Idea : iPhone on silent and lost, text a code to start an alarm ?

I've just had a fab idea after listening to the radio about a man who lost his iPhone at home due to being on silent. I'm wondering if it was at all possible for an application or something built into iOS to enable a secret code of your choosing to activate a find me alarm. Let's say via text message from your mates mobile with your secret 4 pin number or via your iPad with a find my iPhone app that's enabled on both devices. The code would over ride the mute button on your device and the handset can then be located.

If you have find my iPhone set up on it, you can force it to emit a sound, regardless of the mute switch or ringer volume settings.

Ah, okay. More info - knowing you have lost more than just the keyboard sounds is a big hint !
Get a strong light and a magnifying glass an have really good look inside the base connector and the headphone socket. You are looking for fluff.
These new symptoms have frequently been found to be caused by fluff in either socket and the phone thinking its on the headset.
Put the headset on and have someone ring you - if you hear the phone in the headset, its the socket faulty or clogged with fluff.

Thanks, but I checked iCloud and it has none of them.
If it backed up to my laptop, that died and I just got the new computer. The one that's crashed won't even boot, so there's no way to even tell if it was syncing the contacts along with all the phone photos. Literally happened at the same time - it was because I had the new computer that I was finally able to pull the photos off the phone and make room for the upgrade. It had refused to upgrade for lack of space for some time.
I had thought it was set to sync to iCloud but it vanished from BOTH my phone and the cloud. That's why I'm so angry about it.

HT4007 Migrated Aperture 3 from old Mac to new Mac - it will not Register correctly, and asks for product codes when started

I've migrated software from my old Macbook Pro to my New Macbook Pro Retina and the process went ok, except for Aperture 3, It asks for the product codes when started, after 5 starts it asks for Registration details, which I've completed, but on the next start it asks for the product codes again - it is still working correctly on the orginal machine, and shows it is Licensed to me etc - but on the new Mac there is no License information - I should be able to run the software on both machines - anyone any ideas - I've got the original Aperture 2/3 discs so I can install from scratch, but that seems to defeat the whole process of Migration Assitant -

Updated iPhone 4S yesterday and lost Contact Icon

Updated iPhone 4S yesterday re. automatic upgrade reminder. System must have crashed while upgrading and I was 'told' to connect with iTunes and restore. I did this. Lost the apps (no worries) and it seems to have kept my contacts (can text, email and phone) but have lost the CONTACT ICON. Any ideas how I find it and install?

When iPad is off and not connected to internet, you'll will not be able to track, lock or wipe the iPad.

I am sick to my stomach. I just wiped my wife's iphone...and lost everything.

My wife has an iPhone 4. I brought it to the Mac Store a few weeks back and they hooked it up to my computer and copied her files to my harddrive. They told me that it would be the same to plug it into HER Macbook and copy her files over.
Today, when I plugged it in, the options were as follows:
1) set up new iphone. (it's not a new iphone)
2) The other option said to copy her iphone.
I asked myself..."if I am wrong, they will give me some sort of warning, right?"
Nope, I clicked the button and now my wife's entire phone is WIPED!
We have a new baby. There were about 600 pictures. There were about 100 videos. They are gone.
I feel like I am dreaming here. This doesn't seem real. I've heard of stories like this, but I figured the people were idiots. Did I really just lose all of these memories without any way to retreive them???? There is really no "are you sure" option? There is no "cancel" button?
This is like that commerical about the lost iphone with all the memories....except there are no getting them back.
Does ANYBODY HAVE GOOD news to come out of this for me? I am shaking here. This is horrible.

If you open iTunes on her computer, go to Preferences>Devices, do you see a backup listed? Is it from before you did this "wipe"? If so, you may be able to restore from that backup. However, if her computer saw the iPhone as a new device and you set it up as such, then it would have wiped over everything. Sorry about that.
What files did Apple copy over to your computer? What is still there? If you open iTunes on your computer, is there a backup of the phone from that date? Were all of these pictures and videos done before or after you were at Apple? Did they try and import the photos/videos to your computer?

TS2755 Problem: Both iPhones share incoming and outgoing Text Messages. History: We used the same Apple ID for TWO iPhones. Later we changed the Apple ID on ONE iPhone.

Two iPhones were set up using the same Apple ID. iPhone#2 was updated 4 months ago with a new Apple ID. Both phones continue to recieve text messages for either user. Texts from user 1 or 2 to a 3rd party are signed as the same user. iPhone#1 is an Apple 5, iPhone#2 is a 4s. All phones on the same Verizon account. IOS have been updated regularly.

Go to your imessaging settings and check to see that the phone number for device #2 is changed good luck.

Updated iphone 3g software and LOST ALL CONTACTS!

PLEASE HELP! I updated my iphone 3g to the latest software the other day and in return got a clean iphone.... no contacts, no notes, no nothing!
I think I read everything posted here, and I already tried:
1. importing from sim - got nothing.
2. restoring iphone, then re-synching from backup - got nothing.
I don't even seem to have the location of the backup files on my desktop hp - is that even possible?
Please help - totally lost without my 300+ contacts.... Thank you!!

Yea I guess that now. It would be nice to have known this prior to doing an update. Apple's self help guides do quote that the contact information is contained within a backup:
Backed-up information includes purchased music, TV shows, apps, and books*; photos and video in the Camera Roll; device settings (for example, Phone Favorites, Wallpaper, and Mail, Contacts, Calendar accounts); app data; Home screen and app organization; Messages (iMessage, SMS, and MMS), ringtones, and more. Media files synced from your computer aren’t backed up, but can be restored by syncing with iTunes.""
It also seems crazy that the backup would store recent calls i.e. the numbers but not the names they are linked too. Oh well I hope Apple either edit the above clause or make an easier way of backing up contacts to itunes. I don't want the numbers on my phone to be merged on my email program!

My iPhone has been lost for ever two (2) weeks. I believe (99%) it is in my house, but I'm not sure.
My 'Find My iPhone' app says its "offline" because it is dead.
It is scyned with my Macbook Air. Is there anyway that I can power it up even when its dead? Or can Apple?
I really need it and I can't find it anywhere. Is the only way for me to physicly find it?

Poor service and lost text messages

Yes Ive been with Verizon for almost 4 years now and have never had problems like this before. my cell in my apt barely gets one bar in non 3g status. but however everyone else gets great service here. and for the last few months my phone has not been sending or receiving text messages from other verizon customers and att customers, it sucks because i use my phone for work and 90 percent of it is texting my co workers about the status of a job or the status of a part coming in! How can i get this fixed or do i just need to find a new cell phone carrier?

There are a couple reasons this could be happening to you.
1.) Verizon Wireless, and any other phone company, does not gaurantee phone service in your home because there are too many variables. Such as: what your house is made out of. For example, if your walls are made out of concrete that is a foot thick, that can definitely mess with the service.
2.) It could be an issue with your device. Quite possibly your phone may be on its last limb and is just having an issue. Perhaps you have an Iphone 4 without the special case ;p
3.) Do you live by mountains or any large buildings that could perhaps get in the way of the best service possible?
4.) When is the last time you did a PRL update? Dial *228 opt 2 so your phone can pull from the nearest cell phone towers.
Verizon Wireless offers the best coverage possible when it comes to cell phone companies.Changing companies is not going to help much. If that *228 opt 2 does not work, there are 2 things I would suggest.
Either go get a new phone or get a network extender.
Network extenders do exactly what they are called.

Synced iphone to PC and lost everything

My husband synced his iphone on his sister's PC not realizing that you cannot sync to another person's computer. He lost everything on his iphone, but says he clicked "backup" before syncing. All of his info should be on his sister's computer, right? Is there a way to get his info back from her computer to his phone (contacts, calendar, photos, apps, etc)? I am kind of afraid to plug his phone back into her computer now without some guidance. Any help?

This does not happen without ample warning. The first warning provided is the iPhone is associated with another iTunes library. This must be followed by manually selecting Sync Music under the Music tab or Sync Apps under the Apps tab for the iPhone sync preferences with iTunes on another computer and when doing so, a warning is provided indicating that doing so will erase all iTunes content on the iPhone first. This involves iTunes content on the iPhone only - everything on the iPhone is not erased with doing so.
Unless Sync Photos is selected under the Photos tab for the iPhone sync preferences with iTunes on another computer along with selecting photos on the computer's hard drive to be transferred to the iPhone followed by a sync, photos transferred from the computer the iPhone is normally synced with are not erased from the iPhone, nor are any photos/videos in the iPhone's Camera Roll, which are not included with the iTunes sync process.
Unless Sync Contacts is selected under the Info tab for the iPhone sync preferences with iTunes on another computer and a supported address book application on the computer is selected, contacts on the iPhone are not touched. The same for Safari bookmarks and calendar events.
The iPhone's backup does not include any iTunes content - no music, movies, tv shows, podcasts, or 3rd party apps, and the backup does not include any photos transferred from your computer. All iTunes content on the iPhone should be in your iTunes library on your computer - the computer the iPhone is normally synced with. All photos transferred from the computer the iPhone is normally synced with should remain on that computer as well.
Where is your husband's computer? Forget about his sister's computer. He needs his computer to restore all content on his iPhone as it was before.

Iphone 3g sync and lost address book, notes and all data

Have an iPhone 3G and synced with itunes yesterday and installed all updates. After the process wqas completed, my phone rebooted and I lost all my address book contents, all notes, and my calendar was wiped clean. Can I get some help in having these items restored?

This is the Mac OS X Technologies > iSync forum. You appear to be a Windows user - also, even on a Mac, iSync is not used for syncing the iPhone.

I connected two ipod touches to my iphone itunes account and now text messages appear on both touches

I recently purchased two touches for use by two children. I used my itunes account and named each device seperatly. I cannot figure out why when I text one device, the message appears on both. Also, the address book is also synching in the cloud and is the same on both devices. Do I need to use different itunes accounts or is there a setting I missed that makes them seperate, likea phone would be?

I was able to only put the applications from my account on each specific touch (I have a iphone 4g). So, if I want to text and facetime without it coming up on both touches at the same time, then I will need to synch with a unique Itunes acocunt then?
