ID PDF into Quark, won't print

I know I know, I need to switch to InDesign and send Quark packing but right now that's not possible.
I have clients who send me ID PDF's and I have to import them in our layout in Quark 6.5. (I'm using an Intel Mac OS 10.4.11)
It'll let me import the ID PDF's but won't let me print them from Quark to my Konica Minolta bizhub 203 printer.
I can print any other PDF just not ID from Quark. I can also print the ID PDF from Acrobat, just not Quark *I need to be able to print them from Quark to proof* I can change the PDF to a tiff in Acrobat and it'll print then from Quark but I don't like changing a PDF that a client sends me.
I have ID2 but since PDF was created in ID3 I can't open it to try to save a different way.
My question is this: Is there a way to save an ID PDF so that it'll be compatible in Quark?
Actually I know there is a way, I'm just not sure what. I do have a client who uses ID and I can print his ID PDF's out. I can't get a hold of him though and like always, I'm on a deadline.
I hope this all makes sense.

not sure what you mean by "what type of PDF". It's a PDF that a client has made in InDesign that I am importing into Quark.
I tried saving as a PDF/X1-A from Acrobat and there isn't an option for that.
The Illustrator EPS works fine so unless someone can tell me what my clients should save differently in InDesign I'll be using Illus. EPS....

  • InDesign pdf into Quark

When I import a pdf file made with InDesign into Quark some of the type disappears when printing. I can see it on the screen but it does not appear on the printed page. It will be in the middle of a paragraph just one line. Not a whole sentence or paragraph but one line at various points on the page.

I'm sorry Bob. you're right from here to China. Please forgiveme.
i only wanted to help solving a specific problem with a specific solution, because is very frustrating when something is not working.
there is a latin-american point of view of what assistance, or support are, that prays "we have to do it with the tools we have" (in spanish "lo atamos con alambre" = "tie it with wire" (?) approx) reasons are short budgets, or too much beaurocracy, that makes the optimal solution never cames o cames toooooo late, and needs of quick responses, sometimes the "wire" is the only solution. Unfortunately, after years of dealing with problems, this kind of thinking starts to take your entire brain.

  • Print to PDF (Firefox addon) won't print Combo Box Dropdown lists

Hi. I have this webpage that a user can type information into, there are also drop down lists where they can choose a value. My problem is that when "Print to PDF" converts the page the typed info shows but none of the changed values in the drop down lists appear in the boxes just the default value for instants under "Postage" the user can drop the list down and pick a value of £5.50 but the PDF just shows "Postage" . If I do a "Print preview" all the changed values are shown correctly. Any Ideas? Cheers Terry

    Hello,
'''Try Firefox Safe Mode''' to see if the problem goes away. Safe Mode is a troubleshooting mode, which disables most add-ons.
''(If you're not using it, switch to the Default theme.)''
    * You can open Firefox 4.0+ in Safe Mode by holding the '''Shift''' key when you open the Firefox desktop or Start menu shortcut.
    * Or open the Help menu and click on the '''Restart with Add-ons Disabled...''' menu item while Firefox is running.
''Once you get the pop-up, just select "'Start in Safe Mode"''
'''''If the issue is not present in Firefox Safe Mode''''', your problem is probably caused by an extension, and you need to figure out which one. Please follow the [[Troubleshooting extensions and themes]] article for that.

  • PDFs from Appleworks won't print - OS X 10.4.9

I use Appleworks 6 and regularly create print files as PDFs from the print dialog box. Until I updated to 10.4.9, these PDF files printed without exception. Now, however, none of the files newly created by this application will print. (Other such PDFs, say created from Safari or Mail messages, do print.) My printer is an Apple LaserWriter 16/600 with 32 MB memory.
The green "busy" light on the LW flashes; when I check the print status, it says it is "processing job", with the word "Printing" shown next to the file name. Yet nothing is happening at the printer (except the flashing green light). No matter how long I let this job "process", nothing ever prints.
To free up the printer, I must delete the file from the job list, turn the printer off for a minute or so, turn it back on, then I can print files directly from Appleworks, other PDFs, etc.
Files created under 10.4.8 from Appleworks (to PDF) printed just fine, as one would expect. Anyone having the same problem?

  • FF4 loads pdf ok but won't print them (print preview is blank) I have reverted to FF3.6.13 for now. Reinstall FF4 and try again?

I have only just discovered this problem in FF4, but it used to work ok with version 3 and earlier. For example, if I download or select a pdf file from a website it displays ok. However I cannot print it. Print preview in the "file" pull down shows a blank page. IE, Safari, Chrome Opera all work ok as expected (we have been designing a website hence all the other browsers but FF is our default) I have switched Kaspersky on and off to no avail, Windows Firewall is off

I have just gone back and forth a couple of times between FF4 and FF3 and I have found that it's the printer icon on the address bar that doesn't work in FF4. The icon prints pdfs ok in FF3. I have since discovered the transparent control bar that fades in and out near the bottom of the page. I had never seen this before. You have to get lucky to find it I guess. Right click menu and Control P works in both versions too I now discover, but I didn't know about those either because the now defunct printer icon was the obvious route to me!

  • .pdf in preview won't print

For the past 2 days, I am having issues printing documents I am viewing in Preview.  When I press (command P) the File button highlights briefly, but then the print screen does not come up.  However, on occasion, it has worked.  I have all software up to date and have tried restarting the computer and closing all software.  Every other program prints just fine, (for instance, in mail, I can press Command P and it will bring up the print screen as usual).  Any thoughts on why this is happening?

first step of toubleshooting sould always be
if the command p fails does choosing print in the menu works?
that should narrow it down to if it's a general printing issue or a shotkey issue...

  • InDesign doc exported to PDF won't print

I'm experiencing issues with an exported PDF from InDesign. More specifically, when I export the InDesign doc to a PDF and try to print, I don't have any issues, nor does anyone else in my office, however some of the people that I'm sending the document to are experiencing trouble printing it. They get to 44% flattened and then the printing process slows down, and then once it reaches 50% they get a pop-up window saying that the document can't print and the whole thing stops. They can print the first page by just selecting that page, however the second page cannot be printed this way. I have re-exported the PDF several times and these folks having the issues have cleared their browser cache, re-downloaded the document, saved it to their desktop before opening, and tried renaming the document as well.
What's going on here, and what can I do or tell them to do to fix this?
Also, updating their Adobe Reader or Adobe Acrobat does not solve the problem.

Hi, I was just wondering if you got the problem resolved. I'm asking because we are experiencing kind of the same issue in our office. Our Marketing Manager is using Adobe InDesign and exports her documents to PDF. These PDFs won't print in any of our printers in the office. It spools and then gets stuck and it actually makes our HP Coloured Laser Printer throw an error (error 79) and we'll have to restart the printer due to this error. We can print other documents and other PDFs in the printer so we know it's not a printer driver issue. In fact, we have isolated the problem to only PDFs exported from InDesign. Even if we create a blank document from InDesign and export it to PDF it still won't print. Really odd. We would appreciate if you could share your solution if you were able to fix the issue. Thanks!!

How exactly are you trying to print those PDF files to the HP printers? From Adobe Reader? From Adobe Acrobat? Or are you just somehow sending them to the printer itself?
Typical HP and other desktop printers either don't directly support PDF printing or only support subsets of PDF.
Assuming you haven't tried this already, try printing the PDF to your printer from either Adobe Acrobat or Adobe Reader.

  • Adobe reader shows text but won't print all the text

I have a form used by many and it works with no problem.  Today one came in you could see all the text, but when printed, only some of the text appeared.
I checked it on 3 machines, also one that has Acrobat 9  on it, same results.
On the print setup, under comments and forms, I  have Documents and Markup set,  but if I click on "form field only"  I do get the missing text.
As said we have gotten many forms from other people, no problems, so it really not for lack of knowing how to print it correctly.
The only print preview I can see I have is when I go to print it, it appears on the right, and it is missing the text there.
I have removed all name and address from the form for privacy reason,   I did add my name in a few blocks and then saved it but it won't print that also.
for some reason only the top row under CPR   AED  and SFA print, but as you can see, there are a bunch that don't, along with all the names I removed.
    Thanks in advance.
    John
    Any ideas?
Tuesday--still working on this,  I activited the voice part of my acrobat 9 and it reads all the text while in PDF form, just won't print it.

Restarted computer and seems to be working again.

  • Acrobat Pro XI Mac won't print a .pdf file, but Apple Preview will print correctly

    Hello,
I have Acrobat Pro XI for Mac.  recently I've run into pdf files that will show the document on screen ok, show up on print preview screen ok, but when I send it to a printer I either get:
    1.  no printout... the document passes through the printer queue ok, but nothing comes out (no blank paper, nothing).  no data seems to even reach the printer/print server.  no error.  the print job basically vanishes into thin air like the job was never sent
    2.  prints out with all the characters of a text substituted with squares (again, no error. just prints squares instead of text)
But when I print the same document using Apple's Preview program on the same machine, the file prints out fine.
I experience this problem with two different Macs, with two different OS versions.  Again both machines will print the .pdf file fine using Apple Preview, but not with Acrobat Pro XI.
I've searched for this problem, but no one seems to have this problem. I've tried just printing one page, etc., and no difference (won't print, or print wrong using Acrobat, but prints fine using Preview)
the files are typically sent via e-mail from a vendor, or a web downloaded form (invoice, forms filled out.  some are secure, some are not).  and these are from multiple sources.
Any ideas what might be the problem, and how to fix this?
    system:
Mac Pro (early 2008) and MacBook Pro (mid-2011)
MacOS 10.8.4 and 10.6.8 (multiple computers have this same problem)
    Acrobat Pro XI, 11.0.04
printer: HP LaserJet 5MP (yes.. old.. but it works) via HP JetDirect + print server on  LAN

I just found this solution on another board, I tried it  (I removed the same file listed below) and it worked for me....
Safari won’t save or print PDFs: how to fix
    :: Tuesday, January 29th, 2013 @ 5:29:46 am
    :: Tags: Computers
If Safari won’t save or print PDFs (but views them without any problems), you probably have an Adobe PDF plug-in installed. In Safari, go to Help->Installed Plug-ins and do a search for “PDF.” If you have anything with “PDF” in it other than “WebKit built-in PDF,” that is probably the culprit.
On my computer, the problem was “AdobePDFViewerNPAPI.plugin”. To remove it, I quit Safari, did a Spotlight search (Command-Option space) for that file name, and then dragged it to the trash. When I restarted Safari, I could print and save PDFs again. You can also manually find the plugins by going to the system “Library”  folder (the one at the root of your hard disk, not in your user folder) and looking in the “Internet Plug-Ins” folder.
    I’m on OS X 10.8.2, running Safari 6.0.2 (8536.26.17).

  • Safari won't print PDF files

Weird.  If Safari gets pointed to a pdf file, it will display fine on screen, but won't print it out or save/display in Preview. Just started happening a week or so ago and I can't pin down what changed.
Fox and Chrome handle the pdfs normally.
    Suggestions?
    Safari 6.0.2
    OSX 10.8.2
    Thanks in advance!

    Back up all data.
Triple-click the line of text below to select it, the copy the selected text to the Clipboard (command-C):
    /Library/Internet Plug-ins
    In the Finder, select
    Go ▹ Go to Folder
from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-G. Paste into the text box that opens (command-V), then press return.
From the folder that opens, remove any items that have the letters “PDF” in the name. You may be prompted for your login password. Then quit and relaunch Safari, and test.
The "Silverlight" web plugin distributed by Microsoft can also interfere with PDF display in Safari, so you may need to remove it as well, if it's present.
If you still have the issue, repeat with this line:
    ~/Library/Internet Plug-ins
If you don’t like the results of this procedure, restore the items from the backup you made before you started. Relaunch Safari again.

  • InD CS6 doc won't print or export to PDF

Hi, I'm having a problem with my document:
    304 pages
Using master frames and master page items (page numbers and running heads, about 25 master spreads in all)
6 or so pages suddenly had an enormous pasteboard and the text on these pages disappeared (but did not reflow onto the next available page)
I deleted these affected pages, the text automatically reflowed and I added in new pages at the end of the doc to accommodate the overset text.
I also deleted the master pages that were assigned to the 6 affected pages and recreated them
The Indesign doc looks "fixed" but won't print or PDF. The error message is here:
I sent the file to a colleague and it appeared to work fine on her computer.
I also copied all the text that was in linked text frames (about 280 pages worth) and copied it into a new document. The new document also has master text frames but no other master page items. The new doc also won't print or PDF.
Sending the file to my colleague is a work-around that will do for today but I need the file to behave before I send it to the printer.
    Any help?
    Thanks!

    Yup, tried that
I have found a bit of a work around: I PDF'd the first half with no problem, then I tried to PDF the second half - this failed.
Then I PDF'd chapter by chapter until I found that chapter 12 was giving the error message, so I copied and pasted the chapter into a new document and PDF'd that.
The I combined the PDFs into one document in Acrobat.
It's a solution of sorts but still doesn't completely solve the problem of the original working file.
Thanks for the help! Happy holidays!

  • Canon Printer suddenly won't print pdfs

All of sudden it won't print pdfs. It will print from Pages, Textedit etc but if I try and Print a PDF I get a Canon Error Number : 94 A paper size that cannot be fed from the cassette was selected. Load paper in the auto sheet feeder, and press the Paper Feed Switch on the printer. Printing will restart. That's as far as it goes. Tried reinstalling the drivers (last update from Canon was June 09). Also reinstalled Acrobat Reader with no luck.

Nothing changed. But since then using AppZapper I removed all the Adobe stuff I have. Then went into Libraries and removed Adobe folder. Then went to print and it works. So it must be an Adobe issue. Don't know what but if I can read and print pdfs without Adobe installed that will do me. Strange. Uses Preview of course.

  • PDF won't print beyond a certain page.

I have sent a 52 page pdf to a client created in Adobe InDesign. They have tried printing it, and it won't print beyond page 23, on multiple printers. I am able to print all pages at home, so I don't know if the problem is somewhere in the pdf's setup, or the clients printers. Has anyone run into this issue before? Thank you for any suggestions.

  • Acrobat 8.1.4 Won't Print.  Adobe PDF 8.0 Printer Leaves No Files

    Mac OS X 10.5.6
    Acrobat 8.1.4
MacbookPro 2.6 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo 4GB RAM
Just finished a fresh install of OS and CS3 Web Premium.  The Adobe Printer worked for a little bit then just stopped.  It appears to be going through the process okay, but when you go out to the Finder and look in the folder it was supposed to be printing to then you see there is no file there.
I've tried printing directly from Acrobat to my HP2100M laser printer but the queue says it's sending it to the printer then a very short time later says it's done, but nothing comes from the printer.  If I open the same pdf in Preview then it prints to the printer with no problem.
Even though I've only had this software for 10 months, Adobe says they no longer offer free support for their product not working unless I buy their new product.  I take it to mean that they have a great deal of incentive to release new products in order to stop supporting the old?  No free support within the first year?  Scary.
    Anybody have ideas?

    Your welcome.
    Another tip:
If you have more than one version of acrobat  6,7,8, 9 ...
use same procedure ask I outlined above.
Now open the latest verion of acrobat you have loaded.
Now have it reinsall the PDF printer as outlined above.
Now an version of Acrobat can use any newer version of the Adobe PDF Printer, but will only use the features built into that version of Acrobat. Any newer features in the PDFversion simply will not be used.
Having more than one copy of the Adobe PDF Printer can cause Strange problems.
This only applies to Mac version of Acrobat. Because Mac's install each newer version into a new Directory. Last information I heard you can not have more than one version of Acrobat due to Registration keys.
