IDE controller help!!!!!!

Hi folks,
Can anyone point me in the direction of a SIS PCI IDE controller fro my 745 ultra MOBO?
Thanks
Quade

I know of no discrete PCI IDE Controller IC made by SIS for add-in PCI cards.
A few major names in IDE Controller cards are Highpoint, Promise Technology, and SIIG.

  • Major issues with nforce3 250GB IDE controller: help needed

I am currently facing the following issues with the IDE controller of the Nforce3 250GB:
    1.   On random occasions, the PC hangs on the BIOS boot logo (Platinum) and fails to detect the IDE drives.
    2.   In most of the above cases, one of the PATA drives (generally the Seagate ST340016A) is not detected.
    3.   Sometimes, the PC shows a faded ‘Windows XP’ boot logo and gets stuck there.
    4.   Occasionally, the PC boots successfully into Windows but runs slower than a 386 (All IDE read/write operations take an eternity to complete)
I have thoroughly checked all the drives using Seagate SEATOOLS and Samsung HUTIL (done a complete surface scan and IDE cable checks) and found no errors.
All the drives are configured using the ‘Cable select’ option on their respective jumper terminals.
Here is a short summary of the drives:
Samsung SP0802N (boot drive), PATA primary master (Cable select)
Seagate ST340016A PATA primary slave (Cable select)
Seagate SATA drive with 2MB cache (shall update model number soon)
    Optical drives:
Asus CD writer Secondary master, cable select
Asus DVD Rom secondary slave cable select
--Total 4 PATA devices, 1 SATA device NO RAID
All the drives have been checked thoroughly. They are working fine. However, the motherboard fails to detect them on random occasions.
I have tried resetting the CMOS.
    Configuration:
    Athlon 64 3000+ E6 core with SSE3 support
    MSI K8N Neo2-FX BIOS 1.C

    Hi,
I am back here after a long long time    Now a days, I run a Intel 965P based Core 2 Duo as my primary desktop. I still use my AMD64 platform and I did fix all the issues with it!
Sorry, I didn't update this thread earlier with the details of how I had solved those issues...
Well, initially I could not get my Radeon 9600XT to work on the nforce 3. I dirched it and got a 7600GT and that solved the GFX crashes..
The HDD problem (the one that I described in this thread) was fixed by:
    1. Using the SATA ports 3 & 4 instead of SATA1 & 2!!!
Apparently, the issue of the cyclic reboot & the faded XP logo crash during reboot happens with a lot of Nforce 3 250 owners.
Using the other set of SATA ports fixes this for good...
I also replaced the 40GB Seagate ... But that wasn't the cause of this issue, because the cyclic reboot recurred with the remaining HDDs when SATA1 & 2 were in use...
Motherboards are really quirky, I admit

  • IDE Controller broken?

    Hey folks,
I've posted before and had received very good advice, so I'd like to pick your brains one more time.
I recently purchased a semi-working MDD 2003 model (I'm fairly sure.) with all stock parts and two third party ram sticks.
The seller explained the problem in the e-mail he sent me:
"The machine was working perfectly up until a few days ago after I had installed a 2nd hard drive for the purposes of recovering it's contents, and then removed that drive.
The initial problem started with a kernel panic, and then ended up in the machine not being able to complete a boot (starts up ok but ends always in the Prohibit/Stop sign). I cannot boot from either the HD or the CD-Rom - I can however, boot the drive in Target Disk mode, and verified the HD is in good working order via Disk Warrior and Disk Utility.
At this point, the HD is blown clean to attempt a force start from the system folder on the CD-Rom, but no luck.
Apple thinks it is possibly a faulty IDE controller, or something that got reset incorrectly in terms of the bus chain."
Now I'm pretty sure that I can bypass the logicboard IDE's with a PCI controller and just run the system like that, but that's only if it is faulty IDE controllers. If it's got something to do with the bus chain, well then I'm lost. Regardless, I attempted to start the system using an old hard drive of mine that already has OSX.
The HD was placed in the rear sled first as a master drive, ribbon cable was double checked then system booted up. Well the grey screen and apple appear, along with the spinning cart wheel and this goes on for several minutes. Then the apple is replaced by the white circle with a bar through it, the "prohibit sign". So I then switched ribbons with the one in front, and got the same thing. This process was then done over using the front HD sled, still to no avail. I guess I could possibly avoid all of this by buying a PCI controller or just replacing the logicboard, but I'm trying to avoid those two options right now if possible.
Has anyone ever seen anything like this? Can this even be resolved? I know there are posts about bad IDE controllers, but they really didn't help much. I did a search and ended up getting quotes from the same three or four posts, so I'm pretty much up for anything as this is getting beyond me.

Actually I didn't use the HD that came with the
computer, I replaced it with one of my own, which has
    OSX installed.
Ah....that actually may be the source of the problem, depending on what machine your drive came from.
Sometimes you can get away with it, as I did when I moved drives from a single 867 to a dual 1.42.
    But...
It is possible your machines are too different, and the lower level things required to startup the system do not exist on the installation on your drive.
At this point I think that getting a pci controller
card to see if it works is easiest.
If my preceeding statement is true, then it is likely that will not work, either.
    Thank you though.

  • KEC 7002 IDE Controller card

Yes i have windows 7 with a DC7800 CMT and i put in a IDE controller card The IDE Controller card..i put it in my PCI slot and hooked up the ide card to the card and my hard drive and put the 4 pin power cord into the hard drive..i know the hard drive is getting power but it is not showing up in the hard drive secotion of my computer..i have the jumper set to slave since i have a main SATA hard drive as the main hard drive..im using the IDE as a slave for more space..anyone can help that would be great! Thanks

Why IDE hard drive would be my first question, but your needs might outweigh me asking. There is no Master with SATA. A single EIDE/IDE drive is a Master on the cabling. Here is a link to the proper master/slave issue and the location of such drives on the cabling.

Is there any method how to get Solaris 8 installed on Disk 3?
Thank you very much for your help!

    Hello Michael,
    thanks for the information.
There is no support for the Promise Ultra 133 IDE controller listed.
Also, searching the internet for a private developed driver was not
    successful.
Anyway, I have tried to make a test installation on a hard disk
connected to the primary IDE controller and I detected a lot of
further installation problems with my equipments because of
missing or not properly identified drivers.
So I think I have to make further investigations on concepts
how to get Solaris 8 run in the best way.
    Thanks again for your help,

  • Problems with the IDE controller

I have a Macbook from 2008, I bought it in November 2008 so it is quite an old model I guess.
I've never had a problem with it before and I have both Leopard and a Windows partition. The thing is that the other day I ran an antivirus at my Windows XP partition and now it doesn't detect the IDE controller. At the device manager I get a yellow exclamation mark and when I try to install it says that it doesn't exist. The thing is that I know that I had two devices for that but now there's only one and with the exclamation mark.
Since that happened, the webcam doesn't work properly and the USB ports don't work properly as well, I need to keep restarting the computer to make them work. I don't know what to do since I don't have the Windows XP CD anymore and it's been like years without a problem til now and I'm so so worried since I have to switch OS from time to time because of my job.
Can you please help me? If you need more info I will provide but please help...

Yes it shows up in the bios and in the device manager in xp pro.
No I didnt check for a bent pin on the board but I will and let you know.
No it just started one day taking along time to access disk then i started getting bad block messages,
then I changed the drive and still the same thing ,the changed the drive again and again and the cables two times
and still the same thing.I dont know why I didnt think of checking the board for a bent pin,but I thank you
    for the idea.

  • ASUS P5W DH Deluxe kernel panic ACPI & IDE controller is

I recently built a new system with the ASUS P5W DH Deluxe motherboard.  Using the newISOs (both the new kernel and old) available on the forums I tried to install Arch only to be met with an extremely nondescript kernel panic (just a bunch of numbers followed by kernel panic).  After a bit of fiddling with it I managed to get the system to boot to the installation shell by giving it the "acpi=off" boot parameter.
After figuring this out I thought I was set, but I was so very wrong.  The IDE harddrive I was trying to install to was on the Jmicron JMB363 IDE controller that seems to have been hacked together and thrown in at the last second to allow 4 IDE devices in the system (something to do with the Intel specification for the 975X chipset I believe.)
Anyway, the system mounts my primary SATA harddrive "sda" just fine.  It then proceeds to load my two PATA DVD+RW drives: "hda" and "hdb" from the intel IDE controller just fine.  Then while trying to load the my PATA harddrive "hde" from the Jmicron JMB363 IDE controller, the installation slows to a crawl requiring several minutes before the system boots and throwing errors along the way.  The harddrive is also unusable in the system.  If I try to do something like "cfdisk /dev/hde" the system will hard lock and require a reboot.
Is there something I've configured incorrectly or is this perhaps a support issue with the Jmicron JMB363 controller.  Also, why do I need to turn ACPI off to avoid a kernel panic?  I should probably mention that there is a bios option that can be turned on or off to support ACPI 2.0 (disabled by default).
    Thanks for any input!

I'm running archlinux on a P5W DH Deluxe.  Personally, I disabled JMicron in the BIOS as the drivers for it are pretty buggy from what I've read.  I'm just using the ICHR PATA/SATA Controller (I have an SATA disk and a PATA DVDRW).  I have it set to AHCI mode in the BIOS (this is the most compatible mode and faster for sata drives).  It might look like it's frozen during boot, but there is a device that causes problems and takes a minute or so for the kernel to give up on it and continue booting.
If you want to use the JMicron controller, there is a flag you can pass to the kernel in your grub menu.conf (I think it's "ALL-GENERIC-IDE" (no quotes) and you might have to pass "irqpoll" as well.  I got it working once but haven't used it for a while, so this may have changed.  You might want to look into JMICRON_PATA.
There are some issues with the linux kernel and the P5W.
The bridge between the ICHR to the EZRaid controller isn't recognized by the kernel yet, so it will give some error messages and with a few 30 second pauses between them (which is a pain... I don't know of a way to disable the controller though).  I've heard that if you attach a SATA hard disks to BOTH the EZRaid controller and the ICHR it's supposed to avoid it, but I don't want to install an extra hard disk.
The kernel seems to have have problems keeping time with the P5W.  I tried installing openntpd to help with it, but it only help a little... moving the clock by about 10 seconds every couple of minutes.  I found ntpd does a little better job (altering it by about 1 second every 5-10 minutes).  I think this is the cause of some glitches during video playback for me.
I haven't had any luck getting any kind of suspend working with the P5W.  It can suspend, but it won't resume.  Resetting the computer after a suspend makes it freeze just before you can access the BIOS screen.  The only way to recover is to turn-off the power supply on the back for a minute or so and starting it up.  It will run for a few seconds and shutdown (some kind of weird hardware reset?).  After that it will boot normally.
Let me know how your progress goes.  I'd like to know if you come across any fixes for the above.

  • K9vgm-v problem with pci ide controller card

My problem is with a promise ultra100 tx2 pci ide controller card that I got with a western digital hard drive a year or 2 back. I can plug the card in with no hard drives attached to it, boot into windows, update the drivers, etc. but when I plug either of my hard drives into the card, it goes to a black screen directly after the screen the promise controller brings up after the main msi bios screen.
It's my understanding that this problem is caused because the ide controller card can't inject its bios into the option rom of the motherboard. I've tried disabling as many other features that I can in the bios to clear up some space in the option rom, but so far no luck. I made sure I have the latest MSI bios, but I am 1 or 2 revisions behind on the promise controller card bios, because I don't have a floppy drive and I can't get any bootable cds to work.
If need be, I can get a new ide controller card, but I would rather not, because this one works just fine, and I am pretty short on cash. I am also worried that this same problem will happen with other controller cards that I pick up. Any advice on how to get this thing working?
P.S. - is there any way to get this board to boot from a USB key? My only options in the bios for booting to USB are USB-FDD, USB-ZIP, and USB-CDROM.

Check the exact version. Latest version is 1.6, if there is an conflict that raid card unable to register property like(No enough Space to copy PCI Option ROM or similar)  a new bios can help.

  • Promise IDE Controller

Does anyone know how to configure the BIOS to use the Promise IDE controller to add an additional hard drive? I am not trying to set up a RAID array, I am simply trying to add another hard drive to my system using the IDE3 connector.
    Thanks in advance...  :(

    Pete M -
Thanks for the info, I think I am almost there.
I followed your suggestions, and in Windows 2002 device manager now sees the drive. It is labeled:
    WDC WD1200JB-00CRA1 SCSI Disk Device
(although it is an IDE device)
However, Windows does not assign a drive letter to it, and it does not appear in "My Computer"...

Which OS X is installed on your Mac ?
Click the Apple () menu top left in your screen. From the drop down menu click About This Mac. The version is noted there.
Troubleshooting advice can depend on that information.

I upgrades my iPAD  3 to iOS6 and now I can't open my Safari RSS bookmarks.  Any ideas to help?

I've installed 3 different RSS readers and none of them "grab" the default flag for RSS feeds.
I've also uninstalled the Podcasts.app, then re-installed a couple of the readers and Safari still has no idea what to do with them.
What's most annoying is that Safari declares it doesn't know what to do with a feed and offers to load the iTunes Store so I can pick an RSS Reader to install, and then the iTunes app declares it can't connect to the store (even when I'm already on the store or downloading an application at the time).
And yeah, I've tried the fixes for the cannot connect errors (Date/Time flip, reinstall bought app, setting DNS to Google even though it was already fine, and clearing Safari's cache just in case).
    This is absolutely pathetic.

  • A Series of Unfortunate Events - Any Ideas and help appreciated!

Four weeks ago, when performing some routine backups, I started to get error messages. Upon further research, I discovered my internal HD (Macintosh HD), was reporting an imminint failure. I started to use my external backup as my main HD until I could replace the internal. LIfe happened for a couple of weeks before I obtained a replacement HD, on a Thursday. Friday I would replace the internal HD and restore from the backup. Unfortunately, my backup HD refused to mount Friday, scuttling that plan.
First, I needed to diagnose the external HD. Both a local dealer and the manufacturer reported, after I described the problem and a diagnosis, that it was likely the power supply that was at fault. The company would send me a replacement at no cost. The problem is, the power supply was out of stock and I would have to wait a few weeks.
So I revert back to the internal HD, the one that has been reporting a imminent failure for a few weeks. Not wanting to work on a HD that might fail at any time, I made additional copies to CD/DVD of anything important, and installed the new HD. However, when I inserted the OS X install DVD disks, it would kick them out after about a minute. The internal SuperDrive has been rather sporadic for the last few years. Sometimes it works, usually it doesn't. So I do most things using CD's or DVD's on an external Firewire DVD drive. However, my understanding is that I can use the install DVD's only in the internal SuperDrive. They will not work in an external DVD drive.
So in one last attempt to get things working, I decided to use my iPod as an external drive. Since I obviously couldn't copy 65G of data onto a 20G iPod, (2nd generation), I needed to copy only crucial information. Obviously a boot disk does not need my photos or music, or most applications, so they were not included. Anything related to printers I don't own were also canned. Anything I wasn't sure about I kept. I finally got a bootable image onto the iPod, or so I thought.
I go into startup disk in system preferences, choose the iPod, and restart. I tried it a couple of times. Each time I would get the infamous "kernel panic". No doubt something important was missing.
    So my questions:
    1. Is it possible to install the OS from disks using an external FW disk drive? Or must I use the internal SuperDrive?
    2. Is it possible to use the OS X install disks to make a bootable copy on an iPod? How is this done?
    3. Is there a definitive guide, when using a program like Carbon Copy Cloner (or another) on exactly what needs to be copied to create a working boot copy? Or is this trial and error? Is it even possible to create a boot disk on a 2nd generation iPod?
Any ideas or help is most welcome!!!

To diagnose your issues and suggest solutions, it is essential to know what model of Mini your have: G4 (2 usb ports); older Intel (4 usb ports); 2009 Intel (5 usb ports). Regarding the install discs: they must be from the same model as your Mini.
I agree with tm311 ... life is telling you to get a newer Mac. These apple refurbs, which come with current OSX, ilife, and warranty are good values:
