IDCS3: Can't enter values into dialog boxes

I've just started using InDesign CS3 on an Intel Mac, having been using CS2 on a G5. When I try to enter a value into a dialog box, nothing happens. The dialog box refuses to accept any inputted value. If I use the up/down arrows, I can change the value but only in whole increments. I can't, for instance, place an item 10.5mm from the page edge. It has to be 10 or 11mm.
The same is true of any dialog box for any value.
Has anyone else experienced this very frustrating issue?

I guess I need to clarify my situation. I was using the wrong terminology. When I talk about "dialog boxes" I mean the palettes like the Control Panel, Paragraph, Character, Stroke, etc. I can't type into any of them. If I put the cursor in, say, the X pos text box and hit tab (to go to the Y pos text box) all that happens is that all the palettes are hidden. It's like I can't get any focus at all in the palette text boxes.
Sorry about the confusion.
This problem isn't limited to my machine, it happens on any of our networked Macs running CS3, so I think the problem may be related to something else, possibly the Suitcase Server. But there's no way I can confirm this. I was hoping someone else had had the same problem and discovered a solution.

Magic Mouse changes the values in dialog boxes

When working in Photoshop and saving files, I noticed that a sideways swipe on the Magic Mouse will change the values in dialog boxes. Unfortunately, it's a little too sensitive. When saving as JPEG and reaching for the keyboard to hit Return for OK, my hand will sometimes lightly brush against the mouse. This invariably has the effect of lowering the JPEG compression amount to zero and ruining the image, so I must turn this feature off or abandon this mouse. Is there a way to do so?

The horizontal scroll is a pain in the a$$ IMO and many others to. The way to disable it is to type (copy/paste) into a Termainal window the following command line (this is one line, it's shows wrapped due to the forum display layout):
defaults write com.apple.driver.AppleBluetoothMultitouch.mouse MouseHorizontalScroll -bool NO
Turn your mouse off and back on and you will then have no more horizontal scrolling.
To reenable the horizontal scroll change the No to YES in the command.
There's a little GUI application that can do this for you if you feel uncomfortable using terminal. It's called MagicMouse Scroll. You have to read the text there to dig out the download link so here's that download link for your convenience:

You still have to turn your mouse off and back on to get the setting to take effect.

How to enter text into text box in Pages '09

When I manually select a text boxes in Pages, I can paste text into them. I can move from text box to text box using System Events to keystroke tabs but have not figured out how to get Applescript Editor to make the pastes. I am trying to use Applescript Editor to enter text into a pages document that is formatted for labels.

I have downloaded template U-0089-02_P.doc from Avery, 14 boxes displayed in two columns of seven rows.
Once you have clicked in the upper left box, the following script should enter text into every box, from left to right and top to bottom.

This is a cross post, so sorry about that, but I had originally replied to a previous post,
before I realized it was probably the wrong forum
for my question.
Copying from a document to a dialog box field doesn't work anymore; How do I fix it?
We have the problem since upgrading to Tiger.
Our Mac users, during their workflow, paste a filename
from a document into the 'save as' field (when printing to a .ps file).
This no longer works. UNLESS they control click in the 'save as' field.
Then they can select 'paste' with the mouse. Why is this happening? and how can we fix it? (so they can just 'command C' then 'command V' as they used to).
We have repaired permissions, cleared user caches,
tossed finder prefs, logged in as another user,
all to no avail.

I agree that something else is capturing the shortcut, as
all shortcuts are unavailable in the pulldown menus at that point where we used to be able to 'Command V' paste into the text field. We're not using Quick Keys, and the
Full keyboard access setings are default for OS 10.4.
I did experiement with turning of some of the modifier F key selections in the Keyboard system prefs but none made
any change for this issue. For now our work around will be to control click in the text field and select 'paste'.
Seems odd that the contextual menu is available for that field but a 'command V' or command control V doesn't work.
Not a huge deal, more of an irritant, but I'll keep on the hunt! Thanks again!

JS can not interact with open dialogs in any way, unless it's a dialog
created in JS using the Dialog object.

What is requirement for passing the data in a single line ? Do you finally need to append the same in the internal table and pass it in the module ?
You can create an internal table of type 1000 character and can loop the existing internal table. Then you can append the Work area in a single line and can finally append it to the table.
DATA : ITAB type standard table of char1000.
Loop at <existing table>.
concatenate table work area wa_char100 into Itab_char_1000.
endloop.
APPEND itab_char_1000 into itab.

i have a table control on the screen which have one input field which user needs to fill. But as per he business req. we don't want him to enter any value, values should be enter from the search help only.
If i make input field Read only it comes in gray color and user get confused. tell me some way so i can create white input field in which user can not enter values from key board.
Please suggest...

This you cannot control. because if it is enabled only in that case you can see it white.
do that thing as suggested by basakar to add a new input field just besides first one with zero padding.
One workaround is use an image instead of real input field. the image should have the input field as image.
and besides it create the input field with width 0 and padding also zero.
i think this can fulfill the requirement.

I can not enter comma in combo box in LV 8.20, but it can be done in LV 8.0.1, so I suppose it's a bug!
I can enter comma via Edit Item menu, but I would like to enter it in run time.

This was reported to R&D (CAR ID: 4131FLYN and 40MCJC4U) for further investigation. A possible workaround, like you have stated in your response, would be to do add commas while in edit items for the combo box.

First, please try the SFC command to check if you any corrupted system files:

If this issue persists, it is recommended to perform system restore to get back to a previous time point to check what the result is:

by the look of the code

list.add(mystringvalue, ? );you may not be because every JList is put in a JScrollPane
but if you do want to do it through the palette there is an option in properties - model which you can uses to add in values.
and if your looking to get info. from a database look up

I am assuming u have popupcalendar.js and stylesheets.
Include the javascript in your jsp.

and call the method popUpCalendar on some event like onclick as shown below.

Can we display GUI windows/dialog boxes from two asynchronus threads?

Hi All,
I'm facing a problem with asynchronous threads. I've a client-server application where client is a Java application and server is a C++ application running on UNIX m/c. The C++ server is implemented equivalent to a HTTP server which handles the HTTP requests from the java client. So, whenever user select some action on the Java client, say "File/Open" menu, the client sends the equivalent HTTP request to the server, and waits for the response back from the server, and after getting the response displays it on the GUI.
So far the java client application is single-threaded, and the communication between client-server was only one-way, i.e. all the communication was always initiated by the client.
We had to change this behavior to make it multi-threaded, or rather two-way communication where kernel while processing any client request might need some response from the GUI. So, we had to create a ServerSocket on java client side, and C++ server is connected to this socket. So, whenever C++ server has to send some message to the GUI, it can send thru this other socket.
On the java side, it's listening at this ServerSocket port in a separate thread, whenever it receives any request, it has to display a dialog box based on the request.
Here is my problem coming. The main application thread (which is an AWT-EVENT- thread) has made a http request to the kernel and is blocked until it gets the response back, and in the mean time, the C++ server has sent a message to the GUI thru the other socket, and when I use JOptionPane.showOptionDialog(...), I see the dialog box outline but not the contents, and the same for my main application window.
So main question here is, can I invoke, say,
JOptionPane.showOptionDialog(...) on another thread, when the main application thread (rather AWT-EVENT -QUEUE thread) is blocked.
Please let me know if anyone knows the answer or if has faced the similar problem. It will be a big help.

You mean to make the HTTP request in a separate thread, like below,

But we cannot do this, as there is one more constraint with our application, that it has to behave like single-threaded from user's perspective. i.e. If user has clicked "File/Open" menu, user has to wait until the "File/Open" action is completed. He cannot do anything in between.
But if the server sends some message thru the other socket, then it has to displayed, and whatever user select on that dialog box, has to be sent to the server thry the same socket.
I'm not sure whether this possible.
Here is what I tried to make the http request in a separate thread, and at the same time, keeping the main thread in a wait state until the thread completes:

synchronized(server) {
server.makeHTTPRequest(...);
server.notify();
}).start();
synchronized(server) {
server.wait();
Even by doing the above it doesn't work, the GUI just hangs. I think the above code is effectively the same as,invoking directly,
server.makeHTTPRequest(...);
All I know is it's quite confusing. Does anyone has insight into it.

When using firefox beta can not enter text into reply areas on forums.

When visiting vbulletin type sites, the firefox beta will not enter text into the message reply text box. Seems to be only a problem on honeycomb os.

I have a dialog window on my iPad2 labeled iCloud Bakup -- the iPad hasn't been backed up in 4 weeks. The screen is frozen. I can't clear away the dialog box to close down iPad and I can't get to settings to make any changes there. Ideas?

A dialog box has appeared on the screen of my iPad2 and has frozen the device so that I can't close it down or make changes to the settings. The titel is "iCloud Backup" and it reads: This iPad hasn't been backed up in 4 weeks. Backups happen when this iPad is plugged in, locked, and connected to WiFi.
I'm not sure why it hasn't backed up but I can't do anything to clear the dialog box, turn off the device or get to any settings or apps on the device.
Any suggestions? Please help -- I'm caring for my mother in hospice and don't have time to deal with this at the Apple Store!

How can I get a Distiller dialog box in Illustrator CS5 which is exactly the same as Distiller?

I would like to know if there is some type of plug-in, etc. out there that would allow me to have all the functionality of a Distiller dialog box when I save a PDF out of Illustrator CS5. Right now, I just have what comes installed with Illustrator. It's a stripped down version of what you would find in distiller.

When you save a PDF out of Distiller it doesn't just have different options, it's an entirely different program. It doesn't do things the same way, so it can't have the same options. Saving from Distiller is in many ways better, expecially in that transparency isn't flattened.
What specific options are you looking for?
