ID CS6 RGB objects set to overprint = KO in PDF

Hello:
While I wait on the phone for Adobe support (+60 minutes now) I thought I'd post here to see if anyone in the community had any feedback on this topic.
We recently discovered that objects created with an RGB build but set to overprint in InDesign will end up as KO type in an exported PDF file. I'm trying to find out if this is the expected behavior or if this is some type of bug in CS6. This even ocurs when all colors must be converted to CMYK or spot color, such as when exporting to X1a.
From a technical standpont, RGB objects set to overprint are tagged with 'OPM 0' and CMYK objects are tagged as 'OPM 1'
From our Enfocus resources:
There are two “overprint modes”:
Standard overprint mode, also known as “OPM 0”
Illustrator overprint mode, also known as “OPM 1” or “nonzero overprint mode”
The difference between both modes lies in the effect of the tint value 0 for one of the CMYK inks:
In standard overprint mode (OPM 0), the tint value 0 of one of the CMYK inks in the foreground object has a knockout effect on the color rendering of the underlying object. In other words, a foreground ink with a C, M, Y or K value of 0 % erases the corresponding background ink. Here, the “foreground inks win” principle applies.
In Illustrator overprint mode (OPM 1), the tint value 0 is neutral: it is ignored (as if it were “not specified”) and has therefore no effect on the color rendering of the underlying object.

I'm trying to find out if this is the expected behavior or if this is some type of bug in CS6.
Seems like expected behaviour to me. What happens on an overprint depends on the CMYK values of the over and underlying object. So the results of 0|65|0|0 and 0|65|0|1 are very different
An RGB version of the pink would have unknown CMYK output values because any CMYK profile could be used in the CMYK conversion for print.

  • Object set to overprint in InDesign CS5.5, but in fact knocks out

    Hi
I created a document in InDesign CS5.5 that had a background image and, on top of that, a small circle to act as a cutter guide so that the printer knew where to drill a hole for binding. I set the circle to 'overprint' in the attributes pane, and then exported the layout under the PDF/X-1a:2001 setting in Acrobat. Later, the printer said that the circle was in fact knocking out from the background image, even though separations printed from my laser showed the circle on its own separation and no hole knocked out of the image. Any idea what I've done wrong?
Many thanks if anyone can put me right - Andi

Hi Rob, Thanks for your reply.
Yep the cutter is set up as two different colour Pantone + CMYK spots in Illustrator- (I did CMYK+CMYK coated because you can't seem to change the name of the Pantone Coated colours).
I have looked at the Object inspector above ( I was relying on turning on and off the pantone colours to see if the overprint was working - when I turned them off the photo below was knocked out).
However, the object inspector says Overprint = True.
Thanks for your help with this

  • Gray object is set to overprint

When I try to run the preflight on a PDF/X-4: 2008 I get a warning/error message that a "Gray object (black below 96%) is set to overprint (l match on 1 page).  This has been a recurring error even though the paragraph style (picture caption) and font in question were set for 100% Black (CMYK). I thought it was a glitch with the font, so I changed that font to a new one, different size (but maintaining the same physical size on the page so I wouldn't have to readjust every page.) I assumed (hoped) that when the original font was no longer embedded in the file, the error would disappear. NOPE! It just changed the font that the error is related to, abandoning the caption font and identifying a font in a size that is not on the page as the culprit. The main text on the page is Georgia, size 11. There is no size 10 anywhere on the page. I have checked the text letter by letter and find no Georgia, size 10. Nor can I find any letters in the text that are less than 100% black. It appears that the error is determined to remain even though it points to absolutely nothing in the file. Can I assume that this will not cause the printer to reject the file when it is submitted for online, digital printing?

I want to let you know that I finally found the offending character in the InDesign file. You will recall how, after I decided to replace the caption fonts with a different font because somewhere hidden in the captions must have been a character of less than 100% black, that suddenly, another offender showed up in the main text font--one that had not been identified before. Today, the preflight Snap window showed me the location--something it consistently refused to do with the caption font. It was a blank space after a period which had font attributes assigned. No doubt the fault of a gremlin since nowhere in the body text had there ever been any text sized at 10 points or at less than fully black. I deleted it and HOORAY! all preflight features are announcing "No problems." Again, thanks for the great help at this forum. You are indispensible!!

  • Problem exporting to PDF from ID CS6. Objects are missing in PDF.

    Hello!
I created a large format poster (24x36 inches) in ID CS6 to be printed. My printer requires PDF files to print from. My problem is that when I export my ID file to PDF, objects are missing. For example, in this file, the company logo in the upper left corner of the poster is incomplete (missing the orange color fill with white text in orange circle.) This object was originally created in AI CS6 then imported to the ID document.
I am pulling my hair out trying to fix this and have not been able to find like issues online. Any help would be GREATLY appreciated. Thank you!!!!

The missing object is visible with Overprint Preview turned on.

  • Hi, I am using Indesign CS6, How to set the page size in Inches.

Hi, I am using Indesign CS6, How to set the page size in Inches.

All fields in InDesign can be entered in any measurement system. So, if you want to make an 8"x10" document and go to File>New Document and the window looks like this:
…you can type either 8 in or 8" into the Width field like this:
…and when you move to the next field, it will convert the eight inches into the equivalent number in the unit of measure that it is using at the moment, like this:
… (203.2 milimeters is the same as 8 inches). You can also enter a different measurement unit into other fields once the file is created, such as the width or height of a frame, or the position of an object in the X and Y coordinates.
If you would rather just work in inches instead of having to type the inches mark or abbreviation, go to InDesign>Preferences>General and select the Units & Increments tab. There you will see Ruler Units for Horizontal and Vertical at the top of the window. Set them to Inches and all of the fields will display in inches. If you do that to an open document, you will change the unit of measure for that document. If you do it while no documents are open, it will change the unit of measure for any new documents you create. To change the unit of measure for existing documents, you will have to open each and make the change.

  • Error while saving for Objective setting

    Hi,
While saving the Objective setting templates i am getting the error as "Table HRPAD605 is not part of the Customizing object PDST T "
    <u>Error documentation is as follows</u>
    <b>Diagnosis</b>
Entries in table HRPAD605 cannot be edited in connection with customizing object PDST      T as table HRPAD605 does not belong to customizing object PDST      T, according to the object definition.
    <b>System Response</b>
    The function terminates.
    <b>Procedure</b>
Check whether the entered objects and keys are correct. Then check in the Implementation Guide whether the object was created correctly.
Correct the object definition or the entry for the Transport Organizer interface.
    Thanks

    Hello,
Most likely the is an inconsistency with the transport objects PDST and PDWS. Please run RHSOBJCH to correct this inconsistency.
Afterwards you should be able to transport the templates via the catalog or via RHMOVE30. Please make sure that the category ID in the target system is the same otherwise you won't be able to locate the template.
The report RHSOBJCH corrects the missing HR entries in the OBJS table.
This step you need to perform only once. For OSA you need to overtake
    *5020 up to *5026, also PAD605,606 and 607 references.
When you have done this (as said, only need to do it once) you can transport the categories and templates via the phap_catalog_pa transaction (righ-mouse click on the to be transported object).
    Hope this helps,
    Regards and Groetjes,
    Maurice

  • Update Objective Setting & Appraisals(Received) tab in PA20

    Hi all,
I am currently working on OSA appraisal. I managed to create appraisal. How can i update the Objective Setting & Appraisals(Received) and  Objective Setting & Appraisals(Created) tab in PA20, infotype 25 ?
    Appreciate your all help.
    Thank you.

    Hi Binu,
I am not entirely clear about your requirement, but in OOHAP_VALUE_TYPE, for a specific proficiency value, if you have maintained a description for the value under 'Value description' then it will be displayed on the form within the 'Info' button.

  • Objective Setting and Appraisals: No BSP-Template found!

I am implementing MSS and am getting an error under tab Employee Review for Objective Setting and Appraisals.  The error is:
An error occurred: java.lang.Exception: Error in CFViewgroup.createListModel: No BSP-Template found!
Any clues as to how to fix this?

Now its been a while since ive seen that error .... id check the following:
    1. User Parameters in the backend HR system
    2. User Permissions in the backend HR system (although I dont think its related)
    3. In Security Zones - ensure that the com.sap.portal.ep50 node has sufficient privs for your user.
BTW which versions of EP and HR are you using - that may have some bearing - ive only ever seen it on ECC5 and EP6.0 ...

  • Transport an Appraisal and Objective Setting Template

Note the following advice pertaining to transporting an appraisals and objective setting template (I have not found documentation about this anywhere else, so hopefully some of you find this useful):
    Scenario:
You have maintained your templates in PHAP_CATALOG_PA in the main config client, and you have transported all other configurations (basic settings, etc.) to your unit test/integration test environment.
However, although you have right-clicked the category groups and templates to be transported and included them in a transport request, you find that only some of your configuration (or perhaps none at all!) is arriving in the target client when the transport is performed.
You may initially be able to work around this by downloading/uploading your config, but once your templates contain more complex configuration (such as using dynamic element references, etc.) you will find that this is no longer a feasible approach.
    Cause & Resolution:
The problem is caused by outdated information in the workflow definition environment (transaction SWU3), and specifically the section labeled "Check Entries from HR Control Tables".
Run transaction SWU3, expand tree node "Maintain Definition Environment" (which should be marked with a red cross at this stage) and click on "Check Entries from HR Control Tables". The information presented in the right-hand pane indicates that:
If there are errors regarding the transport objects PDST or PDWS, the relevant entries are not maintained in table SOBJ. You can use the report RHSOBJCH to rectify this later.
Proceed as suggested and run report RHSOBJCH (through SE38 or SA38) in the config client (i.e. where the templates are to be transported from). This has no side-effects I am aware of other than updating the reference information required.
If you now run SWU3 again you should find that the "Check Entries from HR Control Tables" node is marked with a green tick.
Simply go back to the catalog, include your cat.groups & templates in a transport again, and Voila! Our work here is done.
    Happy transporting...
Side-note: You may ask (as I did) what transporting of appraisal templates has to do with workflow, but it just so happens that the PD objects and infotypes associated with appraisals (VA, VB, VC, etc.) are transported through the same mechanism as workflow templates (which are also PD objects). if you peek inside the transport you will note that everything to do with the template and category group configuration is bundled inside PDWS and PDST transport objects...

    Hi Abe,
what is the appraisal process you are talking about?  The new stuff in ep4 where you define the process and steps which create the roadmap at the top of the document?  if so SAP does not have a great straightforward solution, but they did provide us some options.
you can check out this thread and if you want I can send you the full document that is referred to in the post.

  • Is it possible to configure Team calibration for Objective Setting Appraisals in EHP7

    Hi Friends,
We are on EHP7. We have implemented objective setting appraisal for our client.
We have created an appraisal template under category group "Personnel appraisals". We have configured the VA, VB, VC, Column ids.  Status tab flow is used from In preparation - Completed.
The enhancements are used to accommodate customer specific calculations for the scores based on the final ratings.
An additional requirement from the client is; once the appraisal process is over for a team; the team manager should be able to see the scores of his direct reportees in the MSS.
    1) He should be given a provision to modify the final rating score; incase if he finds that one of the team members deserve a better score in line with the comparison of other team members. He should be able to call the template and be able to revise the final ratings from his MSS directly.
    2) When he modifies the final ratings by calling the appraisal template on the MSS; that new score should be stored in the appraisal template (database tables); that is; this should overwrite the final scores which was initially calculated during the final appraisal discussion between the apprasier and appraisee. This new values should be taken for all reporting or new compensation revision process.
Should this requirement be addressed by Assessment of Employees and Calibration Process for Employee Assessments standard configurations?
If that is the option; I have already done these settings for flexible performance appraisal.
But in the MSS > under Talent Management > Assessment
We are getting a blank screen in the "In process & Completed " tabs. No employee is listed.
The calibration grid is empty. But under under talent profile; we are able to see the names of the team members.
Is there any other method available for this purpose ?
Request your comments on options to deliver this functionality.
    Thanks.
    ER.

    Hi Srujan,
For every paying company code you can have multiple sending company codes.
You can make this configuration in FBZP > Paying company codes tab.
Once in 'Paying company codes', here click on 'Company codes' button on top right.
This means you will need all the FBZP setup for your paying company code only.
Also, please refer to below link to configure cross company settings

    Hi,
Is there any way to change the delivered width of a column in Objective Setting and Appraisals?

The only possibility would be with a custom BSP. Easiest way would be copying the standard and make your adaption in the copy.
