it is and what it does exactly and can't seem to find an answer to that question.
I deleted Illustrator CS6  yesterday and reloaded the program. I am on a Mac, Maverick 10.9. The strange thing is the dates. All plugins [in the file] correspond with the Illy CS6 reload except that particular Plugin?
Can I delete the file or is it a necessary plugin?

  • Quicktime Export Error: "An output module stopped responding."

I'm experiencing an odd export error whenever I use any Quicktime codecs:
"After Effects error: An output module stopped responding. The file may be damaged or corrupted. You may need to restart After Effects."
Similarly, Adobe Media Encoder hangs when outputting to Quicktime codecs. Neither program makes any progress at all before the hang occurs. At that point, I have to manually "end task" to exit. Also, it doesn't seem to matter what I try to export. In AME, for example, I can simply try to convert one video format to another and have it hang, so I don't think the problem is due to a problem with the source settings or effects. Also, I'm not attempting any multiprocessing since I don't really have enough RAM for that. Other output modules work, so I'm just exporting image sequences for the time being.
    System specs:
    Windows 7 64-bit
    Intel i7-2600k processor
    8 GB RAM
    GTX 580 GPU
    Software:
    Adobe CS6
AE Plugins include Tracode Suite 12 and Optical Flares
    Quicktime 7.7.3
Any thoughts on this? I've seen very few references to this error in other places, and not really found a solution that seems to apply to my situation. Thanks in advance for your help.
    Josh

Thanks for setting me in the right direction. Clicking through to the 25 :: 101 error page (http://myleniumerrors.com/2013/01/06/25-101-4/) led me to a reference about other software, such as remote access software, using the same ports that AE needs for communication with its various processes. In my case, LogMeIn was the culprit. I had no idea that AE even used TCP for these types of operations, so that's very helpful to know.
    *EDIT*
That worked temporarily, and now it doesn't work. I ran into a similar effect when I first disabled the Windows Firewall. But of course, as I type this and piddle around, it works again. It SEEMS like if I open AME and click into the output settings and scrub through the video preview, it makes everything work when I go to actually export. That's exactly the type of thing I would say is completely unrelated under normal circumstances, but at the moment all I know is that it is currently working and I don't want to test anything else until I finish the rendering I need to accomplish today. I'll work on it more later and post an update at that time.
    Thanks,
    Josh

  • Kindle plugin crashes and bugs

    Hello,
I've been using Indesign since 2001 for publishing Bibles (large Books of 700+ pages).
Recently, I started using the Kindle plugin for CS4. The first Kindle Book was successful, but I have some bugs to report.
Just about every time I start the export to Kindle process, the export crashes and I get a popup saying "Object invalid" or "not an Object". I restart the export, and it runs. Go figure.
Sometimes, the export will halt part way through the process, and popup the same message(s) about an invalid object.
If this doesn't happen, the resulting .mobi file is good and usable. Although I have found that any indented text (such as a Table of Contents [just text not hyperlinked or anything]) with 3 levels of indentation will not line up correctly in the outputted file; and anything I do to correct it doesn't seem to work; and the result will look different in different Kindle devices, according to the Kindle emulator tool.
If these problems are ignored and an output .mobi file can be generated, the Kindle file is pretty good. It is much better quality than a comparable .mobi file generated starting with Word documents, then using the Amazon emulator tool to convert it to .mobi. So kudos to Adobe guys, your product is performing better than the alternative, but there are still warts.
The 2nd problem I am having currently, is that I have another Bible version that I have prepared for exporting to Kindle format, using identical everything  to the previous Bible version. There are 40 individual documents tied together by a "Book", relatively small sizes. Every time I have tried to export this Book to Kindle, it crashes, and I have no idea why. I tried "save as" for every document, so each one would be a clean file.
I just did another export, and I got the following error popup that you can see here. Please help if you can. Thanks

I think I figured out what was wrong.
I was using a Book with 40 different documents tied together into a single Book.
I created a new document and "repoured" the content from the single documents into the new single document with a lot more pages. After adding several of the single doc contents, I did a test run to see if the old bugs would should up, and not a single one did.
I still need to repour all of the content into the new single document and retest, but I've got a feeling that this was the problem. It appears that the Kindle plugin works fine with single docs, but not with Books and a bunch or even a few single docs tied together. That creates crashes, and it always results in that error that you see in the photo above.
That should help you all to run down the source of the problem.
I liked the Book w/ single docs, because I needed to create a TOC with each single doc. If they're all together when creating the TOC, unless you do a lot of extra work making special styles for each TOC, it all globs together and that's not what was desired.
So anyway, I hope this helps. I'll post again, once I get it all combined tomorrow and rerun the export, and let you know the results.

  • Images When Converting InDesign CS5.5 using Kindle plugin

    Hi,
I've been reading, looking for a solution to an image conversion problem. If I create and place an image in Illustrator (for example combining a car drawing and the sun-2 items in one drawing), then export an ePub, convert for Kindle to mobi using the Kindle plugin or Calibre, I am getting the second item (in this case the sun) below the car instead of where it should be. I've tried every conceiveable variation: re-did the image in Fireworks as a PNG, re-saved into jpeg, used the AI image directly, etc. I've unzipped the ePub, but can see no way to fix the car-sun problem.
original as placed in InDesign project                  converted version
Any help with this image problem much appreciated. (Wish: CS6 InDesign exports for mobi).
    Regards,

    Hi,
I didn't combine in the above image in InDesign. The car was a PNG to which I added a star drawing: probably tried it in Fireworks and Illustrator. But, not using InDesign (no star shape tool for the sun).
(However, I originally did combine the 2 separate images (car and sun) in my first attempt in InDesign, which produced the same result. When it converted poorly, I then deleted the 2 images from InDesign and placed a single combined image-probably imported the car PNG into Illustrator/Fireworks and drew the sun, then exported the combined and placed. The combined, see above, still converts with the same problematic result. Is it possible that although the initial 2 images were deleted in InDesign and replaced, and a re-export was done of the newly saved file, somehow InDesign is caching these 2 images?)
The InDesign PDF export's image, like in  the ePub, is fine.
    Puzzling result for the conversion.

  • InDesign CS6 Crashes on launch: error in BIB.dll

    Hello,
When I launch a new install of InDesign CS6, it crashes with this error detail from event viewer.:

This is on a Win7 x64 system, 6 core 3.33GHz + 24GB RAM.  Other CS6 apps tested so far are working including Bridge, Premier Pro and Photoshop.
Watching the splash screen, the error comes up shortly after it says "Starting Up Service Registry."
This is installed in parallel with a previous CS3 install.  InDesign CS3 is working fine.
Reading some other threads, I have tried:
1- launch using Run As Administrator option.
    2- reinstall InDesign CS6
    3- deleted C:\Users\<my user>\AppData\Local\Adobe\Indesign\Version 8.0 Folder
4- login as another <admin> user and try it
5- switched default printer per this: http://forums.adobe.com/thread/717953 (my default printer is in the shop, all other printers are virtual but they didn't help).
    6- removed all plug-ins from InDesign\Plug-ins folder
7- tried replacing BIB.dll with that from another CS6 application
While attempting these fixes I have gotten a different error, now faulting in CoolType.dll.  Per some other threads, I have deleted all non-system fonts from the fonts folder and still get an error in the same place, either referencing BIB.dll or CoolType.dll.
Below is the initial crash dump report from windows.
    Thanks for any advice.

Thank you both for your replies.  This was a painful issue to resolve.  I worked with Adobe support over three different calls.  I received different advice at each call but the successful process in the end was to completly uninstall and further delete all traces of adobe software and reinstalling again.  I had CS3 installed and was told that it is incompatible with Windows 7 (though its been running on my desktop and laptop without trouble for years.)
So what I did was to first uninstall pretty much everything starting with Adobe in my Uninstall Programs control panel.
Then, per adobe support, I proceded to delete files/keys from these locations manually.  Not all of them existed.  I also included Program Files (x86) where any Program Files paths are listed.  (Note: AdobeCreativeSuiteCleanerTool does NOT remove all traces of files and keys!)
    C:\Program Files\Adobe*
    C:\Program Files\Common Files\Adobe*
    C:\Program Files\Common Files\Macrovision Shared\FlexNet*
    C:\Program Data\Adobe*
    C:\Program Data\FlexNet*
    C:\Users\All Users\Adobe*
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Adobe*
    HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Adobe*
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Macrovision\FLEXnet Publisher*
I rebooted and installed again and it worked.
During this process I discovered what I believe may have been the actual cause.  Under one of the above paths was another InDesign\Fonts folder loaded with fonts.  Sorry, I do not recall which as I have since had a hard disc failure and had to really start over.  I thought I had done a search of fonts but apparently had not done such a good job.  I recall now having trouble getting my fonts (installed in windows/fonts) to appear in InDesign CS3 and the workaround was to place a copy in this folder.  I the end, I believe I had a copy of a corrupted font in that folder.
My recommendation to anyone else struggling with this problem is to (1) remove all fonts from the windows/fonts folder and (2) to check the above paths for any fonts you may have added and remove them, and (3) check the above paths for any remaining fonts and verify they are not corrupt by opening them to preview.  Remove anything corrupt.  If all else fails, (4) follow uninstall procedure described above.

  • AME 2014 Export Error. Sequences not updating from Premiere.

It seems that queuing sequences from Premiere Pro to AME via Ctrl+M is forever broken as that causes Premiere to hang and crash on the "Export Media" dialog box. This has been broken for several months. I have talked to developers with no resolution to this. Because of this, I now can only export projects by dragging sequences over to AME from Premiere. This has worked fine until a few days ago.
What happens now is that AME gets part way through encoding a video and then hangs and fails encoding. I get the super helpful
    12/19/2014 03:25:14 PM : Encoding Failed
    Export Error
    Error compiling movie.
    Unknown error.
I have created new sequences with the same media, removed 3rd party audio plugins, moved all the footage over to a different drive, tried to encoded to a different format like AVI, and I have tried setting the encode to save on several drives. It always fails at the same point. It seems hang and fail on clips that I created in AE, which are rendered using PhotoJPEG .MOV. I tried rendering the clip where AME fails using a different AVI container, but it ended up failing in the same spot.
The strangest thing is that when I disable the clips in Premiere and dragged tried rendering, it hangs on the same clip as if it wasn't disabled! I have also deleted the clips from the timeline and they still show up in the preview window in AME and it hangs on them and then fails!
    Here are my system specs:
Premiere Pro CC (up to date)
Win 7 64bit (up to date)
    i7 970
    24GB Ram
NVIDIA 470GTX (driver up to date)
    3 x 1.5TB internal
    4TB internal
    3TB internal
    12TB RAID 5 via USB 3.0
    USB 2.0 and 3.0 drives
FireWire audio device (M-AUDIO FireWire1814)... although, I am not using it for playback. It is connected.
Footage is from C100 H.264 .MTS, PhotoJPEG .MOV from AE, JPG Stills, simple titles made in Premiere Pro, color mattes, and .WAV audio clips
All stock video effects and transitions.
    Thanks for your help.

    Adobe Media Encoder (AME)

I tried a re-install of PP and AME, moving all assets to another machine and encoding, enabling and disabling "Import sees natively" in AME, enabling and disabling Mercury in PP and AME, and I got the same result. AME fails encoding with a "error compiling movie" error. Same result when I tried to export from PP.
The only thing that worked was re-rendering all the clips that I created in AE using a different codec (was MOV PhotoJPEG and I re-rendered to Lagarith AVI). This seemed to work. When it would fail in AME it would hang on a frame for several minutes before giving me the sheep sound. The original MOV PhotoJPEG clips from PP played fine in the sequences and in media players. No drama, no glitches.
Not sure why AME wan't updating the sequences from PP. The fix for that was launching AME with Shift held down to clear preferences. Also I made sure I saved in PP before I dragged over to AME for encoding.
Hopefully this will help someone else along their journey. Thanks for looking!

  • Export Error. Error compiling movie. Disk Full.

I have the following error since CS6 when exporting some videos: Export Error. Error compiling movie. Disk Full.
All my drives have plenty of space, NTFS 7200rpm, everything was fine with CS5.5. Same problem with Encoder or Premiere Pro.
Much of the stuff I export is going fine but I have this error with some sequences and formats.
It always crash to this error when exporting sequences with "Match Sequence Settings".
For one of my projects, when exporting to wmv, out of 6 sequences one always crash to Export Error. Error compiling movie. Disk Full.
If I encode those sequences to mpeg2, everything is fine.
I installed the new update this morning but it doesn't help.

Hi, since my last post there has been no activity on this thread, so...
Has anyone found a workaround?  I find it incredibly inconvenient and unforgivable that I get this error when trying to export a movie in PPCS6 using "Match Sequence Settings".  Some facts:
    1. I always get this error when trying to export from PPCS6 using match sequence settings.  It happens with all movies.  Starting a new sequence doesn't change it
    2. I never get this error if I use another encoding option
    3. My disk is not full
    4. It happens whether I use software engine or GPU acceleration (and also if I delete the previews)
    5. It happens on both the PC and MAC versions of PPCS6.  With sequences created natively on each machine and imported one to the other.
    6. If I import the sequence into CS5, then hey presto, it works without error.  At the moment that is my workaround, but it is not at all acceptable that I have to do this.
    7. The sequences were all created in CS6.  None of them were imported from another version
    8. My source video is 1080p AVCHD footage
Any further thoughts on how to deal with this really frustrating and crippling new bug in CS6 would be incredibly welcome.

Thanks Harini,  That solved my Export error, however I am still having issues withthe Weather Magnet Application.  After uploading it and creating a PAR File iView I am getting lots of errors that I can't figure out.  (I haven't quite gotten the hang of reading the error logs yet).

  • When will ID Include Integrated Kindle .mobi Export?

    InDesign Mavens,
Can anyone shed any light regarding why Adobe has yet to include Kindle .mobi generation (export) as an integrated function in InDesign?
The release of InDesign CC further illuminates this problem...KDP's latest Kindle Plugin for Adobe InDesign (PERPETUAL BETA) v0.9.7.3 does not appear to support InDesign CC.
Really...by now...why is it necessary for Adobe to force InDesign users to rely on a third-party, perpetually BETA plugin for so many years in order to gain access to one of the largest (if not the largest) eBook marketplaces?
WHEN WILL ADOBE integrate Kindle .mobi generation into InDesign?
Do you want .mobi export integrated into InDesign? Please indicate your request in the comments below (hopefully someone from Adobe InDesign's Product Management group will get the message).

My apologies for the delayed response. Also, my apologies for the incorrect assumption about InCopy exporting to Word. I should have limited my response to things I have better knowledge of… but in my defense, I had just read this snippet in the InCopy manual and it seemed fairly clear, so I went with it:
    Export InCopy documents
You can save all or part of an InCopy document in a different file format. In most cases, each component (for example, text frames and graphics) in an InCopy document is exported to a separate file. The exception is exporting an InCopy document to Adobe PDF, which copies all of the text and graphics in a document to a single PDF file.
    Do one of the following:
To export text, click in the text with the Type tool  .
To export a graphic, click the graphic with the Position tool  .
    Choose File > Export.
Specify a name and location for the exported content, and then select a format under Save As Type.
The XML format appears in the list only if XML tags have been added to the document. If you are exporting text and don’t see a listing for your word-processing application, you might need to export the text in a format that the application can import, such as Rich Text Format. If your word-processing application doesn’t support any of the InCopy export formats, use the Text Only (ASCII) format.
My assumption was, if InCopy allowed you to export to different file formats, and if it provided a listing of word processor programs, and it gave the option to export to RTF, then Word must be one of the options. Apparently I was wrong. That being said, the point I was making is still valid.
I am questioning the rationale behind Adobes decision to exclude support for the Amazon Kindle reader format. The reason stated here is, “Kindle uses a proprietary format that is not an open standard so why should Adobe spend the resources developing a solution to support it?” In response, I expressed doubt that this is the true reason because Adobe fails to take this position in other applications and I mistakenly provided an invalid example. So allow me to correct this mistake and reiterate that Adobe does not require that a technology or language be an “open standard” in order to incorporate support for the same.
These are examples of Adobe products supporting non-standard technologies (that I have personally verified from with the applications):
Acrobat Pro:      Export to Word and Excel
Certainly these formats are not open standards
    Photoshop:        Save as PXR format
Pixar originally created this proprietary format for use with proprietary Pixar Imaging Computers used in medical imaging applications and, of course, animation. Later it was adopted for use in Pixar’s Renderman and Marionette 3D animation programs. I didn’t research other image formats, but my guess is the majority are proprietary and not open standards.
Fireworks:          Export to Lotus Domino Designer
Really? Is this what Adobe considers an open standard?
Dreamweaver:  Create files of type: ASP + Java Script, ASP + VB Script, ASP.NET C#, ASP.NET VB
Obviously these are proprietary Microsoft technology solutions.
I think this demonstrates Adobe’s position on open standards fairly well, and as to the question of “Why” Adobe should support Kindle: for the same reason Adobe supports all the other, non-standard technologies. Because developers need it and Adobe is in the business of providing tools for developers. With regard to the characterization that Plane Wryter’s workflow is somehow “non-standard” is absolutely ridiculous. Yes, it might be true that the majority of Adobe’s ePub developers have no need for the Kindle tools. However, Plane Wryter and I (and every other independent developer and small ISV) cannot afford to limit our options and exclude potential clients based on (stupid) limitations imposed by our chosen development tools. We must remain flexible in order to survive. Adobe should recognize this and make an attempt to provide for our needs as well as the needs of their big enterprise customers.
Adobes position on this is a perfect example why I always look for tools created by smaller providers who have a vested interest in catering to the needs of the little guy. That’s why I chose tools from companies like Frame Technology Corp (creators of FrameMaker), eHelp/Blue Sky Software (creators of the RoboHelp product line) Aldus (providers of PageMaker, Freehand, and PhotoStyler), and Macromedia (creators of Flash, Shockwave, and Dreamweaver). I originally began to use these titles when they were competitors of Adobe, but they have since been acquired. It’s unfortunate that Adobe doesn’t see the value in continuing to provide small companies and individual developers with flexible tools. What other option does the little guy have except to look for alternatives from companies who still have an incentive to provide the tools we need?
In conclusion, I don’t buy the “not an Open Standard” excuse for excluding support for the Amazon formats. It’s an excuse of convenience and one that is not reflected by other Adobe products. The real reason Adobe isn’t providing development tools for Kindle is most likely tied to their Digital Editions reader application. I can see some Adobe Fat-Cat exec sitting at his desk on the 30th floor, with his feet up and chair leaned back, smoking a Gurkha (a very expensive cigar) of course, saying something like, “what kind of sense (puff) does it make (puff puff) to invest money and resources into (puff) a new ePub reader program, then (puuuufff) turn around and offer development tools (puff pu pu puff) for our competitors products? It doesn’t that’s what! Needles to say, we will NOT offer Kindle development tools (puff)”.
This sounds closer to the truth than that silly line about open standards. I don’t know about the rest of you guys, but I have a thing about being fed a line from a uber-mega-corp that’s acquired the vast majority of it’s product line through shrewd business practices. Do I honestly think they consider my needs as a developer? Naahh, not really. I’m going to follow Plane Wryter’s lead since Adobe leaves no other option.
One last word of caution to Plane Writer, I don’t like the way Steve Werner wished you luck with Vellum… (nothing personal Mr. Werner) but it almost sounded like “Good luck with Vellum, Adobe will be acquiring them real soon… “  Call me paranoid, but history speaks for itself, doesn’t it? If it’s a good product that’s competing with Adobe, then they will want it. (can you feel the walls closing in?)

  • Kindle Plugin for InDesign/Ebook

Hi. I want to publish my ebooks on Amazon, by jusing the latest version of InDesign - CS5.5 on my iMac. BUT I'm having trouble installing Amazons kindle-plugin, which should make you able to export your InDesign file directly into kindle-format. Whenever I try to install it, in the end, a pop-up says "Installation failed"! What have I done wrong?
Please comment if you have any suggestions!
    Kind Regards

I haven’t really read overwhelmingly great things about the kindle plugin.
Try exporting to EPUB and then converting to MOBI using Calibre.
