IDcs5.5_Not_Reponding

Hi Team
When am export the PDF from the ID, ID gets not responding. We will generate the PDF through our inhouse tool. We have a issue in the some of the files(even that files contain more pages, Illustration and footnotes) am using ID CS5.5 version 7.5.3. while generate the PDF from inhouse tool going to check some of below points:
List unapproved font
Validate the XML against the DTD
Checking for Textframe sequence
Checking for 'z-blank and none' master page
Checking for specified font in onlyforpdf tag
Checking for shift enter without space
Checking COMP note
Checking for donotprintswatch
Checking for missing_id character style
Checking for link status
Checking for table and figure wrap
Checking for graphic has corresponding id in XML
Checking for graphic frame bounds
Checking the Preset for print
Preflight the document
Validate the marginal elements position check
Validate the footnote and cross-reference count, footnote and cross-reference label check
Please advise

You might want to send Gabe Harbs a message and have him look at this, too.
Your behavior is differnt from what I see copying the entire frame -- I continue to see the phantom font (which frankly I expect since the font is part of the paragraph formatting). What bothers me is that preflight isn't recognizing that the font is applied. I don't know why that is -- Find Font see it, the style sees it and removing overrides changes it. So the bottom line is maybe you can't trust preflight.
That said, though, I think that perhaps the reason Preflight doesn't see a problem is the missing font isn't actually applied to any text on the page, only to the "character" representing the anchored object. As soon as I add any sort of text character to the line, or change the paragraph mark to the missing font, Preflight kicks out an error.

  • How do I change position of video floating window in IDCS5 PDF export?

    I have created an interactive document in InDesign CS5 (for Mac) that includes some movies. The page size is 1280 x 800 and the H264.mov files are 960 x 540 and 800x600. I place the movie in the center of the page at 100% size (without resizing either the movie object or the frame). The poster is set to None to keep it blank. In the PDF options, the Play Video in Floating Window box is checked, with the size set to 1x and the Position is set to Center by default but it is grayed out, with no option to change it.
    When I export the document to PDF (Interactive) with both View and Layout set to Default and Buttons and Media set to Include All, the resulting PDF file opens the movie window in the upper right corner of the PDF document window. It does this whether viewing in Acrobat X Pro (10.1.2) or Acrobat Reader (9.5.0). I've tried opening the file on other computers and have the same issue. I've also created the same document in IDCS5.5 with the same outcome.
    I'd like the movie to open in the center of the PDF document window. I've made other documents where it does this, but for the life of me can't figure out what I'm doing differently to cause the floating movie window to open in the upper right corner of the PDF document.
    Any insight you could provide would be very helpful.
    Thanks,
    John

    Thanks for your reply, Steve. I, too, believe there is a bug, but it's not in InDesign CS5, as I mentioned in my post, I was able to replicate the problem by opening the file in CS5.5 and exporting it to an interactive PDF. The movie again opens in the upper right corner.
    However, if I create a NEW page in the document and place the same movie. it opens in the PDF reader centered in the page. I guess I could recreate the document if this is the only fix, but I thought that I may be doing something wrong, which apparently is not the case.

    "If you have placed the video in InDesign in it's own frame, should you not leave this box unchecked?"
    Rik, I didn't actually place the movie into a new frame. What I meant to say was that once the movie was placed into the document, I did not resize it. I found that if I don't have the PDF viewer open the movie in a flaoting window, the movie quality suffers if the PDF viewer opens in a larger size than the original InDesign page size (which can happen depending on how the user's PDF viewer is configured). However, the movie plays and views perfectly if it is in a floating window.

  • How to move print presets from IDCS4 to IDCS5.5

    I have a pile of print presets I'd like to move from IDCS4 to IDCS5. Where are they located and how do I do this? TIA.

    In CS4:
    File > Print Presets > Define...
    Select the ones you want to move, press Save and save the file someplace convenient.
    In CS5:
    File > Print Presets > Define...
    Press the Load button and navigate to your saved file.

  • IDCS5 to PS script - I need your help...

    Hi there
    I have been given a script by someone in the ID forum (who is happy that I ask you gurus here for some help with it) - you can download it here (I hope) https://www.yousendit.com/download/ZGJlRm96MGNCSWMwTVE9PQ.
    Basically what it does at the moment is takes an ID doc, pop it through a PDF setting and make it come out in PS with every layer group as a separate layer, maintaining transparency.
    This is almost perfect for my needs. Almost.
    I wondered if there was a way to make it work better for IDCS5 (it was scripted for IDCS3). In IDCS5 every object is listed as a layer (much like PS and AI).
    It would be amazing if the script could create a PS doc that would have every layer from ID replicated, and the layer groups created just as they are in ID also.
    For example, if I am building a website, I may have 3 layer groups - "Navigation" "Copy" and "Images" - within each would be multiple elements. If I could run the script and end up with the same layer groups and their internal layers it would be incredible.
    Thanks for any help.
    Kind regards
    Tom

    Can nobody help?
    Pretty please??

  • Is there a plugin for macros in IDCS5?

    In the "good old days" of phototypesetting, we had the ability to store up to 10 copy/paste items, including formatting, into the F keys on the keyboard, so that they could be accessed with one keystroke. Is anything similar available for IDCS5? I already use styles and shortcuts, but formatting can still be tedious when a long document contains many repetitive elements.

    @1106design – you could use snippets and libraries for that purpose.
    Though you would need some scripts to get some flexibility into that:
    store the items into libraries, update the items in the library, place the items etc…
    But if you ask for PlugIns: you could try SmartStyles from Woodwing.

  • Does IDCS5.5 save screen position

    Greetings,
    I am disappointed that CS5 is jerky and always opens at full screen and that it saves at whatever page is being worked on, but won't save upon returning to page one, so that the file subsequently opens at page one.
    Why does it bother me that IDCS5 always opens full screen ? Because everytime I open it I have to make it smaller to gain access to my file system, each chapter is in text edit and I like to have it open behind the book spreads so I can update the text file if I want to.
    Older versions of InDesign opened at the magnification and position they were saved in and were much more user friendly in that regard. The IDCS5 is so jerky it is tough to position it without a concentrated struggle (for me).
    If IDCS5.5 addresses these issues I will buy it in a flash. Really, it's a little boring to delete a letter on page one and then put it back so IDCS5 willopen on page 1
    Cordially,
    Garrett

    Naw. It's easier to delete a period and put it back.
    I've been with Adobe since the Nineties, in those days one was continuously surprised by new ways considerate Adobe developers thought of to make life easy for loyal customers.
    I'll wait for rave reviews before I upgrade again. Perhaps the sign will be the return of show-off Adobe art instead of the bland and incorrect geometry of bureaucratic cubism.
    Cordially,

  • IDCS5 jumps around

    Hi,
    When working with IDCS5 I find that it is extremely sensitive to the mouse and quite often jerks to a new position. No other software has this problem with my Apple mouse. Is there a specific Adobe preference somewhere for mouse sensitivity.
    I realize most people don't compose on ID but I place photos and then work in the spaces left over, it's quite disconcerting to lose concentration and reposition a jerky page.
    Also, it seems Adobe is attempting to steer people to use the bridge by making the full screen the size go to full screen rather than inside the control panels,  is there a new key stroke combo for this? (Besides command option 0).
    Garrett

    Glad to know I'm not the only one irritated by this irksome decline in performance.
    My impression is that internal tweaks to make the bridge dominion are compromising performance. The program controls that promote use of the bridge by setting the full screen to obscure the native OS support in favor of the bridge is most likely the cause for reduced performance and the jerky screen.
    The older generation Adobe attitude was to do everything possible to make a smooth work experience for the customer, it sought efficiency and would never have released a jerky interface requiring constant extra steps of screen resizing or an entire extra screen control bar with an extra logo as its main feature.
    Cordially respectful of your long experience and help,
    Garrett

  • IDCS5/MAC - GREP Style to uppercase a letter after a dash between words

    G'day there.
    I'm trying to create a GREP style to uppercase a letter after a dash between words, more specifically where one word starts with a capital and the one after a dash does not e.g. Lorem-ipsum = Lorem-Ipsum
    The full story is that there is a standing indesign file used over and over again which data-merges surnames which are in a massive database. The data arrives in uppercase and our mail barcoding software allows us to Title Case certain fields, but the Title Case behaviour has the following results:
    * McLeod = Mcleod
    * D'Agostino = D'agostino
    * Smith-Bunting = Smith-bunting
    i've been able to solve the McLeod = Mcleod problem with the following GREP style:
    (?<=Mc)\l
    and then apply a character style which is nothing more than All Caps.
    similarly, i've been able to solve the D'Agostino = D'agostino problem:
    (?<=\u')\l
    and once again apply the All Caps style to the affected letter. This also solves the O'leary problem to O'Leary.
    However, when I try these GREPs to grab the Smith-bunting style issues:
    (?<=\u\l+?-)\l     or   (?<=\u\l{2,}-)\l
    the search won't work, nor will it work with regular Find/Change GREP replace... yet the expression \u\l+?-\l will find the block that i'm after.
    I could use the search
    (?<=\l-)\l
    and this will find Smith-bunting = Smith-Bunting... but will also find co-operate = co-Operate (will find two words joined with a dash but  starts with a lower case letter).
    This is fine if the para style is applied to the  line in the address block containing the client's name, but if the name is referred to in a block of text, then that block of text has to have the para style with the GREP style applied, and any dashes between words in that para behave the same way as the name.
    yes, it is possible to go into excel and use the =PROPER(affected cell) and fix the Smith-Bunting fields, but i'm trying to create a solution which will work solely in InDesign so that other operators in the office (who aren't familiar with excel) can simply open the standing file and dump in the txt database generated by the mail barcoding software.
    there are other names that the mail barcoding's title-case fouls up i.e.
    * MacLeod = Macleod
    * van der Graaf = Van Der Graaf
    * van Diemen = Van Diemen
    but a GREP to make Macleod become MacLeod may foul up Mack, Mackie or Macy to become MacK, MacKie or MacY.
    I also know that a GREP for the van der or van won't work as the style will only force letters to become All Caps, not uppercase to lower...
    Ultimately...
    does anyone know a way to GREP style (not a find/change GREP) a fix for Xxxxx-xxxxx = Xxxxx-Xxxxx?
    Colly
    Colecandoo.

    I agree with Haakenlid on his Dirty-Workaround view -- I feel data should be entered the way it oguht to, not altered by some magic GREP styling -- but then again I can also sympathize with your POV re: a fire-and-forget solution even your dumbest operator can't miss.
    Oh the rigors of life.
    If you are totally, absolutely certain you want to do this by GREP, use this:
    (a) Set a To Capitals character style to the string
    \b\u\l+\-\l
    -- this will magically transform "Hon. Lt. Sir John Forsythe Blunt-object" into "BLUNT-Object".
    (b) Then override ( ! ) the first half again with another character style that removes the To Capitals attribute ( ! ):
    \b\u\l+-(?=\l)
    Notice how this expression is exactly the same as the above one, except for the very last code -- the next lowercase must also be caught, but now using a lookahead so its formatting won't be affected.
    This removes the All Caps override from the first halve, changing it from "BLUNT-Object" back to "Blunt-Object".
    Lots of side effects, I'm sure. Perhaps it is safer to teach your operators to run a single script.

    Hi all,
    After running the script from indesign, I get following error

    My colleague found the problem. We were using extendables library and we still haven't figured out what was actually happening, but removing it solved the problem.

  • How do you get IDcs5 to open and display properly??

    Purchased InDesign CS5 and it worked well for the first few months then it decided not to open up properly onscreen? Now when opening all I ever get is a tiny portion of the tool bar appearing in the upper left corner of the screen. If I use the 'expand' button it only fills the screen with a completely blank page which is of no use. So I'm left to resort to manually clicking and dragging the toolbar to open the workspace to fill the screen......even then, it tends to 'snap back' to the tiny toolbar in the upper left corner? This is very annoying and frustrating to say the least! I'm working in a windows environment running Windows 7 if that makes any difference. I've searched but there appears to be no fix for this? Why does it not just open up on screen properly like every other program??? Why can't the folks at ADOBE fix this? The only reason I'm using this program is because one of our biggest clients insists on using InDesign, otherwise I'd dump it! Does anyone know the cause or fix for this? Sure would appreciate it! Thanks!

    @Peter – I cannot tell what's going on here, because I'm working on a Mac OSX 10.6.8.
    I've seen such a thing in InDesign CS4, but not in InDesign CS5.5 anymore.
    However, maybe it is possible to resize the main window by scripting its bounds.
    For that, one file must be opened and its window must be resized with JavaScript. At least on a Mac. Could be different on Windows, because some UI elements behave different from OS to OS.
    To get the right values for the bounds you could do the following:
    Start InDesign, maximize it manually, open a new document. You need not to save it.
    Then start the following line of code, that will read out the bounds of the window and present them as text in a "palette" type of window:
    #targetengine "session";
    //Get the bounds and convert them to a String object:
    var myMessageString = String(app.documents[0].windows[0].bounds);
    var w=new Window("palette","ReadOutBoundsOfWindow:");
    var e=w.add("edittext",[0,0,200,50],myMessageString,{multiline: true,scrolling:true});
    e.active = true;
    w.show();
    As a result you'll get a string of 4 numbers in a "palette" highlighted.
    Copy/paste the values together with separating commas to your text editor or the ESTK.
    Currently I'm on a MacBook Pro and the numbers I will get with that method are: 22,0,999,1680.
    The numbers will be different, depending on your screen size and resolution. They are values for pixels in the form: [top, left, bottom, right].
    Now you can close the palette.
    That was just the preparation for the following lines of code, that will set the bounds.
    Every time after you restarted InDesign, you could execute the following script (you can assign a keyboard shortcut to it):
    app.documents.add();
    //Exchange the values in the brackets with YOUR values you obtained with the other script.
    //Thiese values set the working window to a specific size [top, left, bottom, right]:
    app.documents[0].windows[0].bounds = [22,0,999,1680]; //Thiese are the values of my specific MacBook Pro.
    //Now we don't need the dummie document anymore. Close it:
    app.documents[0].close(SaveOptions.NO);
    Like I said, it's working on a Mac.
    Don't know if it will on MS Windows.

  • Renaming extracted Single windows IDcs5 documents using a windows CSV-file

    I'm not a scripter and I'm in need of a script that will rename extracted single pages using a column from a windows CSV-file to name each InDesign file accordingly. I have search the forums but all I can find is a Renaming extracted single pdf pages as in this post http://forums.adobe.com/message/4633533#4633533#4633533 I've been told that I could adjust such scripting but I don't know how. I will like to acomplish the same but Exporting single InDesing pages. Does anyone has a script that can be share on how to do such thing? Either through ID or using Bridge?

    The link highlighted in your post splits a large PDF into single page PDFs based on a csv/txt file within Acrobat - it isn't an InDesign Script.
    There is an indesign script you can try and it is written by Loic Aigon: go to http://www.loicaigon.com/en/pdf-exports-properly-named/ read the article and see if it is appropriate for you.
    There is another indesign script you can try but it is in german. See the adobe forum post http://forums.adobe.com/thread/1014766 for more information.
    Hope this helps

  • IDCS5 Mac - Massive memory leaks - Followup to previous discussion

    Hello Everyone:
       After some painful, tedious marching though the code on the Mac, I found something really, really strange.  The code seemed to be working fine, except when a couple of documents were added in the scan jobs.  I isolated one of the documents and removed each object on the page until I came across the object that, when scanned, caused InDesign to report the massive memory leaks.
       The object was a quarter-inch by quarter-inch overset text frame (that's .63 cm by .63 cm for those of you who are used to the more sensible metric system).  In the text frame was a single character, not normally visible when on the page.  According to the ASSERT dialog box that was thrown up on the screen when InDesign was shutting down, this little bitty object was the source of 104450 leaks amounting to between 38,000,000 abd 51,000,000 bytes in leaks.  Here's the code where the leaks must be coming from (and Dirk, I owe you a crow pie...as in I'm gonna have to eat crow...I use PMString for one small command in this snippet, but it seemed so much faster and simpler than what the examples in widestring.h were suggesting):
    //  TI is TextIndex, assigned from a call to IMultiColumnTextFrame::TextStart()
    //  TS is int32 assigned from a call to IMultiColumnTextFrame::TextSpan()
    WideString Text;
    TextIterator beginTextChunk(FrameTextModel,          TI );
    TextIterator endTextChunk(   FrameTextModel, (TS + TI));
    std::copy(beginTextChunk, endTextChunk, std::back_inserter(Text));
    PMString PMText(Text);
    std::string text = PMText.GetPlatformString();
    IdentifyNamesInText(text);
    This final function call could not have been the source of the problem because one of the steps I took in tracking down the problem was to put "return" as the first line in its implementation but the bug still occurred.

    Hi, I don't know if this is relevant or not, particularly since we're on Windows and the problem you're seeing is on Mac.
    One of our guys put in some code to workaround a problem which he encountered using std:;copy with TextIterators under VS2005 (so it would have been CS4)
    /// Alternative to using std::copy to workaround issues using std::copy and TextIterator's in VS2005
    inline void TextIteratorCopy( TextIterator& posBegin, TextIterator& posEnd, WideString& strDest )
        std::back_insert_iterator < WideString > posDest = std::back_inserter( strDest );
        for ( ; posBegin != posEnd; ++posDest, ++posBegin )
            *posDest = *posBegin;
    that said, it might not affect you on the Mac, it might no longer be an issue with CS5 either.

  • IDCS5 Win: Flowing text, revisited...

    I have found that my problem is that the code I am using to import tagged text is importing the text into a textbox that it creates rather than the pre-existing text box. Additionally, almost every example I have seen that comes with the SDK either deals with graphics or shows me how to load text into a textbox created by the load process (as opposed to a pre-existing textbox).
    Does anyone have a suggestion as to how I might load the tagged text into a text box that already exists?   There is a kPlaceItemInGraphicFrameCmdBoss.  Is there a text equivalent in the SDK?

    Hi John
    IStaticTextAttributes you can use to set the underline attribute (and other attributes) outside of your StaticTextView implementation.
    When you set that, then inside of your Draw method you can read what was set (GetDrawUnderline()) and apply that value in PMDrawStringRGB.
    So, you should respect assigned values to IStaticTextAttributes
    void CYOURTextWidgetView::Draw(IViewPort* vp, SysRgn sr)
         InterfacePtr<IStaticTextAttributes> ista(this, UseDefaultIID());
         int16 alignment = ista->GetAlignment();
         bool16 underline = ista->GetDrawUnderLine();
         PMDrawStringRGB(gc, bbox, alignment, str, fi, color, catu, cv, underline);

  • [JS IDCS5] changing geometricBounds

    When I change the geometricBounds of a frame (myFrame.geometricBounds = [0, 0, 100, 100]), the graphic within that frame is moving. I want to change these bounds, but the graphic inside has to stay at his position (x = 0, y = 0).
    Regards, Sjoerd

    Solution:
    save the geometricBounds of the frame
    resize Frame
    declare values of the saved geometricBounds
    move the inline graphic backwards with the declared values
    Example:
    var myBounds = mySelection[i].geometricBounds;
    mySelection[i].geometricBounds = ["0mm", "0mm", "130mm", "130mm"];
    var myX = myBounds[0];
    var myY = myBounds[1];
    mySelection[i].graphics[0].move(undefined, [-myY, -myX]);
