Idea to improve service warranty - guarantee

Congratulations for the service of guarantee of Lenovo in Spain. Is efficiente and simply,though it depended of the mail
send/system.
I propose create an independent mail/send system of Lenovo and for Lenovo.

Ideas to improve your service warranty/guarantee service might be to join up the last-resort complaint-management team with the ordinary warranty department a little better. I'm currently stuck in the hell between the two with a less-than two month old T450 which has a dicky right hand USB port. I've paid extra for an on-site warranty but when the normal warranty department process stalled (I think because they don't have a replacement motherboard readily available) I was put into the hands of the Bratislava complaint management team and a man who's basic solution to the problem is to take the existing machine away and possibly get me a replacement within 145 days. He doesn't speak English too well and his e-mails are a masterpiece of indistinct meaning. The ordinary warranty department can't deal me now because my complaint has gone to this 'higher' level of resolution and I can't get a straight answer out of Bratislava.  This is my third ThinkPad, I still like them, just, but wow this is a super nadir of service for a machine which had a fault on picking it up. When did depriving an owner of his machine for getting on for six months without any kind of recompense ever, ever constitute customer service.  Andy English

I understand the charter on this is to "check-in" once every time the program is turned on, and then once every 6 hours after that, or, once every 24 hours presumably. But the phone-home-effect is over-stepping these basic parameters. If a user turns their browser off and then on, Firefox is still obligated to "check-in" even if it just checked in 3 minutes prior. If the coding is not pre-designed to overstep, or act excessively in a redundant focus, the instance of once every six hours or once every 24 hours, is still overmuch if a user has been doing this (non-voluntarily-participating) for 9 months or longer.
== This happened ==
Every time Firefox opened
== This started when Firefox took up the initiative of "improving service. to end users" or similar idea, making the web safer for novice users, etcetera.

Opening question was truncated. Should read: "Firefox users cannot presently exercise choice, to opt-in or out of "data collected for improving services." As a result, Firefox is constantly dialing home, sometimes four times a day or more up to 48 times a day. There is some over-stepping and redundancy here. It would seem the practice of "improving service" has been accomplished with as much information as Mozilla has gathered in the last 6-18 months about its users habits. '''Isnt it about time to give users the option to opt out of that now that most the heavy liftiing has been accomplished?'''"

• Workshop IDE for Oracle Service Bus

Hi,
I have installed Oracle WebLogic Server 11gR1 (10.3.3) + Coherence - Package Installer (downloaded from http://www.oracle.com/technology/software/products/ias/htdocs/wls_main.html). And I downloaded oepe from net for using it as IDE for Oracle service bus. But when i open the eclipse, i do not get any option for creating the oracle service project.
Is there any plugin i need to put in eclipse for this to show up ??
John

You need to download Oracle Service BUs from here : This installer contains only OSB components and is not bundled with WLS and I think includes the eclipse plugins for Service bus projects.
http://www.oracle.com/technology/software/products/osb/index.html
There is a pre-requisite to download and install weblogic 10.3.3 + coherence +OEPE separately.

• From where can I download IDES on SAP Service Marketplace?

Hello,
From where can I download IDES on SAP Service Marketplace? Can you any one help me. I have got access to SAP service market place. If its not avilable there then from where can I download the lates IDES for mySAP2005. Thanks in advance.
Regards,
Farooq Shaik.

Hi Raghav,
Believe it or not, it is easy to get the access to download but it might not be easy for your company due to legal reasons.
You can request authorization through your SAP account executive (your SAP sales person!). Download of software is part of the SAP license you have with SAP. You probably wil have to talk to your company's SAP contract contact before talking to SAP.
The reason for this is that there are some different legal issues about downloading software in different country (taxing and asset accounting can be different for physical and downloadable software).
Cheers,
Mike.

• Can I avail my service warranty in Seoul even if i buy my Macbook Air in Manila

Can I avail my service warranty in Seoul even if i buy my Macbook Air in Manila? Can you guys walk me through the process.

You will have to ask them if they will honor the warranty. Technically, the warranty is only good in the country of purchase. It's up to the country you are in whether they will or can honor an out-of-country warranty.

• Idea for improved guides

I think it would be a good idea to improve the guides in Illustrator by optionally create them over the whole workspace (as they work now) or only for the separate print areas.

Thank you, Doug (seems to be an acceptable compromise). But i have to change the tool and to breat my working process for that. What about a shortcut in combination with the rulers to switch between the two modes - or is there already one too?!

When did BT rebrand a 'faulty line' to Engineer Home Improvement Service? I know they have always tried to put a nicer sounding spin on negatives things like changing BT Faults Helpdesk to My Help and Support but calling an engineer visit that is just stupid.

...or charging £99 for replacing their own 'faultly' BT Hub...
DISGRACEFUL!

• Engineer Home Improvement Service charge - Broadba...

Hi
In September I had very slow broadband and eventiually an engineer was sent out.
After finding no problems with my cables in the house he looked at the box on the outside wall and found it had a problem. possibly caused by recent electrical storms in the area.
He also replaced the front plate on my master socket with one including a filter and updated my router to a homehub3.
He informed me there would be no charge for this but now I have been billed for £129.99 for this visit.
Is this correct to be charged for a fault in the box on the outside of my property?
Thanks.

Changing the front plate for one that would improve your broadband connection, and updating your home hub, would come under that charge. Normally if you wanted a hub upgrade, you would have neede to re-contract.

• Snow Leopard Chinese Input System Demo & Request for ideas to improve it

I had been looking for a detailed Snow Leopard Chinese Input System demo online for sometime and failed. What I found were just short video clips of people trying to use the system for a few words here and there, nothing detailed. So I've taken the initiative to create such a video and hope people interested learning more about the Chinese Input System may find it useful.
http://kempton.wordpress.com/2009/10/28/snow-leopard-chinese-input-system-demo/
I like the system and like to see users of the system sending in suggestions to Apple for them to improve it and make the system even better.
Here are some comment/ideas of mine,
1) I love the predictive word association, it has saved me time in entering many words.
2) Add an "undo" to the track pad input.
Sometimes I see the right word predicted but my hand was too fast and I added a dot or stroke that takes out the word I want.
3) My pen stroke order sometimes ***** and this mess up the recognition system badly.
I wonder will it be difficult to implement a display tool that
given a passage of "Chinese text" as input
have the system "display" the "correct" pen strokes order of how the words are expected in the system. The stupidly simple word “生” should not take 20-30 seconds for someone to fight with the system to get the correct recognition.
Here is how I captured some of my thoughts earlier this month in Chinese typing the article in Snow Leopard,

• Anybody have experience of service after guarantee/Apple care expired.

I am plaining to get a MacBook Pro, but what afraid me is that if the Apple care/guarantee has expired, as I have an experience with my iPhone of being refereed to a third party service center. That was not a good experience one, as they didn't do a proper job to my iPhone.

Yes! i have had my screen replaced 3 times,just before the warranty ran out,and i knew that it would happen again, (even has i am typing this out its happening again) I was given no choice but to buy this Apple Care Plan. My question is what happens after 3yrs. In my country England you just keep on paying the insurance every year. If you do not have any insurance, Say, on a washing machine you call the guys out to fix it, they tell you the price before they begin. You are better off buying a new washer, because of the price they charge. I know for definate after 3yrs thats it,and say if you had to get your screen replaced it would cost you £400 plus carriage,and that comes to about £500. You might as well buy a new computer. Unless anybody can come up with a better answer to this i would love to know.

• In-Service Warranty Repair Denied: Would Really Appreciate Tips on How Best to Handle This -- INTERIM PROGRESS REPORT, Bottom of Thread

Hi, everybody,
Four days ago  (4-21-08), I returned my IBM T60 for repair via the prepaid box.
While I was bummed that it stopped booting for no apparent reason and I'd have to do without it, I wasn't concerned, because as a newspaper and magazine reporter and editor, I've been using Thinkpads and IBM Service since the pre-Pentium days, without ever having a problem.
But today when I called to see if my unit was on its way back, I was informed it's on 'billable hold.' IBM claimed the damage was due to a spill and thus, not covered. I could get my laptop back right now, broken, pay $750 for them to repair it (I did not spill a drop of anything into or on it) or open a dispute.
And -- get this -- it would be four to five business days before I hear back from IBM regarding the dispute's disposition.
I was told the reason for this long wait was because 'we have a big backlog of dispute cases' and 'our technicians have to take pictures and make a report documenting the spill' -- which did not occur on my end.
So who documents my side? Nobody interviewed me. The prepaid box did not even contain the forms IBM service always used to send for me to fill out describing the problem.
I asked to speak to a supervisor -- nobody available. And the message I left on a supervisor's answering machine was not returned.
Needless to say, I am very upset. I absolutely positively did not spill anything into or onto my laptop. If they said dog hair or dander, okay, I've got two large mutts. But no spillage.
Plus, the T60 is among those thinkpad models promoted by Lenovo via videos on its own site & Youtube in which Thinkpads get smooshed by heavy equipment, run over by motorcycles, submerged in diving pools, etc.!
(I just downloaded the whole lot, in case I need them for Small Claims Court).
However, I hope it doesn't come to that, and would similarly prefer to avoid anti-Lenovo blog screeds and forum posts, if possible. After all, this is my first-ever negative experience with IBM products.
Has anybody gotten any satisfaction from Warranty Service using more congenial methods? And is there anything I can do right now, as I have publication deadlines to meet?
Apart from the boot failure, this laptop was in near-pristine condition when they received it and I need it back.
Four to five more business days, just to tell me whether or not they want to hear my side of the story, not even to do the repair? That's kind of insulting. Why did I pay for the Warranty?
This is definitely not the IBM experience I've known and loved for so many years, so if any of you have satisfactorily resolved your own in-warranty issues, please share your experiences.
Thank you in advance for insides you may have.
All best,
Amy

• Deserializing obj on network drive take a long time -- any ideas to improve

Good morning!
Deserializing objects from a network drive is taking way too long, much slower than deserializing the same object files stored on the local hard drive of the development PC. How I can reduce the time??
The size of the serialized objects is small (72K and 17K).
The PC access network drives quickly enough (word processing, text editing, etc). The PC JVM is 1.5.0_09 and the OS is Windows XP.
Here is the background.
I had the idea to create objects and serialized them on my server (an AS400) and let client applications deserialize them.
Now that I have it running I find that deserializing the objects off the server take way too long! Does anyone have any ideas how to improve this.
If I copy the serialized objects off the server onto the local hard drive of the development PC and access them from the local hard drive the speed is fine.
To my mind that eliminates the potential for incompatibility between the JVM which serialized the objects and the JVM which descerialized the object. That is, the deserialize fast on the local drive, slow over the network.
Used both UNC and mapped drive to access the server and I can't see any performance difference. That is
filename = "//server/java/ftpaudit/SerializedObject.ser"
and
filename = "J:/ftpaudit/SerializedObject.ser"
where J: is mapped to //server/java
This is the code which deserialize the objects.
try {
         File file = new File(filename);
         FileInputStream f = new FileInputStream(file);
         ObjectInputStream ois = new ObjectInputStream(f);
         Object returnObj = ois.readObject();
         ois.close();
         f.close();
         return returnObj;
} catch (InvalidClassException ice) {
         ....Thank you for your time and help.
BillB

Could the file be locked on the server?I don't believe it is. It eventually (minutes loads). The delay is consistent. I haven't put the logging to see what part of the deserialize method is chewing up the time yet.
Putting in code to copy the file from the server to the local hard drive then deserializing performs much, much faster (milliseconds, almost as fast as deserializing directly from the local drive).
I modified this from another post to this forum
try {
            FileChannel srcChannel = new FileInputStream(file).getChannel();
            FileChannel dstChannel = new FileOutputStream(dir+file).getChannel();
            dstChannel.transferFrom(srcChannel, 0, srcChannel.size());
            srcChannel.close();
            dstChannel.close();
        } catch (IOException e) {
            e.printStackTrace();
        }I was wondering if there was a more efficient way to deserialize an object than the one in my original post. Or if there were hidden aspects to consider such as buffer size.
Here's an alternative approach: since the server side
is written in Java (I'm assuming, since you say that
it writes a file containing serialized data), why not
create an RMI interface for retrieving the
information? The current approach, of opening a file
over the network, is very fragile -- what happens in
the network mount point or share name changes?Thank you. Good suggestion.
