Idea for new area of ITunes Library

I don't know if this has been suggested before, but I wanted to submit a suggestion for the future.
I have all kinds of audio files on my ipod including music and audiobooks and it's not too difficult to understand the difference, but aside from audiobooks, I have quite alot of recordings from live talks, seminars, conventions and public meetings which I listen to for traning and also work related, and I would like an another area to store these.
I saw recently "Ringtones" was added to ITunes, I'd like to propose the idea to have a section for "Live Recordings" or "Training Media"
Are there others like me who would like to see this?

If you go to Edit - Preferences - General, you can add Audiobooks to your choice on the main scren; however, I agree that these ought to be editable so you can use what you want

How to prevent iTunes for Windows from "Updating iTunes Library"?
My library is on a NAS and managed by iTunes on a Mac. I can connect from wife's Windows laptop using iTunes for Windows but every time I do, it Updates iTunes Library. Next time I log in from my Mac it Updates iTunes Library in return. It appears I'm experiencing "Update Wars" between the Mac and Windows versions of iTunes. I would like to allow my wife to stream iTunes songs to her new laptop but I don't want any updates from this source... prefer to manage the library from my Mac and not allow Windows to do any thing other than listen to existing playlists.
    Thanks for any help/suggestions.

Connect the PC to the library on the NAS. Wait while "updated".
Under Edit > Preferences > Advanced make sure the media folder is correctly pointed at the media folder on the NAS. If not correct, close iTunes, wait a few moments, then open iTunes again.
Close iTunes on the PC. Do not open iTunes on the Mac.
Copy the library files, iTunes Library.itl, iTunes Library Extras.itdb, iTunes Library Genius.itdb, sentinel and the folder Album Artwork into an empty iTunes folder on the PC, for example C:\iTunes.
Click the icon to start iTunes and immediately press and hold down SHIFT. Keep holding until prompted to choose or create a library. Click choose and browse to the copied .itl file, e.g. C:\iTunes\iTunes Library.itl
The library should now work properly on the PC, however check the setting for the media folder. If needs be correct, close iTunes and reopen.
Open iTunes on the Mac. It will update again, but that should be last time.

You don't need to delete anything from your phone or you old computer.
Copy the entire /Music/iTunes/ folder from old computer or backup to /Music/ on new computer.
If you cannot use the old computer or don't have a backup...
-> Recovering your iTunes library from your iPod or iOS device
Then immediately make a backup of your new computer.
Get an external drive and plug it in and use -> Time Machine

Have you looked at the settings in iTunes.  Is music syncing manual or automatic.  More info please.  I would try removing all restrictions as an initial test.

hi i had the same problem today when i updated my itunes to latest version. however, i have just found my songs in the 'itunes media' folder. this was accessed through 'my music'  then keep clicking through until you find itunes media and all my library songs were in there and i then just added these files to my library and all were restored however, i have lost all my playlists but at least my 700 songs are back. very dissapointed with apple that they have let this happen with their latest update, the previous version was miles better than this one . hope you find them. stevo

    Welcome to the Apple Community.
Websites and third party Apps need enabling before they will allow AirPlay of Video content. Some Website/App developers have not enabled their products, some simply haven't got around to it yet, others have stated that they won't be enabling AirPlay (likely as a result of licensing issues).
I have created a User Tip to list Apps that have been tested with Video Airplay, if you have any Apps that you have tested please leave details in the comments at the bottom of the User Tip or email me if you don't have commenting privileges.

How do I view the computers I have authorized for access to my Itunes library?I do not want to do a blanket deauthorization. I want to asee what I have authorized.

As far as I am aware, there is no way to do this.  You have to de-authorize them individually from the computer you want to de-authorize, or de-authorize all and authorize just the ones you need.

  • HT1660 I am new to itunes and have no idea how to create an itunes library to down load to my ipod shuffle?

    Can anyone help?

Might have helped if you had mentioned what you have managed to do so far.
    Have you:
Read any of the basic "I've just bought an iPod" instructions yet?
    Installed iTunes on your computer?
Added any music to your iTunes Library? If not, how do you intend to obtain your music, is it from your CDs, or are you buying music, either from the iTunes Store or from any other MP3 retailer?
Do you already have any music on your computer, and if so, what format is it in? Are they MP3 files?
    for starters...

  • Using an old iPod as storage for part of my iTunes Library.

I have an old 4th Gen iPod (40gb) that needs a new battery, which I plan to have repaired. I know that i can use the iPod as a hard drive, however, as my iTunes Library has grown to a huge size (pushing 63Gb), it is taking up rather more of my MacBook Pro's Hard disk space, than I would like.
My question is this; Is there a way that I can store part of my iTunes music on the iPod and the rest on the Macbook Pro? Then, when i needed the full library, I would simply plug in my iPod/Hard drive. Is this possible? and also, would it be as straight forward as plugging in the iPod and launching iTunes?
    Hope you can advise me.
    Cheers

" I know that PCs don't recognise Mac stuff but, and correct me if I'm wrong, I remember something about Macs recognising PC stuff??"
An iPod formatted for Mac it won't run natively on a PC because the Windows OS does not support the HFS Plus file system and therefore will not see the drive. There are third party helper programs to overcome that, however Macs can read Windows formatted drives so you should be able to use your old iPod as a straightforward removable drive without any problem.

  • How to tell which items are in iTunes library on disc but not in program library?

I made a mistake the other night and I deleted some items from my iTunes library ... but NOT from disc.
These items are still in my 65 gig iTunes library on disc.  Somewhere.
I'd like to re-add these songs.  Is there any way to tell which songs in the iTunes library on disc are not in the iTunes program library?
I don't want to have to add all 65 gigs again and then remove all the duplicates
    thanks!

You should try dragging some files already in the library into iTunes to see what happens. I just did, and the new iTunes 10.6 seems to be ignoring them. I then made a copy of a file already in the library, and I added both it and the original by dragging and dropping. Only the new file was added. There was no warning about duplicates in either test. So you may be able to drag your whole library back into iTunes.
For when you do want to determine what files on disk aren't in the iTunes library or vice versa, here's one way to do it (if there's an easier way, I'm all ears):
Export your library as a playlist to a text file.
Use a program that can recursively list all your files on disk as full paths and save its output to a text file.
Load the into a decent text editor. I use Notepad++. Then use a regexp search/replace to tidy up the files so that both consist of one fully qualified filename per line.
    Sort the files.
Diff the files and examine the differences.
    I can do both 4 and 5 in Notepad++.

  • Can I sync my iPhone library to be my new computer's iTunes library?

I just got my laptop fixed. (Compaq with Windows Vista)
And everything erased, and I have no back up (Well I did, but that isn't working for some reason)
I still have my music on my iPhone, but what is there a way I can shift whatever I have on there, to become my new iTunes library on my laptop?

Sorry but the iPhone is not a backup device. In general all the music on the phone will be erased if you try to sync with another computer (or same one that has been reinstalled thus new to iPhone).
With that said, this question is asked daily so I am surprised you didn't find the answer already (you did search before asking right?)
Anyhow, if you connect, and DO NOT SYNC, and then choose "Transfer Purchased Content" from the File Menu, it will take off some stuff. Mainly anything you really bought from iTunes. It will NOT take off anything you obtained by other means as it cannot prove you own it.
You may want to actually search though as there are more options you can work with to try to get more off (3rd party tools) and also important information about how not to lose your contacts. I am assuming you never searched and why I am suggesting you do because it is asked daily multiple times.

  • Add New Files To iTunes Library

Is it possible to set up a folder in the finder so that when new audio files are placed inside (either copied, created or downloaded), they will automaticly be added to the iTunes library? Is there a folder action or applescript I'm missing or something? Or another way?
    Thanks in advance.

I've created a folder action for a folder (called it 'iTunes dropbox') on the desktop to do so.
This is how I've set it up:
    • Create a new folder (on the desktop or whatever location)
    • Run Automator
    • Select 'Finder' in the Library (left) pane, then select 'Get Specified Finder Items' from the Action (middle) pane and drag it to the right pane.
    • Select 'iTunes' in the Library, select 'Add Files to Playlist' and drag it below the 'Get Specified Finder Items' action in the right pane.
You can choose to add the file to the Library only, or also to an existing or new playlist.
    • To save this workflow as an folder action, choose 'Save As Plug-in...' from the file menu.
    • Choose an appropriate name (e.g. 'tunetolib').
    • At 'Plug-in for:', choose 'Folder Actions'
    • At 'Attached to Folder:', choose 'Other...' and navigate to the folder you created before.
    • If you did not enable folder actions already, tick a checkbox that says so. If you already enabled it, you won't see this option.
    • Click 'Save'
Now it's time to test the 'dropbox'.
Just drop an AAC, Apple Lossless, AIFF, WAV or mp3 file in the folder and if the exact file does not already exist in iTunes, it will be (should be) added to the library.
    Hope this helps.

  • Sync only new music from itunes library

Does anyone know how to sync only NEW music from the itunes library to the iphone? I am following the basic help instructions and if I select certain songs, albums, playlists, etc. then it syncs ONLY those that I check. i.e. none of the music that was already on the iphone is there anymore. It's almost as if every time I sync the iphone I have to check ALL music that I want to be sync'd. And that's including music that was already on the iphone. How do I sync ONLY NEW songs from my itunes library, without losing what's on it beforehand?

i want to know if i can simply 8 songs to my iphone without changing the status of the existing songs on the phone.
Yes, which I've already answered, but I guess I haven't provided the answer in a clear enough manner.
How are you adding songs to your iPhone now?
Are you syncing all songs and playlists or selected playlists?
Do you have sync only checked songs and videos selected under the Summary tab for your iPhone sync preferences?
These are the settings I'm using:
Sync only checked songs and videos under the Summary tab for my iPhone sync preferences.
Under the Music tab for my iPhone sync preferences, I have sync selected playlists selected.
I created a playlist with iTunes named iPhone. I have my iPhone playlist selected to be synced or transferred to my iPhone - along with a few other playlists.
I add the songs from my iTunes library to my iPhone playlist that I want available on my iPhone.
If I want to add 10 additional songs to my iPhone that are not currently on my iPhone, I add the 10 songs to the iPhone playlist. When syncing, the 10 new songs added to the iPhone playlist are transferred to my iPhone only with no songs removed from my iPhone. If I want to remove 10 songs from my iPhone, I remove the 10 songs from the iPhone playlist and then sync. The 10 songs removed from the iPhone playlist are the removed from my iPhone with no other changes - unless I add new songs to the playlist and remove others at the same time before syncing. The songs added to the playlist are transferred to my iPhone and the songs removed from the playlist are removed from my iPhone only when syncing. No other songs already on my iPhone are touched/removed with this process - unless I make a change to my iPhone playlist.
