Idapi

Using CR X1 on Windows XP running as administrator.
I have 7 BDE Idapi aliases yet when I go to data source the IDAPI database DLL option only shows  ...No items found...
I'm guessing CRX1 cannot find the BDE configuration file (idapi32.cfg) or maybe the idapi dll (idapi32.dll).  However, all other programs on the PC that use the BDE run with no problems.
Is there a way to 'reset' the idapi option in CR X1 ?
Ed

Try adding the location of (idapi32.cfg) or maybe the idapi dll (idapi32.dll) to the system PATH statement, re-boot and test again.
Thank you

  • Updated to Indesign CC and Incopy CC = sluggish server for icap & idap trying to open with CS5.5

    1. The local editors (PC) cannot open the Incopy assignments from the server, like before. When they have tried this, they get font errors and/or extremely slow open. If the Incopy does open, it takes several minutes to make each change.
In order to bypass this, the designer has to package the Incopy assignment and email to them.
    2. The other side of the problem occurs when the editor emails back the package to the designer (Mac). Normally, we have been able to double click the package within the email and it opens into Indesign and updates. Now if we do this, the package tries to open with Indesign CS5.5. I placed my Incopy CS5.5 and Indesign CS5.5 into the trash, but it still tries to open with the old application.
In order to bypass this, the designer has to drag the .idap package to the desktop, attempt to open it, save the files to the computer because of an error message, replace the .icml file and then go back to the original indesign file and hope that it updates with the editors corrections. Another work around has been to drag the .idap package over the Indesign CC app.
Not a really efficient way to use this Indesign/Incopy workflow, I know. Perhaps I'm overlooking an easy solution. Please help.
    Thank you, in advance.

Simply try saving with the same name. It will effectively over-write your file as you want. The "[converted]" I find this to be a courtesy to let you know at a glance that you're working on an older version document. As far as the path issue, I can't answer that, as I use a third party program which, with a single keystroke, takes me to the original folder the files resides in. It's called Default Folder, and I've found it indispensable since 1999. Try it, you'll love it. It's from St. Claire Software.
    Cheers!

  • How to use soap with IDAP

    Hi,
The documentation states that the namespace of the IDAP envelope
can be changed from oracle specific to 'soap' It also states that
this is only possible with iAS9i? Does this mean I cannot use
soap as the envelope when running on anything other then iAS
(e.g. Bea WLS, JBoss etc...) ?
    Kind regards,
    Ronald van Kuijk

    Hi,
The servlet currently shipped with 9i understands only IDAP
messages. In 9.0.1.2 patch release, the servlet has been changed
to understand SOAP envelope as well. This change is also
    available with iASv2.
So when 9.0.1.2 is available you can use the AQ servlet and
deploy it with any Servlet 2.x compatible engine (not necessarily
    iAS).

  • Extended Receiver Determination in 7.31 IDApi

    Hi,
I'm using the 7.31 IDApi to create\change an ICO in 7.31 AEX. Currently this is working fine. However, I also need to create an ICO using the Extended receiver determination but I do not see ay function for this in the existing wsdls that SAP has provided.
I have also referred to William Li's blogs for IDAPi for this.
    Using PI 7.3’s Directory API
Could you please let me know if creating an ICO with Extended receviver determination from IDApi is possible and any pointers as to how it can be done would be very helpful.
    Regards

    Hi Shiladitya
I can see that there is a option for dynamic receiver rule in the receiver determination of ICO.
You can find the same in
    IntegratedConfigurationCreateChangeIn----> IntegratedConfiguration--->Receivers--->DynamicReceiverRule
I am in 7.31 dual stack SP 07.

    hi Kesa_Kara
    you're correct.
I would do the migration in two steps:
    - migrate the collection from domain1 to domain2 on a dedicated TFS server with no other collections and no users added to TFS.
    -  after verifying the correctness of the migration, detach the TFS collection from this dedicated TFS server, backup and restore the collection database to final SQL Server and than attach the collection on the final TFS server

    Hello,
Since last week I have a problem with the Crystal Report application for Visual Studio 2010. When I create a new Crystal report project, and move my mouse into the report design area Visual Studio crashes. If I stay out of this area I can launch my report and see the loaded data in the report, everything else in VS works, but as soon as I move my mouse into the report design area it crashes VS.
When I debug I get the following exception:

    - Reinstalled Crystal Reports;
    - Repaired the Visual Studio installation, by running the installer and installed Crystal Reports again;
    - Downloaded and repaired the C++ Redistributable package;
    - Set folder permission of the project folder to Everyone;
    - Download DebugDiag 1.1 and inspect the crash dump for any problems. I am not very familiar with this, thus I can't tell if there's a problem here.

    mmmm Very interesting....
We know GDIPlus has bugs in it, I've logged a few bugs now for font rendering issues and each time the Developers come back and say it's a bug in Microsoft's GDIPlus and we can't work around it.
I've never heard of this happening by simply moving the mouse over the viewer. Sorry I assumed it was as we have noted in the Kbase articles. It was one of those strange tasks when quickly moving the mouse over the report objects....
Looking over our code we hook into the mouse events and  which is also part of the Video drivers in a low level so it's likely a combination of your video card drivers and hardware.
What Video card are you using and have you tried updating them?
A great tool is called BelArc Advisor, and it's free, to scan your hardware and get all of the info.
If it's that bad and you are still having problems after updating your video card drivers I suggest you log a case with Microsoft to look into the issue. We can get the PDB's for you if they need them to help debug the problem.
    Thanks
    Don
PS - Unfortunately the 2 guys who have done most of the work with the mouse movement problem are off on holidays for a few weeks but likely this is the same problem, just more severe in your case.

  • InCopy CS4 (PC) / InDesign CS4 (mac) not working

My client and I are trying to establish an InCopy CS4 (PC) / InDesign CS4 (Mac) workflow. Neither of us has ever used InCopy and we are all getting frustrated now that our first production cycle has come and gone and the client is not recouping the money they invested on this software. Our trial system was successful for awhile and then it just stopped. The client says she can't open the icma/icml files and they need the indd file. So I send a new batch of files with the indd included and still no luck.
I'm saving the assigments like I've been saving in our initial trial run. In ID I go to Incopy > Export > Add all Stories to Assignment. That creates the content folder and the .icma files. I zip everything and send it off via email attachment.
Is there something I am doing wrong? Something my client needs to do? I prefer not to have to send the indd file. Should I have to do that for them to edit in Incopy? I appreciate any advice. Thank you.  Lynn

Don't zip the files, that won't work.ID/IC is meant to work on a local server w/local staff. For a remote workflow you have to use a special technique.
After you create the assignment, use the Package for InCopy command in the Assignments panel. That creates an ICAP file that you send to the client.
When the double-click the ICAP file, it unpacks (it's like a zip file) on their computer and the assignment opens in InCopy. They work on the stories, and when they're done, they use the Return for InDesign command in *their* Assignments panel menu. That creates an IDAP file that they send to you.
When you open the IDAP file, it unpacks, looks for the INDD file (be sure not to rename or move it in the meantime), and updates the stories w/the editors changes.
Those are the broad strokes. It's covered more thoroughly in the online help file of both ID and IC ... you *and* your client should read up on it. And I cover it very thoroughly (4 videos ... Chapter 15) in my online Lynda.com tutorial on the CS4 workflow:

  • InCopy workflow with packages

I am using the InCopy CS5 workflow and sending icap files to external clients for editing. The client edited the file and then sent back an .idap file.
If someone other than myself who made the original .icap files tries to update the Indesign template with the package, it doesn't recognise where the original Indesign template is and asks to browse to it, although I can update the Indesign no problem. Even if you open the Indesign template and go to file update package it asks to browse to the original Indesign template.
Has anyone ever experienced this before?

Is everything on a server accessible to all users?

  • Missing INDD file type

Yesterday, I updated CS2 with CS4. Then, CS2 was uninstalled.
Today I have been trying to use CS4 InDesign. When I tried to open indd files (created with CS2), I am getting only empty pages.
I also found that INDD was not listed under Folder Options>File Types, but I see InCP, INDP (also IDAP, IDML, IDP) but not INDD. I could not figure out what is going on with CS4. Do you have any explanation for it? James

That's the gist of the first thread Bob suggested you see.
Removing programs tends to remove the file associations, too. You can either restore the association using Explorer, which will use the same icon for all version documents, or you can re-install which will restore the associations and enable the icon handler .dll to show you the correct icon for each version.
Not that it matters at this point, because the damage is done, but uninstalling older versions after installing new ones is generally poor practice and likely to remove something useful. If you are going to uninstall the old version, do it first. You can also create problems for yourself if you try to install an old version after the new one.
There's really not much reason to uninstall old versions of most Adobe products at all. The only one I know that won't co-exist nicely is Acrobat, and the installer will remove the old version for you these days. I still have ID installed going back to version 2, and you'd be surprised how often I want to open a legacy file in the original application.

  • Having some major mac - pc issues using remote workflow

Hi all. I'm having some major issues using the InCopy workflow and was hoping someone could help me out with a few items.
I've helped a client out with their workflow, proposing, demoing and promoting the InCopy workflow which seemed to be the best solution. And don't get me wrong when posting this message on the forum: I love the InCopy workflow and think it's briliant.
The scenario is that a design agency needs to deliver the layout for a big annual report for their client, who then makes changes in the text etc. The design agency is on a mac (ofcourse), but the endclient is on a PC. Now after some training and trying this all works fine. They are using the remote workflow, using icap and idap files (which they place on dropbox for easy transfer)
But they've been having so many issues these last few weeks, it's been crazy. And I'm actually starting to feel a bit uncomfortable every time they call me. Just to make clear, they love InCopy (... when it works). And eventhough I'm a huge supporter of the program I just wanted to make sure if there are any other glitches that I should know about. The thing is that (because I work for an IT company), every time they need support they get billed ofcourse. But the problem is that everytime they run into some kind of problem, production just stops and they need me to fix everything.
    Issues that they are having:
    - the endclient (so copywriter) works on a project all weekend (an icap file). Saves everything, checks in, closes, goes to bed. Next morning (monday) she opens up the same file to continue working and gets the "cannot recover..." error (see attachment). And she looses her edits. You need to understand that these copywriters really know what they're doing with InCopy.
    - when a colleague of hers is working with InCopy, and InCopy crashes and she reopens her file then it also happens that the checked-out stories from before remain checked out and she cannot continue (because the story has already been checked out by "another user" (herself)). I managed to resolve this by opening up the individual icml files in incopy and just closing them again. That seemed to remove the "lock" status of the icmls. But still they need me for support. This also happened in the design agency. They are working on a layout, check out stories, InDesign crashes, reopen file and stories remain checkout and they cannot continue because InDesign thinks that they're checked out to another user. And they do not have InCopy themselves so I cannot use my "open icml in incopy and close"-workaround.
    - after a few extra InCopy crashes (where InCopy.exe just doesn't feel like doing anything anymore and quits), I decided to place their files (unpacked icma and icmls from the icap) on the C drive instead of on their server and this seemed to resolve a bit of the trouble. The workflow seems to be a lot more stable now. I did this because they also received the dreaded "Error: code 0" message when starting up (and again) she lost her work). After some creative googling I was able to find out that this might have something to do with disk permissions and copy-paste issues on a PC server. Anyway, it was worth a try
    - only yesterday the client called me stating she couldn't start up her icap files anymore. I was able to recover the indiviual icml files and send these back to the design agency and recover part of her work. (after combing out the files I discovered on of the icml files was damaged and could not be opened, that is why opening the icap file failed).
    - and one last issue (which isn't really a problem but just a bit of a rant ;-). Why does it take 8 full minutes to open up a 2,6Mb icap file on a fast laptop (from the HD)? Even on my own laptop it takes several minutes? I know that the waiting time has something to do with the complexity of the files (images, how many styles, how many icmls, etc). But it seems ridiculously long.
They've been having issues like this on a weekly basis and they're starting to loose faith in the solution because it's costing them more money (via support) then it's saving them.
Does anyone have any experience with this? Is this because it's a mac-pc workflow? I understand that this is officially supported, but it practice teaches us that it's in fact not that stable I'd rather just recommend the client to get a mac from the start. Every client would rather hear that than having to deal with all these issues. And I have to say I'm very happy with the client for being so understanding, but I think they'll run out of patience soon if this keeps up. I've also included some other "postcards from InCopy" ;-) and so you must understand if you get all these errors during the last 3 weeks losing hours of work ... well it's just not fun anymore.
Thank you all very much, and hopefully see you guys at PepCon this year.
    Bart

    Hi Bob,
You are right, I didn't give this information. I must have forgotten.
    Designers are working with:
    OSX 10.7.2
    InDesign CS5.5 (fully patched)
    Copywriters are working with:
    Windows 7
    InCopy CS5.5 (also fully pathed).
There is no font managing software used, everyone uses open-type fonts which they specifically purchased for this workflow.
If the problem persists I will try with the assignment based workflow on dropbox. I waited with this workflow because the client wants to keep their files on their server so they can have backups if something goes wrong. I know Dropbox makes backup as well, but lets just say they have more faith in their own systeem (dropbox was completely new to them ).
So there are no reports of an unstable mac-pc InCopy workflow?
    Thanks

  • CR Developer 11.5 - no Oracle connection listed

    Hello,
I have the Oracle client on my PC, and have selected Oracle Data Access as an installed option in setup.
    I have crdb_oracle.dll under c:\windows\system32\drivers\etc.
But, when I create a new report, "Oracle" is not an option under Create New Connection.  How do I make it available for reporting?
    thx

    It states that
For CR XI to work with Oracle, you will need to install the Oracle 9.2 client or higher.
    Here I'm pasting the article
    KBase Article ID:c2018235
    Article refers to:Crystal Reports XI
    Symptom
In Crystal Reports, there have been changes made to the availability of native database drivers.
What are those changes, and how will they affect the migration of your reports to Crystal Reports XI?
    Resolution
Below are the native database driver changes that have occurred between Crystal Reports 8.5 and XI. Migration strategies are offered for each change.
    SQL Server Native Driver:
The SQL Server Native driver is deprecated. Crystal Reports 8.5 was the last version to have this driver. When migrating a Crystal Reports 8.5 report to Crystal Reports XI, it is recommended that the report be converted to an ODBC connection in Crystal Reports 8.5, and then migrated to Crystal Reports XI.
    PC Type Databases:
In Crystal Reports 8.5, connections to PC type databases are created by clicking the 'Database Files' file folder in the 'Database Explorer'. In Crystal Reports XI, the following options are now used depending on the database to which you are connecting.
u2022 'Access/Excel (DAO)' - Native DAO Connectivity (Access, Excel)

    Lotus Notes Native Driver:
The Lotus Notes Native driver is provided in Crystal Reports XI on an 'as-is' basis. This driver is deprecated so if issues occur with the driver, or if new versions of Lotus Notes are released, the driver will not be updated. Therefore, ODBC is the recommended method to connect to Lotus Notes to ensure full availability of functionality with Lotus Notes. It is also highly recommended that the report be converted to an ODBC connection in Crystal Reports 8.5 before migrating to Crystal Reports XI.
    Dictionaries and SQL Queries:
When migrating to Crystal Reports XI, reports that are based off Dictionaries or SQL Queries (.qry files) will need to update their datasource to use Business Views or Command objects, respectively. Dictionaries and the Query Designer have been deprecated and are no longer supported in Crystal Reports XI.
To migrate a report to use a Business View or a Command object, BusinessObjects Enterprise is required. Business Views are created in BusinessObjects Enterprise XI, and you will need the Data Source Migration Wizard to update your report's datasource to a Business View. Reports based on SQL queries will need to migrate to a Command object to run in Crystal Reports XI. In order to set the location of your report to the Command object, the Command must be stored in the Repository.
The Data Source Migration Wizard is included with Crystal Enterprise 9 and 10, and Business Objects Enterprise XI.
    Oracle Native Driver:
The Oracle native driver for CR XI requires the Oracle 9.2 or higher client, and the Oracle 8.17 or higher server. Before migrating reports based on the Oracle Native driver, make sure you have Oracle 9.2 or higher installed to continue using the native connection. If you do not have Oracle 9.2 or higher you can try switching to an ODBC connection to continue using an older version of the Oracle client.
