1.5 - Versioning Support for ADE

Hi,
Our team has been using CVS for version control but now we are moving to ADE. Is there any extension that provides integrated support for ADE from within SQL Developer? How do i get it?
If not, are there any plans to do so? I did not find a feature request for this. Can I log one?
Please let me know.

P.S. - I know that JDeveloper supports ADE so I think it would be easy to extend the same to work with SQL Developer.

Cover icon size for ADE export from Indesign CC

Good day
When exporting from Adobe Indesign cc, what is the size and format for the cover icon image in order for the it to display correctly in ADE? I have created an ePub3 document in Indesign and no matter what size I make the cover image the icon displays incorrectly.
Any help please?

Computer won't stay authorized for ADE

I can't track down this problem. Previous threads have indicated that this is related to trouble writing to the registry, possibly from an antivirus program, registry cleaner or "permissions issue".
After using a selective startup to disable all non-essential services and disabling my AVG antivirus and ZoneAlarm firewall and uninstalling all registry cleaners and similar utilities, I am still baffled. I am unclear as to what is meant by "permissions issue." Every other program seems to be able to write to the registry.
Linked to this is the mysterious "Adobe Error -474 that pops up when I am trying to use my Sony Reader Library software. Of course I don't use the Sony Library now because too many attempts will cause the "too many activations" problem which it took Adobe Support a week to reset.
I am considering an uninstall of ADE and manual purge of all registry references to ADE followed by a reinstall of ADE to see if that will help, but I don't have enough information about what ADE normally puts in the registry.
Adobe software is normally extremely reliable over many systems and configurations but this is a sad exception.
I would appreciate any advice.

Well it appears I am not the only one having this problem. Every time I download a library book or a purchased book it asked me to authorize my system either through the Adobe ID or my Sony Reader ID. So, the last time I went to get a library book it came up with too many acitivations on both accounts. I emailed sony and they sent a letter with a phone number to call in. I called on Thursday, explained what happened, was on the phone with them for over an hour and they said all would be working fine. I said great because I had bought a netbook and was going to install everything on that instead of the laptop I take back and forth to work. Well I installed on the netbook and guess what, my account is still showing too many activations. So much for having the problem fixed. Now, yes we can create a new account but then my understanding is we lose everything we have in our current library. I really dont want to lose the books I have purchased. Or am I wrong in this?
Any help would be appreciated. I am leaving in another week for a 2 week holiday and need to take my reader along with me as more than a paperweight!!!

Administrative install for ADE

Hi, are you able to give us a likely date for a version of ADE that can be centrally installed? This lack is now causing considerable confusion within our University system as we are having to support version Reader 7.0.9 in Open Access areas and Reader 8 plus DE on staff computers.

This is definitely possible with After Effects CS5 and later, but I don't believe that it's possible with After Effects CS3.

When I went to update my kobo with books from both the Overdrive and 3M library when I was told by the system that I did allow me make changes. the message my kobo gives me is Adobe Digital Rights Management (DRM) is not currently authourized for use with your Adobe ID.

What's the procedure for backing up e-books in ADE?

Well, I have checked the FAQ section about Adobe Digital Editions (ADE) and found no answer to this question. Also, there is no documentation available for ADE. (You need to add this in Adobe.) Thankfully there is this forum available.
I am using Windows Vista Home Premium at the moment. Now, say I want to upgrade to Windows 7. And I want to do a custom, or "clean" install which results in formatting the entire system disk drive. I have 10 purchased books and 5 borrowed books in my library in ADE. How do I save these? If I just copy them over to an external disk drive, can I just copy them back to the system disk after installing Windows 7 and continue to read them? Or will I get an error saying that I don't have the rights, or that they are registered to different user?...

I already have an Adobe ID and I have typed it in the first time I installed ADE, so I guess my computer is considered "authorized" now. What does this mean anyway? Is there some special license file that is downloaded to my computer or what?... In that case I assume I would need to backup this file for later use when restoring e-books and installing ADE. Or is this false?

Well, first of all, I am using Firefox 3.6.28 on Vista 64-bit SP2. The ADE version is 1.7.2.1131.
In ADE, when I click the Library menu and then Authorize Computer, I get a message saying "this computer has been authorized to" followed by my e-mail.
So ADE was already activated and authorized on the current computer.
But I decided to install it again.
1. I uninstalled ADE.
2. Reboot!
3. www.adobe.com
4. Logged on with Adobe ID.
5. Installed ADE from "http://www.adobe.com/products/digitaleditions/#fp".
6. ADE was downlaoded and installed with all the components.
ADE started automatically after install. All the previously downloaded books were present in the ADE library.
Now, the source I used for the e-books was E-lib. It's one of major distributors of e-books in Sweden, and the major one used for borrowing e-books in Swedish libraries.

After authentication and chosing the book, the download link looks like this:

It's followed by a 104 character long string.
I decided to borrow a new book. The borrow link looks like this:

After clicking on the download link Firefox asks what I want to do with the file.

I chose to open with Adobe Digital Editions from the list of programs.
The file was downloaded, ADE started, it downloaded the book and placed it in its library.
But if I right click the URLLink.ascm item from the list in the Downlods (Ctrl+J) window in Firefox, and then pick "Open Containing Folder", it takes me to following directory:
C:\Users\Sameer\AppData\Local\Temp
So from this I can conclude that...
1. The ASCM file type is properly associated with Adobe Digital Editions on the computer. Although for some reason this file type has no icon of its own, like one of those files that don't have a program association.
2. The file is apparently just downloaded to the Temp folder if I chose to open it right from the browser window, and it is not deleted by Adobe Digital Editions afterwards.
After viewing the Temp folder and then clicking the ADE program button on the task bar to view the book again ADE crashed for some reason. It was alright just seconds ago, and it showed me the front page of the book right after downloading it.
So that's that...
Perhaps ADE was trying to delete the above mentioned file but failed to do so because I was viewing it in Windows Explorer? Although I was only viewing its folder, the Temp folder. I was not actually opening the file. So I wouldn't expect it to be related to "file already in use by other program" kind of thing (conflict).
Whatever...
I did repeat the steps again and borrowed and downloaded a second e-book in the same file format (PDF) from the same source. However, this time it all worked perfectly. ADE did not crash this time. Although it didn't delete the ASCM file this time either.
So there you have it...
I don't think I can test this any more thoroughly. But I will check to see what happens if I download from a different source. I will try buying an e-book from some e-book store. I might give you feedback on that too.
So the simple solution here appears to be to simply chose to open the file in your browser when it asks you what you want to do with it. Or you may as well save it like I do, to your desktop for example. This gives you an easier way of deleting the file manually after you have downloaded the book in ADE (by double clicking on it). It's easier than going to the AppData\Local\Temp folder.
At some later point I might do a binary comparison of the ADE installer downloaded without logging in to Adobe website with Adobe ID, and the one downloaded without logging in. I will use a comparison tool, not just look at the file sizes. I would not expect it to be any different.
The key here appears to be the activation of ADE and authentication of the device. And you can do this the first time you install it on the computer. ADE will ask you the first time you start it if you would like to authenticate your computer or not. And if you chose to do so you will have to give it your Adobe ID and password. In other words, you will not have to go to the Adobe website and log in, and then download and install ADE to get your device authenticated. You can do that right in the ADE program.
If you have not done the authentication the first time you installed ADE, you can simply click the "Library" menu in the top left corner next to the view modes buttons, and then click "Authenticate Comptuer" and follow the on-screen instructions.
I will get back to you after purchasing some e-book from a different source or store.

IS ADE 2.0 for Mac still available?

I can't find an ADE download to work with my OS 10.6.8. All thread links default to 4.0 or 3.0, but either turns up an error message that says they won't work with anything less than OS 10.7. And I can't seem to find a download for ADE v2.0 anywhere. Help!

ADE 1.7.2 not compatible with Safari 5.0.3 on Leopard (10.5.8)?

I cannot download a URLLink.acsm file with Safari 5.0.3, even after creating a com.apple.DownloadAssessment.plist file and adding "acsm" under "LSRiskCategoryExtensions" as suggested in the release notes for ADE 1.7.2 (Dated February 2010)

I have to locate the file in "Download" folder download with FireFox while online and double-click it to open it with ADE 1.7.2.
In contrast, FireFox 3.6.13 installed on the same Mac (MacBook early 2009, MacOS 10.5.8) can download the a URLLink.acsm file without any trouble and prompts me to open it with ADE.
The system requirements for ADE 1.7.2 states that it supports the following browsers and Adobe Flash Versions on Mac:
Apple Safari 4, Mozilla Firefox 3
Adobe Flash® Player 9 or 10
Does my trouble mean that ADE 1.7.2 released February 2010 is not compatible with Safari 5 released in June 2010?

Can't get library ebooks to load to ADE on Mac

My wife has a Nook and I downloaded ADE to our Mac so she can download library books. Originally I thought it didn't matter what Adobe ID was used to set up ADE on the Mac. I found out it does with the Nook. The library book downloaded to ADE but it would not transfer to the Nook. So I deleted ADE and had my wife set up an Adobe ID. Then reinstalled ADE and Authorized using my wife's Adobe ID. Then we tried downloading the library book again but ADE would not accept the book. Fast forward to today when we tried again.
1. When ADE comes up on the Mac the following dialog box appears with this message—One or more downloads are not finished. Do you want to resume pending tasks? Cancel or OK
2. When clicking OK another dialog box comes up with this message—Error getting license. License server communication problem. E_LIC_ALREADY_FULFILLED_BY_ANOTHER_USER.
3. When I click OK the dialog box disappears.
I have tried dragging the book from the download folder to ADE and it bounces back every time. So there is some incompatibility going on some where. Are there any ideas what I should do?

PS. I clicked on cancel in the first dialog box and it doesn't show again but the book still will not drag and drop into ADE.

I dug around the Adobe website and found some release notes for ADE 1.7.2. In the notes it stated that Safari needed to be able to recognize the .acsm file. The automatic recognition had been removed in Safari, and the notes gave a link to a blog. In the blog discussion it had a sample file to add to the User/Library/Preferences. I downloaded that file, opened it, and added the .ascm to the list. I went back and downloaded yet another copy of the library ebook. With ADE open on the iMac I just clicked once on on the book in the download folder and it zapped into the ADE app. So I immediately got my wife's Nook and successfully transfered the file. So once I wiped more blood from my eyes from having beaten my head on that brick wall, I double click on a file of the book on my desktop. It too went into ADE. (I deleted that copy.) So apparently just clicking or double clicking the file after downloading will put it into ADE. Someone pass the bandaid box please.

How do I transfer books from ade on one computer to ade on another computer?

I have searched the Adobe help for ADE and other than a statement that books can be transferred, have been unable to find the procedure for doing this. Please help.
