Idea: podcasts update directly to phone

I don't know if there's been any discussion about this, but wouldn't it be cool if podcasts could update directly to the iphone... I mean apple has already integrated the iTunes store to the iphone, why not just add a little function to update podcasts you're subscribed to...
For me, I like to get the NPR hourly news update, and I would love it if I could just download it right to my phone and get a little news update between classes, instead of having to pull out my laptop, update my podcasts, and sync my iphone...
anyone though about this?

That sounds like "the way it should be" except that ATT is not going to allow iTunes to use that much bandwidth so you would have to be connected to WiFi networks all day.
But, I'm confused. Are you able to find and download any podcast using iTunes on the iPhone? I can't find any of the podcasts that I listen to. All I get is songs that you have to pay for. Shouldn't we be able to get podcasts? It's not like it would take up ATT bandwidth.
Are they in the process of converting the Music Store for iPhone?

  • Podcast updates direct to phone?

I dont think this is possible, but if it is can someone advise me how to do it.
With my subscribed podcasts can new ones automaticaly download through wifi or 3G to my iPhone 3GS rather than having to have my computer turned on and down load them through that iTunes and then having to sync my phone.
If this isnt available then if anyone from Apple is readin this maybe it can be suggested a s future improvement. Would be great when away from computer for days at a time to have this update automatically eg when away with work or on holiday

Kind of. At the bottom of your list of podcasts on the iPhone, you'll see an option to "Ger More Episodes . . ." Clicking that will take you to the iTunes Store, where you can manually download more podcasts. But I don't think the native iPod app on the iPhones will download new podcasts in the background, like iTunes on your computer does. There may be other apps in the App Store that offer this functionality.

    Hi there,
the new iOS software (infact any new software for iPhone 4) will download to my laptop but won't update on my phone. I get an error message about network settings and to check if they are correct. Does anyone have any ideas? This is beginning to break me :-(

    Hi Diesel vdub,
Did that and I tried again, download stops halfway through and comes up with same message I have already quoted. Wifi Signal is 5/5, network is working, just not letting me download via iTunes.

  • TS4108 I have recently done a software update on my phone, when complete I could not get the phone to work and the icon showed I had to connect to I-tunes. I then lost some recent data and photos. If they are backed up to the cloud how do I recover them?

When I completed my last software update directly on my phone I didn't realise I would then be prompted to do and I-tunes update that would wipe my phone. There seemed to be no turning back so I lost some data and photos.  I'm assuming these will be backed up to the cloud but have no idea how to retrieve them.
The explanation given on the support community is a bit complicated and beyond my capabilities!   Julie Malkin

If you have an iCloud backup, restore it to your phone as explained here: https://support.apple.com/kb/ph12521.  If you have a backup on your computer instead, restore it to your phone by connecting your phone to your computer, opening iTunes and going to File>Devices>Restore from Backup.

  • Hard Crash on Podcast update?

A week ago I subscribed to my first podcast (well, like 6 of them, really), and last night between 3am and 7 am my whole computer crashed. I leave it on all the time, so I'm not sure exactly when or why it crashed, I just know that I woke up and I could hear the fans in the computer going full blast.
This morning I started it up, and tried looking through various logs, but there was nothing. I started up Safari and iTunes, hit Play, and about 3 seconds later the whole computer crashed. No response from mouse/keyboard, and the song is playing like a broken record - a half second clip being repeated over and over.
Press and hold power button for 10-15 seconds, comp shuts down. Start it back up, open iTunes and Safari, but this time play a different song (I've had iTunes do this to me before with a specific song - I figured it was corrupted on disk). Same thing, about 3 seconds later the whole system is frozen. This time I notice in the status window that it's updating a podcast.
Hold power button, restart, just open Safari to do the web browsing I wanted, and deal with iTunes later. When I got around to iTunes, I pulled the network cable (not on the internet = no podcast update), was able to play both songs that it crashed on. But when I plugged the internet back in and checked out my current subscriptions, they were all current!
I've got a subscription to the MAKE magazine video podcast, and it was the only one to update today, with a PDF. Strangely though, I have the PDF, so it downloaded before(?) one of the crashes.
I have to believe my problem is directly related to the podcast, so I'm wondering if there's anyone else with the same problem, or an idea on how I can fix it? I've set my podcasts to manual update instead of daily, at least that way if this happens again it will be easier to correlate.

i'm using the same book you are, but i don't use Motion. i do however run FCP and AE at the same time and constently push the book - without crashing. my projects are intensive with cuts and filters/effects. i jump between the programs with Automatic duck constantly.
do you think it might be the graphics card?

  • Microsoft all ready has an update for Windows Phone 8.1 Verizon customers still don't have WP 8.1. UGH!

Microsoft has all ready released an update to Windows Phone 8.1. Us Verizon customers don't even have WP 8.1. *** Verizon?  My contract with Verizon is up in November this is the tipping point.  I am not going to renew my contract.  I will just buy the phone out right and sign up for Straight Talk.  Then I don't need to have the "Nanny service provider (Verizon)" telling me when I am able to obtain a device update.  Thanks for nothing Verizon.

On one side, I can understand that maybe (and that's a BIG maybe) Verizon wants to make sure they have enough data (pardon the pun) regarding the successful adaptation of the update for it's customers in order to make sure everything goes smoothly.  However, I find that Verizon likes to keep customers in the dark regarding time frames.  It's interesting to see on some of the similar titles message boards entries on this topic have Verizon monitors ready to wipe out entries if they violate terms of service on the forums.  But, when asked directly about time frames for Windows updates, you either get a link to some Verizon news page (which is of no help), or nothing at all.  A number of people called Verizon customer service and get varied answers like: "Sometime this summer", "Soon", or even an "I don't know, they don't even tell us either"...which is the answer I got one time.  Very discouraging.  I had a choice between the Windows Phone, or a Samsung Galaxy phone.  I chose Windows because of it's features.  Beginning to regret it now, since support for it on Verizon appears to be dismal at best.

  • On starting up my new iPhone 4s, it freezes on the apple logo. I have tried the reset buttons trick and have tried restoring again too but nothing works. Any other ideas? Or is the phone simply corrupt in some way?

Did you try to connect in recovery mode and restore without using the latest backup?

If setting up as new device does not work, you'll have to get it serviced or looked at by visiting an Apple Store.
Did you try to remove the ipsw firmware file and restore, to make iTunes download a new copy from Apple?
    Those files are located here:
Rename, move, or delete the iOS software file (.ipsw)
iTunes uses "ipsw" files to restore your iPod or iPhone. If those files are unusable, then try deleting them, renaming them, or moving the file to a different directory. This will cause iTunes to download a new copy of the IPSW. When a restore issue is specific to a user, it is likely due to an unusable .ipsw file. If removing the .ipsw file does not resolve a user-specific restore issue, then the issue is caused by other user-specific security software settings or iTunes preferences. Creating a new user will also cause new .ipsw restore files to be downloaded in the new user. You can find the ".ipsw" files in these locations:
    Mac OS X
    iPhone
    ~/Library/iTunes/iPhone Software Updates
    iPad
    ~/Library/iTunes/iPad Software Updates
    iPod touch
    ~/Library/iTunes/iPod Software Updates

This bit is interesting from the Windows Phone Blog in regards to this update.
Remember, while we are releasing Lumia Cyan for a large number of phones, there still may be some of you that are not offered the Cyan update, yet. However, as explained in the blog, we’ll continue to add more Lumia devices every couple of days over the coming weeks until we bring everyone up to the latest.

  • When trying to update the i phone " fault 1630" occurs - both when connected to WLAN or USB. What can I do?

When trying to update my i phone IOS 5.0 (connected by WLAN and USB to my computer) there is always "fault 1630" saying I`ve got no connection to the internet / network, which seems to be wrong to me (phone is online). What can I do?

Thanks.  I have followed all the instructions as recommended and nothing has worked so it looks like the restore/update may have been interrupted - would loss of internet connection do this?
Yes it would, possibly even brick it.
Have successfully connected my ipod nano with iTunes so looks like the device driver is working.
Can I use my ipod nano USB connector to check?
It is not much help to you, since the device that you need still not recognized.
Anyway looks like I may have to swallow the loss of data.  Have set-up a call for tomorrow with Apple support so will wait until after this before doing the factory restore!
Good luck, but if you expect miracle from that call good luck again.

Sounds like your phone was hacked to use with your carrier.  Updating it has relocked the phone to it's original carrier.  You will not get the phone working again without a SIM from the original carrier.
