  • Files not imported because they could not be read.  L5.3 on Mac from SD card in reader RAW photos

Files not imported because they could not be read.  L5.3 on Mac from SD card in reader RAW photos and video visible when card inserted but not able to import.  Any ideas on how to resolve this issue?

This message means that you don't have permission to write to the destination folder or disk drive. This is an operating system issue that can be resolved by changing permissions. And you can get plenty of information on how to do that by doing a web search for "change disk permissions".

  • Imported .mov files not showing up in IMovie

I downloaded 6-7 .mov files yesterday.   All fairly short 5-10 second clips.  The first 3 imported just fine and showed up in IMovie where I am editing a movie.
Afterwards, when I selected "import" the computer responded the same way, as if it was importing, creating thumbnails, etc and the video shows up in finder in the right place but it does not show up in IMovie and I cannot use it in my movie.
I selected "show all clip" and still they do not show up
I tried importing to iPhoto first and then to iMovie but it still does not show up.   It does the same thing - acts like it is importing, creating thumbnails etc.
THe first three that I did are still there, just fine.

Thanks for responding. These videos were shot on a colleague's camera then loaded to an FTP server for me to download. I have them as MP4s (though I've tried to import them after converting to .mov and .avi, still to no avail).
I've loaded them into iPhoto, but still nothing shows up in iMovie when I click the "iPhoto Videos" tab. It's like iMovie can't see them, even though I can see and play them when I go back to iPhoto.
One other point of interest: I tried the same process in my older version of iMovie HD, and there they would load only as audio.
    I'm flummoxed.

  • MOV files not recognized for import

I must have had an old or defective QuickTime player on my editing system when I loaded Adobe CS4. I do not have a QuickTime option for import. I updated the QuickTime Player and it is now working properly. How do I get Adobe Premiere Pro CS4 to now recognize my MotionLoops MOV files? Hopefully without reloading CS4!

Bill, that's strange indeed. Can you successfully play the MotionLoops files directly in the QuickTime player?
    Cheers

  • Importing a movie file--not from a camera

I have an MPEG movie file with an mpg extension that I need to import into iMovie 09. When I browse to the folder where this movie is located, it is grayed out and can't be imported. It is standard mpeg 2 file for DVD.
Is this file format no supported in iMovie for importing?

iMovie does not support MPEG2 format. You will first have to convert the video to another format supported (MPEG4 or DV for example) to be able to import it. You might try MPEG Streamclip.

  • .MOV files not playing in Quicktime or importing into iTunes

I have .MOV files that were taken on my iPhone, imported into iTunes and then put in a folder outside of iTunes. Now they will not play in Quicktime. iTunes will not import them. Help!!!

How can I tell that. I have several. I am also unable to view them in the finder window like I can other .m4v or .mov files.

  • Final Cut Server: Files not importing...

    Hello,
We have the strangest thing happening in Final Cut Server.
    Here's the process:
    1. We work on the project and link to videos already on FCServer
    2. We sometimes import/link local files from the local system into the project
    3. When we "check-in" the project, we obviously expect those local files to import into FCServer. If the files are on the desktop or any one of our ethernet servers, they run great. We would like to put the files on a local Fiber drive, but when we do - It doesn't import and when FCServer gets the entire project checked-in, it shows the media as missing. The fiber drive is not local to FCServer on purpose, so it'll ingest the media.
    Any ideas?

After running tons of tests, still only happening for one person. We haven't been able to replicate it for more than that one person. I ran even more tests today and not seeing the issue. Must be something that person is doing incorrectly. The same person went through 2 computers with two totally different installs and had the same issue, however - Every other system/person I try this with it works without issue. I'm gonna close this discussion as I can't replicate it.

  • Exporting .Mov files at 24fps for Final Cut Pro 5

I work at an animation production house and we're trying to export .mov files from QT 7.1.2 at 24fps so they won't have to be rendered in a FCP project which is a 720p project with a frame size of 1280x720, we're experimenting with two codecs. We're using Motion Jpeg A and Photo Jpeg, selecting 24fps but for some reason they import into FCP 5 at 10fps. It's as though QT isn't outputting accurate 24fps .mov files. When I export .mov files from FCP they import back into FCP without having to be rendered. What's the difference between the ones exported from QT vs. the .mov files exported from FCP. We're using the exact same settings and files....? The reason we need to use QT to do this is because it needs to be a somewhat automated process (lots of stills to work with) and our PA's are working on Windows with QT only.

You should post your inquiry at Final Cut Pro section for better support. Anyway, Final Cut Pro does not always recognize the frame rate correctly, depending on which application (and possibly which codec) you used to compress video. For example, Snapz Pro X and Adobe After Effects don't get along with Final Cut Pro in this respect. Furthermore, compressing video in H.264 will be a bad idea. So simply adjust the size of Canvas so that it won't cover the whole screen. In this way, you can even replay video on Canvas and even send it for final production.

  • FCPX Import movie file only importing audio?

FINAL CUT PRO X IMPORT ISSUE
When importing old dv converted movies (.mov format) from my FCP 6 Capture folders, I only get audio---there is no video file to edit.
The actual file in finder can play it just fine through QT.
I've tried transcoding, copying, leaving in place----nothing working.
Interestingly if I select the audio event in FCPX and select reveal in finder, it finds the copied file in FCPX folder structure and I can then play it Fine thru QT with video.
    Ideas?

    >old dv converted movies (.mov format)
the .mov file extension is not a format.  It merely indicates a QuickTime container.  The actual audio and video streams within that container could have been made from any number of codecs, some of which do not work natively in FCP.
Chances are the .mov file you're referring to was made using a non-native codec and would need to be converted prior to importing.  But since you didn't mention the codec used, I can only guess about this.

  • Converting .MOD movie file for import into FCP

I have a DVD with .MOD movie files I am editing for a church. The files open in a PC with Windows Media Player, although I can not import them into After Effects in a PC, and they do not open in QuickTime Player.
I would like to edit these clips using Final Cut Studio in my macbook pro. Is there any way to convert these files to .mov???
    Thanks for any input/suggestions.

    .MOD files or VOB files?

  • .mov Files not working in Mac but working on Windows

I use a Kodak 10MP digital camera to click. I use it to shoot some videos too.
I had some videos taken earlier on the camera and used to view them on windows. Just bought a Macbook a few days ago, and all those videos worked fine (transfered using an external drive). But there is something I m so confused with now.
All the videos I shoot now, iPhoto does not import (hangs). I copied the video to windows where I could see all easily, and copied it to a pen drive. But sadly even trying to open them on pen drive doesn't work. It says its not a .mov file (dimension: -- --) whereas earlier videos be it 640x480 or HD worked fine. Do note videos are working on Windows. I have Quicktime 10.0 and player 7 installed.
    Please help.

    Won't you mid it AMAZING
Windows Quicktime and VLC are playing the files easily. Mac OS X is not. aren't mov files exclusive to Apple?
There are no picture settings on the camera (heck the camera is so bad you can't do anything even on trying). How is this possible that old videos worked and new aren't. I can't even sleep until I understand.
Already feeling going the Mac way wasn't the right choice. Should have stuck with Windows.

  • Some .mov files not being loaded

    Hi,
I've got 4 movies in iPhoto, all with the .mov file format, and only one of them will load into iMovie. I've seen a lot of similar topics, but none mentioning movs that won't load.
The only pattern I can find is that the 3 that won't load have a "hint" codec (all 4 have AAC and h.264) so I'm guessing this is a bug with that codec.
All run fine in QuickTime, and they were all exported from QuickTime Pro for Windows.
Anything I can do to get them imported? If I need to do any edits in QuickTime Pro it'll have to be on the Windows version since that's the one I've bought (I'm a student - don't tell me to spend even more money!)

If you are referring to a file with an RTSP "hint" track, then you may be correct. Since I don't make files for use on a streaming server, I've not run into this problem but do know that iMovie '08 does not like "extraneous" tracks when it comes to editing and will likely ignore files containing them. Have you tried simply deleting the track using QT Pro? If you don't have QT Pro installed on your MacBook, try using the MPEG Streamclip (free) "Save As..." File menu option to place the H.264/AAC content in an MP4 file container. In the case of extraneous "Tween" tracks, this work flow strips the extra track from the file. Not sure if it will do the same for a hinted track but it may worth a try since no re-conversion is actually required and MPEG Streamclip is worth at least twice its price which seems to meet your "student" budget..

  • .mov will not import

File, Import movies only allows some .mov file to be imported. I, of course, have some that will not import (they are grayed out).
How can I get them to a format that will be read by iMovie? If I buy the pro Quicktime, will it let me open them, save as to a more modern .mov file that imovie will read?
These .mov files are old, I am not sure how old.
Isn't .mov an apple format? I am surprised iMovies doesn't handle them better.
    Thanks
    bob

Sorry to but in on a problem solving situation, but my daughter is having the exact same problem. She was given six videos that were taken with a digital camera, I converted them to .mov files with my version of Quicktime and imovie still will not recognize them. I opened movie inspector and it states that its format is MPEG1 Muxed 480 x 240 pixels
    fps 25
    playing fps (Available while playing)
    data size 3,74 MB
    date rate 2901.60 kbits/s
The movies are grayed out when trying to import them
I'd appreciate your help as my daughter needs to get the movie project finish for school within a few days. Thanks.

  • .mov file not accepted by FCP

I'm trying to import a quicktime movie file into FCP, but I keep getting an error message:
File Error: 1 file(s) recognized, 0 access denied, 1 unknown.
Why don't they write these error codes so you actually know what the heck is going on?

Could be a couple of things, actually. Don't fall into the conversion trap that most editors do. If you have to convert something back and forth just to edit it, you're wasting all of your time.
First: make sure it's not some sort of permissions issue. Get info on the file, unlock it, and make sure read/write for ALL users is enabled, then don't lock it back. Try again.
Then, check the codec and all other info on the clip. Post that info. Check your Libraries/Quicktime against the info on your clip. Chances are, if you don't have FCP 6+ you don't have a lot of the HDV codecs installed. The "Apple HDV Component.component" fixes a LOT of this sort of thing.
Also- when you preview the clip in the Finder, do you get a picture? does it play? If not, you're going to need new codecs.
FCP is a PRO APP. It should be able to recognize and cut any piece of video out there. The trick is it's a plug-in architecture based on Quicktime. Quicktime is also a Plug-in architecture. If all the libraries to handle the video are in place, it doesn't matter which FCP you have, it just so happens that 6+ is the release written after a lot of the HDV codecs went live in cameras.
Hope this helps! I know not a lot of this information is public!!
