IDCS4 Keeps craching when placing an image

I have been using IDCS3 for a year or so now, quite often when i 'place' an image, when i navigate to the folder containing the image it suddenly crashes...
I just got IDCS4 thinking this may resolve the problem but it happens even more now?
has anyone experienced this or anyone have a way to fix it?
Thanks in advance!

#1 - turn off auto-activation. What happens now when you place a file?
#2 - Deactivate all your fonts. Turn off Suitcase Fusion. Open new doc and place an image. That's the first thing to do. If it doesn't crash it's a font or Suitcase Fusion issue.
Try the above first before trying #3.
#3 - All your fonts should be in one folder on your HD. Remove them and consolidate them in one location. DO NOT remove any system fonts or fonts in Adobe Rqrd folder. Delete your Suitcase library. Reimport fonts from new location. All library>Font folders should be empty.
I suspect auto-activation is the culprit.

How can I get Illustrator to go back to accessing an image folder that is in one of my client project folders when placing an image instead of taking me back to the  main level of my hard drive every time. It used to do this but quit doing so.
For example, my hard drive is set up as Hard drive/Clients/Client Name/12_100 Project _A/x_Linked Images. When working in illustrator, I have set up a keyboard shortcut of Command/e to place an image. The first time I place an image I have to navigate to the project x_linked images folder for the first time. Everytime I need to place a new image, Illustrator used to take me right back to that same x_Lnked Images folder. Now it takes me back to the main level of my hard drive and I hve to click through all of the folders again to get there. Does that make sense? It's slowing me down when I'm working.
    Thanks, Bruce

I'd get Default Folder X from insidersoftware.com if you want to solve this issue. It's mostly a Mac OS issue and pops up depending on what bugs Apple introduces into whatever version they release. Some OS versions go back to the proper folder, other's don't. With Default Folder.. they always do (among other things)

  • When placing an image in Muse time lag

When placing an image in Muse it takes 20 or more seconds for the folder to populate, is this a mac issue or an adobe issue?

    Hi,
This is an expected behavior, when you place an image in InDesign then it display the preview of the image however you this has no impact on the output unless the image placed is of low-resolution itself.
In order to have good resolution of images, you may switch to View > Display Performance > High Quality.
    Thanks,

  • When placing an image in InDesign, it appears pixelated.  It is a 66mb file in a 6x9" document.

I am new to InDesign, as I've been creating all my documents for print in Acrobat as a PDF.  When I am placing an image, it appears pixelated.

  • My Vision W keeps craching when uploading vid

My creative W keeps crashing when I try to upload videos to it. When doing it through the creative software it comes up with unknown error, but when transfering the "avi" file via windows explorer, this error comes up:
"The I/O operation has aborted because of either a thread exit or an application request"
I don't know what that means tbh. I've uploaded one video but its a poor copy, i have downloaded them from the internet and i own them so its legal i think . It is just quicker to download them from the internet than to rip them and then convert them.
All i want to know is, is this crash/freeze common? I have to remove the battery and then put it back on to get it to work.
    Thank You

  • Need help:photoshop CS3 crashes when placing an image on a blank doc...?

Does this sound at all familiar to anyone or has anybody experienced this as well? I have a blank document open and have tried both placing and opening an image (not one image in particular but many) and I recieve a pop up box saying CS3 has encountered an error and needs to close. I've uninstalled all adobe products on my PC and reinstalled them hoping that would help, but the same problem persists. Please, if anyone has any info, tips, trick i'd very much appreciate it. I'm a working pro and have fallen a day and a half behind because of this. Thanks in advance.

  • Indesign CS6 crashing all the time when Placing an image

    Repost from Installation forum.
Indesign from Design Standard CS6 installed about 2 months ago on a Dell Precision Laptop with 4 Gb Ram Windows XP SP03.  No other programs are running.  I open Indesign and create a document 4.8" high x 4.7" wide.  I insert an object box then place a image that I want to use as a background.  I attempt to select the image to fit it proportionally in the box and Indesign crashes...every time.  So far I've tried searching the knowledge base, a repair, reset all my preferences, created a completely new document, cleared my recovery files, error checking on my HD...and...cursed and thrown my hands in the air.  Nothing helps!!  The program worked 2 days ago when I just had to create a 2 page document with mostly text...now I can't get past this beginning point and I have to have this ad completed by first thing Monday morning.  I can't contact Adobe because they don't do weekends...even though they charge premium prices for the software...so I need some help please.  Any ideas on what to do?
    Thanks,
    Bernie

Thanks...Already tried that too.  The crash seems repeatable.  I open a custom sized document, place a holder box then place an image into the box.  I right click to bring up the Fitting menu or try to pick it off the menu and it crashes...every time.

  • When placing an image in InDesign how do I make sure it's not too pix-elated?

Do I change its pixel count in Photoshop? I'm creating a brochure in InDesign and It looks blurry when I place it as my background.

You should also consider the size of the image (pixels) relative to its print size.
    e.g.
    desired print resolution: 300dpi
desired image print dimension: 8.5" wide
    necessary pixel width: 8.5" x 300dpi = 2550px
For a 'background' image, you may be satisfied with 150-200dpi, so the 8.5"-wide image could be as small as 1275-1700px wide.

  • Colour change when placing Photoshop image

Help needed! In Indesign CS4 I have created a template and within the program have made a couple of rectangular boxes filled with 20% black, placed on the master pages. These have text placed over them in the main pages.
Placing a Photoshop CS4 .psd image in a page of the document, changes the colour of these boxes automatically to a darker colour.- both on screen and printing. If I delete the Photoshop image, the colour of the boxes changes back to what it's supposed to be. I've checked the fill colour of the boxes with and without the image file being placed and both times it says 20% black.
I've checked the Assign Profile settings in both Indesign and Photoshop and both say sRGB IEC61966-2.1 but never having gone into these settings before, I don't know if that's correct.
Anyone have any ideas why this is happening? Thanks.

I will check the Photoshop file to see if this is a problem. As a workaround, I have saved the image as a jpg and placed in the Indesign document and this seems to work fine.
    Thanks for this suggestion.

  • Image cut out when Placed InDesign

I don't quite know how to describe this, so I'm just going to include a screenshot. When placing an image in InDesign Creative Cloud (Only certain images, but all types of formats) the image gets cropped weirdly & pieces of it are missing. It looks like this particular one is cutout in the shape of the bag behind it, but it does it even when the image is merged (like with JPG) so I don't think the layers should be having an impact. When I view them in photoshop, they look whole, but when I place them, this happens. I've tried placing them as photoshop, JPG, PNG, GIF, etc. but it does it every time. Started last week after never having this problem before. Any idea what's going on? I tried updating, but that didn't help. So frustrated.

Do you have a clipping path applied to the image? Open the image in Photoshop and check the Paths panel. If you see a clipping path in there you can remove it. InDesign will apply clipping paths automatically when placing if they're properly created in Photoshop.

  • Images not centred when placed into InDesign CC 2014

    Hello,
Since updating to InDesign CC every time I place a new image into a doc it drops down within the containing box a by a few mm. Auto fit is not on and the problem happens when placing an image via cmd + d or dragging and dropping from bridge or finder. Any ideas?

Thank you for your reply. I ditched the InDesign Defaults pref but couldn't find the InDesign SavedData file. I have uninstalled and put a fresh copy back on to my mac, this seems to have resolved the problem. I guess this was a pref file some where, I just could locate it.
    Thanks for your help.

  • Illustrator cs6 locks up when placing image (yosemite)

Just upgraded to yosemite...was running fine for a week or so but now illustrator finder window freezes when placing an image. Thoughts?

    spooky,
    You may try the list.
The following is a general list of things you may try when the issue is not in a specific file, and when it is not caused by issues with opening a file from external media, see below. You may have tried/done some of them already; 1) and 2) are the easy ones for temporary strangenesses, and 3) and 4) are specifically aimed at possibly corrupt preferences); 5) is a list in itself, and 6) is the last resort.
If possible/applicable, you should save current artwork first, of course.
    1) Close down Illy and open again;
    2) Restart the computer (you may do that up to at least 5 times);
    3) Close down Illy and press Ctrl+Alt+Shift/Cmd+Option+Shift during startup (easy but irreversible);
    4) Move the folder (follow the link with that name) with Illy closed (more tedious but also more thorough and reversible), for CS3 - CC you may find the folder here:
    https://helpx.adobe.com/illustrator/kb/preference-file-location-illustrator.html
    5) Look through and try out the relevant among the Other options (follow the link with that name, Item 7) is a list of usual suspects among other applications that may disturb and confuse Illy, Item 15) applies to CC, CS6, and maybe CS5);
    Even more seriously, you may:
    6) Uninstall (ticking the box to delete the preferences), run the Cleaner Tool (if you have CS3/CS4/CS5/CS6/CC), and reinstall.

  • Difference between CS3 and CS4 when placing images, percentage not kept

There is some kind of difference between CS3 and CS4 when placing images. The images I've dealt with right now were vector images but it might apply to all kinds of images.
When replacing an existing image, the CS4 behaviour is to let the image fill up the frame. In CS3 the percentage was set to 100% as default (the % you see when selecting the image, not the container).
Also when replacing an impage in CS4, the "inner" image frame is kept, while in C3, the percentage was kept.
Is there some kind of placement preferences / settings to let CS4 act the same wat as CS3 did, when placing an image?
    -- Andreas

Yes, the behavior was changed in CS4 (and many users, like me, prefer the new system).
If you click and drag a loaded image place cursor the entire image will be be scaled to fit the proportionally drawn frame -- a huge timesaver if you mostly place uncropped art. If you want 100% of the image at 100% scale, just click and release -- same as before, or as before you can pre-draw a frame and place into it and your image will come in cropped at 100% (unless you've changed the fitting options for the frame before placing).

  • Placing an image in Indesign CS5- Previews are slow

I have a customer with identical intel MacPros, 10.5.8 OSX, 8GB RAM and running CS5.
Whenever they go to PLACE an image in either InDesign or Illustrator the preview window that comes up takes up to 65 seconds for a preview to appear in the window. These are images(TIFFs or EPS) that are over 200MB.
    What I've done so far:
Timed image preview when placing an image from server or off of desktop- No speed difference in showing the preview.
Took my MacBook Pro and tried to place the images- Immediate preview, no matter the size of the image. Desktop and over the network.
Started their MacPros up in target disk mode- Launched InDesign from their computer- No problem.
Started my MacBook Pro in target disk mode- Launched InDesign from my computer- Same speed issues with preview appearing when placing an image.
Replaced their current video cards with accelerated high end graphic cards. - No performance increase. When previewing a placed image, still very slow.
None of my other customers have this issue. Any clues????

There have been sporadic reports that changing the preference for live screen drawing to delayed from immediate has helped other issues such as this.
Try that first and let us know if it corrects the problem.
