IDCS4 picture box enlarges/reduces placed graphic upon import

Hi
I've noticed on several occasions that Indesign CS4 will either enlarge or reduce placed images (usually a PDF) that I have pulled into a picture box by about half a percent to as much as 200 percent almost randomly. On several instances I did not notice the minor shift in size until the bindery department had come in to me to show me after the job had been printed.
Has anyone else experienced this? Is there some preference that needs to be set so that the original size isn't changed when I place the graphic? I typically do have the import options selected when I import the PDF and will usually select crop as I pull it in for imposing. Thanks.

Hi, I'm Devaraj me too facing same problem as Rene like after Exporting and importing about 5 image i'm getting 4 images correctly in that frame but one image is moving up means its not fitted to that frame.
Can any one facing same kind problem means as you got solution and help me too...

    picture size...in putting together a book I can move photos onto a page and enlarge the picture but is there a way to reduce the picture size? some cases I want a smaller picture and if I change the size of the picture box I only get a portion of the image. I want to reduce the image to fit the size of the box.

    If you right click on the image on the page in the context menu select photo box alignment and then select one of scale to fit {centered, Left-aligned, Right-aligned}
    That should do what you are loking for.

  • Enlarge image from picture box when hover over

    Hi,
    I am just hoping i could get some help on something small that i can not seem to get to work.
    I have a picture box, and when i hover over it i would like to change the image to a larger one. I am guessing that is how they give a interspersion of image been magnified when been hovered over.
    I was going to use the mouseHover event but have read that it would not change back to the old image so i hacve used the mouseLeave & MouseEnter events but i does not seem to change the image.
    Any help would be appreciated.
    private void returnToNavPB_MouseLeave(object sender, EventArgs e)
    this.returnToNavPB.Image = Properties.Resources.back_icon;
    private void returnToNavPB_MouseEnter(object sender, EventArgs e)
    this.returnToNavPB.Image = Properties.Resources.Largeback_icon;

    Have you checked that these functions are actually executed (by putting some breakpoints or message boxes)? Also check that Largeback_icon and back_icon are different images in resources.

  • Script to assign scaling attributes to picture box needed

    Hi everyone. Originally asked this in the InDesign forum but seems it's a task that needs some kind of custom solution so was suggested that I tried here...
    I am working on a project where I need to bring numerous links of varying dimensions (Illustrator files in this case) into InDesign at the same scale so that they are proportional to each other.
    • I have a master page with four picture boxes that require the contents to be linked in at 5% and two picture boxes that require the contents to be lined in at 10%
    • This master page is to be used hundreds of times and I have potential several thousand indivdual links to bring in.
    • The pages need populating one at a time and links cannot be bought into InDesign en masse and rescaled together.
    It seems that the scale of the placed content should be set as an attribute of the picture box so that anything linked into it comes in at the pre-assigned scale (that the frame also automatically resizes to the content and maintain it's link to the live caption would be a bonus)
    Could be looking at lots of repetitive trips to the menu bar if nothing out there. Any ideas appreciated.

    Scripting logic can set the scale of any image/graphic after it has been placed into a container… You can change behaviour for empty boxes but a given percentage is NOT one of them… What you should be looking for is to create an Excel or FMP database with page number, image order on page, image scale factor & image file path… Save the data to text file as CSV or TDT. Script can read this data in create new pages off your master as required, place links 6 per page scaling each… It's possible you could do this with one trip to the scripts palette…

  • How do I get images to automatically center in a picture box?

    How do I get images to automatically center in a picture box (e.g. place a picture box on a master page and set it so that any image placed inside will automatically center, but not scale)? This was a simple procedure in CS5 (set "Fitting Options" to 'center' by clicking on the center box in the 9-box centering tool) but seems to have disappeared in CS6/CC. Am I missing something?

    Hi and thanks. Actually, my problem is with setting the properties of the image frame to 'align center' before an image is placed, allowing me to place large numbers of images and having them automatically center instead of me centering each one manually. Even when I create an object style the frame will not hold any alignment settings and apply them to the image being placed (unless some manner of scaling has been chosen, which is not something I want). There are work-arounds I have used but it would be nice to be able to just put a picture box on a master page, set it to align it's contents to the center and just be done with it . Thanks though.

  • Transparent Picture Box

    Sorry if this is the wrong forum, I can't find a 'windows form' forum.
    I have the following code:
    private void MainWindow_Load(object sender, EventArgs e)
    this.SetStyle(ControlStyles.SupportsTransparentBackColor, true);
    this.BackColor = Color.Transparent;
    On this form I have two picture boxes, one in front of the other. I am needing the top one (a .png circle with transparency) to be transparent on the other picture. As it appears now it is a black circle in a white square (the white is alpha according to
    photoshop and the like).
    Any ideas? The picture boxes background colors are set to transparent.
    EDIT: I just noticed it said I need the following as well:
    this.SetStyle(ControlStyles.UserPaint, true);
    But this has not solved the problem.

    Hi UpTide,
    I suppose that the top pictureBox is named PicUp, another is named PicDown. Then you could set the Parent of PicUp to PicDown, set the PicUp's BackColor to Color.Transparent
    PicUp.Parent = PicDown;
    PicUp.BackColor = Color.Transparent;
    Then use the Paint event to draw the transparent pic to PicUp.
    private void PicUp_Paint(object sender, PaintEventArgs e)
    Image transpic = Image.FromFile(@"D:\Material\PIC\transparent.png");
    var g = e.Graphics;
    g.DrawImageUnscaled(transpic, new Point(20, 20));
    Then the PicUp will be transparent.
    If you have any other concern regarding this issue, please feel free to let me know.
    Best regards,

  • Transparency of placed graphics

    Everything was working beautifully and now has gone horribly wrong. I'm sure it's something simple - I just cannot figure out what!
    b Configuration:
    I am using CS3 (all updates current) on Win Vista. I have been using for nearly a year on this sys.
    b Problem:
    I'll try to describe as best I can but I'm sure my terminology won't always be correct.
    I have InDesign files (brochures) created anywhere from nearly a year ago to a few weeks ago. The linked by placing images looked just as expected until last week or so.
    1. My drop shadows, created in InD, printed with boxes around them. My blending space is Normal.
    2. Some of my linked by placing graphics have a white box around one of the graphic's layers.
    b **For example:
    I placed a map that I created in Illustrator. In Illustrator, I created a pathed layer on the map showing a park. I saved as an AI file and PDF file. When I open the map in Illustrator or Acrobat, the map looks perfect. When I place either the AI or PDF in my InD brochure, the map looks fine - except there is a white rectangle around the park. On screen and, worse, in print!**
    My blend settings are normal. My display performance is high quality. My transparency blend space is doc CMYK.
    This has happened in multiple InD documents. This has happened with multiple graphic files. The graphic files have ranged from a simple, single layer shape PhotoShop files to multi-layer vector Illustrator files. The graphic files appear as desired in their native program or Acrobat.
    I have searched help files and knowlegebase files - but perhaps I'm just not looking in the right section - or typing in the correct magic phrase. I desperately need help so I can turn out some brochures (and maybe keep my sanity)!
    b All ideas welcome.

    Oh my goodness! Bob, thank you! The overprint didn't fix the park in the map - but converting all the Illustrator color to process did! Lesson learned.

    after a restart it works for a time, but always slow. I went to the Applestore this afternoon and the made a check and said it would be the logicboard and they would have to change it for CHF 600 and it would be ready in 10 - 15 days

  • EPSs from CS4 artboards appear incorrectly in Quark picture boxes

    I produced a set of maps in AI CS4, then exported the artboards as individual CS3 or CS3 EPS files. When my client opens the files in Quark Xpress picture boxes, they just see a white screen - they have to use the hand tool to drag the drawing within the picture box so the intended artwork comes into view. I tested the files in Quark 6.1 and got the same results.
    Now I used to do this to my client all the time - when exporting FreeHand files to Illustrator (and in fact, before finishing in CS4 I started these maps in FreeHand) I'd leave some stray piece of art by page 1, then when I exported page 5 (saving a copy of the file and erasing all the other pages) the art would appear in Quark with the stray art at 0,0, and the intended artwork waaaay off to the right. Not a nice thing to do to a paying client doing book layout, so I take care not to leave stray art in my final files. And I check in Illustrator for stray art outside the artboard.
    When I open THIS art in CS3 or CS4, and "select all," when I zoom out I find NO stray art that would cause the EPS to offset. All the layers are "on" and unlocked, so there shouldn't be any artwork I would not be able to select. I was under the impression that when "use artboards" is selected during import, CS4's marvelous multiple artboards are supposed to export only what's on the artboard (or overlaps it). And this seems to be the case. But is there some sort of setting or hidden data that didn't get the message?
    In the past when I saved an AI or FH file with stray art as a raster format, theTIFF or JPG includes the entire area with any art in it. When I export these AI files as TIFF they cropped to the artboard. BUT when I email one of the EPSs, Mail displays the image super small and super wide, confirming it thinks there's some stray art or a stray setting.
    If there's some invisible artwork OR improper setting, I haven't found it yet. Any ideas? Has any one discovered a similar problem?
    Thanks!
    P.S. Thanks to JET, Mordy and others for your help figuring out multiple artboards this winter!

    Hi All! Thanks for your feedback, including sloppy art. Some sloppiness is inherent in the process of cobbling together and updating guidebook maps (copying art from better art/overlapping areas rather than redrawing it again) but some is optional. Usually it's findable and fixable.
    Having discovered the problem was related to stray art, and determined it was impossible to erase (i.e. locally buggy) I solved my immediate problem by copy-pasting JUST the art in the artboard onto a fresh page. I had not done this before because I thought AI was UNABLE to paste artwork and copy it to (remember) the layers the art started out on. Turns out it CAN, and has been able to do so for years, but the setting in the layers panel pulldown menu is turned OFF by default. Oh.
    I clicked my ruby red shoes together, turned this setting on, and was able to copy the art, layers and all. Although I was out of the office yesterday, my client was able to fix the rest of the files in-house after I explained where to find this setting.
    In FreeHand the "paste remembers layers" setting is in one of the Preferences panels (another logical place to put it). Figuring such an obvious feature MIGHT exist, rather than looking at AI's preferences panels, upgrade after upgrade, and wondering why Adobe hadn't yet added it, on a whim I looked up "layers" in the index of the Illustrator CS3 Manual, and there it is on page 306.
    (The manual, purchased separately from Adobe, is a fairly handy little book and sometimes it's easier to find stuff that's called by different names than by browsing online help).
    My maps don't use symbol libraries because I started them in FreeHand and some of the source art goes back a good 8 years; redoing the page-sized maps with libraries is arguably less practical than simply maintaining it. I like the directness of grabbing a particular symbol and editing it (even if there is the occasional tradeoff of having to adjust all hundred of them). I do need to play around with symbol libraries - this client has a solid enough set of styles that they'd be a good test case. (I used to work with xrefs in AutoCAD so generally get the concept).

  • Is there a way to change an interactive text field back into a picture box?

    I'm working on recreating an interactive form and I mistakenly made a picture box a text field when I should have turned it into a regular text box.
    I can't seem to find a way to change it back.
    All my boxes are lined up and sized perfectly right now, so I'd rather not have to re-draw the box and re-align and measure everything again if I can avoid it.

    Select text field with Selection tool. Object > Interactive > Convert to Object. Place your picture into the frame.
