IDE 3 on KT4?!?!?

Hi!
It's late, I'm tired and I'm annoyed! Well, now that I got that out of the way, I can tell you calmly about my problem.  :D
I do not get the third IDE channel working, so I'm lacking two of my MP3-harddisks! What is this? Is there some secret BIOS setting I haven't found, or what? I installed the Raid-drivers, but even without them I think the BIOS should have discovered those drives. Am I right?
Oh yes, who in MSI decided that it's a good idea to send out a version of a new mainboard in 2002 without built in 100 LAN?!?!?  X(
Thanks a lot in advance!

The middle board the SR is named that because it has serial raid, but only the fisr model, the fully loaded version has all the goodies, including lan ,1394 firewire and gigabit lan There is also now a 4th version called ULTRA-B. MSI has made this very confusing as usual, by calling the boards one name on 1 site and something else on another. Check your MSI website to clear up anything about these boards. BIGDADDY51 CT. The fully loaded board is also called KT4ULTRA-BSR EDIT: I just realized that the description NOW states support for the 2600 XP!!!This was not in the description as little as 1 week ago.I really wanted this board bad, So I ordered it as soon as it showed up on pricewatch, only to be told that the shipment was delayed until the 3rd week of Sept. This could be why.I really want the loaded version but ,so far , no one is even listing it. I imagine that this board will be around $160-180, as the KT4 series ASUS sells for about that.

Any Ideas?

my kt4 runs ok with xms3200c2 although i did just buy another stick from http://www.scan.co.uk advertised as cas2 ,it had no corsair stickers so i used aida32 / astra to identify it ,it was not cas2 it was just xms3200 ( older stock) ...also you may wanna try the corsair forum ,supported by corsair themselfs ...very helpful

  • Secondary IDE slows down SATA on KT4

I have two SATA drives as a striped array on the RAID controller of my KT4 ultra.
    Also:
DVD ROM as master on primary IDE
DVD writer as master on secondary IDE
Windows XP takes about 5 minutes to boot unless I disable the secondary IDE in the BIOS. Then it takes seconds to boot.
I swapped the DVD and writer but it's the same.
I just get the XP logo hanging there for ages.
All devices show OK in device manager, and work fine. I have done a fresh XP install with lates drivers.
Should I put both on the primary??

I have not tried both on the same cable as they worked when I had a normal hard drive on IDE0.
I thought the rule was always to put them on a differant IDE channel if poss.
Any other thoughts, as I did not want to have both on same channel.

  • KT4-Ultra IDE Problem

i've been running a kt4-ulta with barton 2500+ which most of the time runs fine but every now and again the comp doesn't boot "primary master boot fail" so when i go into the bios the hard drive has the name muddled up (instead of "maxtor" it has something like "atxmor") the only way i can seem to fix this is by clearing the cmos but im now getting a bit sick of re-doing all my settings. i was wondering if this is a common fault or my board is f***ed.
    any help would be great

  • Kt4 6590 SATA to IDE Adapter problem

kt4 6590 m/b, i bought a SATA to IDE Adapter plugged it into ide channel 2 to use a seagate db35.3 sata drive as a slave
the drive is not seen in bios or in device manager, and no scsi in bios either, can only see my main c: drive and the save i have attached to same cable, they run fine, but xp pro cannot see the sata drive what so ever.
only drives in device are my normal ide ones, no yellow question marks nothing. is there something else in the bios
i need to set? or is this m/b so old  it will never see the drive

Guess the SATA port has to be active. Is it enabled in BIOS? Don't remember, is this one of the cases where you RAID the single disk, and let those drivers handle the SATA? Promise drivers. http://www.msi.com/index.php?func=downloaddetail&type=driver&maincat_no=1&prod_no=502
    From the manual:
    Hard Disk RAID Connectors: IDE3, SER1 & SER2 (Optional)
The mainboard has 3 IDE RAID connectors, which are controlled by
    Promise 20376.
IDE3 is a 32-bit Enhanced PCI IDE and Ultra DMA 66/100/133 controller
that provides PIO mode 0~5, Bus Master, and Ultra DMA 66/100/133
function. You can connect to one hard disk drive.
The mainboard also provides optional dual high-speed Serial ATA interface
ports, SER1 & SER2. Each supports 1st generation serial ATA data
rates of 150 MB/s. Both connectors are fully compliant with Serial ATA 1.0
specifications. Each Serial ATA connector can connect to 1 hard disk device.
Please refer to Serial ATA Raid manual for detail software installation
    procedure.

  • KT4 : IDE problems

    Hi there,
I have bought a KT4 Ultra (6712, I believe) on friday. Everything was fine except that after 3-4 hours my OS (WinXP, no SP) froze and the bios wouldn't detect my hard drives plugged on IDE1 after that. I let the system cool down and a few hours later, the bios discovered my drives without any problem. The OS was completely screwed up so I decided to restore a Ghost image of my system partition. The fact is during the restore (made from a Norton DOS program installed on a bootable floppy), the program froze and when I rebooted the whole thing, the bios didn't find my drives again !
So from that moment, the things go that way : either the bios detects my disks plugged on IDE1 and the system freezes after a random amount of time, either it does not detect anything. My hard drives seem OK and work on my old motherboard (ABIT KT7A with Athlon T-Bird 1 GHz). The CD player plugged on IDE2 works fine and is detected every time.
More about the problem : there's a slight beep sound that seems to come from the motherboard when the bios does not detect  the disks. It does not come from the PC speaker and I have no idea what it is, it's kinda weird.
    My system :
    MSI KT4 Ultra (6712)
    Athlon XP 2000+
    512 DDR RAM
    300W power supply
60 GB IBM hard drive (master, IDE1)
15 GB Seagate hard drive (slave, IDE1)
    Memorex MAXX1240 CD player (IDE2)
...other PCI/AGP cards and USB peripherals (I can post them if you need, it's just that I'm not sure it will help )
Anyway, if anyone can help, it would be greatly appreciated Thanks.

Yup, but my system must find my disks first and I have to boot too :D
Anyway, I didn't have much time this week-end to look deeper for these problems ; I'll try to flash the BIOS tonight. Is there any web page that describes how to flash the BIOS correctly ? If it's in the manual, I'll read it tonight but since I'm definitely not an expert (or even an advanced user) with these things, I would like to take the minimum risks in order to avoid to make the whole system unusable
Anyway, thank you both for your support and suggestions

  • KT4-V IDE Perfomances?

Hi, i want to know if there is no new problems with the new bios 1.8.
Is the IDE performance better than in the bios version 1.7?
    Thanks

The IDE performance of my KT4-V is rather weird: I have 2 HDDs attached to the single channel and the transfer of 500MB file from the slave (WD100BB) to the master (Seag. Bar.ATA IV) takes from 15-17 sec (CPU halt on = about 10 more sec). However, the transfer of the same file between two parttions on the master takes more than a minute, sometimes even up to 1min 45sec (CPU halt enabled)... Both HDDs are nearly empty and defragmented.
I use BIOS 1.8, WIN-XP and W2K, both tweaked to the max.

  • KT4 Ultra 3rd IDE channel

There isnt much info in the manual nor can i find what i need on the net.
Can this 3rd channel support a single plain old EIDE hard drive?  If so...what do i have to do to get this puppy to work?
The drive in question is an 80gig Western Digital
Thanks for any help you can offer

    yeah...i seen that
how ever even after installing the promise drivers the OS wont recognize the drive as an IDE...it says it can see a SCSI but it cant read it.
    Thanks for the reply though

  • KT4 Ultra and IDE 3

I have (1) HDD on IDE 1, (1) DVD(master) and DVD-RW(slave) on IDE 2.  Is it possible to set up IDE 3 to be used, not as RAID, so that I can put one of the DVD drives on IDE 3.  The manual really doesn't get into that much.  And, is it even worth doing that, performance-wise?
    Thanks,
    Bob

    Hi Bob M,
Basically, you can't install any ATAPI devices such as DVD-ROM, DVD-RW, CD-ROM, etc on either of the RAID channels. The Promise onboard controller does not support them, only IDE devices which means Hard Drives only.
You can connect HDD's to IDE3 & 4 as stand alone HDD's, not RAID and they will default to RAID 0 devices independent of each other so long as you don't set them up as an array. To set them up as RAID drives you can only install one drive each to each connector as a Master device and then setup the preferred array type in the RAID BIOS setup after you boot the computer.
The RAID book that comes with the m'board explains all the necessary steps pretty clearly. All the best,
    Cheerio,
    Dimal.

  • IDE 3 with MSI KT4 Ultra

    Hello!!
How do I get the Promise Controler Fast Track 376 on my Board to work?
I tried to connect both of my HDD´s (not at same time!!) but he will not recognice them!! After POST it says no drives detected, or Bios ist not installed (or something like that!!!)
I just need an explicit How To, because the tips and how to´s in other Boards haven´t worked!! I haven´t tried any Bios modifications or so!! The Mobo Bios ver. number is 1,4!!
I had no probs with that Highpoint Controller! What is so different with the Promise Controller!!
Sorry for my bad english! I am from Germany! .-)

    Hello!!
The Raid Controller is enabled in BIOS
The Jumper Settings are correct (As displayed on HDD!)
The drives are working currently on IDE 1 without probs! (No PSU - 420 W - probs!!)
I can only try to use SATA to PATA Converter next!!?? or?
Thanks to everybody for helping me!!

  • IDE Configuration KT4 Ultra

I currently have one HD on IDE 1, DVD(master) and DVD-RW(slave) on IDE 2.
Can I use IDE 3 to control one of the drives so that I don't need to slave anything, and is it even worth the effort with regard to performance?  I can't find anything in the manusl relating to using IDE 3 other than RAID.
    Thanks,
    Bob

you can do it with one drive only, see article in bottom forum, however i would use normal ide and disable raid in bios myself to save boot time

  • Problem with KT4 and 200Gb Drive or is it?

     :(
    Help!
Hi, I just got this board KT4 Ultra and am having a problem, not sure what it's related to though
The MB picks up the new drive I bought (Maxtor IDE ATA-133 200Gb 7200RPM 8Mb Cache DiamondMax Plus9) fine no problem, but when I come to install WinXP it constantly tells me that it's a 130Gb drive?!?!?!
    Anyone, any ideas?
    Thanx
    Vev

Here is something similar to the issue you are having.
I seen it on the Maxtor site.

  • Follow up to 1.3 BIOS on KT4 Ultra

    Cured my two problems
    1) Extra mouse pointer in games
    2) Stuttering in games
    How?
By going back to BIOS 1.2
Can only assume that BIOS 1.3 was rushed out without sufficient testing. It MAY fix IDE transfer problems, but on my system which is SCSI anyway it introduced the two problems above.
Definately starting to wonder if I should go back to Abit, this is my first MSI board, and probably my last, the way things are going.
    KT4 Ultra
    XP2600+ 333fsb
512mb Corsair XMS DDR 400 running at 333
    Adaptec U160 SCSI
    SB Audigy

BIOS 1.25 is a BETA BIOS, meaning it's unsupported by MSI. AFAIK, it might fix the Optical mouse LED stays ON even PC has powered off.
For those have PS/2 Optical mouse, please test this beta BIOS against this issue.

  • UNMOUNTABLE_BOOT_VOLUME KT4 Ultra MS-6590

I have been get this UNMOUNTABLE_BOOT_VOLUME error all day. I been try to install XP Pro but it alway does this after I begin the install progress.
I have done fdisk, Partition Magic format, windows install format, and format but I keep get this error. I thought that it was was the hard drive but I try install XP on my ASUS K7V mobo and it work without a prob.
The reason I reinstall is to turn off the APIC and APCI so I can stop the infinite loop error I been getting. I have restore the default setting and still doesn't work.

I loaded the recovery console from the XP CD and wrote a new one on there. Then the system loaded perfectly. No problems since.
    Hope this may help
